PERSONALITY : Ever since Katsumi could remember she has always been very childish towards everyone. And no matter how many years passed she would not mature to her age and still stay her childish self. Also adding to her childishness she is also a slob that does not like to clean or organize her room. If you go to her room at her house it is very messy, and the one that would clean it would be her mom her older brother (when he would visit the house). She is also very gullible and will believe most lies that people will tell her. Since young, she has always been very optimistic that at times her brother would have to talk to her saying that there are times that it could never get any better.
Ever since she saw a baseball anime that girls were the main characters she fell in love with the sport and has been playing baseball/softball. And thanks to that she has been very active with the sport, with working out and practicing to improve her skill. Whenever her teammates would get mad about something during practice or during a game, she was the peacemaker to keep the peace between players, and teammates. Even if she is the peacemaker she is very forgetful when it comes to homework, buying food/supplies, and important dates for projects. But her friends would say that is one of the many things that make her very lovable, and well-liked but almost everyone around her.
BACKGROUND : On a warm sunny day in March, a beautiful baby girl was born to rock singer Okamoto Kenichi, and model Nishi Katsue. Her parents were overjoyed to have a little girl named her Katsumi as she has an older brother by 3 years named Keito. Katsumi grew up with music around the house. Her dad was part of the rock band Otokogumi, he played the rhythm guitar and was in charge of vocals. So she grew up hearing her dad's old songs. Because of this, she was really interested in learning to play the guitar like her dad and brother. When she was 5 years old and practicing the guitar she saw the rerun of the anime of "Princess Nine", an anime of an all-girls baseball team, aiming to go to Koshien (nationals) and win. She was really moved by the main girl that she wanted to play baseball as well. So while she was practicing her guitar she was also practicing baseball with her brother (well in better words she forced her brother to practice with her since he was more into soccer). When she was 6 she met a little boy named Hiroshi that was around the age that would practice at the local park. They both became good friends that he would come over for lunch on the weekends after they would practice at the park. But after her 7th birthday, she was told that the family would be moving to England due to her mom's work, she didn't want to move away from Hiro but she didn't have a choice so she told Hiro the last weekend that they spent together practicing that she was going to be moving away from Japan. Hiro was sad but he told her that they will always be friends no matter the distance. So the day that she was leaving Hiro stopped by her house and gave her a baseball keychain and told her that he had the same one but with a different color glove and this is was a symbol of the friendship that they built. Once she was in England she was picked on her not being able to talk English right away but every time she saw the keychain she knew that she shouldn't let something like that pull her down. One day a girl came up to Kat to talk with her in broken English as well she wanted to know if they can be friends and that her name was Seoyun that just moved from Korea. At first, they would communicate with the broken English that they knew, but as time went by they were able to understand each other and they would play catch at times during school hours to pass time. So they would practice baseball and some of the boys from school walked by and saw her talent and asked her if she wanted to play with them because they saw just how talented she was. After that, they weren't picked on at school anymore because they got to know the real her and found her really nice.
After her 11th birthday, she was told that they were moving back to Japan because her mom's work was done and her older brother Keito was announced to be part of Jonny's Jr. (a pre-debut group under the largest company for boy groups Jonny's Entertainment) so she moved back to Japan and was enrolled in an elementary school in Tokyo. When she went to school on the first day she was introduced to the class and then she heard a voice that called out "Sumi" and she saw Hiro in the same class. Both of them soon began to play baseball once again while Hiro was the pitcher and Katsumi was the only kid who was able to catch his pitches and so she became the catcher for when they would play and fell in love with the position. Both entered the same little league baseball team and became the best battery (catcher and pitcher duo) in the league. Which the team became one of the best baseball teams in the Tokyo area always within the top four spots.
When they got to middle school Katsumi went to go play softball while Hiro continued to play baseball. During the summer break of 2007 it was like every other summer break she would train for softball, do homework and hang out with Hiro. But she was hit with something that she didn't expect her parents were filling a divorce and it was pretty bad because they were arguing a lot and it would scare her (her brother didn't live with them anymore because he moved out to live in the dorms for JE trainees). Since she didn't have anyone physically that she couldn't lean on but Hiro so she would hang out with him even more and that is when she noticed she started to have feelings for Hiro. After her summer break was over the following month her brother debuted with the boy group called Hey! Say! JUMP, and with the help of the group's songs (and Hiro being with her), she was able to be happy again despite the divorce still going on. While she was in middle school, her brother's groupmate Yamada showed her a k-pop song and the rest was history. Her main groups (at the time) were KARA, BoA and when she had a chance she would go to fan events or their concerts.
When she entered high school she tried out for the softball team and was put in the first team catcher and that day Hiro asked her out as they were walking home from practice. She was shocked that she didn't know what to say she just told him that she needed time to think and that she will give him a response later. So the weekend ended she met with Hiro where he asked her out and told him that she has had feelings for him for a long time and that she would be glad to have him as her boyfriend. So they became a couple and everyone was happy for them (well from the baseball and softball teams, the popular girls didn't like that she was dating Hiro). And they dated all throughout high school and were known as the battery couple (because Hiro was still a pitcher and Katsumi was still a catcher). During their last year in high school, both were given scholarships to play at the university level. They were both going to different schools but they were still going strong until one of Hiro's coaches from the university told him that he had to break up with Katsumi because she was part of a rival school and that they could use her to spy on the team. Hiro didn't want to break up with her, but he didn't want to give up getting a full ride to play at the university level. So he broke up with her the day after they graduated from high school at the same play he asked her out. He told her that he didn't love her anymore and that she was going to prevent him from reaching his full potential. Katsumi was devastated that she locked herself in her room depressed and sad not moving. Until her brother came and told her to get out of the house and forget about Hiro. He bought her a plane ticket to Seoul and made reservations for her to stay there for a month. So she left for Korea after her brother gave her an earful about letting some guy take over her life. When she was in Korea she started to forget about Hiro but still couldn't get him out of her mind. So she was walking around Seoul with her guitar she then found a bench at a park and she started to play her guitar and started to sing BoA "Only One". She got a small crowd around her, and when she was done they clapped and told her she was good at singing. After putting her guitar away Hwan came up to her and told her that he was a scout from Sunlight and he was looking for trainees for the company. At first, she didn't want to believe him and walked away from him. But Hwan didn't leave her alone and followed her for about a week until she agreed to go and auditioned (it was more to get him off her back). So she went and auditioned for Sunlight with BoA 'Only One' and the judges liked her but they thought she wasn't fit for the company. However, the CEO had walked by the room and burst in and said that he wanted her voice in his family. Katsumi was confused that she started to turn red until another person (that looked like a trainee) told her that he thinks of everyone in the company as his family. So she was an official trainee thanks to the CEO that fell in love with her voice.
