35 Questions for AFF Authors...

So I inevitably got bored for the night after hours of studying so I decided to get back to my AFF and came across OnceUponAnEXO's profile here and my, the question tags are awesome for tonight! I'm tagging captainlimthemarchionessGoddesskyofreeverse34timikoclover899winter_beauty and every author who reads this tag!

1. How did you come up with your user name and what does it mean?

michminorities is a pseudonym I came up for myself, since despite being comfortable in writing, I still lack confidence in my work, probably caused by people who go through my journals and diaries back then and they finally know about my secrets. Hence, minorities. It's a sub-feeling that is born alongside my writing.

My real name sounds like 'michelle' when the first letters of my name are joined together, so some people would joke around, calling me mich instead.

2. Which is your most subscribed to story?

Battle Scars currently has 1001 subscribers! (Thank you to the people who found this promising ^^)

3. Why did you pick your user photo/thumbnail?

I chose it since it was a split-second moment of something beautiful: my ship looking and smiling at each other. (And it's awesome how Hye Kyo turned back without knowing him looking at her <3)

4. Who is your AFF bestie?

If I were to define 'bestie' as someone you constantly chat in the personal messages section, then it would be aloha_jenica and freeverse34. <3

5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?

themarchioness' fanfics!! Every single one of them is beautiful and poignant--basically everything rolled up in one convenient sushi. Tbh, it was this author's fics which inspired me to create an AFF account and become a writer.

6. How many stories are you subscribed to?

I'm currently subscribed to 20 on this account, which makes all my story subscriptions 47!

7. What AU do you find yourself writing about most?

If we're talking about michminorities, I've only written stories revolving around the characters in DOTS, so I don't deviate that much on their characters. However, I have made a few AUs for them; one is in the historical setting back in the Joseon Dynasty (or what people would call as a sageuk), and I'm also currently working on a modern AU with an interplay of music in the story. (it's a giveaway hehe. please look forward to this story!)

However, if we're not talking mainly about AFF, I'm fond of writing School AUs, since I'm a er for highschool fantasies and twitterpatedness, i have no idea why HAHA

8. How many friends do you have?

50 (and counting!!!)

9. Is there something you'd like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)

Actually, I wanted to write something which relates to my real life story. I'm just afraid because I might be too obvious that people would recognize that it was actually me writing it, since I know a lot of my friends are here on AFF, who turns out to be DOTS fans, and surprisingly are subscribed to my stories.

So I try not to put that in mind and just focus on making stories far from my personal endeavors for the sake of security hahahaha

10. Is there anything you would like to be better at on AFF? Writing, graphic design (posters), replying to comments, updating regularly, etc..?

I would definitely want to be better in updating friggin regularly. :(((

But of course, it wouldn't harm trying different stuff! Aside from improving on my writing, I also am interested in graphic design :D

11. How many subscribers do you have?

Unique Subscriptions: 1653

Total Subscriptions: 3781

12. How many stories have you posted online to this day (finished and unfinished)?

Currently, I have 8. There, I've posted 7 fanfics on my AFF account wherein 6 are already finished, and the latest one, In Another Life, is still ongoing, albeit nearing its end.

There's one which has not been visible to the public yet, since I'm slowly working on it ^^

13. How many stories do you have saved in your writing program?

uhhh...what is a writing program? HAHAHA

14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?

TBH. The story ideas come in fragmented, piece by piece. I can't sew details automatically, which is why I write everything down once it comes into mind. Like I don't care if I'm already dozing off to bed when it comes in; I literally get up and take my pen and jot things down. Legit.

15. Have you ever co-authored a story?

No, I have not.

..

..

But I would love to!

16. How did you discover AFF?

I actually discovered it from one of my friends who loves DOTS and kdrama just as much as I do. She loves recommending me fics, so I read all the way and made an account for myself. After sometime, I had this stirring inside of me, telling me to give it a shot at writing.

So now, I still continue to write and my friend doesn't know she's reading my story HAAH

17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author on AFF?

Nope. I'm just plain ordinary tbh I'm quite laid-back and simple. :) hit me up and we'll hit the beach together!

18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?

what?? no!!! I also don't think that's a good idea, I guess....

19. Was there an AFF author who inspired or encouraged you to write?

I mentioned the AFF author back at #5! It's actually themarchioness

Subjectively, her writing style fits my comprehension. I guess it just clicked and I was able to appreciate fanfics once I got to read all her fics. It was an indirect inspiration I got from her, since she did not encourage me to write directly, but the impact was strong and I thank her for that. She's really brilliant, and I wish to read more from her, whether patterned from DOTS or not.

It's sad she's not that active nowadays (probably semi-hiatus, i don't know). I miss her. Awww.

20. How many karma points do you have?

4100 points

21. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?

1. Be inspired, and stay inspired. Writing never comes without an idea. There's got to be something that would motivate you to get your hands moving the pen against paper. Once you get it, let it stay.

2. Mistakes are inevitable, but they are avenues for improvement. It is normal to find yourself stuck and tangled in difficulties, and oftentimes, people would comment their thoughts on your story. Just be open to suggestions and advices; I don't think anyone here in AFF gives irresponsible reviews (this is to the extent of what I know in this site), so just be open and permeable to these constructive criticisms. They'll help you improve tons.

3. You can't please anyone, and you don't have to. Sometimes, you'll find yourself holding back an idea for your story because of the fear you would lose support from your readers and they'll think you dropped an atomic bomb on top of a beautiful 100-storey building, like everything you've worked hard for was destroyed. But after about a year of writing here, I learned that we have to prioritize the plot. If a certain element or a variable advances your story to what you think is how you want the story to go, then do it. At the end of the day, you are the author of your story, and readers are only there to watch you reveal it to them. They will learn how to appreciate it later on.

4. Take a break too. I'm not saying you stop writing. It is equally essential for writers to pause for a while and recover. Explore books. Read more. Do chores. Find ideas in everything you do. :)

5. Be humble and kind. Never let your writing take you to heights wherein all you think of is yourself and your characters. Don't do it. It's lonely up there. Always find time to socialize, be humble with every comment your readers make, accept their praises and their suggestions wholeheartedly. You can only receive when the hands are open. :)

22. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?

Okay, well it's a case to case basis. Sometimes I plot it out, and sometimes I don't haha. But I think currently what I've been doing is to begin with the ending, and then work things back from the start and then I figure out what happens in between. :)

23. Have you ever gotten a bad review or comment on a story? If so, what did you do?

So far... I have not accepted such comments yet. I think certain readers are just pushing their own suggestions for the story, but I understand them for it. It's not a bad comment, at least that is how I perceive it to be.

24. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, , etc..)

OH YES.

I'm always uncomfortable in writing the romantic, y, steamy scenes (especially in Battle Scars since that was my first time ever to write stuff). I try to address it by reading sample love scenes from books and try to figure out how I do not become awkward lol

25. What story(s) are you working on now?

I'm currently working on In Another Life, chapter 24 up to its end (which I don't know what chapter it would end yet). I seem to enjoy writing the story since I love sageuk. It's so picturesque in my mind. :)

Apart from that, I'm also working on a new fic

26. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?

Yup! The new fic I have been talking about ever since!!!! HAHA

27. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?

Actually I don't.

And I think having a writing goal is a good idea :0 I should do this.

28. Do you think you've improved as a writer since you first started?

Definitely, yes. :) At first, I remember myself feeling satisfied and content with my first fic, but after a few fics made, I looked back and cringed at it, like how was I even comfortable with this in the first place??!!

The improvement was big.

29. What is your favorite story that you've written?

I have a few faves: Battle Scars, When in Albania, and In Another Life

30. What is your least favorite story that you've written?

I don't have a least favorite, I guess. I treat my stories like my children lol

31. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?

Still here in AFF, chilling and writing stuff!

32. How many upvotes do you have?

71

33. What is the easiest thing about writing?

The interesting ideas just keeps on popping in your mind!

34. What is the hardest thing about writing?

Putting those ideas into words... :<

35. Why do you write?

I write, because readers exist.

HAHAHA. But yeah, in all seriousness, I write because I know that there are people like me who still wants an alternate plot of their favorite characters. Some would have wanted things this way, and some that way, and I wish to satisfy that desire of those who would want to read it for themselves. I write based on the 'what if's placed in my mind. I write becasue there are still many who believe in SSC. I write, simply because it's a dream I would like to keep on achieving.
