"The best way of keeping a secret is to pretend there isn't one."

-Margaret Atwood

A face that draws eyes. Confidence and talent that will take her far. A loving and powerful father. For most, Sera is a figure of envy and admiration; she is a girl with connections (warmth), a goal (a hidden box), and a plan (does she really?). She's got it made...right?

Ending Notes / Comments / Questions

This was a wild adventure, but I hope you enjoyed reading about her. I didn't mean for everything to be so long, but, uh, it happened. I hope Sera isn't too serious for your story, and I look forward to it!

Also, Sera's love interest may be another applicant, or she can simply remain an independent woman who need no man.

FULL NAME Park Sera (박세라)

NICKNAMES Princess / Queen

APPEARANCE

With looks considered exotic and a height taller than most females and even some males (170 cm and 64 kg), people find their eyes automatically drawn to Sera with her sharp jaw and defined features. Though not the only witch from Europa local witches have seen, her constant presence makes her an anomaly that few seem to be able to get used to. Her dark brown hair and lighter eyes make a striking contrast, and when she spends time in the sun, freckles line the bridge of her nose and her shoulders, a shadow constellation made on pale skin.

STYLE

In Terra, Sera wears clothing like a weapon, something for her father (and her reflection of him) to use at work. When she dresses up for meetings and balls with nobles and council members, people know: her dress whispers wealth and status with its fine cloths; her shoes declare knowledge and wisdom in its balance between the latest fashion trends and its setting of new ones; her jewelry sings tradition and rebirth through its ancient designs or its simple elegance. Her hair screams talent in intricate braids, and her makeup speaks of a skilled hand. From head to toe, Sera is a statement that assures allies and warns enemies alike with a single step into the room.

It is a sentiment Sera carries even to school, although gentler - her hair oft down and makeup lighter with an outfit appropriate in formality for the setting - in case she runs into someone politically affiliated (which occurs more often than you would think). She is a familiar sight across the campus, her outfits turning her into an ice queen or the sweet witch next door or sometimes just another face (a fashionable face nonetheless) in the larger crowd depending on her introvertedness and mood that day. Across campus, Sera is the trendsetter who turns her outfits into words, causing her peers - even those unversed in reading situations like cutthroat politicians - to approach her or avoid her with ease.

In Earth, Sera initially begins with a similar sentiment, her clothes used to blend in or draw eyes depending on her mood / goal. However, she also finds, with influence from her fellow witches, something in "comfortable / lazy clothes." While she'll still mostly stick with outfits that make statements outside, she'll slowly start to wear sweats and loose shirts or hoodies, pull her hair into lazy buns and forego makeup in the comfort of their base over her usual outfits. She learns not only that there is still attraction in this simple look and in stripping down her barriers but also that she doesn't need such armor when she is a warrior who can already hold her own.

PERSONALITY

GETTING TO KNOW THEM.

WHO THEY ARE.

Experience 01: Stranger
You look across the room, eyes catching on a face you have not yet seen before - beauty with a lean figure and long legs. You smile with a compliment that is charming and wait for her bashful response. Instead, her eyes look you from top to bottom, and she turns away. You lean on the counter in front of her, putting you in her field of vision and open your mouth with a joke on your tongue to melt her icy exterior as you have with others, but she speaks instead. She asks if your girlfriend is aware you're on the market or acting as such. You laugh it off, a chill climbing up your spine, but she's made herself a target and you can't wait to lay then leave her after her blunt slight against you. She smiles like ice and blade, still beautiful but now deadly. The smirk you wear thinking you've won slides off with each word - an attack against your pride and untarnished reputation despite your many girls. She stands tall again, not even a hair out of place, and anger seizes you. You grab her arm, a threat or insult on the tip of your tongue, but her eyes shine with tears as she begs you to let go. Patrons of the store turn to her desperate tone and to you, hand on her. When you hesitate a second too long, sharp mutters and pointed stares steal your hand away. You stomp away, mood now foul. A girl like that? Not worth the trouble even with her legs, not when you can get another.

Experience 02: Socialite
Your target for this evening is the ever-strong and ever-elusive Park Sera - adopted and beloved daughter to Park Sejoon and a formidable opponent despite her age. You know of her reputation but this is the first time you'll have seen her in person. It's a good shot to get into her graces and insert yourself into her influence. Speak of the devil. She enters the room on the arm of her father, instantly catching attention. Even from afar, as others flock to her, you see the deftness in her maneuvers. She keeps her allies satisfied and enemies wary, her smile like warm fire or freezing ice. She takes everything and everyone around her into stride with a grace that cannot be taught. As the crowd finally disperses, you carefully place yourself in her path, offering her a drink as one politician's child to another. She raises a brow, and you know she saw your maneuver coming. She takes the drink, an acknowledgement of your move and politely asks about your parents. Conversation passes, moving from topic to topic. The mental moves, like chess, began smoothly while testing the grounds, but a few more sentences in, and you feel the number of available moves dwindling, like squares hiding traps and leaving openings - choices only between bad and worse. Then, she gives a smile that is more amused and agreeing than prior and the anxiety dissipates immediately, the relief so sudden that it's dizzying and you cannot quite remember what it was you said that she approved of. The rest of the ball, she converses with you, and you leave later knowing Sera is one of three: the strongest ally, the most deadly enemy, and the most mysterious neutral party. As you do not think she is of the first to you, you fear which of the other two she will fall under.

Experience 03: Classmate
You are assigned a project with the local fashionista / princess by reputation / mini celebrity of the campus - Park Sera. Fear grips your tongue, but nothing seems to faze the Europan girl who throws out ideas and discards them after quiet moments of debating. She turns to you after every single suggestion, waiting for you to input your opinion. Even though your answer is stuttered and barely intelligible, she seems to have no problem parsing your words and takes each of your comments fully into consideration with explanations of her own thought process. You hesitantly throw your own idea out, only for it to explode in your face as she points out its flaws without any filter. You shrink under her tirade, but she pulls her lips upwards, looking pleased, and asks for another idea, a quick and subtle but definite compliment thrown on at the tail end. So you suggest another. And another. And another. While she suggests another and another and another. As the minutes swiftly tick by, the fear and apprehension melt away until you're left with a normal classmate - a beautiful classmate, yes, but a classmate nonetheless. At the end of the session, she smiles fully, the grin, imperfect but real, stealing your breath away. You are suddenly reminded that Sera is, despite her looks and reputation, very human. Rumors stated Sera was made of natural talent and sharp edges, and maybe it's true in some areas; but the Sera before you is talented by hard work, a standard she imposes on others and drives the blades that prune weaker branches to encourage stronger ones to sprout in their place. You exchange numbers with her and abruptly decide to, next time, ask to study for the upcoming tests together.

Experience 04: Friend
The closer you get to Sera, the more you realize that Sera is a terrible person. Not that she is actually a terrible person, but that she has so many flaws, carefully covered - like a sculpture moving its cracks to the back to hide. You see it in pieces: the honesty that proves rumors of her sharp tongue right; the hard work that pushes her until she sleeps only for a few hours because she needs it to be perfect; the self-reliance that makes it hard for you to offer your help, knowing she'd only turn it down; the politician inside that can't turn off its observations, every interaction a move on some invisible chessboard of relationship; the stubbornness that keeps her up at night and from admitting her troubles; but mostly, the more you realize you know her, the more you realize you don't. She holds everyone at arms length, including you and even her own father who is told little of Sera's goals or decisions, forced to piece it together through the same near-telepathy vigilance that wise politicians and gossipy nobles seem to share. You look up from the textbook, Sera yawning into her palm with the late hour. You smile, hiding disappointment when she declares she's going home for the night. Even after years of friendship, you have not once seen her asleep. You wonder if one day she'll finally open her heart - if not you, to others; otherwise, you worry she will burn out.

Experience 05: Summary
A deft atmosphere reader who knows how to act and react for the desired results. A brilliant mind who knows where she wants to go and how she will get there. An independent woman who could possibly carry the world. At the same time. A young woman who cannot seem to act or react genuinely, without thinking absolutely every single thing through fully. An awkward soul who can make allies with ease but struggles to make genuine friends. A person who has yet to learn that she does not need armor because she is already a fearsome warrior.

BACKGROUND

GETTING TO KNOW THEIR PAST.

WHO THEY WERE.

Prelude: Blood in the Water (00 - 08)

Sensitive Information

(to unlock, please wave
your wand to the side.)

Born the eleventh of November (11 / 11), Marvella Blackwood was born to a couple from Europa as a miracle. Her parents had, after a decade of marriage and no children, given up on conceiving their own and had been contemplating adoption until a week of sickness for her mother turned out to be morning sickness. The couple never took their little miracle for granted, showering her with love from the very moment she was conceived - starting with her name.

Growing up, Marvella was a happy child with a love and easy talent for magic. Though her parents were not rich, they paid an ex-teacher witch who ran the local potion store to tutor her on the weekends. Her tutor mostly focused on teaching her spells but let Marvella sit in the shop and watch with wonder as her tutor used spells to bring ingredients and made potions with happy, practiced ease and summoned creatures to help clean. She wanted to do the same.

After both of her parents got bonuses at work, her parents decided to take a trip to Asiaticus and lined up their annual leaves for a whole week. It was close enough to Marvella's eighth birthday to call it a belated birthday present, but it was really the family trip the couple had always wished to take their kids on. On the last day, the three had gone to the beach and, by accident, wandered into mermaid territory where all three were dragged under the cold water.

Chapter 01: Her Beginning (08)
Her memories begin with weak breaths, an ache in her chest, and cold, unresponsive limbs. She remembers a warm and kind hand holding hers, porridge carefully fed to her by a blurred figure, and the weight of the scratchy blanket on her skin. She remembers little from her time in the hospital - a near drowning complicated by a concussion and pneumonia - except for the kind man who had, it turned out, been the one to fish her from the cold water. He visits every day to check on her and talks with her for increasing periods of time, smiling sadly when she can't tell him her name or who she was with. When she gets better, he holds his warm and kind hand out to her, asking if she wants to go home with him and call him her father. She doesn't hesitate to say yes.

Chapter 02: Adoption (08 - 14)
Park Sejoon, her new adopted father, is warm and kind, awkward at times but with a heart forged into mourning gold by the death of his wife and young child years back - also by drowning but by the merciless clutches of a rip current than by mermaids. As both a noble and a member of the provincial council, he has plenty of work - political and social - yet he never fails to take time with her, to teach her anything that catches her eye (magic, history, cooking, fashion even) and answer her many questions with unending patience (races, Terra vs Earth, etiquette, politics even). Sera absorbs the information and love with a smile and an eagerness that lights pride in his eyes. While she cycles through her different childhood dreams, he's nothing but supportive. When she fills page upon page with designs as a fashion designer at nine, he sits beside her in bed and compliments her ingenuity with ribbons. When she decides to garden as a florist at ten, he gives her free reign of their entire backyard, chuckling when she makes a lopsided and patchy smiley face with colorful flowers. When she decides to cook their meals as a chef at eleven, he eats every bite of her slightly charred and very soggy lasagna. Though she hears whispers about how they aren't really blood or criticisms about how stoic her father is, Sera knows he loves her with every quiet smile and soft compliment and warm hand. However, as Sera grows up, his dark circles grow more pronounced and skin wrinkles as his age catches up to him. Sera is hitting her teens, less naive than at eleven as a chef and more visionary than at ten as a florist and with the social prowess of an actual designer unlike her at nine, when she decides what she actually is going to be: a politician (and noble) who is kind and wise and loves others with warm hands, just like her father. (Besides, she adds jokingly to herself, all those years attending stuffy balls and learning how to gossip-spy-speak have to be useful for something, right?)

Chapter 03: The Turning Point (14 - 15)
Sera schedules a formal meeting with her father through his secretary and enters his office one afternoon with a report she secretly requested one of his interns to help transcribe. She tracks his increase in necessary work hours, points out his growing age, outlines her growing independence, and summarily argues to attend Moon Academy. She doesn't explicitly say that she's worried about him, but she doesn't need to, not when he's been a politician longer than she's been alive and when he's the one who taught her everything she can do now. He smiles at her, the soft one no one believes he can do, and asks her to sit. She does, and after a quiet breath, he speaks, reminding her that he loves her and always will. He passes her a file and stays quiet as she reads the pages that detail her life before: her name, her actual birth date, her birth parents, etc. When she finishes, she looks up and matches his eyes - sad but soft and kind still. He asks if she'd like to change her legal name or birthday. She declines, asks him to sign her registration forms for Moon Academy (which he does), tells him to have a wonderful day, and walks out with a smile - soft and warm and something she learned from him, from her father - with the reminder that she'll see him at dinner.

Chapter 04: Moon Academy Overview (15 - 20)
Sera steps onto Moon Academy grounds for the first time at the age of fifteen, pushed forward with the knowledge of warm hands and new wrinkles. Eyes follow her but none see her trepidation, not with the years of practice she has keeping her head lifted high while slander crept through ballrooms and gossip clawed at her dress. With the tutors she had and her father's teachings and the magic knowledge she came with (from the tutor of her younger years, she knows now), she passes tests and joins her age group with ease. She knows all that the youngest age group is to know and, upon joining her age peers, jumps to the top five of every class with quiet ease. She lives on campus, keeping her affiliation with her father secret (to avoid nepotism and rumors of it) through a house her father owns and teleports to one town over whenever they want to meet (usually every weekend). So the years pass, Sera still appearing at balls on her father's arm on weekends and studying for classes on weekdays, grades kept high with her goal to become a politician. But some things do change. When she told her father she remembered nothing, she told truth. However, memories come back in bits and pieces. She knows her birth parents were warm and loving, misses what they could have been but mostly has lost any further affection over the years of lost memories, overshadowed by a different pair of warm hands. But as time passes, Sera finds herself enjoying the simplicity of making potions and joy of when they work. She recalls the potion shop her past tutor ran and finds longing in . She doesn't know how to say such to her father, to tell him she doesn't want to be a politician like him any longer. So she stays quiet, continues to study, and places her new dream in a tiny box in the corner of her heart to be lost. (Her father, though she does not notice, distracted at hiding the thoughts as she is, has known of her driving passion even before she had given it concrete dream. And though part of him misses the tiny girl who would trail after him, the gleam in her eyes saying she'd follow in his footsteps, he also wants her to be happy and knows that for all of her political talent, Sera has always been a girl of love who shouldn't have to play the sociopolitical field as both a politician and noble but instead should do something...something else. (He rereads the file on Marvella, eyes catching on the tutor she used to have.) Something simple and genuine - something warm - like a potions shop, he thinks. And he knows. He smiles, knowing it's perfect. Now, he waits for her to realize and tell him herself. Outside, his secretary passes his office, spots the warm smile on his face, and knows instinctively: he's thinking of his daughter.))

Chapter 05: The Last Year (20 - 21)
The identity of her father comes to light by accident at the middle of her final year, a letter mis-sent to her dorm neighbor from her father simply asking how much she would need for the potion ingredients she wanted. Said neighbor bursts in, threatens to spread news about her "sugar daddy," and instead meets social ridicule for a. slander, b. blackmail, and c. going against the campus queen. (The first two go against campus policy while the third is more a general reaction of fellow students; combined, said neighbor loses any credibility they ever had.) The truth of Sejoon and Sera's relation, however, is revealed to everyone and questions about her father as well as her future pop up everywhere. For a girl as private as Sera, the invasive inquiries cause her to sharp tongue to make many appearances. The comments and queries, combined with her still-present box-dream, make her aware of how she differs from her father and simultaneously makes her work harder to bridge that gap and presses a shout to that she's her own person with her own separate goals. With news of the end-of-the-year trip circulating about, Sera finally finds some breathing room as lips speak of that instead of her.

Postscript: Summary
Amnesia that begins with a kind father who turns out to be both a noble and a council member for the province. A life of love and kind warmth by her adopted father that determines her goal in life but also behind-the-scenes maneuvers and subtle statements that shape her outlook on life and personality. The truth of her past seemingly mere information to her until, during her years at Moon Academy, her old memories bring up a dream she wasn't aware she had. Sudden pressure to be her father and a contradicting desire to make it true and not. The end-of-the-year trip as a godsend so that she could think.

MAGIC

THEIR SKILLS.

SPELLS, RECIPES, RUNES.

Spell.

Average at spells as a whole. Is surprisingly good at wandless (not wordless) spells but only for spells she uses often. Has spells for household chores and gardening memorized because she had her own room in the dorms.

Recipe.

Her main passion and the main focus of all of her years at Moon Academy once she was old enough. Well-versed in all ingredients utilized in potions - even expensive ones, given her father's wealth and her own bank account, filled with birthday and holiday money from over the years. Has a preference for making consumable potions since it's less likely to be consumed by accident than applied. Creates / experiments with potions from all sorts of fields. Only thing she never does is make any of her non-healing potions permanent just in case. For example, a potion that changes hair color? Only lasts one year max. A potion to induce nausea? Antidote recipe right here. Is a strict believer in testing her potions safely first and follows all witch-lab precautions. By practice and testing, is able to create the highest level potion for only a single type of healing potion at a time. Need to prevent infection? Sure. A broken bone? No problem. Want to replenish blood? Ok. But all three at once? No. Has not created her own simple recipe for healing everything at once. Yet.

Rune.

Worked until she got her certification in level one summoning. Maintains her current ability but has not made much improvement since then. As a whole, usually summons objects from her stash of potion ingredients or docile spirits to help her with errands like cleaning.

Grim.

Writes everything in an alphabet she made up when she was younger. Literally no rhyme or reason to the letters except she thought it looked cool. (Klingon, which I do not own.) Started doing this once she found out that grimoires were sold on the shadow market.

Amulet.

A possible skill she has. Made an amulet once as a joke but it worked? Could have been a coincidence, could have been more. Due to her experience with her looks and position, does not want another reason to be viewed differently. thus, has never made another, so if she does have the gift, has not explored it.

RELATIONSHIPS

WHO MAKES UP THEIR LIFE.

FRIENDS, FAMILIES, LOVE INTEREST.

lee byunghun one (113)
lee byunghun two (113)

her greatest supporter and guiding star
fc: Lee Byunghun (actor)

Warmth disguised by a stoic face, most people see Park Sejoon as a strict and effective politician as well as a traditional noble who simply adopted Sera to continue his family line - even if not by blood. However, people who truly see him with his daughter know that they do love each other as if they were blood. He does not care what she wants to do with her life as long as she is safe and happy. He knows her better than she thinks, his poker face still perfect after all these years, and simply waits for her to come forward and tell him the truth.

yeri one (113)
yeri two (113)

simply her classsmate
fc: Kim Yerim / Yeri (Red Velvet)

Song Inhye, for Sera, is one of her peers. She probably should not stand out too much in Sera's memory and might not have, if they had not been assigned together for a partner project. Mostly, Sera remembers finishing the project to her satisfaction before the due date and a mostly professional relationship. Even after Sera's parent was revealed, Inhye continued to treat Sera the same, which was refreshing in the face of others' treatment.

jung eunji one (113)
jung eunji two (113)

her only connection to sincerity
fc: Jung Eunji (Apink)

A breath of fresh air amongst the nobles, Lee Eunmi is a rare soul who does everything with sincerity and, unlike Sera, never stops to think. She's a bit tomboyish and gets into trouble more often than not, but she's friendly and kind and is Sera's best friend, despite people constantly questioning how two such different personalities can get along. Sera is always there to lend Eunmi a hand and ear, simply basking in the genuinity of Eunmi's presence and hoping to absorb some for herself. Eunmi definitely feels the distance Sera puts between them, unable to help it, but she waits patiently and sticks by the Europan witch, hoping Sera will break down her own barriers one day.
