jung solmi was born on january 31, 2001 in the heart of the country, the city of daejeon. her family consisted of her parents, her father who is a dentist and her mother a vocal coach turned housewife, an older sister and a older brother, who are 5 and 2 years older than her respectively. due to their mother's love for music, the jung siblings grew up musically inclined, with the three being able to play at least one instrument at the age of ten.

at the age of 12, the young teenager solmi watches accidentally watches exo's debut stage with her brother and fell instantly in love with sehun. well, that's what she said. from that day onwards, she vowed to support the group no matter what, and she did. while fangirling, solmi made sure that it wouldn't affect her school grades as she wanted to go to a good university in seoul. 

two years after that, 14 year old solmi and her older brother were in seoul to visit their sister in her university. while out shopping to buy her a gift, solmi was approached by a scout from sm, offering her to try out an audition. though a big fan of exo, solmi actually had second thoughts as she wanted to go to university despite being skilled in both singing and dancing (she has to thank her school's festivals for making her discover that). but after being pursuaded by her mmother, who is a fan of yunho of dbsk, she finally agreed to try it out. it didn't take her long to get accepted.
