dustin yang is loud, rowdy, and outgoing. he appears to most as a typical asian frat boy to start: present at every campus party, a notorious reputation for going to raves during his freshman and sophomore years, and a head that sometimes seems a bit too empty.
still, while dustin's all too eager to let loose at parties (what else is college for, after all?), he's fairly dependable all other times.

BACKGROUND
dustin grew up in an average second-generation korean household, his mother managing a local pharmacy and his father a bus driver—as the eldest son of two immigrants, his parents had always hoped for excellence. dustin walks into his first kumon centre at the tender age of eight, times tables long memorised and a tentative mastery of elementary-school long division up his sleeve. life follows like this from the end of elementary school all the way into high school, where he truly becomes his parents’ source for bragging at family dinners, juggling extracurriculars and studying for gold medals at math competitions, all for flashy college application points.
it pays off when he receives his first early acceptance decision from uscf. perhaps its not the most prestigious of his options, but dustin has always liked the sun, and cali is far enough as it is; it gives him room to go back and see his family during breaks without too much fuss. besides, west coast best coast. his parents are proud to see him go to college anyways, a fulfilment of all that they had worked towards.

dustin meets leo twice, sort of. first, when he comes home drunk and stumbles into leo's room instead of his own, and passes out on his bed. second, the next morning, when dustin wakes up in leo's bed to see the latter sleeping in a corner, apologises profusely, and offers to shout lunch later that day once his hangover subsides. they're fast friends after that, personalities bouncing well off each other, loud and affectionate.
dustin sees leo in the common lounge fairly often. dustin will run and flop obnoxiously onto him on ocassion. though he claims it's to keep leo on his toes, but it's really because dustin's love languages are physical touch and words of affirmation; leo's open friendliness is one of dustin's favourite things about him.
dustin's incredibly excited about leo's video project- with the two running in a lot of the same circles, he thinks it'd be a nice way to look back on his time in college too.

dustin meets juno at a house party leo drags him to. he hits on her immediately, voice low and flirty, a shameless attempt at suaveness in his beer-stained t-shirt. she laughs at him. he tries again a few hours later at the same party before leo spots him across the room and drags him away, laughing. juno rolls her eyes as she watches them leave.
unfortunate encounter aside, the two get along quite well. dustin has the good sense to apologise the next time he meets when sober, and there's the end of that. it becomes a bit of a routine after that- dustin always greets her jokingly with bad pick-up lines, and she responds in turn with a biting quip.
still, they're not all that close. though dustin will stick to her sometimes, having known her the longest out of leo's other friends, neither of them will initiate hang-outs, meeting only when leo drags them both out.

hilary is dustin's current situationship, a back-and-forth that's been going on for a little over five months now. dustin meets hilary in a finance tutorial, slotting into the seat by the door opposite hers, breath winded and ten minutes late in week one. she takes one look at him, eyebrow arched, and turns back to face their ta. he passes her his phone to add herself on facebook before they leave, and doesn't expect anything beyond small talk and exchanged quiz answers.
still, hilary surprises him; she turns out to be a fantastic study buddy, and an even greater friend. between balancing maintaining her scholarship, finance society executive position, and sorority commitments, hilary's a lot brighter than she lets on, and every inch as terrifying as she looks. dustin grows to like her a lot over the semester. there's a moment where it could go to , just a bit, when they drunkenly make out at some frat party after finals. they don't talk about it after though- dustin isn't even completely sure it happened.
they keep in contact over the break, texting updates on family shenanigans, facetiming to watch a new tv show together. they're back to study-buddy patterns when school starts up again, except now dustin swings by her classroom after tutorials sometimes, boba order in hand, and makes excuses productivity increasing if they study while eating lunch together.
he's currently gathering up the courage to ask her out, unsure if this what they have now is all that she's looking for, the failure of his past relationships plaguing him. unbeknowst to him, hilary's growing impatience means that at this rate, she might bite the bullet and just ask him out herself.

he’s happy with the freedom that san francisco brings, but there are still occasional pangs of guilt for leaving his siblings behind. he knows the twins are doing fine on their own, but he still tries his best to text them daily, even if sometimes they only respond with screenshots of a shared amazon wishlist.
INTERVIEW this interview's gonna be slightly different. there's no set of questions or anything to go off of, but just imagine that your character is in one of leo's video. what are they doing? how do they interact? how do they act in front of the camera? just things like that. this is mainly just to get a feel of how i'm going to incorporate your characters in the youtube aspect of the story! again, feel free to format this however you'd like. you can even do it like the way i did in the first chapter.
