he's pretty selfish in all honesty, more caring of himself than others. it's just something that he grew up with, to look for himself first and foremost. as much as he's able to help others out, he's more used to taking care of himself first. habitually, he would care for himself before others. an oddball who played alone really well. he's the one in the waiting room who'd start some game or noise because of boredom. his ugly faces were famous, probably putting out selfies of it much to the manager's woes but he wouldn't stop. despite how open and wild he seemed, he actually keeps his issues more to himself. he didn't like talking about his problems to others all that much, especially those he met in seoul. he didn't talk about his whole situation with his hometown and deflected the topics well, keeping it all in because that's the habit brought up from a pretty lonely life.
and when he looks up, sky so bright but so dark in contrast to the brightness of the sun. he reached his hand out to it, to the light and he thought:

he heard his parents call out for him, they who brought him back to go study once more. he thinks they do care too much, worry too much, because being best is great and all but when he saw the sun, he thinks that being the top of the class wasn't exactly where he want to be.
there's something he's trying to get, but he isn't sure what it was just. trudging to his parents, who rambles on about how he shouldn't run off and how he wasted time going off again. and he apologises with a cheeky grin, much to their fond exasperation.
there is love between them, but he thinks that there was also the starting of cracks. it wasn't his fault that his parents were so narrow-minded.
there's so much more to the world outside and he's hungry to find out.
he saw men on a big platform, under a light that shone only on them, sounds of people cheering for them. he watched as they showed off their dancing, confidence as they gave out their music. he saw the sun, the shining lights that pulled one in eagerly.

he watched performances, drunk from the charisma. the music show ends and it shifts into a variety show, but he watched as people laughed and cheer each other on. of people shamelessly throwing themselves and playing around. he saw some other children play those games in school and he remembered usually shying away ( because he's used to quiet times alone within the confines of his own world ).

his parents come back not too long after, and regretfully he gave the remote away. it was the holidays but his parents asked him "you haven't been studying? have you just been wasting time on the tv?"
but you always waste your time on it, was the silent retort he kept to himself. he went back to his room and instead doodled on his notebook of sunshine smiles and stars on the stage.
his heart was lit, a blazing passion blooming. he knew what he wanted to do in this life now.
the island was beautiful, but the people he knew were grey. especially his parents. he mostly hung out with other children, played the games he could sometimes catch on tv, learned about the idols and the shows he admired so much from them. he danced around with them and lies about group studies to go out and karaoke.
the seoul dialect was so entirely different, but it dominates all the songs and his parents forced him to learn it anyways. because jeju-do's still just an island, the big wig of south korea was still seoul. it was one of the only times he appreciated his parents nagging him to study, because seoul was most definitely the place where he could make it big.
he saved his allowances to buy food for the future. eating up the cheap street food or the sort to keep himself alive. sometimes his friends offer him bits of their own food too, and he's always so thankful for their cooperation.
he knew his parents well, they of old money who would definitely deny him of his dreams. even if he got good grades, they pushed him harder and showed disappointment in his lackluster performance. he wouldn't be surprised that if his mother could birth more children, he would be having a little brother that was going to be groomed to exceed him.
many could call him a fool, or a brave one, but what mattered to him was that he achieved what he wanted. he wasn't that great of a schemer, but a trusted friend of his was definitely a sly one, good in planning and happy to help him out.
gaining his parent's trust, he lets them send him off to seoul and tricked them into letting him apply to seoul national university and major in music composition. it was through his own connections, the appeal to his music teachers in high school and middle school that allowed him to learn music in depth. in all honesty, he could most likely fail to get in but—he had to get in. had to succeed.
right now, right then, always do what you want for the present instead of holding it off.
he heads off to seoul, not caring of the incoming fall that would surely visit him if his parents were to found out. but he's long decided that he'd be a sun no matter what it took.
call him whatever you want, but he was not going to be what his parents wanted him to be. for he was going to shine on stage, with arms outstretched and basking under the light. it didn't matter if he only had one fan, what was important was that he was the sun.
he's a boy of dreams and ambitions, he's not regretful or sorry for any of the consequences that came with it.
whilst not exactly what he wanted, it was a skill he would love to have. in a more practical mindset, he could be rich from the royalties of his songs if he became successful enough ( and he would be thank you ).
it honestly didn't take long for his parents to find out what he did. they were undeniably furious, getting themselves to seoul to scream into his ears. however, he was no longer going to play the obedient son. standing on his ground, he held his head high and warred against their screeches with a calm and piercing response.
he told them plainly that he was not going to be their puppet. he was not going to do what they want. this was his life and it always had been. it was his decision, his passion, to be so much more than a man in the office or an unsung hero, he was going above and beyond the sun.
perhaps it was because of the worry of how it was so easy to fail in the path of stardom, but he was not a man that would give it all up for that. he was not naive, he knew the consequences. but why must he fret so much? why must he worry so? he was only going to build up an anxiety, only setting himself up for a life that wouldn't reach the peak of his joy.

dedicated boy, one may call him to be like icarus, but he would like to tell you that he wasn't. for icarus burned, but he would flourish. for he was going to be the sun, that's what he promised himself. and as years go by, the man showed a talent in music. in his early years in seoul, he came across the underground rapping scene, saw paloalto and the sort live and fell in love once more.
he had sang, learned how to do so as well. but there's a beauty in the rhythym, of fast paced lyrics and the strong show that came with it which attracted him. he started to learn how to rap, even socializing with some of the people here and there to learn about rap. whilst not really joining in the scene, there's an admiration for how it worked ( although he do detest it when there were prejudices against idol rappers ).
seoul was big and wild, noisy and bright even to the night. he was truly amazed by the scene so different from quiet jeju-do, and sometimes he wished to take a whiff of sea breeze, of the feeling of sand underneath his feet, and the taste of his hometown's specialties. but he gave that up, gave it up until he reached stardom.
it's a whole new world, but he explored it with gusto. and his brightness, the eager desire to learn, soon land him with the chance to be scouted by a man named lee hwan from the company sunlight. he couldn't help but smile wildly and agree to join with ease.
after all, a company called sunlight and a boy dreaming to be the sun seemed to be a match made in heaven.

he was actually more trained to compose more classical and instrumental pieces. but due to his love for rapping and idols, he learned how to compose in other manners as well. however, he did want to understand the final team's vocal color and content better ( like after they produced two albums ) before he would submit anything. generally the compositions he would make on his spare time are that akin to hiroyuki sawano, but for the group his style is more like ilhoon of btob.
VARIETY TWIN.
his main twin for variety is lee seunggi, proud and boasting of his capabilities with a knack of mcing. he also was very genuine in what he does and lieks to get competitive. however he's willing to throw away his image much like yook sungjae.
LIFE.
whilst he was training in sole, he had been on his last year of university. it was definitely hectic, but he managed to pull it off with great passion ( albeit coming home crashing downn was definitely a sign of overexertion ). it got better in the second year when he got more free time, and he had been a lot brighter and showed better results there. he actually had to drop the track and field club for the idol training, but he didn't mind it so much for his dreams.
he was the social butterfly that liked to talk with everyone—staff or not, he interacted with everyone and tried to brighten the mood up when tough days came. although he did look out for himself first and was cocky, which led to some trainees not finding him so likeable, his passion was noteworthy and to be admired. becoming close friends with jiseon in particular really helped out with being more likeable due to the boy's popularity as a bright soul.
some fans did detective work when they realized on an instagram live with jinseok, he had played the wrong song. it was unknown but the short seconds played was said to be sound like a drama's bg music. a week later, helios uploaded a song and a fan noted similarities between the compositions. finally, jinseok revealed that yes, he was the mysterous helios.

on hello counselor, sole's jinseok was a celebrity guest alongside ( insert other sole members here ). the concerned guest today came with issues of dreams against family wishes. the child suffered from the constant restrictions and how strict their parents were, whilst the couple tried to defend myself with the safe life is a good life speech. jinseok, usually bright and happy remained silent and listened to both parties and said:
"i am a believer of doing what you love most. my parents wants me to be a businessman or a lawyer, the usual stuff. but that wasn't me. i know parents worry, but don't you think forcing a life plan on your children is bad too? why must they do that to be happy?" he took a deep breath, looked at everyone with sincere eyes. "i've nearly been disowned, i've been practically banned to come to my hometown until i succeed as an idol, but you know what? being here, on this stage, being able to rap, being able to do what i love...i'm the happiest i could ever be. it's always a big concern for me to see everyone being put down by the claims of what society felt is the right path to take, when we should broaden our perspectives and aim to do what we love most for it is there where we can find happiness."

to be frank, they were never really close. his parents were usually busy and never really supported him in what he wanted to do. his parents trusted him still, though, but it was broken by his scheme that let him be a music composition majored instead of a business one. for nearly four years they didn't talk, and he merely lets his actions and the day he got on tv to speak for him before he faced them. he wanted to return to jeju-do after getting first on a music show and being well-known to win his end of the deal though.
( it should be noted that his parents did care, very much in fact, but it's just that they didn't know how to handle the sun with so much dreams. so different and bright. it led to this now, and even if the couple were the one that decided to end connections until further notice, they found themselves waiting for any news of their son on stage. )
the social butterfly loved to go around and talk to the staff members about their experiences and the sort. he's always eager to learn and get better, dedicated to his cause.
he's especially close to the producers, nara, somin and surprisingly hyuk. he liked to go to the producers and learn about how they do their music. telling them he majored in music composition and wanting to know how the producers did it and made songs that were more suitable for idol groups. they're the ones he told about his identity as helios. he's the talker between the three but they all clicked when it came to making music despite the varying genres.
he was the one who stayed back and constantly asked nara for tips and all. as he strived to be a rapper, he always wanted to more about it. he figured out nara was a shy one soon enough, but he merely brought her out of her shell and even helped bring her out to hang out with the other staff members to open up more.
somin and him have a more friendly banter-like relationship. he's the wild member that tends to annoy her but he also became more of that child to be ffondly exasperated about. and admittedly, his fun and playful attitude in the waiting room can put ease to nerves and the sort.
he was close friends with hyuk mainly because of jiseon being much like him with nara—eager to learn and staying back to do so. being the social butterfly he was, he'd also stay back and wanted some pointers and help with his dances since he knew he wasn't really the best at it. so that's how he ended up talking to hyuk more and getting to know the man.
the awesome dad he gets to play around with. he loved to belt out into random songs and dreg ashton into it, or probably pull him into a dumb game of blowing tissues to the other's 'goal area'. there's never a dull moment with these two dorks going about what they can to liven things up it seemed.
the introverted and insecure child never saw it coming. the bright sun came barelling into his world and wanted to bring jungil out of his shell and put some confidence into him. he would eagerly try and bring him more into the spotlight or be his cheering squad to boost his self-esteem. his efforts seemed to double when he found out they got into sole. he wanted everyone to shine like the sun after all!

PERSONALITY.
he liked to think of the most positive outcome rather than the negative, always bright and believing the best will happen. he wanted to think of great occurrences that could happen and wish to bring positivity to the people around him as he's been through some horrible things himself and in the end, things worked out for the better. he was a believer of everyone will receive good things in the future so he tried to not let the bad hurt him so much, especially since that could end up hurting others too. he's also quite the energetic fellow who would still be lively even after days and days of work. he would charge everyone else by his contagious energy and be willing to do any work needed to be done that the other members couldn't manage because they're so tired.
now, this led to the motherly trait of his. he's a good-natured and reliable soul who would take care of everyone else and tend to end up being selfless as he puts more workload on himself because he wished for the others to rest with ease. he would always cook for the other trainees when they had the time, prepare the necessary items and extras just in case the others didn't bring it ( although he would also be checking everyone's bag and making sure that they truly didn't leave anything behind anyway ), clean up the whole dorm whenever possible, and always kept in mind of everyone's schedules so they could get ready in time. he's not a naggy kind of mother, but he's the one who makes sure all his kids would be ready and taken care of. after all, he wanted them all to relax as long as they could with their busy schedules and make them happy.
he was also quite the social butterfly. after he left his middle school and entered a better environment, it became easier to talk to others, especially since his confidence heightened during these times. he was friendly, charming, and just knew how to be pleasant to talk to. he loved to make friends and enjoyed to keep good relationships with all. this also meant that most times he left a good first impression on others which is good considering his occupation.
he's honest to a fault, he'd rather stay true than to lie. he was one to always be sincere with his words and show off genuine reactions, making him easy to believe in as everyone knew he would not betray a soul if he could. he could keep information hidden, though, but if probed enough or you tricked him into it, he would tell the truth. but his honesty can become much too blunt at times, and sometimes he had the tendency to just say things out of the blue, leading to a rather harsh, but true, comment to be said. he's also an adventurous fellow who loved to do something new or exciting, although most times he never really did due to his dedication to dancing and tending to his family. but now, he's more prone to wanting to do something exciting with the group where they could get out of their comfort zone to do something truly exciting.
he's known to be effeminate too, which can be charming to others but also a flaw to others. he was known to enjoy painting his nails, to let his sister put makeup on him that wasn't the standard kpop look, for gestures that tend to be considered girly and more. plus, he's lived with girls for all of his life and just understood them more than guys. in fact, even if he's a kind boy he had to admit that gossiping was fun, especially since his sister seemed to just have so many interesting tales. overall, his effeminate nature caused people to judge him but also find it adds to his charms.
extremely gullible was he, had it not been for his family and friends—he would have been scammed much too many times already. it's easy to trick him into doing things, and he also rather would believe in others than doubt them. in variety shows, he'd be the unfortunate soul getting betrayed at one point because it simply was too easy to do so. even if one lied to him a lot, and he may end up whining a bit about it, he would still trust them anyways.
despite his motherly nature and good heart, he could be quite the self-indulgent person. it didn't show in such obvious ways, but if one knew him they'd notice it. all he did were things he wanted to do, whether it was cleaning up the house, helping others, taekwondo, dancing and so on and so forth. they were all his passion and he gave his all in it. however, he didn't show this motivation in anything else. in fact, he barely passed school until he went to college and was a dance major there, something he was dedicated to. he can try out new things suggested by others, but if he's not so fond of it—it shows and he would be lackluster in them rather than when he was doing something he loved.
such a restless soul, this man that was. he couldn't stand still and he had to do something whenever he could. even in sleep, he moved around a lot. even after a tiring day of training, he wouldn't rest so easily. he's been filling up his schedule to the brim since middle school and it became difficult to just relax and not do work. he can also be very impulsive as shown with how a lot of things such as joining k-tigers or sunlight were initially mere impulses he had. he can end up doing something stupid because of it. and as reliable as he was, once left to his own devices and choices he may end up doing something so very reckless in his boredom.

FIRST MEETING.
they met each other in sunlight, new bloods with passionate souls and very extroverted. the two hit it off the moment they came across each other, bright smiles, never-ending conversations, and a promise to see each other the next day. there's nothing special to it, just two souls coming across each other and socializing, but they just knew it'd be fun to see each other the next day.
and in jinseok's mind, he's seen many people in his time but no one ever embodied the sun so perfectly like jiseon did.
DEVELOPMENT.
o1. jinseok's got a fascination with the sun, always had and always will. that was why when he made some ugly face once again and jiseon laughed, he's fascinated. drawn to it like a moth to light, icarus to the sun. he blurts out a comment, lips pulled into a charming grin "it's unfair how you got such a pretty smile."
it caused the other to flush, and as yellow and sunny the other was, he couldn't help but think how pretty in pink he was too. the momentary pause was eliminated through a switch of topics, and the two merely talked about what they learned once more.
o2. there were things jinseok didn't say. like how he was jealous of jiseon who had such a beautiful and loving family that remained so close unlike his. how sometimes he switch topics because he didn't want to talk about home that was so, so far away for him. jiseon was a little bit gullible, sunshine boy that didn't know a thing.
or so he thought.
once, it was just them. and jiseon asked him with that caring and sweet voice of his about his family. it was his mistake to turn and face him, eyes locking and the usual words caught in his throat.
jiseon moved closer, intertwined his fingers with his own and his gentle gaze like a the sunlight against him. the warmth of his hand better than a summer's day. the chatterboc of a man was quiet in the face of the younger, much more mature trainee, and he wanted to shrug it off but—
"you trust me, right?"
he didn't like to be compared to icarus, but he thought this must be what it was like for the winged boy when he got too close to the sun.
he pulled away instead, playful grin in play but raising his walls. for jinseok wasn't one to open up his world to others.
he's on top of the world, and he's alone.
and jiseon looks at him with sad, sad eyes and his heart wrenched at the sight. but the truth was that there could only be one sun in the world.
o3. people thought they're alike. bright boys with great passion and so much like the sun. but they're also so different, one who cared for others whilst the other cared for himself. jinseok was selfish, and he was usually to himself despite all his connections.
jiseon's gullible, but he wasn't obivious. his big, big heart now seek to envelop him. the younger but bigger man was always so attentive of him, worried of him working too much and oh please eat more.
jinseok just believed that jiseon worried too much. and jiseon lets himself be lavished by the attention, admittedly relishing underneath this sun only shining down on him. the two tend to be the ones staying back to train longer, and one day he watched jiseon just...crash.
jinseok may be selfish, but he wouldn't leave jiseon alone like that. and even when he was in such a crappy state, the sunny boy now so dimmed pleads him to not tell others.
jinseok reluctantly complied, brought him back to his own tiny place and made sure he was cared for. after a good night's rest, he sends off jiseon to back to his place and awkwardly fumbled around him. because jinseok didn't really care for others, but jiseon had always cared too much and gosh, how did he do it? as soon as they reach jiseon's place, jinseok denied any requests to stay behind as he awkwardly hsoved his hands into his pockets. told him he got to leave now and left him to return to his home.
if jinseok grew more attentive to jiseon and showed signs of worry...well, maybe he can deal with sharing with one person right?
o4. jinseok was a lonely boy. jiseon wasn't. jiseon invaded his world, and jinseok couldn't really push him away.
beautiful sun, jinseok thought of him as such. and it's completely unfair how this man just decided to claim a spot like that. but jinseok's a man of right now, he's also a daring soul, and he wouldn't like to spend time on his regrets.
so when they were chilling in his home, just the two of them and jiseon smiles that gorgeous smile of his—he had no qualms on crawling onto his lap and crashing their lips together. jiseon responding it by holding him closer and keeping it going was just a plus.
when they pulled away, he grinned and asked cutely "so, boyfriends~?"
it brought out laughter from the other, and jinseok cooed at how adorable jiseon was. flushed cheeks and a meek nod rewarded the other a bunch of cuddles.
jinseok's isolated, but he thinks jiseon does a great job in feeling the emptiness in his heart.
o5. jinseok and jiseon were good at playing secrets. mainly because jiseon was already so affectionate and jinseok was the kind to accept it all with ease. the two were bright people and no one bats an eye when jiseon brings jinseok into a big warm hug.
jinseok opened himself up more to jiseon too, told him slowly about the wonderful place his hometown was. he'd complain about his parents nagging at him to study too. of good friends that broadened his perspective of the world and helpful teachers that lets him build the skills for his passion.
he told him he missed home. he told him how he wished his family was as supportive as the younger's. he's supposed to be the sun, but that day he found himself to be like the rain.
jiseon, though, jiseon was truly the sun.
and as he cloud himself with darkness and his cheeks drenched, jiseon comes to light up the world and washed it all of with his warmth.
jinseok liked to see himself as the sun, he knew the world could only have one.
but he wasn't the sun at all, not after meeting jiseon.
o6. jinseok found it easier to open up more because of jiseon. and truly the two were quite the inseperable duo. most people might not like his cocky attitude, but jiseon had a knack for convincing others to give him a second chance.
but when sole was being announced, jiseon wasn't included at all.
it wasn't world crushing, just a bit of a disappointment. jinseok pouts at the loss of a chance of staying together with jiseon, but overall the two remained optimistic.
even if the schedule gets rough, it's not like they hadn't dealt with worse. this was just going to be another trial to overcome. looking at jiseon, he smirked "can't wait to compete with you for that first place."
i know you'll debut too and we'll be on stage together, were the unsaid words.
jiseon laughs in turn, nods and wraps his pinky around jinseok's. like dreaming children oblivious to the reality around them "i'll get there soon."
