BIRTHNAME : Jung, "Eugene"  Eunho
NICKNAMES :

▸ Genie — An embarrassing nickname from when Eugene was a child. His mother made the nickname thinking it was cute and adorable for him, but he ended up being ridiculed for it because it sounds more like a "girl's name" than a male. Eugene hates being called it, but the only person who's allowed to call him by it is his mother.

▸ Monster Teacher — His young students call him this. It's because he looks scary and unapproachable, but they know that he is one of the sweetest beings alive. It's an affectionate nickname that Eugene has gotten used to.

▸ Muscle-head — Eugene does get judged as being all muscles and no brain. That may be the case, but Eugene excels where he can excel at. Only the ones who don't see what Eugene does for a living as "honorable" call him this.

DATE OF BIRTH : April 25, 1994 ° 26
BIRTHPLACE : Aurora, Colorado, USA
ETHNICITY : Korean-American
LANGUAGES SPOKEN :

▸ English — He is conversational in English, and that is because he grew up there until the age of 13. Most of his time in school was spent learning English. That being said, Eugene only learned English in school. His family spoke only Korean at home.

▸ Korean — He is fluent in Korean. His parents/grandma refused to speak English at all at home so he was learning both languages at the same time. His mother even tutored him in the language so Eugene would never forget the "culture"

FACE CLAIM : Jisoo ° Actor
BACK-UP FACE CLAIM : Hojung  ° UNB/Hotshot
HEIGHT & WEIGHT : 181 cm and 72 kg
APPEARANCE :

▸ Eugene likes to keep his hair short and easy to manage, especially because he works as a taekwondo instructor where your hair has to be short in the first place. Eugene does have impressive muscles, as the kids nowadays say, he's "swole". His shoulders are wide and his arms are thick. Eugene has tanned skin that he is proud of and raven black hair that has never been dyed. His appearance is of someone who hasn't missed the gym since he was born.

▸ For clothing, Eugene likes to keep it simple. In his taekwondo uniform, he wears light and comfortable clothes. That style is what Eugene typically wears now. A simple white t-shirt with some joggers and he's ready. Athleisure is his go to and it's hard to see him actually dress up for anything. Eugene can't be bothered in actually putting effort into his appearance. A habit of Eugene's is that he'll walk around shirtless because 1. he's gone hard on practicing, or 2. he just feels like it.

Personality

PERSONALITY TRAITS :
ISFG "The Nurturer"  ° Taurus ° Gryffindor ° Shizuku (My Little Monster) & Mori (OHSHC) based
Positive: Reserved, Quiet, Dependable, Observant, Kind
Negative:  Depriving, Indecisive, Sensitive, Cold, Judgemental

PERSONALITY :

Eugene has always been a reserved type of man. He does not talk about his past or reveal what he was doing that day unless explicitly asked what he did or how was his childhood. Eugene likes to keep his feelings to himself, so he doesn't have to rely on others, especially these people in the house. He is a quiet person who would prefer to just sit in silence rather than be surrounded by noise, which is why he is usually in his room when the rest are being rowdy in the common room.  Being someone who does not like to participate in the lives of the other housemates, Eugene is dependable for those who need it. If one of them ask him to water their plants while they are out? Eugene got them. Someone shoots him a text to pick up some milk they need for their cake? Eugene will go buy some. Eugene notices someone hasn't come out of their room in a day? He'll gently knock on the door and ask if they need anything. He won't leave anyone hanging.  As someone who is so dependable, that makes Eugene someone who is a good observer. He picks up on the other housemates' habits, schedules, and personalities easily. If he wants to avoid all of them, Eugene could more than likely do it. This also means that Eugene notices if something is wrong someone early on, or if they are having a hard time.  Lastly, Eugene is a kind guy. He is considerate of the other people living with him and does not want to cause conflict with any of them. Eugene won't go out of his way to make friends, but he won't treat them like they are dirt.

Eugene is the type who cares more for others than himself. He can be responsible when he needs to be, but Eugene does forget to take care of himself at times with leads to him being depriving. This happens more often when he's stressed out. If the housemates notice him on edge (lethargic/missing work/careless), they should ask him if he wants to go drinking or out to eat. Not only that, Eugene is indecisive. He has trouble making decisions, especially in life, which is how he ended up not being passionate for his job anymore. None of the housemates should come to him for decision making, he'll just lead everyone in the wrong direction. Eugene can be a cold guy, which is typically what people first notice about him. He is short and simple, not wanting to stress the details of conversations. The first time he meets his new roommates, it's really not a good impression. Eugene is a cold guy, but he is actually quite sensitive. He does care about how others perceive him, which is why Eugene is so kind and considerate to the others, so he can make up for making them feel like they are a bother. He has trouble expressing his emotions. Eugene is actually a judgemental person, which stems from his family. His parents were more traditional, so he holds some of their values. Now that he is living with new people, Eugene hopes that he can shed his judgments because he feels bad for judging them when he doesnt even know them.

BACKGROUND :

Eugene was born on April 25th of 1994. As an "accident" baby, his life was doomed from the start. His older brother was always the "better" child of the family, and the pressures that one day Eugene would also reach the potential that Emery (his brother) had paved before were high. Eugene was not a straight a student in the states, he was barely passing English and couldn't make past a C+ in Math. His parents were beginning to give up on the second child. Once Emery had gotten a job at Harvard and moved away, that's when the stress got to a all-time high.

Eugene has always been a quiet child since he was little, and most people assume that his personality had shaped due to always being in the shadow of his older brother. He never knew what he wanted to do in life. His parents were always throwing him pamphlets and brochures of different colleges of engineering and science. Eugene failed psychics three times and it was already over for him. His grandpa was one of the people in his life that didn't force him to be what he couldn't ever achieve. The family would visit his grandparents every summer since Eugene was five where his grandpa would take him to a taekwondo studio, which he owned. Since then, Eugene always had a connection between Taekwondo and his grandpa. With his encouragement, Eugene continued to practice Taekwondo.

Once his grandpa died when Eugene was 16, the whole family moved back to Seoul, South Korea to take care of his mother's mom. Eugene still barely passed all his classes and still had no idea what he wanted to do in life. His brother was willing to pull strings to get him into Harvard, but Eugene knew that he didn't want that. So, when Eugene was 18 and failed to pass any of the entrance exams that his parents signed him up for, Eugene made a decision to start working at the studio that his grandpa left in care of a close friend. His grandma was ecstatic. This choice angered his parents, especially his father. They thought to work as a Taekwondo instructor was shameful compared to the work that his brother was doing. So, they moved back to the states now that Eugene was going to follow his "dream" and left him to take care of his grandma.

Eugene started working with children and intro level courses at his job before working up as he got older and more experienced. The children love to have him as their instructor because he is gentle but also scary looking so the gap is cute. As time went on, he started to gain experience plus being able to teach older students along with adults. He has become a favorite instructor due to his work ethic and attitude. When Eugene was 24, his grandma ended up passing away as well, so he was left her house in South Korea. After about two years living there, Eugene wanted a fresh start and something a bit closer to his workplace, which is how he stumbled across Pied-à-terre. This new chapter has also made him start double-thinking if he really wants to continue taekwondo in his grandpa's name or find his own path in life...

Does he actually love taekwondo? or is it just something to help deal with the pain of losing his two supporters?

the important people

RELATIONSHIPS :

▸ mother — Kim Jihyun (56) / real estate agent / traditional, kind, quiet  / 8/10
Eugene and his mother have rekindled their relationship over the years, and it happened recently. They usually skype or talk on the phone. His mother worries for him and realizes that they were hard on him when he was young. Eugene, while he is happy they have reconciled, doesn't like talking to her that much because the conversation always gets depressing and reminiscent of missed opportunity. Jihyun calls once every two weeks to check up on him, and sends him letters with pictures of their house/pets/vacations/nephews/etc.

▸ father — Jung Eunki (58) / Business Owner / traditional, workaholic, petty / 2/10
Eunki is a man who only values status and money. While he did work hard to where he was today, his work mindset and values are what tore Eugene from the family. They do not talk at all, no words have been exchanged between the two since Eunki moved back to America with his wife. To him, he only has one son now. Eugene, while he doesn't try to let the disappointment from his father weigh him down, does sometimes still think about if he had followed a different path, maybe their relationship would be better.

▸ grandmother & grandfather — Kim Soonbok (76) & Kim Byungchul (70) / deceased / traditional, quiet, proud  / 10/10
(their ages are what they were at their deaths) Eugene's maternal grandmother & grandfather. Soonbok & Byungchul are deceased now, but she and her husband had a big impact on Eugene. They were one of his biggest motivations in keeping up with Taekwondo, and now that they are both gone, he's beginning to wonder if he is truly happy living his grandfather's dream.

▸ older brother — Jung "Emery" Eunsoo (35) / Harvard professor (physics) / confident, extrovert, smart / 7/10
Emery and Eugene have always had a good relationship, but their parents were the one who strained it. Still, when Emery and his wife have the time, they will come to South Korea and spend some time with Eugene. It's awkward, and they havent been since their grandma died, but Eugene still appreciates him. Emery calls and sends him mail at least once a month to keep up with how he is doing. He encourages Eugene to be more open with those around him.

▸ childhood friend — Ahn Jaesun (26) / Gym Teacher / dumb, loud, envious / 10/10
Jaesun is Eugene's closest friend and the one who understands him best. They met in high school, and usually, it's Jaesun who comes to pick up Eugene from work so they can go eat or drink or visits him at home. Eugene will sometimes go to his apartment to see if Jaesun somehow accidentally killed himself at night by setting his stove on fire. Eugene is the smart one and Jaesun is the clumsy idiot that bad luck follows. Jaesun can sense when Eugene's moods have changed and if he's super stressed, tries to cheer him up and relax.

▸ coworker — Lee Jungmin (43) / Taekwondo Instructor ° Owner / carefree, alcoholic, funny / 7/10
Jungmin is the new owner of the taekwondo studio. He has a soft spot for Eugene, which ends up with him inviting Eugene to go out drinking every other week. It's always a Sunday Night or Monday Night. Eugene can't say no to him because he doesn't want to be disrespectful. Jungmin is the one who usually calls Eugene if they need a shift covered, but he also will fight Eugene if he tries to come in and Jungmin knows that he hasn't had a break in the last five days. Jungmin sees Eugene as a sort of adopted son and Eugene appreciates the fatherly vibes he gets from the owner.
