pls make characters more complex than just "average"

for any new fanfic authors out there looking to start a story or maybe revamp or make a drabble. Whatever you plan on writing, please try to avoid the word "average" to describe your character.

You know that your character isn't average.

She/He is going to have complex relationships.

She/He is going to be born with a special skill or ability (what have you)

She/He is going to have flaws

What you plan to happen in your story is not going to be an "average" story so let's avoid that word.

But hey, I'm not a professional. What I say here will have no weight at all. You do you. This is a suggestion. Because so many great stories out there go unnoticed because of commonly used words to describe heroes or heroines in the story ;~; let's give characters some more depth! GO GO! :D

I don't think new authors should really mind about it cause they are just starting out. Complex characters can attract the readers but then again it depends on how the author describes it because it can be challenging and confusing especially if they aren't use to describe it or still haven't develope their writing styles.
Just bcs you're new doesn't mean you should go big especially if it make your story doesn't go the way you want. Let them start with what they feel comfortable and soon they will slowly learn how to portray and unfold the characters with a lot of practices and reading.
Writing also require experience and all of the experience authors also have their stories starting with an average characters and slowly began developing their writing skills especially in potraying characters.
Also if you prefer a complex characters, you might want to explore a different platform other than aff or wattpad. I'm just saying ∩˙▿˙∩

I think sometimes writers truly want to start out their character as 'average' and then showing you that no, they're not average. Or they are modest so they use the word. I think the readers sometimes are too picky. Sometimes, if the writers are good at writing, they use their characters as a narration, and sometimes that character would think of themselves, their own perception of themselves as just 'average'. Reader of course will see that this character isn't average, we get to be in with the storyline, we get many informations than the characters themselves don't get. Obviously the characters aren't 'average' since they have a story about them told.

If the readers see the word average and drop a story, that's their lost tbh. There's probably more to the story than just that word, or maybe the author just use the word to describe a character then put a different spins on it later *shrug*.

Most of the time I just use and take the word 'average' as sarcasm when I see it lol, so it didn't really bother me much.
