Do you remember the first scene in spirited away? there is a rumor, that they wrote it on naeuns experience. Moving from seoul to this, whatever ty hicksville place is seriously the stupidest her parent could ever come up with. She hated them for that. Taking her out of her school, her life and just thinking that it's totally okay to decide and completly change her life. She was 8 at that time and her mother wanted to move back to her hometown.
Naeun nevertheless was welcomed and immediatly invited by a group of friends in school. They apperantly liked her and wanted to give her a chance even though she's always been a brat to them. They played it off as being new to the school and not being able to adept to the new city, but with time they just realised, that it is her personality. Naeun was the last one to join the clique.
After her father went back to the millitary it was only her and her mother at home. after some time they recieved a phone call. Her father had been in a secret mission to save some hostages held by north korea and was hurt in the process. The hostages vere saved but her father died later on the way to the hospital. That was the moment where her family fell apart. her father left a big hole in her mothers chest. She knew that he had always been in danger and died while protecting his country and saving people, but she never was the same again. She only existed. She wouldn't smile, talk or do anything. naeun wanted to yell at her, tell her to get a hold of herself, that she too lost a parent and didn't want to lose another, but seeing her mother like this broke her heart.
Like this, naeun had to grow up instantly. At the age of 15 she had lost both mother and father and was now in charge of herself. Rumors in town spread like a deadly disease and everyone was talking about naeun, who became so tough because her parents weren't able to care for her.
