CHANCE
ATWOOD

you don't get it, lady luck's a total .
NAME: chance atwood
ALIAS: chance
` not really caring of his alias, he just went by with his name. with a name like his, it's easy to pass it off as his hero name. plus, 'chance' was his quirk anyways.

NICKNAMES:
` lucky bastard, mr. lady luck, jackpot,  etc. //
anything related to luck had already been used on him. heck, his own name's meaning was related to luck. by now he's just accepted all and any of such nicknames, but he won't hesitate on retorting sarcastically of how original they were.
` , , bastard, etc. //
now, with a nickname like that, it's pretty easy to guess the sort of peresonality he had. not a favorite among others, he just took all the name calling with a smirk ( hiding the flashes of hurt, burying emotions once again ).
` old man, gramps, etc. //
really, he was just a year older than the rest and he's made fun of being old ( when asked why, he just said there were troubles with moving instead of the real reason which was taking care of his friends and sister ).
` green //
green, green, and more green. he's always got to have something green on him. admittedly it makes his eyes pop out more but still.

DOB ( AGE ): 05/07 ( 17 )
BIRTHPLACE: england
HOMETOWN: nottinghamshire, england

LANGUAGES:
` english, native //
born in england and having been initially raised there, english would always be his mother tongue. he'd rather his native language over japanese, but living in japan  now―makes that a harder task. luckily he still had his family and friends to talk with. he also still maintained his distinct english accent throughout the years ( it's one of his charming points is what he liked to think as this accent of his was a bit of a mix of english regions as well―namely cockney and nottingham ).
` japanese, fluent //
although he could speak it fluently by now, he still had hints of an english accent to it. when he actually talk amiably, he found himself attracting others with his charming accent. unfortunately, most times it ends up being insults and/or cocky remarks. he also didn't speak too much complex vocabulary, instead keeping it simple. and if he starts cussing genuinely, he'd revert back to english ( he may know japanese insults, but in the end he'll always get back to english ).
` japanese sign language, advanced //
after his sister's loss of voice, they both opted to learn the language so they could converse together easily. due to this, he's got a good grasp on the japanese sign language ( as that was what's been taught to them ).
FACECLAIM: robin hood (  fate series )
BACK-UP: mark twain ( bungou stray dogs )
HEIGHT: 175cm
WEIGHT: 65kg

STYLE:
first of all, green is a core factor of his outfits. second of all, he's actually one to keep his clothing a bit more simple and casual. however, he does dress up a  bit in the sense that he present himself to not be that much of a slacker. he's also admittedly fond of cardigans in general, anything with hoods especially. he also rather have his sleeves reaching his elbows or longer, but if it's summer he would don short sleeves with a large neck and arm holes. a stark contrast to his usual clothing, but he's always been the sort to be a bit sensitive to temperature ( and the summer in japan can be insane ).

COSTUME:
i. ii. iii.
despite his behaviour most times, his costume was far less extravagant. a look at it showcased a more practical purpose than anything. moreover, he's requested his cape to have some sort of camouflage features. when pointed out of how that seemed so cowardly and unheroic to rattle him, he'd just smirk and drawl in response "and what? be a complete idiot to use some fancy outfit when i know where my strength lies? news flash, i'm playing smart, but looks like you're too much of an idiot to nnot have understood that at one look. how sad."

his right hand would also be equipped with a crossbow. he's also got a specially designed quiver that's divided into four compartments, each holding different kinds of arrows: one are with taser effects, another is laced to eventually knock the target out―essentially drugging them, arrows that would leave trackers on the target, and actual arrows that were more or less used as a  last resort. on the right side of his belt he had a pouch filled with the basic medical supplies needed if he was to encounter injured civilians.

SURFACE.
a normal bystander would simply call this teen a douche. at first glance, he may be someone that catches the eye and seem charming, but the moment he opened his mouth―well, to simply put, it was a turn off. generally confident of his own skills, especially his luck, the boy was aware of the fact that he simply had a lot of things going on for him. people wondered if he really fitted the job of being a hero, with how he always put himself above others and push everyone down.

but briefly, there were moments wherein you could see his loyalty for those he cared for. then there were the times you could not deny that his deeds can be heroic. perhaps at times the heroism was disguised by his less than stellar personality, but it's no doubt that he prioritized others before him when he worked as a hero.

still, he was the proud man that people could not help but give dirty looks at. he was the man who seemed to be blessed with his not so eye-catching quirk.

however, that's just the surface. that was the mere tip of the iceberg. underneath the veil lied more complexities, it's only whether one could spot it or not.
UNRAVEL.

two-faced people tend to show off a brighter personality and hid something darker inside. he, in a sense, did the same. however, with his mask he wished to push others away. he didn't want others to get too close, for he believed he would do nothing but make their lives so much more worse.

after all, it's happened to his family and friends before, they who were damned whilst he got out of it scot free. so caring and loving of others, he didn't dare put them in danger. and if he was a danger to others ( the luck which he held, that which sacrificed others for him ) he shall make sure they would never come close. it's perhaps excessive, this cautiounary nature, but it did wonders as well before. with how willing he was to be wary in battle and outside of it, not letting his guard down for a second as he knew bad things can always happen out of nowhere ( the fire in his home, the city's buildings going down as heroes and villains fight ).

he hated it, all that he seemed to be bless with and was constantly reminded of by others―he thought of it as nothing but a curse. and no one could understand it, such a lonely thought truly wrenched his heart.

and what a soft heart he had. one he had to hide under a steely facade. but every dirty look, insult, slander―it drowns him in grief as he was hated. but he lets himself be hated, hurts himself in what he believed  was to be the only good he could do for others. because if not, what else could he do for others?

he who was cocky, truly was not at all. instead, he had a generally low opinion on himself and blamed himself for most things. for the soft and caring heart of his could not blame others so he did so to himself. it was simply easier that way.

but in his very core, deep down in this darkness, a childish hope remained―

i want to be a hero.

and how idiotic was that? for he who had felt like he was the fault of the deaths and pains of others. he who masked himself and hurt others to hurt them less than if they were to be someone he cared for. he who ran away from the pain and pulled himself away from others in hopes that he could avoid that pain and guilt.

such a man could not be a hero.

and yet here he was, still yearning. and here he was, carrying his friends and sister's naive dreams as he applied for u.a.

here he was, in this school―thinking that perhaps he really could be a hero.

how foolish. but he's already been so horrible, it wouldn't hurt to be a little bit worse, wouldn't it?

GENESIS
in the humble county of nottinghamshire, there was a family of three. the father was a man known for his easy-going personality and luck ( for it was his quirk ), the mother a gentle soul that was raised by the japanese as she had been adopted and had the simple ability to change her hair color, and finally him. he was the son, the one that was pretty much like any other boy really.

nothing special, no one grand, just another child among the masses. of course, that didn't matter to him at the time. instead, he enjoys life. he made friends, had fun with them, and rave about heroes alongside them. they played pretend, and enjoyed their time together. however, as time passed by, and the others started to manage to show off their quirks whilst he still hadn't—well, they started to treat im worse. no longer did they let him play hero, and would often say that he should just be the civilian they must protect.

such words and actions left a bitter taste to his mouth in all honesty. were these even people he could call his real friends ( a thought which shouldn't have already been in the minid of a young boy )? it was because of such prejudice that he found himself left alone more.

it was also because of this that he would come across a little girl who he'd call his little sister.

they met one afternoon, him having coming across her due to her cries. she was hunched over a broken toy, and by chance he had the same exact toy in his hand. not wanting the little girl to cry, he had come up to her and handed her his toy, a bright grin in place as he ried to cheer her up. the little girl had not expected such kindness, never would have thought the boy would so happily give away his toy.

( if you ask her now, who was the number one hero of the world—she'd always tell you of that boy she met who gave her his toy when he saw her crying over her own broken one. )

KARMA
his parents soon found out of the many times he met the quirkless, orphan girl. they also realized that he had many instances of showing great lucl during his misadventures with the girl. it was quite surprising, from their masterful escape from bullies to have getting free food and shelter from a nice old couple during a heavy rain. his father, knowing his own quirk, thought that most likely the boy had taken after his quirk. that news alone was enough to make him jump in joy, however the fact his parents actually decided to adopt the little girl he grew so fond of made it all the better. after all, if he was already going to be this clingy to her without being siblings―well, they might as well make it easier for the children.

now successsfully being family by official standards―they found themselves closer than ever before. going to school together, relying on each other, making friends together. now, they enjoy their time together even more. and the thing he loved most was when she told him he was her hero. it's what sparked the desire, the need to help out others, a chivalry that would follow him for all eternity. this want to be a hero had set him to a path that he could not escape no matter what.

but otherwise, life seemed good. he had a sister now, his family was loving and wonderful, he had friends, and all in all nothing was going bad.

until the day he and his father were alone in their house. an unfortunate accident is what they called it, as an inferno spurned bring the house down with it's raging flames. it was a cruel gamed that the fates played, rolling their dices to see who's the luckier of the two.

and it seemed almost as if victory was in their hands. as if both of them could survive and beat fate. however, they were just toyed in the end. for during hteir final spurt, the ceiling broke down as inferno overtook his father's body and all the little boy could do was run and drown out the dying man's screams by focusing on the raging fire.

by the time rescue and more people came to deal or witness the fire, he was the only survivor that came out unscathed. a sobbing boy that was soon taken in by his mother's and sister's arms, tears running down their cheeks.

MOVE
"look, it's him. it's the lucky child.
"is it really? the one that survived the fire unscathed?"
"yeah! if only his father was just as forunate."

the words whispered by others were like poison to him, an unbearable pain that twisted his insides in grotesque fashion. he was fortunate? if he was fortunate, his father would have been here too. and it's almost as if the world's telling him that it was because of his quirk that he's alive instead of his own father.

it didn't take long after the funeral for them to move to japan either, his mother thinking that it would be better to be close to her family so it'll be easier to take care of them. mechanically, he foud himself learning japanese in order to be able to focus on something that did not involve with the incident. his sister had been his anchor through these tough times. always reassuring him, innocent and bright as she reassures him with her hugs and gentle words. mother was far too busy with clming down the sudden choas, and he should be the one reassuring his younger sister instead but―

"don't think like that, i know you're good and you never did anything to kill him. after all―you're a hero! and i know you're too good for that."

he takes a deep breath, trying not to feel the jab of her words but instead focused on the beacon of light it provided. hero? him? after all that's been done?impossible. and he smiled back at her, wobbly but trying instead of just staying in the dumps "yeah, you're right."

he supposed that's when the lies began.

but when they moved to japan, nerves ready to combust as he stepped onto the new land world, he realized that maybe...this was where he could make up for former mistakes. this time, he won't  fail anyone and they'd live.

so he picks himself up and tried to be the older brother he had been failing to be for some time. taking the lead once again as they settled in japan. tried his best to help his mother's parents restaurant when he could. made sure that no one hurts his little sister as usual. made new friends who made it easier for him to face a new day.

and watching things progress again, he hopes that this time these bright days will last.

he's wrong, and the only thing he could really blame was himself.

CHAOS
"hey, hey, in the future let's all be heroes together!"
"yeah! and we'll get into u.a! and hey emily, you'd be the first quirkless hero to exist!"
"you really think so? actually, i want to be big brother's sidekick!"
"haha, yeah chance, you'd be a great hero! let's all be a squad and we can rely on you to make sure we're all grounded~."

children's dreams, words of hope, a simple idea of the future. they all indulged in fantasies, and he did so with his friends. promises upon promises, linked pinkies, a convoluted handshake, they're just flimsy contracts meant to be broken. he wants to genuinely say he believed in it, and he's truly hopeful of it. but a part of him, tarnished by flames and his father's screams, couldn't help but think that none of this will last long.

he hopes, but he does not believe. he says with confidence, but his genuine conviction lacks. he never crossed his fingers behind his back, but sometimes it feels like fate is forcing the fingers of the others to do so.

his father promised to bring their family to i-island one day. he saw that the man saved up money for it. he saw the plans already being readied. he saw it all burning down to the ground.

and even then, with a bit of him knowing and wary―when involved in the actual chaos he can't do anything.

that was him during the day he and his friends were hanging out in the city. it seemed alright, a nice day that was supposed to end on a good note as well. but unfortunately, his luck just wasn't that strong to ever make everything go his way.

that's why, when the hero known as supernova and the villain black hole had made the city their battle zone, there was nothing but panic in his veins as he realized that if they don't escape they'd die. but his friends, young and naive, were far too amazed. madness descends as the public divides into stayong around and escaping the destruction. he and his sister tried to drag his friends away, but it was too late.

a strike by supernova hits a building, the resulting rubble launched down on them and more civilians. everyone scrambles away but―

"hey hey, in the future let's all be heroes together!"

lies.

screams, more debris, stray attacks, it was pandemonium.

more heroes, more police, more people, it never ends.

and he's reminded of an inferno from long ago, but seeing those he forged bonds with he knew he had to make the best out of it. even when a few's already gone they had to try―

he orders them like soldiers, tried his best to get away from the mayhem. at times, when he saw strays, he tries to bring them with him. when there were the injured, they try their best to save them as well. more and more of  the worst comes at them, and he tries his best.

another life lost, another life saved.

adrenaline is pushing them all, until they finally reached the safest point they could come to. he finds more and more that were capable to please, please, come back to certain locations with him where people are hurt.

but there's not enough. and even if he begs for supernova and black hole to stop to the point of muting himself for life, he knew it was impossible.

and through it all, he carried his sister in his arms. his wonderful sister who made his life better now on the brink of death.

and now, unable to do more―he's whisked away to the healers. adamantly pushing his sister to be the first that was treated and the rest he had brought with him.

"you did well, truly you're a hero."

what a load of bull.

if he was a hero―no one would have been hurt.

in the end, he was a failure.

05
HERO
they called him a hero. they asked him if he wanted to be talked about on the news or at least mention his name. many heroes would take him in knowing what he's done.

he told all of them no. and if they wanted to talk about it, just call him citizen f or whatever. he didn't want this to be something he's known for. not when to him―this was all an utter failure.

after all, he's lost friends. there was a handful of them hanging out yes, but two were gone, another is traumatized and the rest were disabled. and his sister―

ohgodhissister―.

arm and voice again, from an attack that could have hit him as well but never did because―

"oh, how lucky he was to come out of it unscathed."

he didn't deserve that. and he thinks if anyone should have been in his state, it shoud have been his sister or one of his other friends. and that the death should have been that of black hole's or even supernova.

because he remembers, could recall to the slightest detail, of how the hero just left them all to suffer to merely beat the villain. and the fact that same abstard was still regaled as a hero despite the events―being called a hero the same time as that man just made it all the more bitter.

his mother had panicked at the fact she had not enough money for her children's treatment, but thanfully froppy―the hero that had focused on saving civilians and was the so-called safe point he found in the chaos―had decided to pitch in for payment of his good deeds. although he doesn't think it's the right reason for such a blessing, he doesn't deny it because it could help his sister.

"don't worry, ribbit. things will go well."

at least, it seemed his luck worked with him for once as the treatment and froppy's assistance led to his sister surviving. and when his sister and friends gotten better, he stuck by to help them. despite already graduating and should be actaully applying for high school, he opted to spend time with them.

after all, that's the least he could do for them.

DREAM
it's almost a year later when his sister and friends and family had enough of him playing the guilty party. but it's his sister who truly pushed him to go forwards. and albeit, not a method she liked, she knew it was the only thing she could do at the moment. or else, he wouldn't mvoe on.

"for us, please pursue the dream of being a hero. you're the only one―the only one who could carry all our dreams and be the heroes we hope to be."

playing with his guilt, bringing up their collective dreams, weaving desires and the former together―it was easy to push him to the right direction. she knew all to well how her brother works, and she despised to be manipulative but...he had to move on.

and he? oh, he knew his sister to know that she was manipulating him. but that knowledge was what finalized his decision. to be so pathetic that he made his sister did something she did not like―what kind of a  horrible brother was he?

but he promised to still visit during weekends. to come by whenever he could. and without much hope or the ability to believe, he applies for u.a. and truly, he expected to fail―however he managed to pass the entrance exams by what he'd like to call pure luck.

sigh, how troublesome.

but inwardly, a part of him, right at his core and drowned out by broken pieces, is glowing in joy. for he, no matter how bitter or suffered from such people's hands, would alway want to be a hero.

QUIRK: Luck ( Emitter )
`a seemingly useless quirk, this granted the user amazing luck. even for someone with this quirk, he was one to be one of the luckier ones out there. to be able to get a free drink from the vending machine too frequently, to have always managed to reach shelter before it rains, to even be able to survive a horrible situation relatively scott free. that was how his quirk worked.

STRENGTHS:
` lucky shots are a common thing with him, being able to hit the enemy even at unfavorable circumstances. if there's a way, then he's able to make it happen. on the other hand, lucky moments wherein the attack misses him or he evaded it somehow were also pretty common. frankly, it's annoying.
` he tends to be in the right place at the right time, able to discover important facts or avoid himself from being known. he'll do well in an infiltration mission, only because doing it tend to be a breeze as everything seemed to go his way.

WEAKNESSES:
` let it be known that his luck only concerned him. hostage situations were one he's wary of mainly because it's possible for him to survive but for the hostages to all suffer in turn. his luck would not save another if it meant it cost his survival. a friend being conveniently in front of him to take a deadly blow, a hostage positioned by his back that got shot where he could have suffered a fatal injury, and more. so, in the end it's a quirk meant to make sure he was alright, so everything else must be done by his own efforts.
` oh, this most definitely wasn't a flashy quirk. it's not the kind where he could use it offensively or the sort, instead it was more of a support that made him harder to hit but could hit you a lot more and in spots that hurts. his actualy skills in combat and what not all had to be trained, and if he's better at a skill than he sould be―well, he got beginner's luck on steroids.

FIGHTING STYLE:
` in all honesty, he would rather to be in the back as an archer who got lucky shots in. but heroes tend to be flashy and move in close, so for those moments he relied on hand-to-hand combat. he still could improve a lot in fighting, but he did have luck on his side that painted him a better image of his prowess. however, as he develops his fighting style, he would make it into a mix of martial arts and the knowledge of acupressure points. yes, it may sound pretentious, but it also is the only kind of style that could be used by someone like him. to hit the necessary points to cause an impact on his enemy by luck―truly, only someone with his quirk could pull it off. this also shows that most of his fighing style would revolve his hands, and even his own weaponry favored the usage of his hands, this shows that in combat he would not really use his legs much unlesss necessary.

WEAPONRY:
i.
` a crossbow was his choice of weapon. it was easier to manage then a regular bow and arrow in his opinion, and he liked to use specialized arrows. this usually made him more of an excellent support from the back and in the distance, but if he's got to fight close ranged then...
` knives, ones that were laced with poison and one being blunted to cause less damage. although, not an expert or as confident with this unlike his bows.

LIKES:
` sheperd's pie ( his favorite dish )
forests ( he missed the fresh air of nottinghamshire, the greens surrounding him, how it still felt like he was in a fantasy tale of sorts )
` rock music  ( the beatles and green day were his favorites )
` birds ( he and his sister used to fee the birds they found back in england―they still do it here, but not as frequently )
` scented candles ( if he had less restraints, he would be collecting it now. however he enjoyed to go around a shop full of it for fun and wanted to make ones of his own )

DISLIKES:
` his luck ( no matter what anyone said to him, it will always be a be a quirk that brings forth misfortune to others in his opinion )
` berries ( something about it just never meshed well with him )
` luck based games ( what's the point of playing when he'd always win anyways? )
` the city ( the hustle and bustle and environment just felt so inorganic to him )
` isolation ( even if he tried to push others away, he's always yearning for people to stay as he could not stand being alone )

COOKING
` he's actually a talented cook. he tends to go by things randomly and rely on his luck, but as it was his quirk, it was no surprise that he ended with wonderful meals in the end. he's the sort that can poach eggs in one go or use a pressure cooker to perfection.

` taking walks in the park was very rekaxing and a good way to distress in his opinion.

` archery was something he liked to dabble on. his sister used to be amazing at it, but due to losing an arm, she decided to give up on the sport. instead, he took it up in her stead.

` ever since he met yumeko and zolten, somehow sewing and knitting had been added to his list of hobbies. the three had a regular monthly meeting wherein they just started to sew or knit whatever. zolten and he once knitted a doll for yumeko together and her happy cries and hugs were worth it.

` after school, he usually meets up with his sister so they could meet up with a few friends still stuck in the hospital and other friends made in there.

` the young kids in the hospital loves him a lot, mainly because he has a way with them and was too soft-hearted to leave them be.

` a lot of people thought he and his sister were a couple since they didn't look alike.

` in middle school, he was the popular guy that many were charmed by due to his kind heart.

` he also had dated a few people before, they're all still friends to this day as he was lucky enough to always end up with understandable people.

` once had a stalker. why once? let's just say his sister was the more terrifying one out of the two.

` used to love all the heroes, but was rather iffy about them now. he did admire them still, but he respected heroes that did things like recovery girl or thirteen, those who focused on the rescue aspects and saving people than dealing with the big bad.

` effective ways to make him soft in an instant: his sister, children, his friends prior to the incident, and birds.

` his luck could someimes even extend to connections. after all, not everyone became friends with a pro hero and famous hero costume designer through rather strange events.

simple and organized, he took care of his room well. much akin to the image above, with wooden walls, floors and ceilings―as well as some windows to make it feel less stuffy. instead of framed pictures on the walls, he would have a few posters of rock bands he frequently listened to. there was also a tray on the left bedside table where scented candles would be set on from time to time. in his closet, he would also place his own bow and arrows meant for practice. otherwise, a pretty utilitarian room that does what needs to be done.

FAMILY.

avery atwood ( father, deceased ); kaede atwood ( mother, alive ); emily atwood ( adopted sister, alive, faceclaim: gudako/female master from fate grand order )

it began with three―his father, his mother, and then him. then it grew as his sister, emily, was adopted to the family. and currently, it has lessened as his father passed on. to chance, his family was important―greatly so. he cherished them greatly, but it's obvious that he was softer for his little sister emily. looking at his mother had made him feel guilty as he still felt he was the reason his father died.

however, bothe his sister and mother knew of his issues and had been trying to pull him out of it when they could. his sister had been doing good until she became disabled, and the two realized that someone else―one who was not the subject of his soul crushing guilt―could truly heal him. that didn't stop them from trying to help him, though.

his little sister was a bright one. always active and determined and proving to be a strong person despite it all. she may be mute, she may not have an arm, but she remained optimistic and had faith. strong-willed, she tries to live life to the fullest and push her brother to that direction as well. she had always been the kind to be sweet to her brother who saved her when she was young and gave her this wonderful family. her one goal in life is to maintain his happiness, and she'll go through hell and high water to mend the broken pieces for even the tiniest bit. she and him were the sort that held no secrets to each other, always open and understanding.

his friends from the time he got into japan and before the incident. they were all dreamers aiming to be heroes, but due to the incident, most of the squad found themselves crushed due to their looses or not wanting to pursue their childish dreams. a rowdy bunch hat was subdued, but have been trying to brighten up and move on since then. they frequently visited the hospital where a few others were still stuck in there, trying to help each other out and even other patients in the hospital they could relate to. they were regularly alled heroes by the people in the hospital, and it was truthfully heartwarming.

some of them had even been inspired by this in order to pursue other jobs that could just be as heroic as, well, being a hero. two wanted to be doctors, another wanted to be a daycare owner, and so on and so forth.

his favorite hero, mainly because she saved his sister.

the hero who was one he greatly respected. she had helped his family by paying for his sister's surgery as a thanks from her to him due to his deeds during the incident. she had checked up on him and his sister, as well as other survivors, even after the incident was passed over due to other news. due to that, they managed to form a bond and grew closer during these times.

she had once even offered to recommend him to u.a., which he objected to since she already did so much for him―it wasn't necessary. overall, he felt that he owe the woman greatly and had been trying to make it up to her now by trying to be a great hero.

amaioni yumeko ( ( first name, last name ) little sister not by blood and not adopted, fc: elizabeth bathory from fate grand order ); zolten lengyel ( uncle that adopted him because he's yumeko's not official brother, fc: vlad iii berserker from fate grand order )

out of all the other patients in the hospital, the one he got closest to was yumeko. she was constantly following him around and he lets himself to do her bidding. she was a horrible singer dreaming to be a pop star, but he, his family, and the squad all supported her greatly. this had actually made her cry from tears of joy and since he was the one who was first to say and show support, she had latched onto him like no tomorrow.

this also led him to come across a famous fashion and hero outfit designer, her uncle zolten. the man finding out about him, decided that he was a good man for the mere fact he was so kind to niece. surprisingly enough, despite his intimidating looks―zolten was a gentle soul. he showed great kindness to his niece, and now chance, his sister, and the squad. zolten even offered to make his hero costume, much to his disbelief, but he told the man that it wasn't necessary like with froppy. unfortunately, zolten was more stubborn and started on a design, but also respected chance's taste and kept it simple for him.

in all honesty, it varied. for one thin, he's just not close to anyone and his prickly and cocky disposition tends to push others away. however, chance was a soft-hearted bloke and even he could not be an arse to yonamine. the only reason everyone knows he's not that big of a bad was because he helped the girl out. and admittedly, she rather admired him like a little sister would ( somehow, chance wonders how many unoffical sisters he'd have by the time he died ).

still didn't stop him from being rough to the others. sometimes he hits hard, but he refrained from hitting naything sensitive if he could. it's mainly his supposed pride that turned others away from him. hey, it wasn't his fault that technically speaking he was merely stating facts.

admiteedly, he's rather hurt by others who ignored him or argued back with him, but he maintained the attitude and only break slightly towards yonamine.

towards most of the teachers, he's rather critical of them. he respected aizawa, but for the flashier heroes or those with reputation like bakugou or had powers like todoroki...he scrutinized them and was wary of their methods. even with deku he still was a bit iffy about really.

CHILDISH WAR
reol & kradness
in all honesty, he didn't really want to interact with other students. period. however, with the mask he set upon himself, it was hard to not break it without snarkily responding to the teal-haired teen who's confidence rivalled his false one. every insult would be retorted, every action was criticized, the momet they looked at each other it seemed to be the start of another war.

foolishly, he thought that perhaps if he just kept going at it, if he consistently argued and degraded the other―eventually ryozo would be sick of it and just end it for the both of them. after all, no one was willing to put up with this version of him, right? how could they, when he was simply so cocky and seemingly cares for himself only.

and yet, it continued. everytime they met, without fail, they bantered and it became their thing. in the back of his mind, the part of him that wanted to push others away has been ringing the warning bells for days. but, on the other hand, deeper in the core of his heart, the yearning of friendship he depraved himself from has sparked and psuhed him to maintain the routine.

he shouldn't―

but ah, lets lie a bit to ourselves once in awhile.

YOO JAE SUK
vinxen
for ryozo, chance atwood was interesting. fighting back, proving to be a challenge, a stark difference from the others who had admired him in the past, following him like little ducklings, and was just simply not...chance.

for him? he wondered a lot about ryozo sometimes. mainly because, despite his actions, he did admire the boy so talented for his age. from his prowess, to his confidence, and the simple ability to be himself. sometimes he liked to think of what lies further beneath that visage. was it ugly, as ugly as him? did he hide skeleton in the closets like he did? did he have moments in his life where he did fail like he did?

but such questions never left his mouth, and instead he merely observed. and sometimes ryozo points it out, a smirk on his lips as he says things along the lines of "take a picture, it'll last longer." causing him to sputter a bit and a faint red to dust his fair skin. unknowingly, to chance anyways, that becomes one of ryozo's favorite reactions out of him ( and in his thoughts, he would like to take a picture of that instead ).

however, it's because that he tries to discover more of ryozo that he put cracks on his mask. moments wherein chance couldn't help but be a bit more concerned or seem to pause and change the topic of the conversaton with eyes that seemed to be looking into a memory that still pierces into him deeper than any other. it's subtle, but it makes the teen pause and worry, even when chance returns to his normal state.

it was when one of their banters got a bit too far that ryozo comes across a topic too sensitive. it was bound to happen, really, and when it did―chance's mask breaks to reveal a pained look, the sharp intake of breath and his frame freezing. and to ryozo, it stuns him briefly because chance never looked like this, and...did he cause it? something as simple as "and you'll go cry to your mama and papa once i beat you up." wasn't even one of the worst remarks―

"would be nice if i could even see the man now would it!?

and oh, that's why.

he tried to find his voice, tried to stammer something out, but it seemed as if nothing was capable of working as chance leaves him. somehow, that alone seemed to wash him over with a cold breeze, one that not even the weather inr ussia could compare.

and even with how he was, he didn't want to bring that reaction out ( especially chance ). so, when he comes across chance again, he silently requests to talk elsewhere and alone. fortunately for him, chance was a soft-hearted fellow who forgived, and even if hesitant, he followed him and it was different from any of their other interactions. rather awkward, unsure, and it felt like talking to different kinds of people. a ryozo not so confdent in himself and words much softer as he offered to simply get a meal for chance and apologise "sorry for what i said earlier."

in turn, chance would look at him stunned, a warmth welling up in him for he knows ryozo was apologetic and cared for him to an extent. and for once, in a long time, a soft and gentle smile spreads on his lips as he responded sincerely "it's fine, i forgive you."

but such a beautiful smile was strained by the memory of ryozo's words, with a heavy sigh and a pleading tone to his voice "just....do't bring up or say somethinglike that ever again....okay?"

the smile had took his breath away, but once it was strained, ryozo couldn't help but feel rather awkward. chance...chance being vulnerable didn't seem so plausible until he saw it for himself. he mutters in response, words meant to say nonchalantly but considering it was him―it held a lot more meaning "yeah, sure. never again. feel free to punch me or whatever."

and it makes him flabbergasted, to see ryozo even offer him that. he lets loose a bark of laughter from the shock before he poked the younger teen lightly on the forehead "i'll remember that. don't blame me if i do, though!"

the smile that was so bright had brought in new emotions to him, but he couldn't identify any of it. and for chance, ryozo's apology and his offer gave a warm feeling to him he had been trying so hard to avoid. but for now, they who beared a smiliar title yet under it lied different bases, now let themselves be more honest and enjoyed the comfort of the other's presence.

he was human―a simple thought that seemed so logical, but in an emotional aspect was so much more complex. seeing these sides of the other, they came to that conclusion.

KEEP OUT
mafumafu
it starts out subtle, arguments that held a more playful tone, the over protectiveness nature ryozo gained for chance whenever there was someone who dared to insult chance in his presence and he was the only one allowed to do so, their lingering gazes on each other―it was enough to raise a few eyebrows from the more observant and closer friends of the two.

maki oda had been oone of them, and as a friend of ryozo he had to tease the boy. calling him out at how he looked at chance, amused at how the other who usually was great at everything seemed to be unable to take step forward in romance with chance. in truth, ryozo wasn't even aware he was. but was that how it was? did he love chance? that beautiful who always bicker with him and he looked forward to?

he's not sure, but the more he thinks about him and chance in that way...he wanted it. he wanted to be able to hold him close, he wants to have that wondrous smile be aimed at him and be tinged with affection, he wanted so much more and it's startling how he just...he can't believe he fell in love with chance.

but as chance walked up to him, a hand clamping down on his shoulder as concerned eyes look over him but biting words escape his lips, he couldn't deny it.

however, he didn't confidently spout it out, didn't pull out any action that seemed irregular. he followed through the regular motions and try to calm his beating heart.

and for chance, for the older teen who was the current topic in ryozo's mind, he tried to ignore the fact he had growing feelings for ryozo. it's not the first time, he would notice the signs, but he didn't want to accept it. he was scared of what that would entail after all ( first it was his father, then it was his friends, and even his sister almost― ).

there was no denying it, though. especially when he returned home and to his sister. as he talk to her about his day and the subject being dominated by ryozo. it's obvious to the both of them what ryozo had become to chance, but none brought it up simply because they know that despite his brightening days and the smile he had on his face as he spoke about it and him―he was close to breaking.

when that day he woke up to knowing that he loved ryozo, the warmth was washed over by a great fear. that day, chance skipped school. the next day, he avoided ryozo for seemingly no reason at all. and such actions were enough to stab at the two deeply, a pain unlike any other. chance was already feeling the guilt and hurt, terrified of the pessimistic ends in the future. ryozo just simply could not understand why he would do this. why did chance start to avoid him> did he do something wrong? damn it chance just talk to me was all he could think.

his answers came in the form of a message from chance written by the ginger's sister.

"if you love him...please meet him and don't ever leave him. he's lost too much, he can't loose you too. i know he had been an but he has his reasons so...please be there for him."

foolish girl, ryozo thpught as he rushed to meet with chance, as if i wasn't thinking of fixing up that idiot's head.

NOW YOU CAN CRY
hoya
with chance's sister setting them up, the two finally came across each other after chance's constant avoidance. and stunned to see ryozo, he was unable to dodge the furious punch to the face from the other. as he found himself stumbling, he was pulled in face-to-face by the collar by the younger. anad as their gazes locked, he found a turmoil in the other, but most prominent were the anger and pain that wrenched his heart "you bastard! i don't know why the you started to avoid me, but god damn it i don't want to lose you!"

then the telekinetic boy continued, the grip on his collar loosened. an opportune time to escape, but having ryozo so close and here after so long seemed to lock him in place―the other leaning their foreheads against each other as he glared at him with mixed emotions and anger fading didn't help at all as it seemed to paralyze him further. "don't you think―don't even ing think that i didn't see you when you try to hide yourself away. those times the topic shifts because of something that you never told anyone about! don't...don't push yourself away...don't push yourself away from me now too damn it!"

it overwhelms him, ryozo's emotions and his own turbulent ones. there's desire to hold the other close and to push him away, a want to let ryozo in whilst another part of him wished to scream at him until he goes away. push and pull, it strained him greatly and finally, this mask he crafted, broke. vulnerability showing, tears running down his cheeks as he opens himself up in his chaotic state "then what do i do!? if i leave i hurt you. if i stay, i'll hurt you! and i will---god ryozo i don't want to lose you. i lost my father, my friends, and my sister nearly was ripped away from my life as well! everyone calls me lucky but all i do is bring misfortune to those i love! i don't---i can't lose you. ryozo...i'm scared...it hurts...it hurts every time and....i don't know how i'll manage if i lose you too. i don't want to hurt but why is it everything that i do does?"

to see the ginger breaking down, to see him at a state he had manged to take glimpses of before―it bewildered him and kicked the rage out of him. now, seeing chance cry and all his guilty, the broken soul underneath the false bravado...all he could do was hold him close, embrace him tightly despite how such motions and the acceptance of his own feelings were so new to him. however, chance sobbing and his words―ryozo knew he wanted to love him and show him that it was fine. he wanted to reassure, to protect, to bring back that smile that stole his heart.

"i won't leave you, i would never leave you if it means that you'll cry like this. i don't care if you think you are the cause of all that―but if they know you like i do, they'd never blame you. so stop taking the blame alone. i don't know them, but i'm sure if i were to ask them , they would never even think of blaming you, because it just so happened that they were chosen to leave early. it's simply fate." he paused, then pushed him away ever so gently and slightly―taking a look of the brit's face before he smiled sadly as he wiped away his tears "so please, stop hurting yourself. stop hurting me. don't stop yourself from being with me because that's just the same as killing me. heck, do you even have any idea how many times you've beaten me? i have to beat your score okay!"

those words, his warmth, it was enough to break chance's resolve to push him away. to be a crying mess in his arms as he apologises for his actions. two souls that seemed so similar yet holding such different bases coming to an understanding that moment.

if, afterwards, the banter toned down, it wasn't so noticeable. if, later, ryozo frets over a possibly bad injury chance might gain and chance freezes at the sight of ryozo getting a bad blow onto him, it seems to be expected as that's what close friends so, no? if, all alone, they were to shorten the gap between them, one head lying on the other's shoulder, fingers intertwined and a comforting silence surrounding them―no one was there to see.

"i love you." came out naturally out of their lips as they found themselves in their own little world. not saying they weren't keen on showing off, it just felt strange to intimately show off these sides to them that were their cores to anyone else.

their first kiss, in the battlefield where they've defeated their enemy with ryozo bruised and battered, laying down on the ground exhausted. and chance, with fear gripping at his heart and desperation in his veins, he prayed for ryozo to be okay. and he kissed him, to not regret for not doing such an act and a childish hope that he'll wake up. and when he did, they do their best to lighten up the mood with their bickering, but an intimacy as they remained close.

"now you can cry." as ryozo held him, reassured him, and lets him know that all will be okay. even if it was a ocnstant reminder, for chance held so little faith, he remained and continued to love.

chance on the other hand, pushed onwards and anchored him down. maturing alongside the other in this love story of their's.

TRIVIA.

` despite the fact they were already dating, no one realized they were and thought they were still being idiots.

` whilst chance could definitely fake getting injured by ryozo in spars, ryozo couldn't. this was mainly due to chance's own issues and confidence.

` his sister definitely scared ryozo, chance could only apologise as he, too, could not fight against his sister.

` most likely to get a bird and deem it their child. it definitely is a robin, and ryozo may or may not really enjoy the sight of chance being a sweetheart with the small animal.

` insults galore, chance frequently liked to call him froggy, though.

` chance was actually on good terms with froppy, and knowing ryozo liked her―he may have surprised him by going together on lunch with her as he asked her to come along.

` after they got together, chance frequently cooked meals for them together.

` ryozo enjoyed to give chance love letters when he could, it flustered him all the time.

` both can be quite the tease, but usually it's the softer gestures full of affection and pure love that really gets to them ( or a shirtless chance as well in ryozo's case ).

` they're known for being the green duet. some ship names a few of the classmates and chance's sister have come up for them were clover frogs, froggy clover, lucky froggy, green2, and the sort. chance pretended he never heard of it.

` chance would never admit it, but he preferred being the little spoon. it was nice and felt safe to be in the arms of another.

` he loved to kiss ryozo on the forehead the most.
THE INTERVIEW.

he wasn't sure why he was called alone--only to find out that he's the only one in the 1-a classroom.

however, he's not entirely alone. what he saw in front of him is the symbol of peace standing by the windows, his eyes focused on the forest surrounding the building.
interviewicon

...!
to say he was shocked was an undestatement. he would have never expected to have a one one one meeting with deku of all people right from the start. but he supposed that there was somethig serious about to go down. hopefully...it wasn't about his past.

yOu shOulD haVe fAllEn lIke uS.

deku turned around, a smile gracing his lips when he saw the student and waved.

hello! you must be chance atwood! i'm happy that you agreed to come here even if all might didn't told you why you need to.

interviewicon
he scratched the back of his neck, unsure of how to act for he did not expect this to occur. in the end, he opted to grin ( a tad bit awkward one, though ) as he looked at the other.
interviewicon

it's no big deal. and hey―listening to all might led me to meeting you! that's quite lucky of me, eh~
( and nothing seems wrong. the false cheer hiding his anxiety. the great amount needed to make the word 'lucky' not bitter at all. )
please sit.

interviewicon
he courteously pointed at the familiar chair where he and his classmates sat on.

there was a pause, but eventually he did as deku said. he tried not to fidget or to squirm on his seat, as deku's presence, reputation, and more plagued his mind. he didn't want to embarrass himself, or come off as an to the other. yes, he wanted to push others away. however, that didn't mean he wanted to leave a bad impression on the number one hero of all people.

deku leaned on the table, crossing his arms across his chest before staring at him, the seriousness in his face is enough to make him nervous already. deku is the symbol of peace and number one hero in japan, after all.

to explain why i called you here, and same goes to the others previously, i'm going straight to the point. japan is in danger, more or less.

interviewicon
ah, so was this what it was about? he stayed silent, watching deku as the other seemed to scrutinize him. however, chance had nothing to say just yet, merely waiting as he ready himself for the coming question.

tell me, why did you chose ua instead of other schools who also offer hero courses? you do know their reputation--especially during my generation back then.

interviewicon
two shades of verdant eyes locked onto each other. one open and inquiring, the other secretive and steely. a sigh escapes from him as he closes the window to his soul, a carefully constructed answer leaving his lips. a vague truth.
interviewicon

in the end, ua is still the best school out there isn't it? you and all might came form it for one. plus, my sister had always thought ua would be the coolest to go to. the good rep outweighed the bad rep, it's as simple as that.
a simple shrug, another moment of silence. then deku continued, and he wondered what more the man wanted.

do you want to become a hero?

interviewicon
he tilted his head, loud and clear emerald eyes piercing right through him. it's almost intimidating despite the kind and innocent expression he's wearing.

but what made it worse was how truly personal the question was to chance. for did he truly want to be a hero? after all that's been done, after all the things his luck had done, after all the tarnishing of childhood dreams? it feels so, so wrong to be there, but...

he knew his answer, always had and always will.
interviewicon

...yes.
there's something reverent in the way he said that single word. a finality and vow that only he could decipher. whether deku noticed or not was up in the air, however he could care less.

then i'm asking you this; if me and the pro-heroes needed back-up, would you come? would you help us?

interviewicon
he blinks at the question, a frown tugging at his lips. but he shuts his eyes. although designed as a yes or no question, his answer was anything but.
interviewicon

it depends, really. as you know, my quirk is based on luck. i always go by my gut and usually my instincts were one that led o a result wherein i found myself in the―so-called―best case scenario. i also would like to consider the whole scenario first before picking my choice. hence, my answer of 'it depends'.
the hero smiled, nodding slowly and pushed himself away from the table. the sound of his heavy iron black soles clashing with the cemented floor echoed throughout the empty classroom and deku just chuckled.

work hard, young chance. thank you for your time. make all of us proud, including yourself.

interviewicon
he gave him a thumbs up, causing chance to blink as he realized this was the end of their meeting. he had to hold himself back from sighing in relief. he wasn't sure how long he could have lasted with the unintentionally personal questions.

make all of us proud, including yourself..

he couldn't help but laugh bitterly. the soft noise escaping his lips the moment he exited the class and was a distant away. it was too bad for deku, all the pride had for himself...they were all lies in the end.

for there will never be anything that deserved to be proud of.

SUGGESTED ARCS:
`the chance arc. one time they had to work together with a pro hero, although said pro hero wasn't much about rescuing civilians and more about defeating villains. when chance had realized the pro they were working with, he became oddly silent and posture stiff. his fists were clenched tight and he stayed at the back. the pro was clueless, but the class noted his odd attitude but he wouldn’t look at anyone.

it was supposed to be a simple mission, but turns out the main villain boss fight was against a dangerous criminal the pro had fought before. if chance had been cold before, now he was frozen. but a classmate snapped him out of it for a brief moment before he started moving. he tried to save as many civilians as he could, more focused on them than detaining the villain. the hero and villain were causing a devastation and all chance wanted to do was to run away because this had happened to him before.

but now, he was a hero in training and even if he’s terrified---he had to make this scenario better than before. so he tried to save those he could, drag his other classmates in to focus more on rescuing first ( the desperation in his voice, the determination he showed, it was nothing like he had showed them before and without realizing it they moved together with his will ). fortunately, the evacuation was a success and they soon joined in the fray of the battle. not too long after, villain is defeated and they were cheering in victory except for chance.

he looked at the destruction, recalled the crying civilians, and what he looked at was the victory of a battle but the loss of a war. when the pro started to boast about how great he was and that all is well, a part of him couldn’t help it any longer and he snapped at the pro.

“you think you could be proud of this result?” the disbelief in his voice had been prominent, as well as the anger and sadness. “look around! this destruction used to be the home of the people! where will they live now!? there were people suffering and absolutely terrified to be so close to potential death! can’t you see? this was no victory, but a loss that you’re gloating about! and you wouldn’t do anything about it like before---!”

he shuts up after that, seething but hateful glare now turned away. the hero realized what he meant though, and yet scoffed “well no one’s dead now aren’t they? after all you were there to handle them.”

“that’s not the point--!” he shouted in response, but the hero cut him off “and plus, they could get new homes. as long as the villain is captured all is well.”

it was at that point that chance would leave. perhaps a teacher or classmate would rush to him and they would then try to bring chance back only for them to see him break down and just expressed how he couldn’t believe that this was a hero that was supposed to protect them. “if he was a hero---then i don’t ever want to be one!”

of course, hearing this, they try to convince him otherwise ( insert speech here ) and they told him how if heroes like that existed, then heroes like chance should exist. because today they saw chance try his best to save the people, wishing to be able to salvage whatever he could for them, and seeked for nothing but that. and they knew that if they couldn’t trust that pro hero, they could at least trust him. he was stunned by their response, but he told them that he wanted some alone time and they reluctantly left him. afterwards, the class and teachers realized that chance had been one of the people involved in the match between the same hero and villain long ago, and just like back then he tried to salvage what he could but that time he lost more than he could save. this brought a new light to the english teen and the class opted to prepare him gifts and a moment of joy for being a great hero and to try and get to know him better as they realized there’s more to him than simply being an .

when he returned, they whisked him off to celebrate and enjoy their time together, being nice to him and shocking him with the kind gesture. he, of course, called him out for it, and after a moment of silence they told him how they found out what happened to him before and that they felt that he seemed to only remember the bad things about it. so they wanted him to be able to remember the good he had done, saving the people and being a true hero and that this celebration was for that, so he would not be tainted by only the negative aspect of the incident.

predictably, chance goes into shock and proceeded to deny any of their words and ran away. it’s hard for him to accept that after a long time of self loathing. so he ended up doing what he knew better and avoid the situation. this time, he would be caught by his sister who found out what happened and she berated him for his actions. after a heart-to-heart with her and more breakdowns, he decided to return, sheepish and apologetic for his actions. surprisingly, they were still there and were patient with him. he hated to be emotional, but seeing them still waiting for him and being understanding of his actions made him cry from the joy, the warmth, and the guilt. after that incident, they started to understand chance more as an individual as a whole.
