the tragedy of being a pillar is that there is often no one around to support you, and that is exactly the dichotomy oh bitgaram finds himself plagued by. he can't cry, he can't complain, he can't get frustrated and walk out of practice like the others can but when he feels these needs, they just don't disappear because he can't show them. bitgaram lives in fear that one day he won't be able to control himself and say things that will truly hurt people, and so he's constantly running in a hypervigilant state. he takes on the burdens of others, but he never wants to open up about his own troubles. although bitgaram is friendly and caring, he's happiest when he's on his own. he has a hard time opening up to people so while he knows a bunch about them, they know little about him. it's a defense mechanism for himself, "if they don't know my emotions, they can't hurt me and i can stay in control". bitgaram's standards for himself and others are incredibly high. with others, he can make exceptions based on circumstance, but he never shows himself the same mercy. he checks his work, checks again, and then checks again to make sure there's no other ways he can improve, and that takes a toll on him when he's composing and takes a toll on others when he's producing. he'll make someone repeat the same line upwards of 50 times until it's perfect. bitgaram often works through hunger and sleep and illness by trying to perfect something, be it his line delivery, or his choreography, or his expression. he actually gets mad when people compliment something that he feels isn't good enough. it's easy to say that oh bitgaram allows people to overtake him. he follows those in charge without question, and never goes against their desires. he's a thorough rule-follower and nags others into following the rules too. despite the warmth he radiates, people can't help but notice that bitgaram often looks sad. he sometimes gets into this certain headspace where he zones out and needs to be on his own. a lot of people like bitgaram, and value his input on many things. bitgaram knows this, and he may or may not use that fact to twist an outcome into something he wants. he often takes that fact for granted and expects complete compliance from people, and gets fairly upset when they don't adhere to that. in turn, bitgaram proceeds to guilt whoever isn't listening to him.
BACKGROUND
oh bitgaram is born the second of four children to not the greatest parents. they were indifferent at best, and neglectful at worst, often leaving bitgaram's older sister, danbi, to look after the rest of her siblings while they worked and did other things. bitgaram didn't want to burden her as he got older, so he began helping her out. things like keeping his younger siblings out of her hair so she could study, running to the convience store to get her pads when she got her period, cooking dinner while she helped their younger siblings with homework. it was incredibly rough on him, what with school and his dance classes, but it was also hard on danbi as well, especially as she got older.
his sister got pregnant when she was 20 and bitgaram was 15. for the longest time, bitgaram was the only person she told about it. and bitgaram did his best to support danbi through it. he went to her doctor appointments with her and got a part time job to help her afford the stuff she needed. but eventually their parents found out after about two month and were furious, their dad to the point where he almost hit danbi. bitgaram stopped him, but their parents still kicked danbi out of the house. and since bitgaram was an "accomplace" with hiding her pregnancy, they gave him the choice to either leave with her or stay with them and be grounded for eternity.
bitgaram chose his sister, and after a few months of living in a ty ocktabbang in gwanju, they managed to save up enough money to move to a ty ocktabbang in seoul. bitgaram transferred schools, and his sister transferred jobs. and a few months after that, danbi gave birth to the smallest little bean oh bitgaram had ever seen in his life, oh yena. and for the next four or so years, it was just the three of them making the best of their situation. bitgaram went to school, and he worked a part time job, then he'd babysit yena while danbi got ready for her third shift job. for his 18th birthday, danbi paid for dance lessons for bitgaram. at first he refused because they were expensive classes, but she insisted because "i make enough money to do this for you now" and "you've had to sacrifice so much for me".
and it was after his first dance lesson in nearly five years that bitgaram realized just how much he loved it, how much it gave his life meaning, how much it allowed him to not worry about others for a while. before his high school graduation, danbi bought him a beer and they drank together. she asked him what it was he wanted to do with his life.
"i... don't know,"
"aye~, come on bibi! if you could do absolutely anything in the world, what would it be?"
"i guess i would be a dancer."
"a dancer, huh? that makes sense. it always makes me happy seeing you dance. idol dancer or professional?"

as a member of one of the first batches of bbc trainees, bitgaram was met with a very kind and close-knit staff. they nurtured his already-there talents with dancing, and sought to cultivate his rap and vocal skills. in fact, the company taught bitgaram everything he knew about rapping. the company actually sought his input on what he wanted to learn and allowed him to study the things he wanted, like music composition and producing. no matter what bitgaram took on, he always tried his best to be well-prepared.
