BACKGROUND
shim chorong's life has been pretty simple so far. she was born in daegu on june 10th and has been an only child her whole life. her parents worked a lot during the day, so she would always go over to her aunt and uncle's house to be babysat, and hang out with her older cousin. her cousin introduced her to hip-hop at a young age.
she adored her cousin, and wanted to be as cool as he was and rap like he did, and so hip-hop became her life. at school, boys would tell her that rap wasn't for girls, and the chorong would get upset and cry until the teacher made them take their words back. she'd spend lunch breaks writing raps while shoving rolls of kimbap in . during talent shows she would perform "Chorong's Original Raps™", and nothing could quite compare to the way she felt when she performed on stage, even if it was just for a bunch elementary schoolers.
when her cousin moved to seoul in 2010 at age 17 to become an idol, chorong decided she wanted to be an idol too. her parents were against it initially, and put her in dance classes to try and satisfy her without giving in to her request to be an idol "at such a young age". it worked for a while but when shim chorong was 14, after her cousin and his boygroup officially debuted, she once again told her parents she wanted to be an idol.
seeing as how her cousin made it in the industry, they allowed chorong to audition for yg entertainment. she made it in and was over the moon. the training was long and arduous. there was talk about yg debuting a girl group around that time, and chorong grew more and more frustrated as the debut date kept getting pushed back and her prospect of being part of the group grew smaller and smaller in favor of big trainees like jennie kim and lydia paek. and one day, she was called into yg's office to talk about how she was no longer a contender for the group, and chorong declared that she was leaving the company. yg reminded chorong of her contract, how she had four more years left before she could leave, but chorong didn't care. she told yg to just hit her with the fine because "i don't wanna be at a company that doesn't see my worth".
after her meltdown, her parents wanted her to come home and give up the idol dream, but being the stubborn girl she is, chorong refused. instead, she auditioned at brand new music entertainment and was taken under the label's wings. there, her passion for hip-hop and rap truly blossomed, and she was able to hone her skills in rap and dance in a more authentic way than over at yg. but a year had come and passed and chorong still wasn't in a different position. she was still a trainee, she was still nowhere closer to debut. so once again, in chorong fashion, she left the company. although this time, brand new music was slightly more forgiving than yg.
chorong's parents forced her to take up a job in addition to school and training in order to help pay off the debt that she ed upon them with her impulsive decisions. she got a job at a barbeque place where she worked for 5 hours after school. chorong then auditioned for cube entertainment, who looked past her previous track record and accepted her. there, they focused more on her image training and improving her vocals. with being a trainee added to her schedule, chorong only slept about 1-2 hours a night at most. the strain became too much for her and her performance began slipping and she gained a lot of weight, causing cube to terminate her contract.
she was heartbroken, but then she heard of produce 101 auditions. she registered for the show as an independent trainee. chorong was placed in a classes but she hardly got any screentime on the show and didn't get many votes. as a result, she was eliminated in "episode 4" but it was actually earlier than that because you know shows air a bit earlier.

RELATIONSHIPS

despite their of 6 years, chorong and yoongi are incredibly close. they essentially grew up together in daegu, and he'd always watch over her. he sparked her interest in hip hop by sharing his headphones with her when they'd go to the park or when she'd spend the night over at his house. there were many times when he'd do something stupid and dangerous, and chorong would follow without hesitation. yoongi would often be tasked with babysitting chorong. they grew up doing pretty much everything together and were inseperable during min family gatherings.
they know everything about each other, from how weird they can be to all their embarrassing stories. he never judges her, and chorong knows she can always go to him when she needs something. she always acts super cute around him because she's his little vitamin. once bangtan started bringing in the big bucks, he paid off all her debt from her previous companies, and he even introduced her to bighit entertainment. they mostly message each other on kkt and facetime each other. chorong asks for yoongi's input on her raps when he has free time, but he only complies if the rap she's working on isn't for trainee evaluation. one of her wishes through debuting is to be able to spend more time with yoongi in public, going shopping and out to eat.

same-age friends who grew up in the same neighborhood. when chorong and jiwon come together, it's a dangerously fun match, they're always causing some sort of trouble together. they'll sneak out at night and do lame tourist things and pretend they have no clue about anything in seoul. when they both have days off, they'll catch a train down to daegu and visit each other's families. whenever chorong bakes, jiwon is her assitant chef in charge of decorating. they buy each other couple items and take couple pics and honestly, at this point in their friendship, they're practically dating. they exchange dramatic declarations of love, swear to forever and ever protect each other's maidenhood and honor, and are always attached to each others like otters.
chorong and jiwon text pretty much all the time when they're not together and they're both the type to like octuple text if they don't get a reply right away. despite their fighting, they still talk about profound and serious things. existential things like their purposes in life and what they would do if the world was ending in that very moment. they know things without really having to say anything. chorong's the only one who jiwon'll talk about being homesick with and she's the only one chorong talks about her feelings of never being able to reach her own expectations with.

to say shim chorong dislikes raquelle would be an understatement. raquelle had been a presence in shim chorong's life for years, starting in their time together at yg. the older girl wasn't even that good of a rapper, and yet bang-pd adored her! and so did yg, which became evident as raquelle beat chorong out as a contender for pink punk's lineup. it's because she's pretty chorong fumes. to shim chorong, raquelle is everything she hates in a person, getting through life on her looks alone. raquelle can't dance as well as chorong can, can't sing as well as chorong can and yet she's more cherished than chorong is by bang-pd, and by yoongi.
raquelle fills chorong with white hot jealousy as she threatens chorong's pride as a rapper, no, as a person. and that threat to chorong's essence is what stemmed bighit's biggest, ugliest rivalry. they glare at each other, they're stiff around one another. chorong gets upset because raquelle's existance is not fair to her and so, being the wildly emotional teenage girl she is, she lashes out. they fight and scream at one another, all instigated by chorong because chorong can't handle and comprehend the fact that she can't always be the best. and the way raquelle can brush her aside and dismiss her because she's so small makes her even more resentful. it also doesn't help that her beloved cousin has a soft sport for miss rap buddha. he's supposed to be on chorong's side, after all! on camera, they play it off as a "tom and jerry couple", or an exasperated mom with her bratty daughter.
to say shim chorong despises raquelle would be partially incorrect. chorong's main issue with raquelle is more of a deep seated insecurity, a reflection on how delicate chorong's sense of self is. raquelle keeps chorong on her a game, if only because she wants to one up raquelle. she makes chorong work harder than she typically does. in order for the two to reconcile, chorong needs a lot of growing up to do.
