personality —

passionate&temper: Beomsoo is known for his passion towards his rapping and dancing. He lives and breathes for it, so it takes it incredibly seriously. When it comes to these things, Beomsoo is insanely serious about them and holds himself to the highest standards. Beomsoo just enjoys them so much that he can't imagine a life without them, they are his pride and joy. However, due to how much pressure he puts himself in with his passion, he tends to have a temper. Not towards anyone else, mostly towards himself. If he misses a dance move or a beat, Beomsoo gets so frustrated that he lashes out, punching at the floor or letting out screams. Holding himself to the highest regard with his dancing has made it that no mistake can be met without some sort of anger from himself. He needs to be perfect. 

 

honest&selfish: Beomsoo is an honest guy, as he tries not to lie or do anything of the sort. He doesn't want to be known as someone who can't be trusted in the regards of the truth. He tends to be brutally honest at points, but in the end, he means good when he does it. He genuinely thinks that dress makes you look fat, and he's just helping you by making sure you won't ever wear it again. Beomsoo can also be quite selfish though, as he wants to improve himself more than others. He will help others (if they beg him hard enough), but mostly, he's going to be helping himself. He won't offer to help others when it comes to helping with choreography or when it comes to rapping, as he sees it as being detrimental to him succeeding in the show. He can't be helping the enemy in what they are competing in, even if they could be called "friends"?

 

brave&childish: This kid is not afraid of anything. He isn't afraid of failing or criticism because he is confident in himself. If he went through a haunted house, he'd be stone-faced through the whole thing because nothing fazes him. He loves taking risks and is ready for anything coming his way. It's hard to ever see him actually crying because nothing really upsets him in that way, he only gets angry. However, Beomsoo can be quite childish when it comes to really anything. He's not mature in anything and he likes to crack inappropriate jokes at times because he finds them funny but he always does it at the most inconvenient times. It's hard to take him seriously when he is being such a child. If people are teasing him, he will resort to calling them names back and just making sure he has the last word. 

 

playful&conceited: Beomsoo, despite being childish, can be quite playful. He likes to be funny and crack (stupid) jokes to lighten up the tension. Beomsoo has so much energy that he needs a release for it, which he took up dance for that, but sometimes he just needs to run around the practice room screaming and just jumping around. He isn't afraid to try new things like makeup or clothing, which some people see as him being "gay" but he doesn't see it like that. He just loves trying new things. On another note, Beomsoo is a guy where he pretends to be an alpha, but he's nowhere near the top of the food chain. He tends to only hang with the big dogs of the company (as in trainees), as he thinks he belongs with them and if he hangs with them then that will raise him to their level. He does think of himself as a top dog though, and he likes to brag, A LOT. While his skills are amazing, he lacks being humble which is seriously a big flaw and one that he needs to work on.

 

uncreative&dumb&charismatic: Beomsoo is one of the most charismatic people in the show, as he can enrapture people with his playful attitude and his amazing dancing. He just has the feel of being a celebrity, and it's something that Beomsoo definitely should be confident in himself about. Something that Beomsoo really lacks that he hates admitting is creativity. He envies those who can think of new and innovative ways just at a snap of their fingers. He can't choreograph or write his owns raps well, and it's concerning to him. Whenever someone mentions it, he gets mad (at himself) for being so dumb. It really takes him down a few notches. To go along with his uncreativity is how dumb Beomsoo can be. He is terrible at reading the atmosphere, and he tends not to have a filter, saying the first thing that comes to his mind. He has a one track mind that is going to get him punched in the face at some point soon.

background — 

Beomsoo grew up without a father in Daegu, Korea. His mother works as a spicy rice cake stand owner, which kept them afloat as a kid. She ended up saving enough money and they ended up moving to Seoul when Beomsoo turned four. They still aren't that well off, but Yeonhee (his mother) has more business than she ever did in Daegu. Beomsoo has mediocre/borderline failing grades in school, but he did take up ballroom dancing as a hobby as a kid because his mother thought it was better than him being stuck at her stall all the time. This is when Beomsoo's dance interest awakened due to witnessing a few boys b-boying in the gym at one point before practice. This was also his intro to rap music, and he learned about drake and jay z and the likes. 

trainee life at bighit — 

Beomsoo joined BIGHIT in the summer of 2013 when he was 14. After practicing for a few months, (and seeing an ad posted online for auditions at BIGHIT), Beomsoo went ahead and auditioned after school at the company, dancing a cover of 2PM's heartbeat. It did take a long while (two months) before Beomsoo actually heard anything back, the company honestly debating whether to accept him or not since he didn't really showcase any like originality. However, Bang Sihyuk thought, "Hey, he's young and fresh, he'll probably grow out of that." Well, surprise surprise, Beomsoo is still at stage one.

Beomsoo is a love or hate guy. Mostly, he just gets on people's nerves. He especially grinds Shun's gears and he makes sure to pick on Shun the most when it comes to "playful bantering" (im sure the murder claims by Shun are 100% real). For his relationships with the trainees, Beomsoo is pretty social with the others, but once it's time to go home for the night, there are whispers about how "annoying" and "conceited" he is, which Beomsoo is too dumb to realize are directed at him. Nothing can really bring him down, and there are a few trainees out there that Beomsoo could sorta call "friends" (not shun tho, fk that dude). 

Anyways, Beomsoo has always been amazing as being a trainee, he understood the choreography well and he always managed to rap perfectly, which made him into a trainee who is a force to be reckoned with. However, Bang Sihyuk hasn't seen much growth of Beomsoo as an individual, which is why Beomsoo was even put into this program into the first place. Sihyuk wants to see if it will break Beomsoo out of this shell that he is harvesting himself in. The trainers, honestly, are hoping that the show can really bring Beomsoo's creativity that he is lacking out so he isn't just a one-trick pony that they are afraid of. (I explain each individual trainer in the relationships section if that's okay)

   

family & friends — 

o -  Lee Yeonhee | Mother | the best mother in the world

Beomsoo and his mother are BFFs. He loves her so much and he appreciates her with every fiber of his being. He wants to make her proud as her best boy. She tries so hard as a single mom to him and he respects her so much. Yeonhee is proud of her son no matter what and supports him endlessly, however, she wonders if the lack of a male figure in his life made him so conceited and childish. She wonders if he will ever mature, but Beomsoo is still young, so there is still time for him to grow out of it. 
 

o -  Ryuu "Happy" Haru | Dance Coach | He's good but.. when will he grow?

Happy thinks that Beomsoo is one of the best dancers he's seen. He even likes how Beomsoo was a talented ballroom dancer as a kid. The kid sure has talent, but Happy is honestly pissed at how Beomsoo can't really grow past that. He can't choreograph and is always following instructions, which is important but Happy needs to see him actually grow past being a student. Beomsoo is all about being able to dance what he is given, but he can't freestyle for . Happy tends to get fed up with Beomsoo's lack of creativity, where he just wants to tell the kid to leave if he can't move past stage one.

 

o -  Henry Kim | Rap Coach | Textbook amazing, but he's missing something?

Henry finds Beomsoo's tone and ability great, and it's good to listen to... his lyrics are another story. Henry just finds them cringe and uninteresting, which frustrates Beomsoo so much. Henry wants to help the kid, but Beomsoo just doesn't get better. In theory, Beomsoo is amazing, but if he was to be given freestyle, he'd be a sitting duck. It's something he needs to work on, but Henry knows its a dog eat dog world so good luck to Beomsoo.
 

o -  Han Gyutae | Vocal Coach | Please stop singing, my ears are bleeding...

Gyutae just wants to stuff Beomsoo's mouth with cotton to make him stop trying to sing. The kid (as many others) are so hopeless when it comes to singing. Beomsoo thinks Gyutae is just being mean but deep down he knows he's right. Gyutae is Beomsoo's least favorite coach, and Gyutae genuinely wants to help this kid at least become decent, but Beomsoo is so against it that Gyutae just doesn't care if he fails now. 

My feelings are the most sincere. 

    

opinion on the bighit boys — 
Well, Beomsoo sees them as the best of the best (with a few stragglers he doesn't really care about). Obviously, they are the best and he could care less about the others. Shun is a bit of a prick at times, but he is so talented so it's hard to hate him too much. He's not really a big fan when others try to look down on him (i.e. try to help him out??) when he gets upset at himself, like how Mingyu tries at times (also his vegan freaks Beomsoo out). He and Hyunjin are close "friends" due to their childish tendencies, but Hyunjin also tries to be nice to him at times when all Beomsoo wants is to be left alone. 

opinion on the freelancers — 
These children (you are a child dip) are untalented and it's honestly sad how they are going to get stomped on by the bighit boys. Is he surprised and a bit intimidated at Jinwoo and Jaejin's singing? Perhaps....  Kangdae? Ha, could beat him in his sleep. Are his producing abilities pretty cool? Yes, but let's not get into that territory. Beomsoo can't be intimidated by anyone, especially some stragglers that were picked up off the side of the road. Beomsoo looks down on them, but he tries to act all "friendly" with them when he sees them, only to make fun of them later. 

 

interview time ! 

 

   

"hey, please introduce yourself."  

▪ "What's up everyone, my name's Byun Beomsoo, the 19-year-old dancing and rapping machine." He flashes a smirk that he thinks comes off as y but in reality, it's, cringy and greasy to those watching. 

 

"what made you want to become an idol and why did you sign under bighit?"  

▪ He takes no time in answering. "I wanted to be an idol so the world can see my talents." He doesn't realize how conceited he sounds to others and continues. "Big Hit was the first to realize my talent, so I just had to sign under them of course." He looks directly at the interviewer, smiling a smile that is too tight, too greasy. 
 

"do you think that you'd have the same chances as with bighit if you were signed under another company?"  

▪ "Do I think I would have the same chances?" Beomsoo's eyes get wide and he leans back in the chair he's sitting on, smoothing his hair back as he thinks. After a few seconds, he speaks again, a little unsure of himself. "I would like to think I would have the same chances, but probably not. " He gives a dry laugh.
 

"what would you say is your biggest strength and your biggest weakness?"  

▪  "If nobody's realized it yet, " He flexes his arms, almost smacking the interviewer in the face with his elbow. "I am pretty good at dancing." He gets up and does a quick popping dance, not realizing he's really wasting everyone's time. "As well as rapping, of course." He winks, which leaves people second hand embarrassed for the dude.
 

"how far would you go to succeed in the show?"  

▪ "I want to show everyone how serious I am when it comes to succeeding." His eyes narrow, and it's as if there is a deadly determination in them that is odd coming from someone like Beomsoo. "I am willing to do anything to win."
 

"what do you have that makes you a standout from all the other bighit trainees?"  

▪ "If it isn't my handsome looks?" He giggles a bit to himself, "Then it has to be my amazing performance abilities. I will win the hearts of the audience."
 

"that's it so far. do you want to add anything else?"  

▪ "I am not going to be seen as some background character, I will show the Freelancers no mercy."

the one and only.

Strength —  
o - Presence: Beomsoo does have a presence that commands the stage. Once he steps on, all the former idiocy fades away and he becomes a whole new being. It's as if he's the only one on stage and he becomes a monster who just wants to dance and show off his rapping skills.

o - Fluidity: He can easily transition himself from different choreographies without much if any at all, trouble. It's as if he was a wave of water just rushing and endlessly moving and tying together. He is confident in himself and his abilities that he knows that he can improvise and transition smoothly.

o - Tone: Beomsoo has a great tone when it comes to rapping. He might not be able to write the best raps or anything, but the strength and pitch that he spits out are all that matters. He sells himself really well with his voice and the audience barely pays attention to the words, just wanting to listen to his voice again. 

Weaknesses —  
o - Singing: He doesn't so much as he just can't hit notes right. As mentioned before, Beomsoo's tone is really nice to listen to, but it can't really do much when you can't hit even the most basic notes. Beomsoo tries so hard to perfect his singing, but at this point, there is no way that he'll be able to sing anything. He does try though.

o - Problem Solving: If he's in a funk, Beomsoo can't dig himself out at all. There was a reason he was terrible in school, and that's because he is terrible at problem-solving. If he gets a dance move or misses a lyric, he can't understand at all why that happens, which frustrates him beyond control, which is why he lashes out sometimes. 

o - Teamwork: Beomsoo isn't as bad as Shun when it comes to teamwork, as Beomsoo really does try to force a relationship between his peers. He just has no experience really working in a team, as he just doesn't think he suits being in a team environment. It's a dog eat dog world, and Beomsoo isn't about to let any teammates take him down so easily. 

o - Creativity: His biggest flaw is his uncreativity. He can't choreograph or write up lyrics well, he usually is being led in that aspect. He wants to improve on it, but he just always falls flat. He's either too boring or his lyrics make no sense. He is just a sitting duck when it comes to being creative. He envies those who can compose and choreograph with ease, he wants to be like that someday.
