About Crowdfunding and PayPal Blocking (Edited)

Not sure if you heard but the Indonesian government is blocking many digital services like Steam, Epic Games, Battle Net, and PayPal. However, after many protests from Indonesian digital creators, they've decided to unblock PayPal until Friday (midnight of August 5th on GMT+7) to give some time for the users to draw their money and migrate it somewhere else (?). Apparently, they think that there's a pot of gold somewhere else on the internet for digital content creators other than the ease of an established international platform like PayPal.

(There probably is but PayPal is the hub preferred by small-scale creators and artists to transfer the money to our local banks so yeah).

You might be confused but to answer your question, yes, Indonesian digital content creators are also confused by their lack of intelligence as well. If you’re curious enough to read about this epic stupidity, you can read it >>here<<.

Obviously, the protest is still ongoing and I’m not sure if the government will keep being stupid and block PayPal for Indo users but for now, I’ll monitor the situation and take the necessary action for my Crowdfunders should there be an update. The worst case for me is to suspend AFF Crowdfunding indefinitely and cut my income altogether since there are reports that if the government decided to resume this idiocy after Friday, then Indo creators who are using PayPal cannot receive, send, or withdraw their money as there might be bans from PayPal's security system for using DNS to access their service.

Still hoping for the best outcome from this frustrating circumstance.

I will update the situation by the end of this week but all in all, I will make sure Crowdfunders get access to the contents they've paid for.

Lastly, I apologize for this inconvenience on behalf of my brainless, dull-witted, empty-headed government officials. May they rot in hell.

Edit on Aug 2 14:51 GMT+7: the government has reopened access to PayPal, Steam, Valve, and Yahoo with no mention of a window, hence it's still unclear whether this is a temporary or a permanent reestablishment of said services. Therefore, my Crowdfunding will continue until further clownery from the govt.

I hope it gets resolved soon! I use crowdfund too, and I'm worried that I can't give my readers access to what they paid for -- or even give them refund if they don't have a PayPal account :-(

I contacted PayPal support because I couldn't find an official statement. They haven't replied to me yet, but I did find this tweet where someone contacted support and got an answer. https://twitter.com/powls_art/status/1553410824211156992
Apparently they're working on resolving the matter, so I hope we get good news later in the week.
