if there's something to note about the way noma dresses, it's that he's always so well put together. never catch him with a crease on that pristine-ironed button-up shirt, tucked in with utmost perfection, never a crooked tie. his uniform is inching towards being too small for his growing body, exposed wrists at the cut of his blazer and an unintentional cropped leg of his pants that exposes the black of his socks. despite wearing his uniform to absolute perfection, there's only so much you can do with outgrowing your clothes and rips and stains that can't exactly be mended. grandma sews together the hole on his sweater as he expertly ties the tie around his neck, sliding it up flush on his skin.
step outside of dugong for a second, and seeing noma not in his uniform is kind of shocking. he's quite the casual guy and likes to wear t-shirts and an average pair of jeans. and it's okay to assume that this isn't particularly his style, but moreso what he can afford. tattered nike sneakers and thick wind breakers. plaid scarfs that he digs half his face into.

and it's definitely no secret within the dugong high cohort that noma has the tendency of being a little foul-mouthed; much without his own realization. and it's these boorish words that have landed him this tag, much to his dismay. often mumbled after a string of indecorous remarks flit from the borders of his lips, an on-looker would click their tongue and tell him to stop. it was quickly coined by his high school classmates as noma's notoriety seems to follow him anywhere he goes, a chorus of sing-song words saying 'no-ma, no more!' like some sort of curse lifting mantra. if anything, it leaves noma rolling his eyes at the infantile nature of it all, unwilling to participate in the mob-like behaviour. however, time after time, it has resulted in noma grasping at the weight of his calloused words and retracting back into his seat.
thankfully, however, this nickname hasn't particularly transferred over to café marguerite; with noma holding his cover of being stoic, yet somewhat soft, and welcoming.

in conjunction with noma's unfavourable words, he's got an impressive resting face. don't be fooled by the baby-fat that just never disappeared from his cheeks after puberty; that face will not crack the slightest smile. there's even been a moment or two when people have asked if noma even knows how to smile or laugh (in which he responds with a monosyllabic yes, without cracking a chuckle or grin, of course).
however, see noma at work at the café and things become incredibly amusing. customer service is noma's forte and that smile comes to good use — turns out, he wasn't lying, he can smile and it wouldn't be a lie to say it looks incredibly becoming on him.

✩°｡⋆ doesn't really have friends at dugong at all. occasionally speaks to a student here or there, and hyunwoo would talk to him here and there. he's not really there to make friends. despite the fact that most of them have known him since elementary, he's not close. hyunwoo is probably his closest friend. although seldomly, occasionally, they'll eat lunch together.
✩°｡⋆ his 'fake customer service' persona wasn't always as refined as it is now. he had always struggled with connecting with other people, but upon repeated practice and exposure to the general public through his part-time jobs, the façade has become rather rock solid. his technique is really to just zone out of his usual being and act. while he probably doesn't know it or won't admit it, having positive human contact improves his mood a whole lot. it allows him to still feel social connection, but keep his own life under wraps with people who actually know him.

hyunwoo: one time, i walked into this bakery that noma works at and it was like, a whole-new-noma. at one point, i thought, hm... did he get cloned? a nicer, smilier clone... and that clone replaced him?! it's a possibility, right? he spoke to me like i was a stranger, and he even cracked a joke! about bread! i walked out with my red-bean bun like... who is...that...!! i'd never seen him so nice or talkative! so then the next day, i went to go talk to him at school, and he was back to the same old stone-faced ma-chan. what is going on? no one can be that good at customer service, right?!
i've seen ma-chan talk to teachers and stuff, and he's nice and formal, but usually doesn't say much. but this, this was a whole new world. like? i don't get it! he's usually just so— [cut for length]
CHARACTER it's always been a luxury to have the feeling of hunger being fully satiated. mom and dad was always working. it was always just me and gran. things weren't the greatest, but noma found the company of his grandmother to always be warm. however, three years ago, noma's parents couldn't afford to keep taking care of his grandmother anymore, and with noma entering high school, things were turning out to be difficult. and so they sent her to a nursing home. she's been there ever since. whilst noma technically lives with his mother and father, they are always working to support themselves and noma, so really, it's like he lives alone.
currently, besides attending school and after-school tutoring (as he's currently preparing to enter university for a course in nursing), noma has one other part-time job at a bakery. he works there in the morning on weekends (when they do major baking and prep) until about twelve in the afternoon. after that, he visits his grandma at the nursing facility, without fail.
in the past, with other part-time jobs, noma would leave after spending an hour or two with his grandma and come back after his shift. noma has always been hopping from part-time job to part-time job to be able to eat and afford luxuries (i.e. food, clothing, video games). some of them don't last all too long, hence his longer list of past work experiences.
occasionally, he ends up staying there the entire weekend, having to bring his school supplies with him on sundays so he can bike to school from the home. basically everyone knows him there and they all adore him. he 100% plans on working there after he gets his nursing qualifications.
any free time is spent playing video games. free time, however, is not abundant.

like many a boss in noma's life time; noma would quietly respect and follow any orders given from delia. as much mystery that delia carries, it provokes a sort of curiosity in most, however, for noma, he tends to just sit back and keep to himself, even if he notices anything a little strange. when it came to magic, he instantly felt like it was some sort of burden, however, a sort of loyalty had developed. there's a mutual trust between the two, mainly because, although the position of cashier was what noma had initially applied for, he added 'assistant' in, just for a little extra. in a weird twist of things, noma had moved from always being on the cashier, to doing little errands for delia, as it seems his uninterested and rather meticulous traits were perfect for delia — someone who kept a lot of secrets. to this day, noma cannot believe he's involved in magic, he's intrigued but he doesn't meddle when he isn't asked to. that's something delia definitely treasures in the kid. 'delia? she's a good boss. she's nice.'
