joonyoung is naturally warm. he greets the world with a bright smile and isn't reluctant to approach anyone when he wants or needs to, (almost) always ready to reach out a helping hand. which is exactly the reason why he knows almost all of his schoolmates and why he's on a first name basis with customers who regularly come in the place he works in. he's thoughtful enough to remember the small things that warm your heart, would willingly sit by you when you need someone by your side, joke around long enough until you smile, and would even take you home late at night when he thinks it's too dangerous to walk alone.
suffice to say, he's also quite the mature one (at least to a level higher than most of his friends), level-headed enough when everyone's panicking or are being impulsive, some of his friends tend to turn to him when they need someone to reason things out even when joonyoung has his streaks of impulsiveness, too. because at the least, he makes sure the apartment stays intact and they aren't all bankrupt and homeless by the end of the day.
however, while joonyoung's warm to everyone, people often tend to notice he's a little negligent towards himself and it wasn't even always deliberate! it's just easy for him to forget how he hasn't eaten lunch or dinner or he hadn't taken medicine he should have taken hours ago or that he had chosen to cover for one of his colleagues instead of getting that extra sleep he could have gained after losing them during finals or how he got that scrape on his knee. thus, people (esp. jaehyuk) tend to corner him or call him incessantly to make sure he hasn't accidentally injured or mutilated himself.
moreso, however contradicting, you could say joonyoung was outgoing because he was confident in making friends, brightening up the room, and joking around, but he was also reserved in the way he chose to listen more than he talked. he would tell short stories of childhood, daily life, casual talk, and jokes to make the room laugh but rarely ever open up to anyone about his problems and emotions unless he's forced to or wants to (which is never, really).
if he were to have one fatal flaw, it was his perfectionist nature towards the things he works on. history.
joonyoung grew up with his grandparents, mostly because his parents worked long hours in corporation but he grew to just accept that fact. perhaps it was because he grew up alongside his grandparents that it became easy for him to take circumstances as is and to accept he couldn't really do much about his situation. instead, he directed his energy towards making friends and building bonds with people, doing a good job in his studies so that perhaps, when his parents come to see him, they'd be proud of what he's done. he was obedient and respectful growing up, having been exposed to older people outside of school but also learnt how to have fun, with his grandfather taking him to see the ocean every other weekend and even teaching him how to prank other people in the neighborhood good-naturedly.
joonyoung's parents never really get to see their child grow, by the time he was 14, his parents were on the verge of separation and when joonyoung decided to stay with his grandparents as his official guardians, they hadn't really put up that much of a fight. you could say they're making up for it by separately providing him with enough money to actually live and study comfortably without needing to hold up a job. but then joonyoung thinks it'd be good if he could also grow to learn how to provide for himself, choosing to save most of the money he receives for whatever plans he has for himself in the future.

> originally, he'd had been the cafe's mascot, mostly giving out flyers and advertising outside in the sweltering heat because it was the only opening he thought he could tolerate. what was so bad about giving out flyers for like an hour or two, right? he learned a lot of things on that stint, like how virtually no one gives a and will be rude and throw paper away everywhere (which is enraging because joonyoung hates people who wastes things) and he has to pick it up after his shifts (because it's hard to move in a goddamn suit) because it's awful and harmful to the environment. not to mention that it was so hot that by the time he's finished with his shift and gets home, he's too tired and drained to do anything productive (which had consequences in his university work leading to him being constantly frustrated (involves a lot of crying)). when there comes an opening for cafe waiter, he jumps on it, left only to gaze after the new hire manning the mascot pitifully the following months after. (he still picks up the wasted papers, sometimes using them as scratch papers at home).
> the new opening said he was gonna be a waiter but apparently, being a waiter included tending to the people's AND the cat's needs, the latter turning out to be more problematic because while humans talked, cats were really demanding with their feline sassiness, deadly eyes, and curling tails and while he initially didn't have a problem against cats. from then on, he vowed never to get cats as pets. also, knowing how to brew coffee was another opportunity for the owner to exploit him further. so now, he's a waiter/cat-sitter/barista in university and if he's allowed to say, a little undercompensated for his service. but... it's not like he completely hates his job anyway (he doesn't on most days), the people are tolerable most days (he likes talking to them, okay!) and his boss is a decent woman when she isn't looking at him with stars in her eyes as he scrambles to brew coffee, give out orders, AND make sure the cats don't spit furball on the customers' cups (hiring more people apparently wasn't an option). it's just... the cats, really. well anyway, if he'd really hated the job, he wouldn't have stayed as long as he has.
lifestyle.
joonyoung wakes up at 6 am on routine, getting breakfast, cleaning things up, brewing coffee for the whole apartment, and preparing for university which starts at 7 am. from mondays to fridays, his classes end at 3 pm at most (some days he only has until 1 pm, of which his vacant time go into org/committee or studying in the library).
his shifts are also only on weekdays from 4 pm to 9 pm (he gets full-week breaks on finals week and morning shifts (7am-12pm) during summer), tending to whatever he needs to do, although he's primarily in charge of giving out the orders to customers and making sure they're having a good time. he roughly arrives back to the apartment an hour later, dedicating most of his time to studying and organizing university things after showering. or if need be, talking to his friends. he has a lot of time, considering he doesn't sleep until late into the night when everyone's asleep.
on weekends, he has saturday meetings with the events committee from 8am-11am over coffee. then he spends most of his time just hanging out with friends or at home. comfortable and ready for any plans on a usual basis because if he'd had prior plans like visiting his grandparents or going to the beach (like how he does monthly), his friends would know. he usually likes cuddling up on his blanket and watching random stuff on the television before he's roped into going out to drink or going into a noraebang or sometimes (if the world hates him that day), get fooled/coerced into buying everyone a meal.
apartment life.
joonyoung brews morning coffee for the apartment in exchange for all the borrowed (stolen) clothes and occasionally treats them for a meal when he can (or is forced to). none of them ever lets him go near a stove, the one time they forced him to cook, they almost lost their apartment. contrary to his outgoing personality, joonyoung is more quiet in the apartment, content with listening to the bickering and incessant loudness inside the apartment. he often just cuddles up in his blanket on free days in the living room or study in his room, occasionally asking his roommates how they're doing or cleaning stuff up (that isn't his room nor his mess) when he has enough patience (which is not often). he has a fairly good relationship with everyone and jokes around with them often when he has the chance.
he's not a total menace, if he could say so himself, he doesn't even use the wifi as much as the others do (except to watch dogs and ocean stuff on youtube, sue him), except maybe for the days he shouts to keep it down! i'm ing studying! on finals week and proceeding to apologize profusely the week after and buying food as compensation. bonus: he likes milk (which he gets teased about because ohmygod joon, you're such a cat!).

> the new opening said he was gonna be a waiter but apparently, being a waiter included tending to the people's AND the cat's needs, the latter turning out to be more problematic because while humans talked, cats were really demanding with their feline sassiness, deadly eyes, and curling tails and while he initially didn't have a problem against cats. from then on, he vowed never to get cats as pets. also, knowing how to brew coffee was another opportunity for the owner to exploit him further. so now, he's a waiter/cat-sitter/barista in university and if he's allowed to say, a little undercompensated for his service. but... it's not like he completely hates his job anyway (he doesn't on most days), the people are tolerable most days (he likes talking to them, okay!) and his boss is a decent woman when she isn't looking at him with stars in her eyes as he scrambles to brew coffee, give out orders, AND make sure the cats don't spit furball on the customers' cups (hiring more people apparently wasn't an option). it's just... the cats, really. well anyway, if he'd really hated the job, he wouldn't have stayed as long as he has.
lifestyle.
joonyoung wakes up at 6 am on routine, getting breakfast, cleaning things up, brewing coffee for the whole apartment, and preparing for university which starts at 7 am. from mondays to fridays, his classes end at 3 pm at most (some days he only has until 1 pm, of which his vacant time go into org/committee or studying in the library).
his shifts are also only on weekdays from 4 pm to 9 pm (he gets full-week breaks on finals week and morning shifts (7am-12pm) during summer), tending to whatever he needs to do, although he's primarily in charge of giving out the orders to customers and making sure they're having a good time. he roughly arrives back to the apartment an hour later, dedicating most of his time to studying and organizing university things after showering. or if need be, talking to his friends. he has a lot of time, considering he doesn't sleep until late into the night when everyone's asleep.
on weekends, he has saturday meetings with the events committee from 8am-11am over coffee. then he spends most of his time just hanging out with friends or at home. comfortable and ready for any plans on a usual basis because if he'd had prior plans like visiting his grandparents or going to the beach (like how he does monthly), his friends would know. he usually likes cuddling up on his blanket and watching random stuff on the television before he's roped into going out to drink or going into a noraebang or sometimes (if the world hates him that day), get fooled/coerced into buying everyone a meal.
apartment life.
joonyoung brews morning coffee for the apartment in exchange for all the borrowed (stolen) clothes and occasionally treats them for a meal when he can (or is forced to). none of them ever lets him go near a stove, the one time they forced him to cook, they almost lost their apartment. contrary to his outgoing personality, joonyoung is more quiet in the apartment, content with listening to the bickering and incessant loudness inside the apartment. he often just cuddles up in his blanket on free days in the living room or study in his room, occasionally asking his roommates how they're doing or cleaning stuff up (that isn't his room nor his mess) when he has enough patience (which is not often). he has a fairly good relationship with everyone and jokes around with them often when he has the chance.
he's not a total menace, if he could say so himself, he doesn't even use the wifi as much as the others do (except to watch dogs and ocean stuff on youtube, sue him), except maybe for the days he shouts to keep it down! i'm ing studying! on finals week and proceeding to apologize profusely the week after and buying food as compensation. bonus: he likes milk (which he gets teased about because ohmygod joon, you're such a cat!).

joonyoung's grandparents knew jaehyuk's parents and they'd often had to go to and from school together as kids and it only seemed natural to have him be part of his life the continuing years after with their toothless smiles and mutual hatred of puberty. you could say, jaehyuk's the only person joonyoung ever really opens up to (but still needs a lot of persuasion) aside from his grandparents and ever really listens to (he gets nagged at a lot). jaehyuk's some kind of balance that keeps him grounded on most times he forgets himself (like when he's sad or frustrated or lost). joonyoung has huge fondness (and yes, emOTIONS, LoVe) for jaehyuk, with only the both of them oblivious and everyone else aware, his eyes always going softer, calmer when he sees the other. almost as if everything is dull compared to that bundle of mess of a bestfriend he had. even then, the both of them maintain the typical relationship of bestfriends

she's that childhood neighbor joonyoung's sure should be way older than him (even if she's a year younger). she nags at him all the time, one call from his grandparents and she's sure to be up at his face wherever he is (university, cafe, apartment), he's not sure how she has spare keys, but some days, she lounges in his room and even has the audacity to sleep there, leaving joonyoung to sleep on the couch in the living room. combined with jaehyuk and some of their other friends, they're a force to be reckoned with and he never has the balls to go against them (like being forced to rest for a whole week, to drive them to somewhere, everything). but he can't say he doesn't love her a lot. oh, and one more thing, strangers think they're dating. but ew.
*audible sigh* "seungwan..." *swatting of arms* "go away, let me in' sleep" *joonyoung whining* "that isn't even your bed and this isn't even your apartment!" *snoring* *sigh* *closes door* joonyoung wakes up with a strain on his neck from sleeping on the couch.

"k." joonyoung rolls his eyes, smiling a little in fondness. "let's just do it then."
"soooo... if we need groceries .. are you gonna be our midnight milk run or not ?" he laughs. "did you still have to ask? you know i'm okay with going out at night," he hums. "it's better me than anyone else, i mean some of you might doze off while walking or something." he says teasingly. (someone in the room (could be jaehyuk): "THAT WAS ONE TIME. AND I WAS TIRED, OKAY.")
