Fic Meme 2019 - Belated look back on last year's writing

Total stories published: This depends on whether you're looking on AFF or ao3. It's 9 on AFF (where Orbiting Bodies is all together), 12 on ao3, and add 2 more on if tweetfics count (that didn’t get crossposted). And then I did a few drabbles that were just on Twitter/Tumblr that weren’t full tweetfics, so I won’t count those.

Total Word Count: ~130k, wow, super similar to last year! (125k last year)

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
Definitely more. I thought I hadn’t written as much but What the Nightingale Spies was a lot and Guarding My Heart ended up being way longer than I would’ve anticipated.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
All Kaisoo still, but… Chendy was a new development, I guess? I had known in 2017 that I was gonna write them as a side pairing in WTNS, but they didn’t officially come together until 2018. The other side pairing in WTNS, too, but I’ll keep it hush hush to not spoil if ppl haven’t read it yet.

Genre: I wrote sageuk??? Holy cow, never would’ve guessed.

What's your own favorite story of the year?
I have to give the nod to What the Nightingale Spies. I miss them the most. (And I haven't forgotten that I need to do the last set of extras.)

Did you take any writing risks this year?
Tweetfics, esp LONG tweetfics (tweetnovels?). What a new adventure, with all the visuals I ended up incorporating. The pics are as time consuming as the writing, tbh, but the mixed media aspect is fun and ppl seem to really enjoy it.

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
Last year I said: “I don't plan to write in more than 3, tops, for 2018, I think.”

I wrote in ForKadiOnly at the start of the year, signed up for No One Dies This Time (but that fest disappeared sadly ☹), and wrote for Our Love As One, so wow. I stuck to this ‘goal’ without even doing it intentionally, nice.

This year? Just to finish out my wips, I think. I have several half-finished oneshots now, and I just want to complete them. I also have two long fic ideas but honestly, long fics end up being such a commitment because I try to update within every 2 weeks, and I just don’t have that kind of free time right now :c

My most popular story of this year:
Lawyer Up (My ), without question (1600+ kudos on ao3). Although What the Nightingale Spies remains my highest upvoted fic on AFF. (It’s actually not too far from the votes required to get featured, I think? OTL)

The story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Gosh, I feel like everything was super appreciated?? Maybe, maybe, Press Rewind? (According to some adamant voters on Twitter, haha, love you guys.) It came out at a crazy busy time and Lawyer Up was out around then, too, so maybe not all of my readers saw that one? It still got lots of love, though. My heart is happy <3 <3

The story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
A Summer Slice of Love - I thought Kyungsoo might be more aloof toward Jongin but then once I was writing his POV, that is just not what he was telling me lmao. Thirsty b*tch XD

The hardest story to write:
Guarding His Heart! I wrote it as a tweetfic bc I thought to myself “I CAN’T commit to another longfic, this will keep it from being too long.” HAAAA. Instead, it’s my third chaptered fic, was near daily writing of ~600w a day + finding pics. It took on a life of its own, but then I struggled to end it. (I wrote two different endings but only shared one in the end.)

The biggest disappointment:
No one come for me/my wife, but I do feel bad that we haven’t finished I’m Into You yet. It’s been outlined to the end for months and I think it’s partly an issue that we don’t want our project to end <3

The biggest surprise:
How much my tweetfics took off. I have one that I still haven’t xposted to AFF/ao3 bc I don’t have the energy/time, but it’s super cute and there was so much nice feedback on Twitter from it, ahhhh <3

The most unintentionally telling story:
Press Rewind. I love established relationship/domestic aus.
