xiuying entered sm through sm global auditions. she was super happy once she found out she was going to train at sm. she is a hardworking trainee, and she wanted to debut as quickly as possible. due to her lack of korean profiency she couldn't debut that fast. at first she had a hard time balancing studying korean and training but she got the hang of it, and with the help of the members she was able to pull through. since she's a foreigner she would use a simple trick that almost everyone had used, if she's stuck in a sticky situation she would simply tilt her head and say i don't understand.

Hyunjin is a hardworking and modest person. he's the type of person that tries his best and once he achieved something he wouldn't brag about it. He is also modest when in comes to his dancing and looks. he is also playful, he likes to joke around with his closest friends. he is also clingy and affectionate.
At the same time, hyunjin is a bit tactless and dense, he sometimes can't read the atmosphere and would end up pissing xiuying off (he'll ask her what did he do wrong, and she would answer "take a guess mister") but at the end of the day they'll make up and be friends again. He is also an insecure and secretive person. he wouldn't let it show if he's feeling insecure or if he's sad.

XIUYING and hyunjin was in the same high school, but they're not in the same grade. the thing they have in common are their love for dance and the fact that they are both the only child. they met at the school infirmary. xiuying had a severe cramp but she got better and she was about to go back to class when she bumped into hyunjin, that was limping. turns out hyunjin had a sprain ankle, she was going to help him but he saiid he could take care of it because he was a dancer and he won't need her help, in a not so friendly voice. xiuying countered back that she too was a dancer and he should've said no politely and told him to respect his elders. in the end xiuying didn't help him and left him.

their second time xiuying saw him, her friends was telling her about the prince hwang hyunjin, she asked who and they pointed to her who hyunjin is, imagine her surprise when she saw it was the guy she met at the infirmary.

their encounter that made them close was when xiuying saw hyunjin alone and had this gloomy atmoshphere, she said "oh it's the prince, are you okay?" hearing that he snapped at her "stop calling me that", xiuying then apologized and asked him nicely what's wrong, hyunjin didn't immiediately open up to her, but she was determined to find out why (her selfless-self always wants to help people), in the end hyunjin told her he wanted people to see him not because of his looks but because of his skill. since then they became friends because xiuying didn't see hyunjin because of his looks but because he was a hard working person like herself.
