Personality. 

Gaeul is the type of person to focus on other people more than herself. She is is a sociable girl who loves spending her time with other people (especially the members and people she’s close to) and is known to be rather gracious. She lives for interactions. She is known to live in the moment rather than dwelling on things and often makes decisions based on her heart rather than head.

She is warm and caring towards the people she loves and is passionate and empathetic. Gaeul is good at making decisions as she is decisive and also good at making responsible decisions. She’s the type that likes to plan ahead and follow routines.

She tends to focus much more on her family, and close friends. She’s a people lover and has a natural knack for bringing people together.

Background.

Lee Gaeul was born on November 8th, 1994 in Gimcheon, South Korea where she lived on a large farming property with her mother, father and maternal grandmother. Growing up, the farm always had something going on and as a consequence, from as early as she can remember Gaeul would spend most her free time helping out, doing anything she could. Durning summer and autumn, the family would often be busy farming plums and grapes while the rest of the year was often reserved for preparing, planting and producing gwaha-ju. From a young age her family made sure to instil a strong work ethic and sense of the importance of family in the young girl, which are two things she uses and believes in today. 

Between everything happening at the farm and school, Gaeul's grandmother decided that she would teach the young girl how to play the gayageum to make sure it was not lost on the younger generation. At first, Gaeul just went along with it to make her grandmother happy, but after a while she really started to fall in love with it. Gaeul started to pick up with gayageum rather fast and by age seven, she had moved on from playing a twelve string gayageum to a twenty-five string. Meanwhile, around the same time Gaeul was really beginning to develop her love and skills for the gayageum, some of her friends from school asked her to join the dance club with them, to which she agreed (as she was someone who never wanted to disappoint her friends) and slowly but surely, she started to develop a strong love for dance as well.

Gaeul’s life really started to take a turn in late 2008 when a video of her performing a cover dance to Replay by SHINee with her friends at her schools talent show started to gain a little traction online. The friends thought it was pretty cool but didn’t think much else of it. That was until Gaeul’s friend had come to her to tell her she had been contacted by a scouting agent from Star Empire who wanted to talk with Gaeul and her parents. Gaeul had never really entertained the idea of becoming an idol, but even so, when her friend told her this she was over the moon! She ran home to talk to her parents who were actually supported the idea if it was something Gaeul really wanted to do.

After talking more with her parents and contacting Star Empire, Gaeul and her grandmother went up to Seoul to properly audition. After a nervous audition and couple days in Seoul, Gaeul and her grandmother received a call from the agency who informed them that they would love to take Gaeul on as a trainee. After a couple of weeks of travelling back and fourth from Gimcheon to Seoul Gaeul left her farm life alone and moved to Seoul and into the trainee dorms where she officially became a trainee in January 2009. Later that same year, Gaeul started to attend Korea Arts High School where she majored in Music before moving on to study Korean Music in the collage of music at Ewha Woman’s University mainly focusing on the Gayageum in 2013.

After leaving HB Entertainment with the other members of Citrus, Gaeul took up a part time job working in one of the many coffee shops in Seoul to help raise funds for Citrus's debut.

She graduated from Ewha Woman's University with a degree in Korean Music where her main focus was, of course, Gayageum.
She has a youtube channel where she posts herself making covers of popular songs on her Gayageum.

She goes back home to her family any time she gets. She actually really hopes to take the members back to her family farm one day.

Gaeul is a fan of dark colours. Her favourites are dark blue and red.

Once Citrus leave HB, Gaeul took up a job at a coffee shop near their dorm. She also occasionally busks with her Gayageum.

In her ten years as a trainee, Gaeul mangaed to only stay with two companies.

Out of all the memebrs of her household, Gaeul is closest to her grandmother. Growing up she was often stuck to her side and spent most of her childhood by her. She loves spending time with her and will often go back to visit her when she has the chance. Gaeul's grandmother is her number one supporter when it comes to her gayageum and her choice to be an idol.

Best Friend / Pyo Hyemi / Twenty-eight / Former member of Nine Muses / ISFJ

Gaeul became close to Hyemi after she joined Star Empire back in 2010. Hyemi welcomed Gaeul with open arms and helped guide the younger girl when she needed it. Even though they were both quite young, Gaeul felt like Hyemi was someone she could rely on and still does to this day. When Hyemi debuted with Nine Muses, she never forget about Gaeul and would often drag her into the Nine Muses practice room just to spend time and have a chance to cath up with one another.

Close friend / Kim Beodeul / Twenty-seven / Manager of Citrus / ISFJ

As Gaeul is closer in age to Beodeul than some of the members of Citrus, she became rather close with him rather fast. Gaeul feels that Beodeul is someone she can really rely on and share all her thoughs with. She considered him a close friend and would probably even be into him, if she hadn’t bro zoned him a long timr ago. When they began their activities as Citrus, Gaeul would often help Beodeul out with setting up schedules and performances.

As they have the same personality types and probably values, Gaeul found it easy to get along with Eunkyung, despite their . Gaeul often finds herself hanging around with Eunkyung more so than the other members and thinks of her as the member shes closest with.

Close friend / Lee Chaehee / Twenty-four / Member of Citrus / ISTJ

Chaehee and Gaeul are the same age, making friendship quite easy for them. The two trained for many years without debuting which made it easy for the two of them to understand each other. They became friends after Chaehee joined HB Entertainment. Gaeul will often try her best to cheer up Chaehee when she is feeling down or discouraged.

Erika is like the younger sister Gaeul never had. Gaeul would often find herself drawn to the younger girl, talking to her and checking up on her. Eventually Erika opened up to Gaeul, who in turn started doting on the younger girl even more.

Gaeul feels like she’s been trying to keep Taeri in line ever since the two met. Because of her young age, Gaeul feels the need to guide the excitable and restless girl at times. After a while, Gaeul found herself feeling protective over the younger girl and often feels lost if Taeri isn’t around for her to keep an eye on.

Trainee Life.
[2009-2012] Gaeul became a trainee under Star Empire in 2009 at age fifteen. At the time, Star empire was preparing for a new Girl Group (Nine Muses) but unfortunately, Gaeul didn't meet the height requierments to even be considered for the group. This didn't deter her though, after all she had only been training for one year and coulden't expect to debut so fast, right? But after two more years of training under Star Empire and no news of an upcoming girl group or even a training group, Gaeul decided to part ways with Star Empire.

[2012-2018] Gaeul transfered to HB Entertainment after leaving Star Empire in 2012. As HB Entertainment had yet to debut a group or even really had plans to at that point, Gaeul felt hopeful that once they did that she would be one of the mebers selected, so long as she just stuck around. After all HB Entertainment wasn't that large of a coumpany. Even so, Gaeul still worked hard and tried her best at everything she did while training under HB Entertainent and after what felt like forever, it finally felt like it was going to work out.

Gaeul was put into a group of trainees dubbed HB Girls in early 2017. She felt like she was finally headed on her way to finally make her debut. She did feel the constant need to prove herself as she was one of the oldest trainees and she feared being booted out of the group for someone younger, but thankfully that didn't happen. After another year of training with the group that had grown to nine girls, they were finally given a debut date. But as that time came and went, Gaeul of course, started to worry again. Promised debut dates came and went and she finally started to lose faith in HB Entertainment until finally the nine trainees (and the manager) that made up HB Girls decided to leave and try to make it on their own.
