영어 · english  mother tongue. hayeon has a slight denver accent when she speaks english; her vowels are very relaxed and there are specific pronounciations of words that people outside of denver find strange. if you're curious, here's a thread!

한국어 · korean  semi-fluent, fluent. while she was in america, her mother was by far much more fluent in korean than she was in english, so hayeon was raised speaking both languages. when she came to korea for training, she had a hard time transitioning from busan dialect to seoul dialect, as well as learning all these new words and phrases in both school and at the agency. currently, she is quite fluent and her pronounciation is very clear and concise. (think rv wendy!)

스페인어 · spanish  basic. hayeon took spanish as a language requirement in middle school, and there's a big chance that she doesn't remember much of it. spanish was one of her worse subjects, so she had no problem forgetting all the intricacies of the language. she put spanish on her audition app for bighit and when they admitted her, she attempted to relearn it in case she needed it. her spanish is still Really bad, so she's hoping no one brings it up anytime soon.

in terms of the general population, hayeon is below average. below average in height, below average in weight, and, according to her own opinion, below average in looks. hayeon has never loved her face and always longed to be one of those universally beautiful, 178cm actresses with drama-filled dating lives she'd see as she flipped through teen vogue or seventeen. she always thought her face looked strange, but, as her best friend always said, it was because she stared at it in the mirror too long. many times over, she found herself pinching her cheeks and longing for beauty products her mother would never buy for her, but with time, she would learn to love her dimples and her monolids, her eyebrow shape, and her lip shape.

one thing she prided herself on (which, in hindsight, she probably shouldn't have) was her inability to keep her weight up. she was always skinny, and her body type wasn't one to build much fat or muscle, so she thought being underweight was a gift. her underweightness led her to a life of low stamina and the occasional fainting spell, which she never complained about because beauty hurts, and everyone needs to sacrifice something to be pretty. before comeback stages, she finds herself lusting after junk food, gives herself a slap on the wrist, then continues to starve herself. her fans and even the members note her sunken cheeks and lack of energy at times, but she reassures them, promising to eat something. that something is usually cup ramen or an egg salad sandwich from the convenience store.

hayeon's hair has always been a dark brown, her locks always worn down in a messy tangle of hair because she thought it looked fine without brushing it. she's never dared to think about what it would like like in a different color, such as blue or blonde, and she probably never will (unless the company decides it's best she dyes it pink or whatever). she ties it into a bun when she's hanging around the studio, writing music because it's best kept out of her face when she's thinking.

at a measured and confirmed 155cm, hayeon thinks she can improve her height by drinking milk despite being almost 22 years of age. weighing in at 44kg, hayeon knows her bmi is horribly below average, but there really is no other way to raise her weight without gorging herself and throwing up later.

hayeon doesn't have a very remarkable sense of fashion, often resorting to a jean jacket over a t-shirt and jeans when taking a quick trip somewhere, but she's had a taste of what expensive brands feel like on her skin. she's shameless in saying she does like designer brands, but she doesn't have the courage nor the money to buy anything she likes.

she tends to wear a lot of jackets because she has an attachment to things with long sleeves, coming from a position where she was always afraid to show her arms (or any part of her body, really). she also just owns a lot of jackets, her favorites being her flower-patterned acid washed jean jacket, her one (1) rosy pink button-down overcoat, and her dark green bomber jacket with aviator patches on the front and back. the reason why is because they can all be paired with a t-shirt and jeans and they'll all have different vibes when she wears them!

she really only wears converse and will maybe pull out her doc martens when she's in the mood, but other than that, she wishes she could walk around in flip flops all day. the reason why she can not is because she thinks the only open toed shoes korean own are birkenstocks and she thinks those are insanely uncomfortable.

during practice or while she works around the studio, she wears her adidas tracksuit (or any variation of this) and ties her hair up so it's not flying everywhere. she's never really invested in workout clothes, so she just buys whatever the other members seem to like wearing. a favorite outfit of hers is a gray oversized hoodie over black track shorts.

hayeon decided herself that it's best she leave putting on full face makeup to the professionals because the last time she tried it on herself, the result was disastrous. she wears her face mask proudly while she's barefaced, and chooses only to put on lip tint and mascara before she leaves the dorm. on the other side of things, she has a very extensive nighttime skincare routine in which she double-cleanses, exfoliates, uses toner and serum, and moisturizes. she uses a peel-off face mask once a week to remove blackheads and brighten her skin. if ever asked, she doesn't go into detail about her skincare, she just tells them to wash their face extra well and put on a sheet mask.

JANUARY 1997 jung hayeon is born into a family of three in busan— two sisters and a mother, father having already been out of the picture a few months back. hayeon doesn't cry at first and gives her mother a scare, but she comes around after a couple of minutes.

MID-MARCH 2000 hayeon's family moves to denver to be closer to her mother's siblings and cousins, as well as to get away from the place her unknown father used to live. hayeon's mother also decides to sign her up for classes at a nearby arts studio where she learned ballet and later expanded out to different types of dance.

LATE MARCH 2000-2009 hayeon, now going by harley, is raised in a bilingual household and becomes something of a translator for her mother. she finishes sixth grade with many academic awards and a few good attitude awards. she is also garden square elementary school's reigning talent show winner since fourth grade.

AUG 2009-2011 hayeon's eldest sister introduces her to wonder girls and girls' generation and she becomes casually interested until she starts listening to boa. from then on, she's hooked ! 2010 is the year her mother starts taking her family back to busan to visit hayeon's grandparents and the other relatives living there. hayeon finds herself writing poetry often & continues to showcase her singing talents in her middle school showchoir.

DEC 2011 for her winter break, her mother takes her to korea and their family decides to take a vacation around seoul. hayeon makes her cousins take her to the big three's buildings and they make it a day to take pictures in front of each one. hayeon is scouted outside jyp and she really isn't sure why !! but over that break she persuades her mother to let her audition.

FEB 2012 hayeon says her goodbyes to her friends and family as she enters jyp entertainment as a trainee. for the time being, she moves to seoul with her aunt and is schooled there.

MAY 2014 in a trainee exchange with jyp's partner company, hayeon moves to bighit. after witnessing 6mix's fall, she decides moving to a smaller company might be best for her and relieves her of the pressure she felt in such a highly competitive setting.

2014-2015 hayeon finds interest in writing lyrics on her own time, but when asked if she was interested in writing for her own group she tenses up and says yes on impulse but immediately experiences regret because she knows she'll be much busier than she anticipated when she first entered. she saw how bighit handled the glam situation and feared for her spot as a trainee.

2015-2018 she counts her blessings as bighit decides to keep her but doesn't debut her. she watches the success of her friends and waits. sometimes she doubts she'll ever debut; fear of another bad turnout with a girl group was the excuse other male trainees made when she brought up her situation. she's become tired of waiting.

PRESENT lunation is announced, hayeon exhales. finally.

 hayeon knows how to play the piano and the guitar! her mom always expressed her want for her daughter to know how to play an instrument, so hayeon followed through ♡

 soon after she was introduced to snsd, she got to know taeyeon's voice and fell head over heels in love. one might say that taeyeon is who she aspires to be.

 tends to repeat words after she hears or reads them. will see a sign that says "busan station" and she'll read it out loud. she'll hear someone say "fresh strawberries" at the end of their sentence and she'll repeat that. most of the time the members are like yes. thanks hayeon. sometimes when something needs to be read out loud they make her do it to make fun of her fdhsnf

 as mentioned before, hayeon brings drinks and snacks to staff members while she's got writer's block ! the first time she asked, she got puzzled looks from everyone but after the following few occasions they all got used to it

"he's really cool and he knows it. i'm not saying that he's cool as my own opinion, i'm saying it objectively, like it's a known fact that jihoon is a cool person. did you know he produces all his group's albums and concert tracks? before his group's comebacks i get worried about him and his mental health. after it's all over and they get to rest, he's pretty much fine, though. in his free time he just lazes around his dorm and orders food. it's kind of hard to describe him to someone who doesn't know him, but in a word, i think i'd call him a genius."

 when hayeon recieved word that she was going to be on an episode of a radio show that featured idol composers, she felt a certain emotion. one might call it fear, another might call it anxiety, but what hayeon was experiencing was much closer to dread. she had no idea what she would be talking about, as her manager hadn't told her what kinds of questions she'd be asked; her songwriting process was far from methodical, so she thought she would sound like an idiot while the others talked about their careful process of choosing lyrics and finding the right beat to a song. this feeling was amplified after she'd realized she was going to be pretty much the only female writer aside from a senior of hers by seven years.

by the time the radio show recording actually came around, hayeon felt she was ready enough to talk about herself and began psyching herself up in the waiting room of the studio. the recording was over as soon as it started, but hayeon felt an overwhelming sense of appreciation for everyone she'd met in the room. after the show, there was a lot of exchanging of numbers in the waiting room. hayeon, fueled by high levels of adrenaline and admiration, suggested they all have a group chat despite the age differences and immense introvertedness of the whole group itself. no one could say no to her face, so the group chat was made, and it included seventeen's woozi. one day, weeks after the (now occasionally active) group chat was made, hayeon recieved a very strange message from him individually:

hayeon already had the gist of his personality from when they first met in person and was shocked, to say the least. she really had no idea what to say to him after that, so, being the jokester she is, she texted back, thanks for letting me know lol. this was obviously not the best way to respond to his text, but hayeon was already highly inexperienced in relationships and that was the first response she'd thought of. it. a few hours later, hayeon recieved a text from him again: i'm so sorry, i wasn't the one who sent that, that was one of my group members, i'm so sorry..... hayeon was a bit angry at herself for responding the way she did, so this did little to lift the embarrassment off her shoulders. after accepting his apology, the two didn't speak until months later.

jihoon, known for his skill and professionalism, is invited to bighit to write and produce one of lunation's next title tracks (or b-sides). bang pd, without knowing their brief and shortlived history, decides it would be a good idea that he worked with hayeon, since she was the one who modeled lunation's signature sound. hayeon bared her teeth and agreed, but once the two were in the studio together, the mood was ice cold. she felt awkward talking to him because of the text and also because he made no effort to clear the air of any strange tension that was there. she would clear and cringe every time she tried to bring up an idea because his responses were short and simple, maybe asking her to try out a tune he wrote once in a while. after a while, hayeon started to get annoyed at the weird vibe, so she decided that she wanted them to talk about what that text was all about.

the two of them explained themselves— jihoon said his hyung thought it would be funny if he confessed his love to someone from the group chat and because hayeon was both his junior and because their wasn't all that big, she was his best bet. he apologized again and she accepted, hayeon made sure that he had no reason to doubt that everything was fine between them so there shouldn't be anymore awkward tension. of course, when this all blew over, there was some amount of awkwardness because their personalities were so different and their own personal problems were getting in the way of things (hayeon preferring to work alone so no one would see her inordinate songwriting process and jihoon just. not having experience with talking to girls lmao). over the course of a few days, the awkwardness melted away as they got closer and they had already recorded a demo for a couple of songs. jihoon would be in his grave before admitting that he did feel his heart flutter every time she laughed at a joke of his or whenever they'd make eye contact for more than a few seconds.

even after the recording and editing was over, he'd think about her and kick himself for falling for her sparkling magnetism and mellifluous voice, unsure of why he fell for the first girl he'd ever worked with. he remembered his responsibilities to his group and his job and almost felt guilty of the feelings he harbored for her. meanwhile, the girl who'd never been in love before felt her fingertips automatically pick a seventeen song while she worked on her own music with the subconcious thought that she'd hear his voice again. the two inexperienced hearts were at a standstill at this point, wondering whether or not it'd be appropriate to say something or keep their distance whenever they saw each other.

 they really only text each other because they're both pretty busy with their own work, but once in a while they meet up for coffee to chat and check up on each other. most of their texting is them learning new things about each other while also talking about nothing for hours on end. they get distracted by each other and remember what they were doing later but it always comes back to picking up the phone and texting them back.

 they seem to understand each other well and if they were to date, it'd be on the down-low. they'd probably go places where there's a low risk of getting caught and have a picnic or something cute like take a nap together or something dskdskjs,, , also. hayeon would definitely load up a whole memory card with pictures of jihoon.
