APPEARANCE : seo aera is stunning, as anyone who knows her would willingly tell you. long legs, and a youthful face are her claims to fame. she has a mature aura and nice figure according to the public, highly emphasized from her male admirers. her skin is a blank canvas, no shiny adornments or intricate artwork decorating her skin. not neseccarily because she dislikes the idea, but more so because she questions the hygienics of the businesses who could perform these services.

STYLE : aera mostly wears things she is assigned to wear. her school uniform, outfits for idol-related activities, and whatever she is paid to wear at the airport. in actuality, aera doesn't have or wear that many things. she has one trusty pajama set, a few plain t-shirts in neutral colors, and two pairs of pants. jean shorts and jean pants. she has one pair of sneakers used for training only and one pair of more dressy loafers. most think she dresses this way because she can't afford more clothes, but it's really because she doesn't like to buy anything she deems impractical. i have one shirt? good, i can wash it and wear it again tomorrow. is her way of living.

PERSONALITY : on the outside, seo aera is cool as a cucumber. unless you took a closer look, you'd probably assume she's a bully. in a world of coddled adults and participation trophies seo aera is the outlier. seo aera is trial by fire, tough love and harsh truths. the world is not a cradle and she refuses to baby or be babied. she's blunt, to almost a harsh extent, but she speaks the truth. she's not the type to say things she doesn't mean when emotions cloud her perception of reality. though she's not a pessimist, aera doesn't tend to look on the "brightside" of things. she takes every situation as statistics, using deductive reasoning to provide others, read as herself, with a false sense of security.

on the inside, her brain is like a short-circuiting computer. she treats her emotions like a virus, a thing to be removed. she doesn't like the heaviness she feels with sad feelings, the stuffiness in her chest with anger, or the way her heart rapidly beats when she's scared. especially not the way she can lose herself so easily at the slightest happy feeling. aera wants to be in control. logically, if she controls the situation, then she should be able to predict and control the outcome. in her mind routines and schedules will keep everything on track. she knows in reality they won't, but it gives her a small sense of comfort. though she tries her best be a loner she still feels lonely. secretly, she's always wanted friends, but the thought of letting someone new in that could hurt her inadvertantly scares her enough to not let anyone close enough.

TRIVIA :

I : the type to ride rollercoasters, go through haunted houses, and eat spicy/sour foods with a blank expression. master of the putting on lipstick on a rollercoaster challenge.

II : aera takes extra english classes in school. she's not completely fluent, but could be self-sufficient in a scenario where she could only speak in english.

III : actually very generous. the type of person to give every extra dollar she has to homeless people on the street, regardless of the possibility that it's a scam. the way she sees it, it's not her place to judge how in need someone is. if it is a scam then that's simply fuel for their guilty conscious, not hers.

IV : has the strangest sense of humor. she normally finds one or two things that she finds funny and holds onto them until people stop laughing. her current joke is tapping people on the shoulder and making them look the other way. she started doing this after she accidentally tapped another group member's shoulder during a moving sequence.

V : worst at keeping secrets, only because she's not going to keep a secret if it makes no sense. spoiler queen, they're going to see it anyway, so why not?

VI : every time she does aegyo it takes 10 years off her life span. uses the gwiyomi song as a math lesson for the fans. 1+1 is not gwiyomi, it's 2. go to school.

VII : if you have a manual or an explanation for her, she'll probably figure out how to do it within the first or second try. this is part of the reason she hates physical activities. her brain can comprehend the concept, but her body won't obey. this is the number one reason she hates being an idol. she knows even though she's giving her all she's still incompetent. isac is a nightmare for her, she wants to do well but she's not very good at any of the sports. normally the only thing she'll participate in is running, as her legs give her a longer stride than most of her competitors.

VIII : though she's one of the thinnest members of mode, aera still feels the pressure to diet. it's in her head mostly, but she feels that if she doesn't have a talent to prove her worthiness to be an idol then she has to be the best at what she does have: her looks. outwardly, she pretends she's ok that it's her only "skill", but inwardly she worries about how successful mode will be when she ages and people stop finding her pretty enough to excuse her lack of talent. aera secretly prays they disband before that day ever comes.

IX : fights with the styilst a good 75% of the time. she purposely ignores their requests to pull down the skirt when it rides up, telling them "if you're going to make it that short and expect us to dance in it, then you can deal with your stupid aesthetics being ruined when the audience can see our safety shorts." 

X : though she hates being treated like such a child, aera is secretly glad that she's younger than most of the mode members. when award shows stretch too far into the night, she's wisked away and sent back home without a second thought. the best feeling is when her back hits the cushy seat of the company car and she breathes a sigh of relief behind the tinted windows.

XI : really into everglow these days, like a ridiculous amount. states aisha as her ideal type ( mostly because she would never give a man more reason to pursue her ) but really she just wants to meet another girl who's as tall as she is. everglow is one of the only groups she'll willingly learn extra dances for.

XII : though aera isn't a vegan or vegetarian, she does find herself eating like one a good majority of the time. she's not fond of meat or eggs, nor most dairy products. pretty much the only thing she eats that's non-vegan is the condensed milk on bingsu.

by no means has seo aera had an exciting life. for the past 16 years, she's done what was expected of her. go to school, make good grades, prepare for her future. come home to take care of the house in the absence of her mother, who had died giving birth to her, and have dinner ready for her father when he came home. two years ago her father had been gifted the task of managing an idol group, axiz, to which he was elated. i've always wanted a son, he had said, setting his gaze of disappointment her way. aera thought he was distant before, but with his new, more involved role at work pulled him even further away. she interacted with him once, maybe twice a week, if at all, and even that was simply taking his coat and serving his meal. 

though any normal person would've disregarded him as cruel and dismissive, aera idolizes him. he works hard and even though tragedy wrecked his life he's still standing strong. he doesn't seek pity for his hardships, he pushes through them to gain success. more than anything she wants to make him proud, and be a good daughter. this unrelenting loyalty has always ended her up with an extra workload. for the past two years she's been working "undercover" at school to gauge how well dm entertainment's artists were doing among the "young crowd". and now, at age sixteen her loyalty to her family has once again overrided her own well-being.

of course aera had heard mentions of dm's new group, albeit disdainful remarks as her father scorned the company for taking attention, and more importantly funding, away from axiz. it came as a surprise to her when he suddenly took an interest in the group, mentioning they were looking for more members to complete the lineup. that weekend he invited her on an outing, to which she happily accepted. little did she realize this was to prime her for what was to come. they had departed from home at 7am, with the promise of visiting the library, only to end up inside dm entertainment's walls less than 3 hours later. 

and there she stood, hands clutched onto the bottom of her very short dress that had been acquired mere moments earlier, eyes pointed down as she wished for nothing more than to be anywhere else. aera felt like an animal's prey under the hungry gazes of the dm executives. meaningless comments were thrown about mentioning her figure, face, her beauty. she felt disgusting. no actual evaluation of her singing or dancing took place during the so-called "audition", but somehow she passed and made it into the group by just standing there. 

before she could open to tell her father that she didn't want this life, the words she had been waiting to hear for so long fell out of his mouth. 'i'm so proud of you.' and with that, aera let out a sigh, banished her feelings, and began her sentence to hell.

TRAINING TIME : 1 week

TRAINING : could you really even call it training? aera was thrown into a practice room right after her audition, the choreographer hurriedly teaching her the routine to mode's debut song before the group practice the next day. aera struggled immensely, her body was stiff, movements rigid. it was as if she were pinocchio after he turned into a real boy. she managed to learn both of the chorus parts before the practice the next day, but "nearly ruined" the whole practice by repeatedly bumping into other members when trying to learn the formations. the next two days was split between the vocal trainer, group practice and one brief class with the rap trainer, that she actually ended up enjoying. on the fifth and sixth days she catches up on all her schoolwork in between recording the album and group practice again before they record their music video. on the seventh day she spends the day locked in a quiet practice room by herself, dancing and singing until she finally collapses in exhaustion. as aera lays on the cold floor, staring at the bright lights on the ceiling, she lets out the breath she didn't know she was holding. with it come all the held back frustrations of the past week. she cries for the first time since she was young, feels disgusted at herself for doing so, and eventually falls asleep, the cold practice room floor tempering her hot tears.

【 MODE'S AERA PAID HER WAY INTO THE LINEUP? 】: after it came to light that   aera's father is one of axiz's managers, people assumed a lot of things. they   assumed she was an axiz saesang, they assumed her family paid for her to debut,   they randomly accused her of having plastic surgery. the rumor about her spot in   mode being paid for caught the most traction, but was dismissed after it was   deemed false. she still feels the after effects of this, internally feeling the need to   prove herself at any and every opportunity.

【 MODE'S AERA BULLYING HER GROUPMATE MIHO? 】: due to camera angles and a badly timed clothing adjustment aera was accused of shoving miho during a music bank photo session. it was swept under the rug fairly quickly as there was no real proof that she was bullying her, along with the fact you can clearly see her say "언니 미안해" in their so-called evidence video. aera came to miho first after the article came to her attention, asking if miho had heard her say sorry when she bumped into her, and again apologizing in case she hadn't. the girls made an effort to seem closer on camera which in actuality brought them closer in their day to day life. footage

hong yunseong is a lighthouse. light shining and leading the way for others, hiding the fact that inside is more hollow than it may seem. yunseong is selfless, but so so selfish. he'd do anything for anyone, mostly because it's the right thing to do, but he can get easily frustrated when his efforts aren't appreciated nor reciprocated. he cares so much for others in the hopes they'll care back for him, but he hides his own darkness so well that most are too dense to see it. he's obsessed with everything fitting in the confines of a so-called "perfect" world. he's a child, really. he believes in true love's kisses, happy endings and other movie cliches. he'd rather run than face the truth of his own problems, escaping into neverlands where the world is as he wants it to be. this is what attracts him to the idol life. the fact that it's all pretend. he pretends they don't fight. he pretends they aren't hurting. he pretends that those tears are sweat when he's pushed himself to the point of breaking. he's a fake, he's a phony, he's make-believe. yet there's still some part of him that half-wants, half-does believe in his illusions.

LOVE STORY : of course aera knew who yunseong was. she had seen axiz's music videos, multiple times to increase the view count, and even briefly greeted him as he and his fellow groupmates made their way into her home for a meal ( not that she was allowed to eat with them, per her father's rule ). she knows all about him, but he only knows her as the elusive manager's daughter.

it takes him by surprise when he sees her for the first time as mode's aera. not that he knew much about her in the first place, considering his manager never acknowledged her presence, but yunseong would have never thought that aera would want to be an idol. aera feels his stare on her before he can even realize he's been looking at her too long and next thing he knows he's being ushered away to head to axiz's next schedule. aera makes a vow to avoid him. yunseong makes a vow to learn more about her.

not long after axiz and mode's first meeting yunseong discovers aera's fathers true intent with making aera an idol. a few days before aera was recruited there had been some-what of a competition between the dm staff to find the final member of the new girl group. the employee who brought in the final member would get a raise. he's shell-shocked that his manager, who he'd grown to love like family, could actually do such a thing. it takes multiple discussions with his axiz members and a lot of flaking out before yunseong finally decides to let aera know. it happens at their airplane mode showcase, just after their final stage. he's standing there with flowers, as he had been for the past two showcases, and pulls her aside the second he sees her. her mode members with kissy faces and childish oohs and aahs. she sends them a glare before she's pulled around the corner. 

"if you like me, just tell me." aera sighs, hand raking over her scalp. 

yunseong is taken aback, suddenly stuttering over his perfectly rehearsed speech.
"w-what? i don't- that's not why i'm here, ok?"

aera crosses her arms and leans back against the cold wall of the concert hall. she's exhausted and she wants to go home, so she decided to get this over with as soon as possible. 

"look yunseong, i appreciate the flowers. i know they're not from my dad, as you've said everytime you've brought them, simply because i know he has an allergy to carnations. red carnations, which you've brought every time, have the meaning of affection. i don't like you, i hardly even know you. i'm going now, see you." she vaults herself off the wall and begins to walk back. yunseong instinctively grabs her wrist and holds her in place. "for once, listen to me aera. i'm not here because i like you. i'm here to tell you about your father. he got a raise because you passed the audition for mode. that's why he was so interested in you for once. he got what he wanted out of you. that's why he pushed you to live at the dorms, that's why he did all of this. he used you aera, aren't you even a little bit mad at him?"

he lets go of her wrist, and to his surprise she doesn't bolt. aera takes in a breath, turns around, lip between her teeth, and thanks him for telling her. one tear falls, and yunseong wipes it away with his thumb. she subconciously leans into his hand and the dam lets loose. she feels stupid for crying. in the back of her head she's known he was using her, but she let her emotions shield her from what would be the first real heartbreak of her life. they return to the group after a few minutes, her hand clutched onto the back of his shirt as he leads her there. he turns to leave and feels her hand on his shirt again, tugging him back. 

"um...thank you for being so nice to me. and..i-we have gotten used to having flowers in the dorm, so... i guess you should keep bringing them." 

yunseong nods and walks away, a smile gracing his face and a light flutter in his heart.

ENDING : ok so it's up to you but!!! would it not be so cute if they did kind of date tho? neither of them really knows what a relationship is so they just kind of go off their group members' advice and what the movies portray!! but again, up to you :) also lowkey i based them off mal and ben from descendants franchise SKDLFJ
