Personality. 

Insecure, Negative, and Judgemental /// Shin Ae grew up under a lot of pressure, and she's lived up to none of it. And so she's become very insecure about herself and her own abilites. She knows she can sing, but she also 'knows' that she's no good for anything else and so she never tries to improve. She instead spends time pitying herself and comparing herself to others, only decreasing her confidence levels. However, this comparison hobby of hers extends past herself and onto others as well. Shin Ae is always comparing people to each other, noticing everyone's failings and not just her own. She remains content in her rut so long as she believes that everyone else is as much of a failure as she is, and she's quite good at convincing herself of that.

Imaginative, Sensitive, and Patient /// Shin Ae has a big imagination. She's a master of looking at something and developing and entire world around it. Unfortunately, due to her love of making everything negative, her imagination is used as a weapon against herself and her relationships. She blows things out of proportion, and takes things very seriously even if they were meant in jest. There's no such thing as a small matter for Shin Ae and she reacts to everything in excess. This can go two ways, as altough this does make her negative reactions worse, her joy is much more animated for smaller situations as well. That isn't to say that Shin Ae has a temper though. In fact, Shin Ae is generally a rather quite person. She's resigned herself to the 'way things are' and so she has seemingly infinte patience with every sort of situation. You can't make Shin Ae fall apart externally because she's already torn herself up quite thoroughly internally. So while she takes everything to heart, she keeps it all locked up inside and lets the world do as it pleases around her.

Private and Selfish /// Her preference for locking away her thoughts and emotions has rendered Shin Ae a mysterious figure. She does speak when spoken to, but she never reveals anything about her personal life or thoughts to anyone. In her mind, as long as no one really knows how she's feeling, then they can never really understand her and she can remain content knowing that she's alone in the world and no one cares about her. She manipulates her own thoughts to revolve entirely around herself, while simeultaneously pushing blame for her problems out onto everyone else around her. And she never takes time to think that those people have their own problems as well. Shin Ae lives in the center of her own universe, and her life is the only important one in that world.

Background. 

Jo Kwan and Sun Young were two of the very first SM trainees in 1995, and they were both getting ready for debuts when they started dating. Shin Ae was an accident. Her mother was only 18 when she got pregnant and she had to drop out of school and out of training at SM Entertainment to take care of Shin Ae. Her dad had to drop out of SM too since they had to get married to cover up the pregnancy, and SM didn't want a married idol. They moved away to Busan as soon as Jo Kwan graduated high school because they didn't want to live in the city that reminded them of their crushed dreams. But Shin Ae still reminded them about it since her existence was the reason for it. They don't love each other anymore at all, but they see Shin Ae as a sort of combined project that they're working on together, so they tolerate each other mostly. And they can't get divorced because of their religion.

They decided to live out their dreams through Shin Ae instead. They were both singers so they gave her lots of voice lessons from when she was just three years old all the way to when she was 10. She started auditioning for lots of entertainment companies in 2006, but she didn't get in anywhere because everyone said she didn't have the "right look" for an idol. Neither of her parents had needed any surgery so they were upset by the comments and said that obviously the judges were blind and stupid. In late 2007 Big Bang's song "Lies" came out and put YG on the charts. Her parents were very quick to have Shin Ae audition for YG and she was accepted. From the age of 11 to 14 she trained hard with YG, but in a company that favored rappers and dancers she didn't do very well. She was continuously passed over for project groups and kept being told it was because she needed to be more "versatile". And while focusing on trying to be a better dancer or rapper she ended up falling into bad habits with her singing. Her parents ended up pulling her out of the company when they realized she was getting worse and no closer to a debut.

Shin Ae spent a year retraining her voice with her parents, although some of her technique had been scrubbed out by YG's training, and then it was back to auditioning. Her mom suggested Jellyfish entertainment because she really liked Park Hyo Shin, and Jo Kwan figured it couldn't hurt. When Shin Ae got in there was a big fight at home whether she should accept the offer or not, but ultimately Sun Young won and Shin Ae started training again at 15. She liked Jellyfish well enough, better than YG anyway, and the vocal coaching was significantly better so she didn't get worse like she had at YG. She was still considered too young to debut so they focused on trying to improve her other skills, like variety and acting. She flopped hard in both, and she ended up giving up very quickly, not wanting it to become like YG again where everyone said she wasn't talented enough. She ended up leaving the company by herself a bit before she turned 17 because she wasn't getting anywhere. She didn't tell her parents.

Luckily for Shin Ae, she was scouted shortly after by Plan A Entertainment when one of their scouts heard her singing aloud on her way to school. Her parents weren't happy when they found out about her switching companies, but because Plan A had promised her a debut with APink they couldn't be too upset. At least not until that promised debut never came.

   Trivia

Likes. 

– Ballads, particularly when she's singing them
– Cuddles (from people she knows well)
– Rain. She takes "Singing in the Rain" very seriously
– Reading. Her favorite genre is fantasy but she'll read anything you put in her hands
– Being onstage. It's an ego boost for anyone to hear cheering, but especially for her

Dislikes.

– Skinship from people she doesn't know well
– Loud noises, she has really sensitive hearing
– Large bugs. Small ones she can squish but she'll run screaming from the bigger ones
– Broken promises. No matter how small it is, her trust is gone forever
– TWICE. She considers them ridiculously untalented and abhors that they're popular with their "total crap" songs when someone like her with way more talent (in her opinion) can't even get a debut. Of course she'd never say this on camera but it's probably pretty obvious to anyone watching her around TWICE.

Habits and Hobbies.

– She does vocal excercises in the shower
– She sleeps curled up in a ball
– She's constantly checking that her phone is in her purse

Trivia.

– She can't sleep alone during thunderstorms
– She keeps a diary and likes writing down her dreams, story ideas, and lyrics in it
– She's allergic to fur
– Her ideal type is someone quiet who she can tell anything to
– She wrote a few short stories when she was in high school. She's too embarrassed by them to show anyone but she wants to write another one someday
– Although she had been questioning whether she want to be an idol at all around the time the show recriutment began, she's really driven to win
– She becomes a major stage diva during performances once she realizes how awesome it is to hear people cheering for her. She's still rather awkward on variety shows though
– Originally her stagename was Hanae, but when someone realized it sounded like the English word 'Honey' she decided to go by that instead.

How do you feel about being chosen to represent your label on Princess?
I'm honored to be here.

Do you think you can win against the other girls?
I'm confident in my vocals. Hopefully it will be enough to get me to the top.

What do you think your charm point is?
My singing.

I hope you will support me. I have been working or this for a very long time and want to use this chance to the fullest.
