ELBORATION
before training in pledisentertainment, aeriwas a dedicated student. though not the top, she was still one of the smartest in her school and had consistent good grades. she was very strict on herself and was (and still is) a perfectionist. she always wants to be a better version of herself so she worked hard to achieve that. she tends to be very observant of people around her, silently watching and taking mental notes of how these people are. this is why the members say aeri knows them better than they know themselves as she notices even the smallest things on people. she is very respectful to everyone no matter the age, gender or job position you have, which makes her lovable to the people around her.
every kpop group has that one member who cries the most, and in sixteen’s case, it is aeri. she’s easily shaken up, which is why training was especially tough on her that she cried almost everyday. though sometimes it’s adorable to see idols cry on important events on their groups’ important milestones such as first wins and rookie awards, aeri’s case is quite the opposite. she has such low self esteem and is very delicate that pleadishas prohibited her to read any news about her or the group. she’d always think that she’s not good enough for sixteen, that she has no right to stand on stage with her members though she’s equally talented as her. she is extremely shy when it comes to new people, and never initiates a conversation unless you’re friends with her. she also tends to break things easily and accidentally of course, which makes her more anxious.
BACKGROUND
yoo chaeri was just seventeen years old when she fell in love for the first time. while training at a small company, naivecountry girl chair fell in love with a city boy, a fellow trainee who was two years older than her. Though training was tough, chaeri never thought of giving up because that was the only thing that kept them together, that was until she got pregnant.
unsurprisingly, she was kicked out of the company when they found out, but that didn’t hurt as much as when he left her completely. she couldn’t contact him at all, nor could she just walk in the company where she once practiced. chaeri regretted a lot of things such as meeting him and even auditioning to that damn company, she never regretted having her little bundle of joy whom she finally met at march 16, 2001.
while the company where she was once trained in went bankrupt leaving their trainees upset and frustrated, chaeri lived her best life with her young, lovable daughter. sure life was tough to both of them, but the house where she lived with her daughter was always filled with love and laughter. together with aeri’s ever supportivegrandparents, they brought up aeri the best way that they could.
though she very much loved her family and looked very happy in her home, it wasn’t the same in her school. she was teased and bullied for having no father and for having a single mom. she loved her mother a lot, and for them to speak of her as if having no partner was a sin hurt her so much. yet, she kept quiet and didn’t say anything about the bullying. it wasn’t until she moved to hanlim when she met real friends who stood by her side.
it wasn’t easy for chaeri to let aeri go to seoul to train. she has been there, done that and she knew her daughter will have an unpleasant time. not everyone even gets the chance to debut. she was so devastated that even aeri wanted to be an idol just like how she wanted to be before, that she got mad, not to her but to herself. somehow she blames herself for not protecting her enough, and especially for giving up and letting her go. she just couldn’t deny that her daughter has a beautiful voice and now she could only hope that she’d be able to see her in her television screen someday. at the day of her audition, she herself came with her to pledis where aeri ultimately passed.

yoo chaeri: her mother, her angel, her world. aeri has such a close relationship with her mother that they are often mistaken as sisters. being away from her mother has been very hard toher, but at the same time, aeri wants to prove to her that she could stand on her own. as her mother has been working in different jobs ever since she was young, aeri wants to repay that love by spoiling her with gifts, but for now, perhaps all she could do is to work hard and make her proud.
yoo sangki & kwon eunsook: much like her mother, aero considers her grandparents her inspiration. when she was younger and her mother was busy with her work, she takencare of by these two lovely people. she absolutely enjoyed every second she spent with them, especially in their farm where she used to help at.

kyla massie: aeri was never good at making friends but for some reason, she just clicked with kyla. maybe it’s because their ages are somewhatsimilar. they spent a lot of time together after practice when they were trainees, and even now that kyla has gone back to America, they still talk from time to time. sixteen members: the sisters she has been praying to have, aeri is grateful that she met her members. even to them it wasn’t very easy for her to get close with, and yet they were patient and kind to her until she finally opened up.
seventeen boys: though she idolises seventeen, with them being the main reason why she audition to pledis, she has admitted to her unnies that she’s terrified of her sunbaes, which jihae’s big mouth may or may have not slipped to the boys. svt finds it either adorable or surprising that they try their best to make her comfortable. she finds seungcheol the scariest so jihae tells her embarrassing stuffs about svt’s leader.

TRAINEE LIFE there was no arguethat aerihas a sweet, refreshing voice, but aeriknew that wasn’t enough. she knew she wasn’t main vocal material, that she was probably that vocalist who’d get the least lines in a song. that became more evident after entering pledis, a company who had a lot of great vocalists. she wasn’t the friendliest person either and she had difficulty making friends. there were a lot of times that she wanted to give up, but jihaealmost lost jeonghan, and she didn’t want to lose aeritoo so she convinced her to stay.

PERSONALITY jeonghan has a different approach when it comes to aeri. he treats her just like his younger sister; sweet and gentle like the older brother aeri hoped she had. but once aeri started opening up, he started to treat her like s, teasing her and making her laugh. whenever she does, jeonghan feels good, as if he had won something. He really does consider her as his sister by the end of the program.
INTERACTIONS
the thing about this show is that you don’t only see the improvements on the girls, but with the boys as well. back when he was a trainee during their 17tv days, jeonghanwas often seen at the background, quiet and seemingly lost a thought, wondering if being an idol was the right path for him. though he initially thought that he was not fit to be a mentor, knowing that he has a lot to learn himself, he knew that he should help aeri, and it’s not even because he wants to impress jihaewho is very close to aeri. it is because he sees his old self with yooaeri, and his heart aches seeingthe younger girl silently suffering much like how he did during those years. he knows exactly how she felt by just looking at her and her actions.
‘it’s a good thing you’re mentoring her.’ jeonghan would often hear from s. not only does jeonghanhas a younger sister,he is also very good with his words and actions. though she was awkward with him and sometimes doesn’t even look at him at times, jeonghanwas very patient with the younger girl. he made sure she was comfortable, speaking to her as if she was his little sister and even treating her that way. he was so attending to her on and off cam, and aeri’sjust very overwhelmed and grateful. it wasn’t easy nor was it fast, but jeonghanmanaged to befriend aeriduring the program.
it would be impossible not to have on jeonghan. he’s charismatic, soft spokenand is very attractive. he had always been like that, but it became even more evident on aero after they got close. but aeribeing her observant self, noticesthe looks her mentor gives to her jihaeunnie, or how her loud member tends to get all quiet and shy whenever jeonghansunbaeis around. he didn’t have to ask either of them. She knew there was something, so to say a little thank you to the two people who hashelped her the most, she does small things for them so they can somewhat improve their relationship.
