QIN 沁
NICKNAMES
qin prefers to be called her birth name rather than anything else, not seeing the need for nicknames when you already have a name that your parents gave, but sometimes, her mother would address her as qin-ah, which is nothing but a simple term of endearment that slips out very casually (and one of the few names she'll respond to). closer friends have tried calling her qin-qin, and though she sometimes get slightly bothered, she's grown fond to this due to the familiarity. at one point in her life, she was also called love as the chinese character for heart is in her name (though no one even knows about this now).
APPEARANCE
as much as qin tries to carry herself in a poised and reserved manner, people have never found her to be incredibly intimidating. especially when you compare her to others who she surrounds herself with, qin is rather pleasant to look at, with a pair of doe-like eyes that's wide and ingenuous, a button-like nose with a defined bridge that gives her a striking side profile, and small lips that her friends seem to make fun of more often than she likes, but she still has a sweet smile that's enough to brighten her entire face if you managed to catch her doing something or talking to someone she likes. a rather frail frame, qin is thin and at a moderate height with subtle curves, as she claims, if you squint hard enough. her hair is a dark brown color, falling down to her chest, and it plays a great contrast to her skin that's in a rather paler shade despite spending her entire life near fire.
STYLE
qin's daily wear is typically a kimono-like tunic that shifts between the different shades of red and black, with hints of other clothes like yellow and white, evidence of her fire nation residence. she doesn't prefer anything too elaborate unless if it's for a special event, opting for simplicity above all and not seeing the particular appeal in the intricate pattern her noble friends all wear. well, with that being said, qin does greatly care for her appearance, though she just doesn't wear anything that draws too much attention or she feels too self-conscious in. qin instead adorns herself with accessories such as necklaces and headpieces, and on occasions, a bit of makeup, lighting dabbing on some blush or lipstick that she steals from her mother to pass off as somewhat of a natural look. when going out, her hair is in a top-knot and let loose when she gets back home.
AS FAR IS QIN is concerned, all she ever needed to be in life was gracious and well-behaved to earn just about anything she ever wanted from her parents, and taking this and just about anything people tell her earnestly to her heart, all qin ever has done is to always be the best version of herself and not cause any trouble wherever she goes. she's a steady and constant figure, the perfect child to her parents and a dependable friend to the royal family. she's got a wide range of skills and knowledge up her sleeve and a loyalty and obedience that incomparable to anyone else, so when qin is requested to go on a journey, it's only in her nature to say yes. but after living all sixteen years of her life in nothing but peace and content, shielded away from the cruelities of the war, how can qin possibly defy everything she's been taught and to become an enemy to the people and nation she loves so dearly?

TRIVIA
LIKES
qin likes the season summer, fire lilies, the busy marketplace, xialongbao, elaborate accessories, tea, books, cats, pretty calligraphy, egg custard tarts, playing the pipa, sight-seeing (if she gets the chance to travel), her family and close friends, and the theater.
DISLIKES
qin dislikes insects, messy places (a neat freak), pretentious people, conflict, peppers and nuts, being forced out of her comfort zone, major changes, heights, people that pretend to be close to her, feeling lonely, being scolded by an authoritative figure
HABITS
qin is expressionless for most of the time you catch her by herself, but occasionally if she's thinking hard, she'll bit her bottom lip w/o even realizing. she's always fixing her posture, and she also enjoys playing with loose strands of her hair. she is both a heavy sleeper and early bird, as her body has gotten used to waking up at the same time every morning.
MEMORY
given her studious personality, she has an excellent memory, with an ability to recall what someone said from a trivial conversation days ago or little details of people that she's told, such as their birthdays, favorite foods, etc. which really helps to make them feel like they are special in qin's heart (though in actuality, she might not care that much). this is one of the reasons why she does well in subjects like history and science as compared to more applicable studies like math and language arts.
DRINK
her favorite beverage, besides a cup of room temperature water, would be jasmine tea. on a relevant note, she's also tried wine before under her parent's supervision, but she isn't the biggest fan of it.
AFFECTION
qin blames her parents for her inability to give a comforting hug or say words like i love you without internally dying a bit. while she may be good at listening to her friends when they're upset, she's clueless on how to show them that qin does greatly appreciate them. she's more sympathetic rather than empathetic, as she can offer all the words out of a dictionary but not truly understand how you feel.
FEAR
besides for the more surface level fears like insects and heights, some of qin's greatest fears are being forgotten and disappointing people that matter to her.
ACADEMICS
among one of the best students in her grade, qin has grown quite fond of school and learning in general. she never missed a day of class and finished all of her assignments on time, receiving good grades and praises as well. currently on her last year of education, qin is not sure of quite what to do after she finishes her primary education. her parents don't care for much of what she does if it's an honorable job. despite her firebending skills, she doesn't have interests in the military because she thinks that she isn't suitable for war.
NAME
the character of qin's name (沁) means to seep from the inside, as it is made of the heart character. the slant pronunciation of the word makes it become affection, and this is all related to how she shows her more tender side upon closer look and is a well-intentioned person, a sincerity that seeps from her heart.
THE ARTS
qin takes great pride in her ability to play the pipa, as it's something that she has been learning since she was young. she is very skilled in calligraphy, particularly classical chinese, and overall, she has a neat and pretty handwriting. on days where she has time, she also enjoys going to the theater and watching art instead of creating it.
FIRE NATION
if qin were to look at the war with a more objective view, she does think that war is bad and that innocent people should not have to be harmed. however, because she is born and raised in the fire nation, she loves her country and would feel slightly irritated if someone were to talk bad about it, from its government to people. qin thinks that those who believe every fire nation person is evil and aggressive is rather clueless and close-minded without realizing that she's doing the same. she does understand that the war is cruel, but she doesn't speak out or do anything against it.
BREAKING POINT
qin is not one to cry easily, even with mountains of responsibilities sitting on her shoulders, because frankly, she believes in herself a lot. only her parents and very few close friends have seen her cry, and in the case that she does reach a breaking point, qin happens to cry over very little things such as how one time she cried after she spilled rice she was supposed to be making, when she's had a long and tough week with various problems and mistakes that built up.
ROYAL FAMILY
as she's known them since young due to her father's relationships, qin is a frequent visitor of the royal palace and a good friend with the fire lord's kids. she thinks fondly of both azula and zuko after knowing the siblings for so long and almost growing up with them. when it comes to their father, qin was always incredibly polite to ozai, even before his status as the fire lord, though when compared to his brother, qin admits she likes iroh better, for his more easygoing personality and similar interests, while ozai never sounded like a good father from what qin hears from zuko.
in addition, she was never particularly close with lu ten, with their and all, but she does hear great things about him from others and thinks of him postively, being quite devastated for him and iroh upon the news of the ba sing se siege. and as a side note, because of qin's friendship with azula, she knows mai and ty lee, and qin also knows mai from her father, though they never became close because of both their reserved personalities. ty lee seems to be more of a character, but they're mostly acquaintances.
CATCHPHRASE
some of qin's most said phrases include what's this, it's fine, i got it, what do you think, everything's going to be okay, you got this, and anything along the lines.
LOVE
to most people's surprise, qin has dated someone before, when she was fifteen. a friend had asked her out, and she agreed. however, the relationship lasted for a mere two months before ending, and in all honesty, she does not consider this to be her first love. she's also learned, from this, that love will come when it wants to, not the type to actively pursue a crush if she does have one. when asked, qin says that her ideal type is someone who has her best interests in mind and loves her for the reason that she is herself. this would mean that they have to be a friend first before anything else, and qin is naturally more drawn to someone who has a personality of a leader but also somewhat similar to hers.

as constant as the stars above, qin is a figure that shines brightly upon others and is always there for you whenever you need her to be. from first impressions, you find how amazing she is, with an elegance seeming to radiate around her and how she flaunts off values of filial piety she was raised with. from her mannerisms to speech, you can tell just how well-mannered she is and how much self-control and discipline she has collected over the years of growing up and maturing. it's almost charismatic, in a way, that she is able to exchange her emotions with an air of tenderness and composure seamlessly, that it makes everyone around her wonder what is running through her mind all day. she lives on a rather fixed schedule, but despite that, in between all her after school lessons and formal dinner parties that her parents take her to, she still manages to find the time and energy for her friends if you approach her for help, lending you an ear or shoulder or tissue. and qin just so happens to be the first person to come into mind almost every time because you know that she will be supportive and trustworthy and flatter you with all the sweet words that you want to hear, even if it might not be for the best. she realizes that, but she learned through experience that people only hear what they want to hear. it's almost like she doesn't have an opinion, the type when asked a question to ask back what do you think, and she just doesn't think her opinion is relevant because she's not in a place to tell you no. it's never her intention to harm you, but she just thinks that if you truly are determined, it'll only bring unnecessary conflict when you tries to convince you otherwise. she tells a little white lie here and there, like a tiny devil in disguise of an angel resting on your shoulder, and it's only in human nature to want to listen to her. the same applies to her actions, as it never does take much to ask her for a favor and her responding in agreeance. she was raised to be an obedient person, and while others might think she can be a bit of a pushover (or in uglier words, a lap dog) qin really does not mind. one being that she knows her own capabilities and thinks of herself as competent. besides, she doesn't like the feeling of letting someone down, especially since they're so used to qin always saying yes, and she is not the type to easily be overwhelmed with work. so people approach her to be friends because they know she is steadfast and faithful, with the tricky thing being to gain her trust fully because of how she keeps herself at a distance from others. however, if you do manage to win her over, qin will follow you through the ends of the world, and that's when you see, she is more constant than anything else.

though of course, some of the people closer to her might argue that qin is quite an unpredictable case if you get to know her enough. perhaps you once thought she was the most practical and responsible person around, but you start to see how she brings out a naive and ingenuous side to her, like when the tiniest of things can bring a smile to her face. she's honestly a simple person who doesn't need extravagant gifts or words to be pleased thoroughly, and as long as you show her your truest sincerity, she will return you the same. qin rarely does make mistakes in her judgment of friends, which is why those who she does become friends with treasure her dearly. on the other side, people that don't know her well might think that she is an airhead, not necessarily in terms of academics but rather soft skills, such as seeing the bigger picture when it comes to situations or people. they often judge her for appearing like a well-mannered lady while still being friends with someone who behaves quite the opposite of her. it's true that qin does tend to look past the red flags in someone, but she accepts people for who they are, though things do fly over her head at times. this has never stopped her from asking questions that comes from her curiosity. once she is comfortable enough around you, she starts to question things as they pop into her mind, and you realize that when she's confused or thinking, she'll show it on her face and forget momentarily of actions outside her brain. the same applies to when she's happy or sad or embarrassed, and it plays quite the contrast to the self-composed girl you thought you once knew as she lowers her guard around you. it makes you want to either pat her on the head and tuck her into your pockets or roll your eyes at some of the dumbest things she can think of. still, she is as dedicated as ever. if you tell her to wait for you after class, she will be there even if you don't show up for a good half hour. she has an incredible amount of patience and is even more willing to spend it on those who she values, but it sometimes does create a problem if she misses one time for another. qin takes a very steady approach to life, and when out of reach of everyone's expectations, she doesn't care if she uses the world's time on one assignment while everyone else is rushing to finish theirs. she is not the biggest fan of sudden changes and likes going at her own pace. sadly, she rarely does get the chance to, and she can't remember the last time she's lived her age. at qin's worst moments, her fight or flight system kicks in and tells her to make the latter choice. she will drop all of her responsibilities at once and feel like hopping on a boat to a place where no one knows her. this rarely does happen, however, as she's a non-confrontational person and does not like mentioning a problem to someone especially if they are a close friend even if it does bother her, and the same applies the other way around, with her unable to settle down if someone asks her to talk. smaller inconveniences can be overlooked, but in qin's dictionary, bigger conflicts should be avoided because she was taught to never make a scene, which is why she will try hard even if it does bother her.
BACKGROUND
the story began with a man named sokun, a well-known fire nation governmental official who comes from a family with close ties to the royal family. he met mira, a performer at the local theater, and as if love at first sight exists and he's been shot by cupid's bow, he knew just from watching her on the stage that he wanted pursue her, captivated by her appearance and elegance that's incomparable to those around him. it did not take much for mira to reciprocate the feelings either, seeing how sokun was a responsible man and how this was a chance for her to escape her average middle class background and into the marvelous world of the nobles. when he proposed to her after almost two years of dating, she accepted whole-heartedly, and the married couple walked into the next chapter of their lives by welcoming a new addition to the family. at the turn of spring, in 83ag, a baby girl was born to this small but well-off family. they named her qin because it's a pretty name and that they wish for her to be sincere.

ever since young, qin had been fawned over by adults for her beauty and manners. she looks just like her mother, as some complimented, while others would say how her parents must have taught her well after seeing how she knew how to greet an elderly properly at the age of three. either way, qin quickly became a child that her parents can show off and somewhat famous amongst the upperclass circle, as they referred to her as sokun's daughter and commented that she's a prim and proper child who's destined for greatness just like her parents.

and it's true, how qin managed to always surprise her parents. right when she turned five, she discovered her ability to firebend when the candles on her birthday cake needed to be lit. the couple is well pleased, seeing how their daughter must have inherited the skill from her father, who's quite a decent firebender as it's necessary for proving himself worthy of such a position near the fire lord. qin didn't exactly understand what's going on, but she's happy that her parents are happy because in this world, there's no one she loved more than her parents. though she won't admit this, telling adults that she loves her parents equally, she did have a slight bias towards her mother because of how much time they spend together, as she quit her job to take care of qin when she's just a little kid. her father was home occasionally, and whenever he was, he would tell qin that as long as she listens and is well-behaved, she'd be showered with all the love and compliments and that dad would give her anything he wants to make up for the time that they're not together, from pretty accessories to yummy good. so qin, from young, had the strong values of obedience and resilience engraved in her mind.

besides her parents and other relatives who she occasionally visits, qin also spent a great majority of her childhood with prince ozai's kids, with the eldest zuko being just born some time before qin and the young azula two years younger. qin always had the impression that zuko was just a bit too intimidating, but being a kid, she attempted to make friends with him anyways. her father instructed her that zuko and azula comes from a very important family to her father, and anyone important to her father was important to qin. with the princess, becoming friends came more naturally as azula is just easier to talk to.

growing up, qin realized that all she needed to be is the best version of herself in order to earn the favor of her parents and all the adults that surrounds her, and the best version means that she's perfectly behaved and performed well in everything that she does, from her academics to pipa lessons to physical capabilities, even if it was something that she didn't find much practical use for. her firebending skills were considered average when you compare her to another child her age, but that didn't matter for her parents when they always compared qin to the second prince's children, and seeing how gifted azula was, it's only natural for qin to feel a bit envious of her friend's talents, and she became worried that if she were to fall behind even for a day, she'd no longer be able to catch up with her steps and her parent's expectations.

though they never were particularly super close in their childhood, both qin and azula were students at the royal fire academy for girls. at the academy, qin was well-known for her mellow personality and the fact that she's sokun's daughter, and while most of her classmates had favorable opinions of qin as she's someone they can depend on, there was one incident where a group of girls had been rather subtlety ostracizing qin and spread rumors of her mom, claiming how she's a lowly performer who seduced qin's dad (when in reality, it was quite the opposite), and though qin was aware, she didn't want to do anything about it, fearing she was overthinking and that she could just focus her energy on more relevant matters. however, it was actually azula who had witnessed what they were doing to qin and caused quite a scene, which made qin worried, but also since then, azula has gained qin's full trust and sincerity. azula, too, thought that qin had some virtues she could learn from, such as her studious nature and flexibility, so they began seeing each other more as time went out.

so qin spent the teen years of her life rather uneventful, even pleasant, if you will. she was mostly a combination of her own expectations and outside pressures, but throughout the years in her life, she's learned how to become strong and steady, and she knew that as she didn't go around causing a scene, she could get anything and everything she wanted, just like what he father used to tell her. qin didn't have much to ask though, being a simple person who was content easily. after spending more time with azula, she naturally grew closer to her as well as some other members of the royal family. mom didn't have nearly as much time to spend with qin now that she's back working as an actress. seeing how her daughter was grown up and could take care of herself, she decided to go back to the theaters instead of being a stay-at-home wife since it got a bit boring sometimes, while dad was still busy as ever, which was why qin found herself preoccupied with schoolwork and other people. she had a particular liking towards general iroh, who was also the crown prince at the time, who she had met through zuko one day when iroh was home from war. though she was a bit frightened (after all, he was the crown prince, and the title itself came with a tremendous amount of weight and influence), iroh had made the two of them a cup of warm jasmine tea, to which a delighted smile appeared on qin's face immediately, and seeing how qin was typically more robotic in her expressions, both iroh and zuko were fairly surprised and also brought a smile to iroh's face, seeing what his tea could do for other people. because qin also knew how to play the pipa, she would play it whenever at iroh's request while he would accompany her with his singing.

however, the peacefulness could only last so long in this age of the raging war. in 95ag, prince lu ten was announced dead due to the war, and this left iroh in great grief. though qin's family was quick to send in their condolences, nothing could make up for his loss, and qin was forbidden by her parents to go to the palace for some time, seeing a spiral of events go out of hand. as much as she wanted to see the people there, she understood it wasn't in her place and could only catch azula in school and let her fill qin in on some details. sooner or later, ozai was announced as the new fire lord, to qin's and almost everyone's surprise. during this time, she started to focus on her school work more, seeing how it was only a couple more years until she finished her primary education, though frankly, she has no idea what she wants to do after she finishes. of course, there's always joining the military, but qin couldn't see herself joining in the war except for maybe as someone who handles more of the behind-the-scenes.

two years later, what had surprised qin even more than ozai becoming the fire lord was hearing news of the banishment of her dear friend and that iroh decided to accompany him. she felt pity for him and couldn't understand why, and she was upset that she had to hear the news from azula and not the prince himself. by the time the news had reached qin, zuko was already well on his way to the docks with a small group of soldiers and guards who decided to accompany him, and since then, she has never seen them again and will probably never do. however, qin does always keep an ear out whenever she hears the news of where they are, and perhaps one day, when the war is over, they will be welcomed back to the fire nation once again. but who knows? qin might even take matters into her own hands and learn what the world is like beyond the sheltered walls of her hometown for the people she offered her sincere heart to.
qin does love her father greatly even if they don't spend a lot of time with each other. after all, he is the one to have brought her such a lavish and peaceful life during this time of war and be able to get her anything she wanted material wise. all he asked of her was to be on her best behavior and to not do anything that would harm her family's name, to which she willingly obeyed. the two are not the best at small talk (or talk at all much individually; sometimes he can't even seem to remember his daughter's birthday), so instead, sokun shows his affection for qin with material gifts. he has her best intentions in mind, though his version of what's best for her might not be what qin exactly wants, such as how he pushes her with academics and other skills in order to become an accomplished lady who will have a safe and stable life when she grows old. on the other hand, qin thinks of her father as strict and believes that he has very high expectations for her, seeing how he is always pushing her to always be on her best for her father. though qin can't completely understand why her father could offer her anything in the world but not his time or affection, with age and maturity, she realizes that sokun is a responsible father to qin and a dutiful husband to mira. she hopes that if and when the war ends, her father could be able to take a well-deserved break from work.

as mira was there for majority of her childhood, qin absolutely adores her mother and thinks of her as the most beautiful woman in the world. her mother has, inarguably, shaped qin's personality greatly, in addition to sokun's teachings. because mira comes from an average background, she tells qin to always be humble and never let anything get into her head no matter how wonderful she may seem, because all the praises qin may receive is not permanent and she must constantly improve herself to earn the favor of others. though mira was mostly referring to herself and her own career as an actress and trophy wife, qin took this to heart and would constantly remind herself of her mother's words. for qin and mira, conversing came easier than it did with sokun, as the mother and daughter pair would often talk about a variety of things, from updates on qin's school life (mira knows about almost all of qin's friends) to gossip that her mother hears from her own friend circle. people would often mistaken the two as a pair of sisters, to which qin does not see the resemblance but mira smiles brighter than a flower and clarifies things up. qin feels like she can be more of a child around her mother, given that she is her mother, who knows how to make qin feel better and all of her preferences and tidbits, who can cook a warm meal whenever she needs it, which is why qin loves her mother and would never disobey her.
the princess and qin have known each other since they were young, as introduced by their families, and though qin is two years older, she has always admired azula for many reasons. azula seemed to be naturally gifted at quite everything she does, from firebending to people skills, with a confident and self-assured personality. she's also very quick to catch onto things, such as by taking one look at qin's agility skills and her being able to mimic it during a fight. initially, though they were friends, qin couldn't help but feel slightly envious, as her parents would always be comparing her to azula since they were both girls and about the same age, so she strived to be better than her, or at least, on par. it wasn't until the princess stood up for qin during the royal academy when qin grew an admiration for azula, and though it wasn't azula's intentions to defend qin (the other girls were just getting in her way), she saw that there was great potential in keeping someone as loyal and dependable as qin around, so their new supposed friendship started with qin always yielding to azula's words. the princess would sometimes make fun of her, and it amused her to see how qin would react, as she just sort of took everything without expressing much of an opinion. qin also feels like that she needs to be on her constant best behavior to keep up with the princess' steps. there's definitely a feeling of azula often taking qin for granted, but qin doesn't particularly mind because one) she's slow-witted and two) she believes that azula is still good-intentioned. sometimes, qin also thinks that the princess is pitiful, growing up without anyone's guidance and following her father's footsteps as expected, unlike even zuko who had iroh and ursa, though she would never dare to call the princess pitiful.

ZUKO
empathetic,

qin considers zuko to be her very first friend, even if their first couple meetings were rather awkward, as qin was told by her father that there was a boy of qin's age who was the son of a dear family friend, so she tried to make conversation whenever they met. to her dismay, he didn't seem very eager to talk to her and was a child of very few words. it didn't help that qin was quite intimidated by him, a boy with a quite vicious glare for someone who's just a little kid, and it wasn't until one day, qin was observing a little bird in the royal palace gardens aand she wasn't watching her steps, before tripping and falling flat on her face. after having a rather rough week at school, being scolded by her teacher for something qin didn't do but had to take the blame for and receiving not the most ideals, all qin wanted to do was stay at home, but instead, she was forced to come to the palace with her father on a supposed playdate with a boy who doesn't even want to hang with her. she couldn't really hold her tears in anymore, as zuko appeared and was surprised and confused to see the stoic and emotionless qin on the floor and crying. the guards went to help her up, but her tears were still flowing and she was feeling miserable and tired. as much as he didn't know what to do, zuko asked her what's wrong, and he didn't expect for qin to go off about her week and telling him how she doesn't want to be letting down her parents, and it became qin's turn to be surprised when zuko started talking about his own father and reassuring her that her parents won't be disappointed for this little thing.

since then, qin has becmae quite fond of the prince and supported him whenever he needed it. he was one of the few people that qin could be genuine to, as there was no need to prove herself or her worth to him, unlike with his sister, azula, who was only friends with qin because the princess deemed her as useful. qin thinks that they're both quite alike in many ways, except zuko is just a bit more forthright with his negative emotions than she is. qin would be almost a bit more playful around the prince, such as how she asked him once to show her sword fighting and him making fun of her because she absolutely . they shared sentiments with each other about their feelings towards their parents, as qin was there for him when his mother left the nation, to the point of where qin would bother her own mother to come to the royal palace and hang out with the two. however, one thing that qin didn't understand was why zuko resented his own father sometimes, seeing how his mother left and he was only left with his father and sister, and even as strict as qin's father is, she would never resent him for anything. this was not until she heard news of his banishment and was left devasted, even more upset when she hadn't heard of this news from himself but from azula. when the princess spoke negatively of her brother, it was the first time qin dared to snap at her, though she quickly realized and apologized. since then, qin has not seen either zuko or iroh, and though she wants to tell herself that she never will again, there's always a part of her that wishes to see her childhood friend again.
SKILLSET
FIREBENDING
having the ability inherited from her dad's side of the family, qin was blessed with this skill at the age of five. however, qin's firebending is quite weak due to her lack of drive besides for the fact of wanting to get better and not disappointing her parents, especially when compared to more talented people around her like azula. her basics are fine, as she can create a fire stream or fire-ball on command with no problem, but she is still far from reaching a master level of firebending. like most firebenders, she bends with a closed fist or open palm, and besides low intensity, qin also suffers from a low stamina, unable to keep sustained fires for long durations of time. she used to think that she has no use of becoming super skilled at firebending besides for making her parents proud, but perhaps after seeing yyn and her motivation, qin might learn a thing or two and try to find her very own inner fire.
LOYALTY AND INTELLIGENCE
as mentioned in her personality, qin is an incredibly devoted person, and if you manage to win her over, she has never betrayed anyone's trust. what's great about qin is that she rarely gives her opinions when deciding a problem but agrees and goes with the flow, being born as a follower, not a leader. she's a suitable right-hand man for just about anyone, with an excellent memory to recall little details. while she's not the best at coming up with very elaborate plans for strategy and tactics, she can help the person that is with covering up details that they might have missed or remind them of anything. in a way, she's like a walking database.

while qin might not be the most blessed in terms of her physical strength, making her a vulnerable target for hand-to-hand combat without the aid of anything else, she does make up for it somewhat with her agility and flexibility, a result from years of lessons. in addition, she is light on her toes (to the point of where she can sneak past someone without them realizing) and has a great sense of balance, a skill from her well-managed composure and how she seemed to have inherited this from her mother. if qin does come across a fight, however, she much rather prefers to talk it out or even choosing to give up before she even engages as there's no point in fighting if she's going to end up hurt and lost. in the case where she is left with no option, she seeks help from her bending or even weapons of any kind to support herself rather than having nothing but her bare fists.
WEAPON PROFICENCY
or in better words, a lack of weapon proficiency, qin has never had any formal training when it comes to weapons of any kind since her parents thought that there wasn't a need to. she's never even held a sword until she got curious and pestered zuko about it to let her try his out. knowing that she was lacking on the physical side, it was no surprise to anyone when she couldn't even swing the sword as her arms have never carried anything heavier than groceries or textbooks. since then, she's never touched a sword because she doesn't feel like embarrassing herself again, but given the chance, she does want to learn how to shoot an arrow from a bow, even if she does have a gut feeling it won't be any better. despite all this, she plans on carrying a small knife for the journey.
ARE YOU READY?
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE WAR?
the war is something inevitable, and because it's already going on, i am indifferent of the war. and it's true. qin knows that war is bad, speaking just from an average person's standpoint, but she also feels that in history, war is always bound to happen and that the fire nation is doing something that'll be beneficial for the world. because she is only one tiny person in the midst of the nation that she loves, it's not her place to tell her lord what to do. her family has always taught her to stay quiet and not express any controversial opinions in public, and besides, fire nation winning the war does mean more glory to her home country. in this dog-eat-dog world, what is wrong about supporting her own nation?
DO YOU THINK IT WILL END SOON? DO YOU WANT IT TO?
i'm not sure if it will end soon. everyone wants it to, but with the recent stagnation, the war is getting dragged on, and it's hard to see who will win. i do believe that the new incarnation of the avatar is something that'll help us though, so perhaps it'll be sooner than we expect. ever since the death of avatar misho, all the talk around her has been the anticipation of the arrival of the new avatar belonging rightfully to the fire nation. i do want it to end soon, though. mainly for someone else's sake. it'll be hard imagining a life of normacy once the war does end, qin thinks. it's a little ridiculous to think that all the nations will be at peace with one another again after decades of fighting, though it doesn't particularly concern her.
IF THERE IS A NEW AVATAR, IT WOULD BE SOMEONE FROM THE FIRE NATION. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THAT?
the new avatar is definitely someone who will be of great help to our troops, seeing how the past ones have posed formidable threats. qin assumes that the new avatar would be joining in the fire nation military, seeing how it's only natural. however, she does have some slight doubts, as the avatar is supposed to maintain harmony and be good, while not everyone has such positive views of people from the fire nation, but that is all later thoughts for when the new avatar does appear. hopefully the government and military knows what to do, and that this avatar is competent. if i get the chance, i hope to maybe meet them. she ends on a light note.

LAST COMMENT omg i haven't finished an app in centuries i am just a lil nervous... i also do have some notes :'>

— i hope qin's personality isn't too confusing ghfjsdf she's honestly a child still who's well-intentioned but she was always expected to be prim n proper so she kinda made herself a persona where she's a charming and courteous lady who does everything she's expected but if you get to know her enough, she lowers her guards n starts acting more like her age where she still very obedient and patient but also curious and easily fooled (buttttt it does take a lot for her to want to open up). she also rly doesn't care ab doing the right or wrong thing but more of what she is told to do
— also!! i left the ending of her background a bit ambiguous but i can imagine that qin going on a journey with perhaps not yyn at first but with someone else on the search for iroh + zuko (kinda similar to how azula requested for mai + ty lee to join her on finding her brother) n then qin coming across yyn's group and shenanigans ensue... or qin meeting yyn on purpose n trying to get to know her after azula telling qin to do so cus azula is interested in the avatar... or mayb like qin meets or has relations to someone else in yyn's group idk sdfhsjkdfhjkf my brain kinda do be ded

i think das it... i also wanna apologize if theres spelling mistakes or inconsistensies sdhfsjf if anything else is confusing i will def clarify as needed !! i rly hope u like this mess known as qin ;__; i haven't written an app in a hot sec but i was fueled by my passion for atla n a reason to use song zuer as my fc LOL n i am aware that in my app i used more "modern" pics of her so some of her pics in historical dramas r below for ref~
i might also make another character based off of my orig idea~ n there is some more rambling in the password section but that is all for now!! i am v excited for this story n what yyn will show us all ;3
SCENE SUGGESTION
— someone teaching archery or some other weapon to qin n her realizing that she's absolute shiet
— qin being more like a child or her disobeying her parents / azula
— side story dedicated to yuru like how appa had his own lil story :D
— yyn teaching qin how to be more expressive
PASSWORD so qin was supposed to be like dis super animated n quick-witted gal who is the daughter of jeong jeong but then i realized my background was very inconsistent so i turned my directions... so here we have qin 2.0 which is a much more stoic and well-behaved qin LOLOL

tho i had no clear inspo for her and didnt expect her to turn out like mai... but she just kinda did sfjksdhfjksj except qin is a lot less gloomy n has a caring/childish side to her that wasn't shown in mai? idk its been a while since ive watch atla omg >_____>

i tried looking for songs that could represent qin or just the vibe of the story/app and i think zhou shen's break through the heaven or genesis are both v fitting (honestly just any song by zhou shen *chefs kiss*)
