PROLOGUE

Jongin should’ve known that it was only beneficial for him to escape if he was actually not ignorant about the structure of the city. The last time he had gone to the city was when he was seven years old – or was it eight? – and to his pure devastation, the city had changed throughout the years of him being confined in the mansion.

It wasn’t him being nostalgic; it was actually the fact that the changes had made it difficult for him to figure out the way that he should go through. He had spent fifteen minutes contemplating and thinking about the right path which would lead him to the merchant guy who was widely known as the best merchant who sold the highest quality items. Potions, books, equipments, weapons or anything – you could say it; the man had them all.

In Jongin’s case, he really wanted a potion to give him the ability to control his hunger, even for just a few days. He didn’t really like the idea of him feeding and risking himself to get caught, again. That was the last thing that he wanted to happen. He at least wanted to find a good hideout to secure himself from the people who would not hesitate to eliminate him in no time and work something out. Like what he could do to support his living and to disguise himself, as instant examples.

That reminded him to quickly make up his mind and figure out what was the correct path to the merchant’s hut.

“Where is it?” he asked himself while lingering his eyes around the place. His mind couldn’t recall the exact path and he only got frustrated in the end.

He hesitated for a while before he put his hand against the wall, wishing that it was indeed the correct path that will lead him to the merchant’s hut. He put both of his hands against the wall while closing his eyes in anticipation and he closed them tighter as he could feel the burning sensation against the thin layer of his hands but he kept his eyes closed, afraid that he would be too shaken to study the exact occurring.

Jongin felt it. He felt how his hands were being into the wall and how the sense of air on his wrists was fading as they were slowly being in as well. It was slow and steady, and Jongin was still closing his eyes until his nose made a contact with the wall. A strange, unpleasant smell hit him right in his sense and he immediately opened his eyes, only to find himself facing the wall.

His breath was slowly taken as his nose got deeper into the wall and he struggled to keep himself composed as he could feel himself getting suffocated. He only had the privilege to experience this when he was seven, but he knew that this wasn’t the how it should be. It should feel natural for him. It shouldn’t damage his body system like this. He wasn’t supposed to feel nauseous when the last of his hair got into the wall.

His mind lost its control as he disappeared completely from the atmosphere and he began thinking about how pointless his escape was.

**

“A vampire!” the boy exclaimed and before Jongin knew it, he fell into a deep slumber again as the gibberish words from the boy were heard.
