💣 LET'S BLOW IT UP WITH CHI!

FY!BOMBSHELL
ABOUT: CHI!

BIRTHNAME  Bae Yehan 배예한
NICKNAME(S)

CHIHAN   it means ert and not in the cute way. It was inevitable with her name being Yehan and her stage name Chi but this nickname really bothers her. Fans think they're being cute and funny but to Yehan it comes far too close to home.

DATE OF BIRTH  12-18-1997
PLACE OF BIRTH  Naeseok, South Gyeongsang
ETHNICITY  Naeseok, South Gyeongsang

LANGUAGE(S)

KOREAN   Her native language, Yehan has worked harder than she's worked on anything else to destroy the country dialect and sound as Seoulite as she possible can.

FACE CLAIM  ELRIS Sohee (RED VELVET Joy)

APPEARANCES  163cm & 43kg
Yehan is a pretty girl in almost a boring classical kind of way. She's often compared to a younger Seohyun until it becomes obvious that her demeanor couldn't be further from the future leader of the United Nations.

STYLE
Sequins! Crop tops! Shorts! Chunky sneakers! Yehan's style is anything that captures her fancy thrown together without any sense at all, she's a magpie attracted to anything shiny or glamorous and she loves showing off her body like she never left the MV set but she also loves the street look of oversized sweaters and big sneakers and ripped jeans. This combines into a total mismash of street/party glam that shouldn't work but she pulls it off with such confidence that it just does.

ABOUT: CHI'S PERSONALITY!

PERSONALITY TRAITS

+ bright, shameless, flamboyant, confident, free-spirited, quick-witted, social butterfly

Impulsive, ambitious, open book, judgmental, attention-seeking, self-centered, cowardly  -

ELABORATION  Yehan has always been the baby wherever she went. She's the youngest of 4 at home, youngest of the trainees together with Jungkook at Big Hit, she's always been treated as the baby. This has made her rather free-spirited, like she can do no no wrong since her age will be her excuse anyway, though one can ask which came first, chicken egg style. Yehan has no shame, she has no sense of image, Yehan will just do whatever Yehan wants to do. She's brash and she's loud and she's flamboyant, you know exactly when Yehan enters a room. Yehan wants you to. She likes to think that she is made out of the pure extract of life, the extract everyone else is just too scared to tap into.

One thing is for sure, Yehan has absolutely no chill. She's super dramatic and extra as hell. Yehan is a girl of freedom and fun, she'll throw a door open and announce that THE QUEEN HAS RETURNED just to drop off some coffee. She's the life of the party, she can make a total stranger feel like she's their very best friend! She makes friendly acquaintainces wherever she goes, she's unafraid to put herself out there and network and gather more numbers for her phone. Her humor ad commentary are sharp, every joke performed like a precious inside-joke. Sometimes her humor is scandalous and she makes you feel like you're lucky to see this side of her, little black jokes about the industry, about her lot in life. "Oh wow your comeback looks great! Oh I totally know what it feels to be nervous, well, I would if Big Hit gave us any comebacks." A wink, a smile, and she's weaving through the crowd for her next target.

She projects onfidents and security, vocalizes it even so that nobody has any doubt that Yehan is totally secure in who she is, Yehan is a confident queen, Yehan loves herself totally and completely. The louder she says it the more people will believe it, right?

We stan an unbothered queen except for when she's very bothered. You see, a lot of Yehan's flying in the face of convention is a front, an absolute sham, it's loud and substance-less. Yehan is very good at pretending to be the cool unbothered one while actually she has a deep-rooted need to fit in and be accepted. She has this deep rooted fear of being forgotten, a fear made all the worse by a hiatus, and she thinks that if she's loud and extra as hell, if she's a little scandalous and unconventional, if she'd just make people notice then she'd be okay. Then people will rememeber her. Then Bae Yehan won't have been a blip on the radar of life, snuffed out without anyone caring. As long as they remain in that limbo of hiatus she's going to be super antsy and worse than ever, so scared that this is it. This is all she'll get in life, a flop.

She wants so much, our Bae Yehan. She wants the world. She wants to be famous, she wants to mean something to a great many people, she wants her name to go down in history! Hers is a great pride that slumbers inside of her, a pride that hates to feel challenged, looked down upon. A pride that resents having to stoop, having her level challenged. She is allergic to showing weakness, salty jokes and dark humor aside, nobody can see her shoulders sag, nobody can see her lip quiver. Her spine must always be erect, a smile always on her face, a sarcastic comment never far from her lips. Unbothered queen is who she must be. She's put herself on a pedestal and she will not fall.

She's also scared about her own uality. It's all fun and games to be the feminist queen or whatever, but when it comes to actually putting herself in a position of risk and vulnerability Yehan shies away real quick. She's seen what happens to someone in the industry who comes out, she knows of Hong Seok Cheon and how his schedules dried up in a heartbeat. She's terrified of that too. She's all about playing lip service to causes but putting herself in the crossfire? That's the stuff of nightmares.

She knows very well that, for LGBT rights to get better and more visible, a celebrity would do wonders. She knows there must be countless of gay idols, but nobody wants to be the first person to take the jump. Nobody wants to be the martyr for the cause, certainly not Yehan.

BACKGROUND  Nobody would ever look at Yehan and think 'this girl was probably born on a farm' and yet and yet. Yehan was born to a large family living in a farming village in the south of Korea. She grew up helping in the field with her parents, going to the smallest possible school, knowing everyone in the village and everyone in the village knowing her. She escaped as soon as she could.

She practiced her dancing on her own in her hours off, standing in front of the television and practicing and practicing, copying idols and dancers on tv alike. She'd take long busrides into the nearest city for dance lessons her parents could barely afford, harvest rice and cabbage and radish, spend afternoons with her mother and the other village making kimchi by the tons for the whole village and biding her time until she could escape.

She was very much a diamond in the rough when she traveled on her own to audition for companies in Busan. She would never have chosen Big Hit if she'd had a choice, 2AM's ballads were alright but she wasn't here to become a balladeer, but she had no other choices. Big Hit was the only company willing to take on 15 year old unpolished Yehan on promise alone.

TRIVIA

1.  She hates talking about Naeseok and the farming village, hates admitting that she comes from a family of farmers. She lies sometimes, saying she's from a city near Busan instead, the accent is nearly the same anyway. Other times she's just very vague. She hasn't gone home since she started training.

2. She loves makeup, loves experimenting with what it can do for her face, loves the way a different color, different contour, different lip can alter her appearance.

3.  Her family is Buddhist, Yehan practices her mantras only when she's really stressed. She doesn't really believe in it but sometimes you have moments where you can use any help you can get, right?

4. Likes to joke that she has half the industry in her phone. True fact, if you need to contact someone, just ask Yehan. If she doesn't have their number she'll have the number of someone who's sure to have their number.

5. Is actually a good cook, she grudgingly admits that her mother taught her well. Give her a plastic tub and she'll make the best kimchi... if you can get her to actually do it.

6. She absolutely hated her stage name when they gave it to her. She now begrudgingly admits it can be kinda cute, but still prefers to be called Yehan even by the fans.

7. She adores RuPaul's songs after she learns about him, they're just so camp and fun! Really she falls head-first into the LGBT culture and she loves every bit of it.

8. With how tact isn't her forte, yes she would be accidentally casually xenophobic or otherwise insulting. She gets defensive when it's pointed out too, just because she doesn't want to admit that she was ty, but would never do it again.
ABOUT: CHI'S CONNECTION!

RELATIONSHIP(S)

FAMILY / BAE MINJUN (fat) ('72), SHIN SOOKAH (mot) (76) , BAE YESEON (br) (92) , BAE YEMIN (br) (93), BAE YEHYUN (br) (95)

As the youngest of 4 and only daughter Yehan was really the baby of the family and she broke her parents' heart when all she wanted was to get out of the village. She's only gone home once, for seolal during the darkest part of their hiatus, and it was awful for her. She doesn't belong here, she knows that as clear as she knows anything. She loves her family, in a way, but they also remind her of everything she never wants to be. That visit strengthens her resolve more than anything to convince Big Hit to give them a comeback again. She has to succeed. She will never go back to Naeseok.

(ex) BEST FRIEND / LEE SEOKMIN (DK) / 97 LINER / MEMBER OF SVT

Both of them were in the same class of SOPA. He was the first one who welcomed the little 15 year old country bumpkin to the big city of Seoul. She was a silly girl with a big mouth and bigger ambitions, he was a chill jokester who could reduce her to a mess of giggles with a single sentence, both of them were trainees with big dreams. They got along swimmingly.

Seokmin is the only one other than Hani (obviously haha) who knows she's a lesbian, he caught her having a complete and total mental breakdown a year before she debuted when she finally figured out that that aching feeling, those butterflies, she was feeling for Hana was infatuation not just your nomal hetero friendship. He's been really supportive about it even when Yehan was absolutely gutted at showing such weakness. Really it was a blessing that he found out this way, it's a blessing to be able to talk to someone candidly about her and Hana.

They debuted in the same year, too, exchanged worries and fears and excitements and hopes and dreams. Even when Seventeen rose and Bombshell remained stagnant they remained friends throughout the tension. Yehan would never show that it bothered her, would never admit to a weakness like jealousy. She smiles and laughed away his concerns and cheered them on, and she was truly happy that they were doing so well despite the barbs of her own failure. Even when Seventeen was busy they'd be texting and and talking. She'd chat freely about her and Hana and how they were doing and this and that gay bar Hana had shown her and how amazing the drag show had been! He'd talk about the fan signs and concerts and fans, always with a little guilt, and then he'd perk up and talk about the music they were doing! They meet up sometimes, usually with Hana or one of s present so nothing can come of it, or with face masks and scarves to hide their faces. Always careful, but it doesn't matter cause they're best friends.

And then she s it all up.

She's scared, she doesn't think, well she doesn't think about anyone but herself in that moment. She does the unforgivable. It doesn't take long for Seokmin to figure out what has happened as the articles flood the internet and Pledis is out doing damage control. It doesn't take him long to realize that this wasn't just a mistake, a wrong place wrong time thing. She used him and she used his career, didn't think what the consequences for him might be! She risked his career and hers without even talking to him about it.

He's furious, of course he's furious. Yehan is crying and apologizing and trying to explain but how can he forgive her for something as stupid and callous as this?

Yeah they're not really on speaking terms after te scandal. What happens after is up to you!

GROUP MEMBER / SHIM AHYUN / 96 LINER

Ahyun and Yehan have never been close, they are simply far too different. Yehan is too loud and boisterous and too self-centered to deal with Ahyun, and those eyes unnerved her. Eyes that looked right through her, could smell her bull, and Yehan has a lot of bull. A part of her feels threatened by Ahyun, threatened about her quiet impact, about how different and powerful she can feel. How brave she can be.

Then there's the dynamic of knowing someone is openminded and pro LGBT but Yehan is still scared to come out to her. It's not because she fears her reaction but because she fears her expectations. She fears the Ahyun would expet her to take a stand like she takes stands, to make a difference. To say the things that Yehan says to herself in the darkest moments under the influence of enough soju: that if she wants to mean something and be remembered, why is she so damned scared of this? Why does she only want to be remembered if there isn't a cost?

GROUP MEMBER / YAKABI HANAKO / 96 LINER

TBA!

LABELMATES / BTS

They trained together and she knows all of them pretty well to varying degrees. We she gets on best with really depends on how open they are to her antics. She hardly knows Yoongi and Namjoon. She avoids Namjoon for a similar reason why she avoids Ahyun. She doesn't really get along with Jungkook, he was too awkward as a trainee even though they're the same age and they never bonded.

Jimin is the one she gets on pretty well with but he's not her favorite. V though, put Yehan and Taehyung together and things get loud and things get weird. She loves Seokjin too for his own antics, and J-Hope is absolute sunshine how could you not love Hoseok?

Still with all of them is a bit of an undercurrent of thanks to you we got shelved. They just had to become worldwide sensations, didn't they?

ABOUT: CHI'S IDOL LIFE!

STAGE NAME  Chi
POSITION  Main dancer, vocalist, (maknae)

TRAINEE YEARS  3 years
TRAINEE LIFE  This was it, she was finally in Seoul! She had achieved her dream and had made it to the big city and wow it was so different! It was loud, people didn't look at each other on the street or acknowledge each other, she was anonymous. If she did something stupid her mom wouldn't be laughing about it an other late as it travelled from ahjumma to ahjumma down the village network. Yehan absolutely loved it. On the busy streets of Seoul she was just another girl in yellow SOPA uniform making her way to school. First she enjoyed being nobody, and then she quivered knowing that she would soon be somebody.

Yehan mostly focused on her singing and her dancing and showed her real talent when her dancing improved rapidly. From small town classes to making her way to Big Hit's most difficult dance classes one sweat-drenched night of practice at a time, sleeping in school the net day to make up for it. She made a lot of friends too, outgoing as she is, although her competitive edge remined. Friends but if push came to shove it'd be Yehan who debuted not them. And then she trained and trained and trained and one after the other she watched her friends leave her until only those she didn't know very well remained. Turned out competition had been unnecessary, who made it in solely depended on who was left.

TALENT(S) CLC Seungyeon

IDOL LIFE  As a youthful naturally y pretty girl with a social attitude, Yehan was one of the members who garnered fans in the beginning. Not as much as the visual, of course, but she was one of the most approachable members, and certainly most approachable that wasn't also a foreigner. She was an easy bias for those who didn't want to pay attention to the visual. She was also good at variety, very useful when one member still struggled with Korean and others like Alda were uncomfortable with the format, Yehan was all too eager to fill the gap. Loud, fun, cheeky, mildly insolent, she was a star on Weekly Idol.

At the same time she gained an equal number of haters by being too outspoken, too present, too attention grabby. Half the fans she gained at the start were turned off when variety appearances made her seem greedy (not always just seem either), when the rocky relationship of the members made her seem like they didn't get along (and let's be real Yehan could be a real tit), when, during the hiatus, she seemed more interested in her own dance projects than banding together with the group. That cheeky maknae excuse doesn't work for everyone.

During the hiatus Yehan and Hani set up a monthly choreography project choreographed by the both of them, performed by Yehan (and guests, and Hani herself once!) and filmed and edited by the both of them. Call Me Mother (performed after Yehan gets deep into the Itaewon scene) and Bad are her favorites. International audiences revered her as YAS QUEEN SLAY, especially after the RuPaul cover touched the hearts of gay twitter and even got a shout out from RuPaul himself! Inside Korea it was mostly crickets, who cared about the youtube covers of some nugu idol, even if it was BTS' sister group?

The dating scandal was rough, a lot of Seventeen fans her but it was nothing compared to the relief she felt scrolling through international twitter so it was fine, it was worth it. She could deal with hate, she'd been dealing with hate her entire career, she dealt with it the way she dealt with everything: conceal don't feel, keep your back straight and chin up, they can't get to you if you don't let them.

As Bombshell finally found their place in the Korean music scene things settled down, the hate and fanbase both found an equilibrium. She was still often a target for people who wanted so bad to see the bad in her (see: Yeri), when you're known as an insolent trouble maker once people will always look with scrutiny at a reprisal, but she grew as a person and Bombshell grew close as a group, things stablized for her. Honestly, Yehan is fine with it, equal hate and equal praise. Sounds like a fair deal to her.

(If she ever does dare to come out the rest of her story is in your hands!)

SCANDAL(S)

BOMBSHELL'S CHI SPOTTED CLUBBING ON HOMO HILL
EARLY 2017

As schedules dried up and boredom set in, the Korean night life became one of her outlets. Hani was well connected in the Itaewon scene in particular, she loved going to the gay and lesbian bars, visiting drag shows, revelling in the LGBT sub culture that snakes into every city. With very little to lose and slowly going crazy doing nothing, Yehan started to join her and it was amazing!

Gay bars were the actual best, there was no groping, no date danger, most of the men (and some women) were friendly and accepting, the queens were gorgeous and hilarious and catty, she felt accepted. Nobody asked if she was gay or straight, it was very much don't ask don't tell. She gained courage and friendships from it, learning new music (RuPaul became one of her favorite artists ever and she binged drag race), and she grew braver and maybe a little foolhardy. She'd request the DJ to play Get It or Black Widow and dance with a fervor and the gays loved it!

And then one of them filmed her dancing to Black Widow and posted it on Twitter and the bubble burst. It gained little traction in Korea, nobody cared, but the kpop and gay twitter alike praised her as the queen of gays, they raved about her RuPaul dance cover and her club videos, "Bombshell is for the gays", and then came the speculation. Her name appeared on 'kpop idols who could be gay' lists, people were speculating that her even being in a gay bar meant she was gay, etc etc. It wasn't a whole lot of people, but it was enough to seriously spook Yehan. She was getting nightmares, terrified of being outed. What had she been doing? How had she been so callous? She could't do this, her career was just getting started again!

SEVENTEEN'S DK AND BOMBSHELL'S CHI SPOTTED ON A DATE!
EARLY 2017

Yehan, panicked and not thinking straight, formed a plan. It was a horrible plan, a most selfish plan, a treacherous plan. She called Seokmin and asked to see him, maybe they could hang out by the Han river in the early morning? There would just be joggers and drunk people going home, no risk of recognition there. And then she emailed Dispatch with an anonymous tip.

SEVENTEEN'S DK AND BOMBSHELL'S CHI SPOTTED ON A DATE.

Nobody would think she was gay now.

And it was true, the Chi hashtag was filled with doubters now, arguments of if it was real or not, Seventeen fans dragging her to hell and back for not being good enough. Pledis and Big Hit denied it of course but the Seventeen fandom was in uproar and all of her social media filled with vitriol. Yehan was just happy, she was relieved.

And then her world came crashing down. It took Seokmin a hot second to connect the dots, he knew she'd been fretting over the gay club thing, and didn't it all just feel very suspicious? He was furious while for once Yehan couldn't contain her tears at the thought of losing her best friend. And she lost her best friend. And then her girlfriend called, furious in her own right. And she lost her girlfriend.

And now Yehan is alone.

INSIDER: CHI & SONG HANI?

BIRTHNAME  Song Hani
DATE OF BIRTH  09-29-1997
FACECLAIM  SONAMOO Euijin

LOVE STORY

- ACT 1 -

Yehan met Hani when she was a trainee at Big Hit. She was a dancer too and often had classes together.. She never did understand the butterflies she felt when Hani paid attention to her. Things only clicked when hthey were alone one evening, Hani tentatively grabber her hand and looked into her eyes and Yehan's heart beat inside .

She had a mini breakdown then, the one Seokmin walked into, and a long conversation with her best friend later and she felt a little better about it all. She was fine, she was Yehan of course she was fine. Nothing could get to her. If she was gay then being gay was ing awesome because she, Bae Yehan, was fucing awesome. Right?

What followed was a whole lot of flirting as the two of them tested the boundiers, probed for a connection. And then Hani kissed her and fireworks want off inside Yehan's brain and everything in the world at that moment felt completely right. The two started dating after, which mostly meant they were inseparable and and kissed a lot behind closed doors and went on dates that looked like friendship (thanks Korea's skinship culture) and were happy as can be. Things were tough when Hani decided to quit Big Hit, sick of not knowing and sick of the training and the condescension and the weigh-ins and the beatings to her self-esteem. She decided she didn't want to be an idol anymore and joined a dance crew instead but they promised each other it would be fine.

- ACT 2 -

Yehan debuted, she actually debuted! Things were fine, they didn't see each other very often for that year while Yehan was busy with group activities but they talked every day and they worked trough it.

Cracks were starting to form though, Hani wanted more emotional connection than Yehan was able to give. She wanted to see every part of her girlfriend, the good and bad, she wanted the vulnerabilities that Yehan was desperately hiding. Even with Hani she couldn't admit them, couldn't admit how the hate was getting to her. All Hani got was "It's fine, I don't care, they can eat my entire ."

That was just how Yehan was, right? the indestructable Yehan.

- ACT 3 -

The hiatus changed a lot of things for the better between them.  The choreography project did wonders, they were spending so much time together, actual quality time! Both of them loved doing it and it felt amazing to see something real in front of them that both of them had made.

With all the free time Hani started taking her to Itaewon with her, showed her the wonders of the LGBT scene there, of people who weren't afraid of being who they were. Hani herself had told herself she was okay with being the shadow girlfriend, that both of them had known that idol life was looming since they were trainees, that this had been in the deal to begin with. She couldn't ask for more but she wanted to. Yehan always promised her that she wasn't embarrassed, she wasn't scared, but she was just practical about it. She loved Hani but could never love her publicly. At least not yet.

The moments in dark clubs where they could dance together were some of the best moments in her life. The short moments when they were both free to love each other.

- ACT 4 -

And then the scandal happened and everything fell apart. Hani called Yehan immediately after.

"Please tell me you didn't do that on purpose."

Yehan couldn't deny it, she couldn't lie to Hani. She tried to keep her facade of strength up while everything inside her cracked and crumbled and nothing came out right.

They broke up. Hani was disgusted with her, that she would use someone like that, that she would be so disrespectful and ashamed of their relationship, that she'd be such a ing coward.

And Yehan cried.

- I'd like for Yehan to develop the courage to become the gay martyr, that first idol who takes the step.

- I'm totally cool with you moving the timeline of her scandals btw! Move anything the way you see fit to make the story fit together.

- I really look forward to what kind of resolution you'd give her with Seokmin and Hani! Obviously she did something super ed up and I'd love to see her grow to embrace her own weaknesses and vulnerabilities and, essentially, grow up. Redemption arc!
