HYEJEONG
the girl has a mysterious way of being present in school while simultaneously skipping at least two out of five days of class a week. hyejeong is a popular name tossed across the student body; after all, she is famous for her primary role in representing geumbaekwon in fencing and soon enough, internationally. not only is she a prodigy, but also an excellent student. however no one knows hyejeong – she is too caught up in training and studying that she hasn't had much time to make friends. and in turn, most students know hyejeong as much as small talk allows them to gather of this seemingly perfect girl which is nothing. now that this baby project coincides with her break after snatching victory in her recent tournament, hyejeong is finally given some free time to be a teenager and to apparently take care of someone else's child.

birthdate. 010202, nineteen as of 2020
ethnicity. korean

actor. hwang yeji, itzy
understudies. ha sooyoung, loona and sung nayeon, april

appearance. 176cm, 55kg. hyejeong stands tall above her female peers, and is really pretty, i mean just look at her dark locks? long and naturally wavy from constantly being put in a bun that sits on the top of her head during training. she is exceptionally beautiful with her doe eyes held in a sharp gaze and rosy cheeks. hyejeong has an exceptionally adorable boxy smile that is rarely seen, where her eyes curve into cresents. however, something that is commonly seen is hyejeong basically talking with her eyes – her brow raises, wide eyed gaze; all have meaning.

attire. everything about hyejeong is neat and generally acceptable. she is the textbook example of a student, no earrings, no tattoos, no outlandish colours – just the chrisp white of her blouse and beige of her hoodie, a piece of outerwear that has become a symbol for the girl in school. some might say hyejeong is rather plain with her lack of make up besides some rose tinted lip balm. however her attractive beauty makes up for her apparent simplicity. predictable in dressing, even outside of school borders. if anyone has ever bumped into hyejeong, they'd see her sppotting some grey training shorts or black tights, paired with a band tee of either black or white, not missing out her signature cream hoodie.
            WHO IS LEE HYEJEONG?
an enigma wrapped in a beige sweater – hyejeong moves too quickly for anyone to catch a proper look at her. at a glance, her polite demeanor makes her a pleasant young lady, but she doesn't take kindly to prying eyes. she curls inwards at anyone's attempts to touch her soul. aloof and poised, hyejeong has an aura that makes her seem infallible. it doesn't make her intimidating, just rather untouchable. she becomes a figure of admiration, it's as if hyejeong's human-likeness has been stripped and she's transforms into an idea. behind those layers, lies a girl who is rather cynical. hyejeong knows the game of manipulation and money that everyone is playing. she sees the wheels turn and the strategic placement of numbers. instead of being crushed in the hands of the game of rising to the top, she's play it, and plays it well.

to play the game, hyejeong must remain stoic. she must be levelheaded and disciplined, pragmatic to a near fault. the girl doesn't give herself a break – she doesn't stop and take a breath. always working, thinking, training; having the thought of rest ingrained in her mind as weak. hyejeong remains strict with herself, following the rules laid out for her and keeping herself in check. however, there are times where she lays these unreasonable expectations on others. hyejeong expects everyone to be as cultured as she is, to be as perfect and skilled. what saves her most of the time is her self-control, her ability to rationalize before going forth with action. while her polite, almost demure demeanour prevails, some parts of her snarky humour slips through, in which she is usually quick to apologies unless completely comfortable with said individual. hyejeong is aware of her uptight, rigid nature. she doesn't take things lightly, every promise is acted out according, every duty hyejeong serves is done with excellence.

the beauty of hyejeong is that underneath the one who stands proud, beneath the girl who plays the game of adult corruption; is a girl who wants to close her eyes and see a world different from the one she lives in. a world she escapes to, where the people are kind and the world doesn't turn on numbers. a heart full of compassion and the urge to believe in true kindness and love. she's a girl who is tormented by her own stubborn thought that everyone is rather cruel. so she hardens at the thought and builds a wall to keep those out, to keep herself safe from the people who stay mean and bitter. while hyejeong plays the game, she's also protecting her purity and most importantly: her sense of hope.

writer's cut. hyejeong's character has a lot to do with the art of fencing, at least the style she excels in, which is defense. she is often times out of reach, never directly turning down an offer but definitely will tire someone out from always being the first one to reach out. this makes hyejeong rather difficult to be friends with, despite her outward appearance. she waits to be asked, and never speaks out of turn, always seeking permission before going ahead with her ideas. as a writer, i would say that on the surface level, hyejeong seems like a mary sue. but it is only when you start probing her, then you see the hairline fracture of her and soon realize how much depth she has in terms of world view and behavior. she has a rather over-confident mindset that whatever she thinks is right, which of course isn't true. needless to say, all of hyejeong's acts and words are calculated, if not by her, by the school or her family.
geumbaekwon. hyejeong knows the school only accepted her becuase her parents assured the director that she's represent them in fencing competitions and that when she reaches olympic level, the school's name will reach a new level of prestige. she can only smile politely when she given special permission to submit her write-ups and exams though e-mail, even moreso when they give her perks like being marked fully present despite her having to take of with her personal trainer to the gym, the fencing training grounds or competitions.

the lee cousins. when hyejeong first transferred to geumbaekwon, they decided to place her in the same class as her cousin, soohyuk: class 12-4. the two had been close when they were younger, some would even say siblings. however they have some unresolved tension from hyejeong 's sudden disappearance to europe when she was fourteen. a complicated family saga that will be delved further into detail later.

fencinig. it's her future. hyejeong knows she wants to go as far as she can, olympic level if it's possible. however she is aware of how shot-lived sporting occupations are, so hyejeong plans to go to university and become a teacher, probably a chemistry teacher.

languages. having spent some time in europe, hyejeong has picked up some conversational english; though most of it is fencing terms.

musicals. it's all she watches, really. hyejeong is not much of a sci-fi fan, or fantasy. in fact, she's a big fan of the old disney movies, even barbie movies – her favorites always involved princesses and/or tragic love stories. as of right now, she's always caught humming the moulin rouge and the greatest showman soundtrack.

principles. hyejeong has a strong moral compass, and even an stronger traditional mindset. while she is accepting of the lgbtq+ community, she still thinks that tattoos are not socially acceptable and that smoking is a poor excuse of a coping mechanism. hyejeong still follows the old belief that women are to sit back and listen, look pretty and smile. cook and clean, care for the children. while she does have inner frustrations, she knows its the game she must play to survive.

people-watching. it's a hobby hyejeong takes on the pass the time. she studies the way people behave and respond to others, so she picks up on habits and little quirks. this makes her rather attentive to sudden changes, meaning she is usually the first to know something is off with someone from observing their odd behavior. if it's someone close, hyejeong will take the unusual step to reach other first. in short, so don't be shocked if you meet eyes with hyejeong one fateful day.

time. hyejeong has surprisingly a lot of free time for someone who is 'too busy' for curriculum time. with busy parents and an ever-changing schedule, her lifestyle molds around her fencing career. and of course there are times where competition season is over and she has most of her day studying and watching movies, after a few hours of training.

love. while hyejeong hasn't put much thought into the big four letter word, she will definitely swoon at a sweet gentleman. (she is straight, not that she's had much opportunities to venture deeper) give her a dedicated love she will believe in, because she'll probably think of marriage. give her flowers and profess your love for her in song because i-love-you is so much more impact accompanied by violin and piano. kiss her on top of a building, underneath the moonlight? god, take her away with you.

children. looking at hyejeong, you'd expect her to hate children but she has a strong connection to those stumbling little ones. she believes that it's easier to interact with babies, no need to worry about them wanting something else from you besides food and love.

                                HER FAMILY.
her parents. a cage would best describe hyejeong's relationship with her parents. she's their beautiful bird that they groom and feed but never quite let out. all her life, hyejeong has been under the careful watch of her mother, who grooms her into the perfect daughter by instilling her values and beliefs onto the young girl. while her father does more of the talking, bragging about his daughter, adding pressure to her since birth. the only thing her parents have ever listened to hyejeong about is her passion for fencing when she was around nine, of course, it was thoroughly debated by her parents. they allowed her passion purely because they new it would make her a star, and idol for many to admire.

despite keeping a watchful eye on her, they are rarely home – seeking their estate in gangnam, seoul as more hospitable for them while leaving hyejeong with a lot of empty rooms in her childhood home; a landed property that hyejeong spent most of her childhood in where she lived only a few blocks away from her cousin, soohyuk. while she is a rising name in the fencing industry, she doesn't have the luxury of a dozen maids and butlers. she only has a trusted guardian, nam wooseok, a man who doubles both as a bodyguard and a chauffeur.

nam wooseok. hired just as the family landed back on korean soil after a few years in europe, wooseok is a laidback man with a simple job: make sure the girl is safe. he knew hyejeong since she was seventeen and she hasn't changed much since. always rather closed off, although he's seen the girl at her worst – in her pajamas and tangled hair, heavy eyes as he drags her from bed to go to school. the years passed with the same mundane routine: message hyejeong and update her schedule, reminding her to take a break from the gym, sending her to-and-fro school.

wooseok likes his job; it's low maintenance and high pay. he gets to spend all three meals with his young family of two little boys and his lovely, pregnant stay-home wife. however, he has formed a bond with hyejeong. though unspoken, wooseok treats hyejeong as his figurative eldest child. he cares for her much like any guardian would, is there for every fencing match and does much more than her actual father. occasionally, wooseok would have dinner with hyejeong, knowing the young girl spends most her evenings cooking lonely dinners for no one but herself. time passes in comfortable silence, occasionally broken by wooseok who asks the teenager about her day. sometimes they'd have deeper conversations and wooseok does is best to advise the girl who rarely asks for any help.

lee soohyuk. they were just children, where the world who sunshine and filled with laughter, hyejeong and soohyuk were like siblings, despite being cousins by blood – they knew each other since birth and went to the same preschool and middle school. it's an undisputed fact that soohyuk perceived hyejeong as his reliable older sister, despite sharing the same birth year. he'd cling onto her arm during recess and whine at her whenever she would leave for fencing training. they has a wholesome childhood together, until they entered teen hood.

without having a week's notice, hyejeong disappears from soohyuk's life just as she turns fourteen. all he knew was that she's going to europe to further her training, and that he shouldn't worry since she'd probably be back in ten years. however that never stopped the feeling of betrayal and terror in soohyuk – the figure he looked up to, the one constant in his life: just gone like that. no proper goodbye or explanation. just a cold cut. till this day, it's a trauma that soohyuk holds close to his heart and has never quite forgiven the girl when she reappeared in his life when he turned eighteen. awkward smiles and small talk mostly takes place between the previously inseparable cousins.

these soon turn into blatant ignoring on soohyuk's part when hyejeong sits him down and outright talks about the love of his life like he was some kind of monster. how dare she utter those words: bad influence, naive, truancy, right to his face about eunsong? from then on, soohyuk cut all contact from hyejeong, a complete reverse card on the girl. in retrospect, hyejeong is aware that it was rather rude, much less come from one of the only constant love in the young boy's life that up and left him, only to be replaced by his beloved boyfriend, eunsong.
                                 HER PEERS.
yuhm eunsong. while hyejeong has never interacted with eunsong, she knows enough to draw the conclusion that he isn't a good influence on soohyuk. of course, she's blind sighted by the fact that he smokes and has tattoos. typical of a traditionalist like hyejeong. eunsong doesn't think much of his boyfriend's figurative sister, he has enough inner turmoils to deal with. eventually she comes to accept their differences, but it will definitely take her a while to warm up to him.

jung sookyung. it may be because hyejeong wishes to pursue a career as a teacher, that she is so silently critical of ms jung. hyejeong doesn't like the way she carries out lessons, always second guessing the teacher, googling her notes and methods before fully commiting herself to them. hyejeong never openly voices out her dislike for the women, she maintains a very distant relationship from her, unlike the rest of the students a part of the lesson plan; who all are deeply in love with ms jung.

pyo jieun. writing...
                          HER LIFESTYLE.
regardless of what awaits hyejeong, her mornings start off rather similar – having a man shove the fabric of her curtains open and occasionally having water flicked to her face to wake the beauty from her slumber. wooseok admits that morning's are the toughest part about his job, and the most concerning, because hyejeong sleeps like a log: he never is sure if she's asleep or dead. instead of whining, she simply ignores his calls of rise and shine, which doesn't help the possibility that she could be dead. when she eventually does wake, hyejeong spends her morning sluggish, a part of her grateful that wooseok wakes her up early enough for her to take her time in getting ready and eating breakfast.

once in the car, it's when things start to differ: hyejeong spends the first four weekdays mostly at the training grounds, and a two hours of school before being picked up by wooseok to be sent to the gym. even after competition season is over, hyejeong continues to train to maintain her standards. on friday, hyejeong spends the whole day in school, however it isn't too long as it's has the shortest curriculum of the week.

hyejeong spends most of her time in school typing away on her macbook pro, taking notes and googling for study materials. she sits at the very back of class, so as to not disturb the lesson if she were to leave abruptly. during the few lunches hyejeong is available to attend, she's usually seen next to a small girl, pyo jieun, a chirpy girl in contrast with hyejeong's calm nature. you can overhear the girl updating hyejeong on the latest gossip and gushing about her idols in the korean pop industry, sometimes even making hyejeong watch anime on her macbook.

after her schedule, wooseok comes to pick her up from her respective location (school, training grounds, gym etc). once hyejeong reaches home, she takes a hot shower that draws out for an hour. it's one of the few times she allows herself to unwind. afterwards, she'll cook herself dinner, a large selection of healthy recipes her trainer sent her over e-mail; you can picture the tall girl in a loose tee, gym shorts and hair tied out of the way, macbook perching on the kitchen counter as she reads the recipes and follows them diligently. having washed up and cleaned her general surroundings, hyejeong retreats to her room and curls into her covers, doing her assignments and then proceeds to watch musicals before promptly falling asleep at around 10 in the evening.

on the weekends, hyejeong likes to occupy her time training and finishing up her homework – she likes to stay busy, and also at home. whenever she can, she tries to call a cab instead of wooseok, but the tracking app on her phone betrays her and it follows with a mild-chiding on the man's part. once in a while, her parents invite her over to dinner in seoul, and she's forced to attend their lavish parties in a fancy dress and curled hair from her mother's stylist. on better days, hyejeong gets to spend them with wooseok's family: be it family movie night or a day at the park, the girl appreciates the feeling of home, something she hasn't felt in a while.
plans. hyejeong acknowledges her persistent absence in class, so she does her best to take care of the child while her partner is busy with club activities and/or studying during exam period. with her trust issues, and know-it-all nature she'll definitely get rather possessive with the child. probably doesn't think anyone else besides their parents are fit to care for the child. hyejeong probably will keep a small notebook to log down what she has observed from the child, almost like she's her precious little science observation project. she talks to the baby quite often, treats them like her friend, since she lacks them.

expected mark. a+ bcs shes a sick perfectionist.
last comments. honestly, with the characters being submitted in, this is becoming less of a fluff and most of a melodrama-slice of life but im here for it sis. also her love interest: i was thinking a boy who's a sweetheart, a little naive to balance her cynicism. someone who isnt afraid to speak up, perhaps isn't as rational as hyejeong to give them some tension and banter. it could go either sweet or fiery chemistry. either way i think it would work great with hyejeong's character and the tropes she brings.

scene requests. hyejeong teaching the baby some basic english. the baby calling hyejeong 'light fury' or 'dragon' due to her similarities with the character from the movie how to train your dragon. hyejeong singing to the baby, with the baby. love interest brings the baby to watch hyejeong train without her knowledge!!
