a rather multi-purpose nickname, to serve as a derivation from a variety of words. most obviously, a quick alternative to blake, but less obviously (these versions being more known to the hallux crew themselves and her surrounding acquaintances and peers) shortenings for , or badass. go ahead, take your pick.
"you know, people don't just call you bee because your name is blake," sage chimes in observation as blake snarks a group of freshman to get out of her way 'or suffer'.
blake however, piques at this immediately; always having an inkling about her presences and the image it projects. "i know, it's nice and witty because it can also stand for beautiful, busy, badass, brilliant, blessed, bewitching..."

GRANNY
twenty-four and still a senior? yup, that's blake. amongst being indecisive with career paths, self-doubt and overall disdain for education, blake has to be one of the older few in the hallux crew, seeing as most people would just do what they need to do and jet. being twenty-four amongst a boat-load of youngins (and some twenty-three year olds) grants her the nickname of granny. nothing other than her age points toward this playful alias but nevertheless, it sticks. she's not particularly a fan.
"who called me granny? i heard it. stand up. fight me. i'm not that ing old." she's turning her head left and right, shooting narrow-eyed stares at the other crew members who were innocently minding their own business. her hands are balled into fists, finger nails digging into palms.
seth attempts to be the voice of reason, a gentle hand placed on her shoulder; making blake flinch before turning to face him, "it was no one, blake,"
she shoots that same squinted glare at seth and he averts his gaze away for a second and clears his throat, "besides, the nickname's kind of a compliment, isn't it?" blake isn't particularly liking the direction his words are going but she continues listening for a second before she spills the bucket of rebuttals building in her head.
"you're old, okay, but that means you can impart your wisdom on us," seth nods, staring right at blake and she slowly nods along. "with all your intelligence and experiences, being old is a good thing."
"huh, you're right. thanks seth."

SUMMARY intense. blake's the sort of person who, when she finds something she's passionate about, will dive in, head first and chug at it with vigor. a murky grey emanates, with pouted lips, stitched eyebrows and a resting face that could put anyone to shame; it's not wrong to assume blake to be a bit of a handful to handle. quick to snark when something is out of place, and hell of a lot quicker to snap when opinions cross and anger bubbles. whilst blake knows the meaning of a friendly argument or an accident, anyone who might outwardly be wronging her won't be able to sit comfortably in her proximity. forgive and forget? no, resent and remember. but blake's intensity is not only centered around her negative emotions, elation and delight heightens when she finds something she approves or appreciates. blake will speak with an overflowing heart and the goofiest grin on her face. graceless and indelicate, blake isn't careful with her words or her actions; often being labelled 'edgy' as she isn't afraid to speak her mind with a surfeit of rugged words. she sure isn't afraid to dance on the street or run amok in excitement, either.

DAILY SCHEDULE fourth year in a medical degree entails a lot of individual work, including projects and rotations. lectures aren't weekly, nor are classes. she finds herself making several appointments with her advisor every month to discuss thesis work, clinical work and extra commitments.
monday, wednesday: 8am to 6pm, clinical rotation at medical imaging department of ucla's private hospital.
thursday: 9am to 2pm, paid internship at ucla simulation center, assisting in the course teaching, setup and paperwork.
tuesday: 10am to 5pm, practicum thesis study. these hours vary, includes the meetings with her advisor and lots of individual study/writing time in which she sits in the campus library for the majority of the day.
friday, saturday, sunday: free.
EXTRA on some fridays, blake attends the food appreciation society meetings — mostly when she wants to see if anyone had discovered any good new places she can drag her friends to — and the lgbtq+ society. additionally, on other free days, blake volunteers at the local animal shelter and will volunteer at several other events that advocate lgbtq+ and animal rights.
blake's life seems... busy, however, in comparison to her earlier years, with volunteering, classes, internships and work, blake had barely a minute to spare. now that she has settled well into her clinical rotations and interships, she finds the lack of classes or lectures and the lack of need to study content gives blake much more free time to use at her leisure.
blake lives in a single unit dorm, in which she is desperately saving money to move out of before she graduates. she lives in the same complex as sage and will often duck over to hang out and the both of them might even go laze around in seth's apartment, especially when there are parties in the general vicinity that she does not want to attend.
when blake is free, she's always out and about. dragging different friends to her favourite food spaces that she swears is a 4.8/5 on yelp and has an entire handmade pasta menu that is to die for. she also loves the city life and shopping for clothing items she really can't afford. blake is never really in the same spot, when she sits still for too long, restlessness overcomes and the snarkiness overrides any of her speech patterns. so if you see blake sitting in the library on her laptop at ten at night on a tuesday, it's best to back away and talk to her some other time.

FOOD
as her instagram might reveal, blake is a major foodie. any restaurant that has been featured on insider or hypebeast that's within travelling distance, you can be sure that she's trekked her way out there to indulge. blake also has a blog (called eatblakeat.blogspot.com) in which she writes about her food adventures, a la food blogger. she gained the majority of her followers on instagram through her food snaps and her recommendations. blake's favourite places are usually cafés with pricey cakes and great coffee and shakes. adores a variety of cuisines and foods and is always down to try something a little different from the norm. the list of weird things she's eaten is rather lengthy. also, noodles. noodles are so good. she even loves all different sorts of instant noodles. she'll even eat the super spicy chicken noodles for leisure. ('my mouth may be burning and my might suffer later tonight but holy this is good.')
SETH
blake can admit that when she had first met seth, they didn't really hit it off. they didn't have an incredible amount of stuff in common, bar the fact that they're both studying in the medical field (meeting in first year foundational classes). however, as time went on, blake believes, that they both grew to like one another. seth has really come to understand blake's habits, and despite seth being awkward with most social things, she finds that he comes to understand blake in a weird, round-about kind of way. probably because blake doesn't particularly fit the social norm. they don't hang out a whole lot, but blake enjoys seth's company from time to time, sometimes you just need someone to soak in all the words you gotta say, you know?
SAGE
between the two, sage might be blake's favourite. they get along on a great level and the banter they throw between the two is rather amazing. blake had met sage through seth. sage is quick to fight back to blake's words, probably one of the only people that aren't completely afraid of blake when she gets loud and opinionated. when blake drags sage to her favourite café, that's when really starts. the caffeine gets sage all fired up and blake kinda lives for it. whilst sage and blake don't have all too much in common, their conversations aren't too dull. blake watches the occasional anime or plays the occasional video game or dating sim, and any time blake would bring that topic up, she'd laugh at the way sage would completely turn into an excited child. sometimes, their tastes in music would align (80's music, although blake mainly likes rock) and they'd walk into vintage stores and browse the small collections of vinyl. also, their snap streak is reaching 100.
° isn't huge on video games, but quite likes the occasional pc game, particularly overwatch and league of legends. she calls symmetra her girlfriend.
° claims her uality is panual and seems to have a bit of an inclination to femme presenting individuals. used to have a crush on sage when they first met but it's definitely gone now. doesn't date too often and her reasoning usually falls under: 'i'm too busy' or 'there's no one that interests me.' however, blake gets crushes easily, but also loses them even quicker. she'll claim she's in love with the girl in her clinical rotation, and then a week later, will forget her name.
° plans to get into medical imaging, obviously. she's unsure where she wants to work, but she wants to stay in los angeles.
° blake might be considered a 'super senior', however, she wasn't in university immediately after graduating from high school. due to unfavorable home situations, blake had to deal with the divorce of her parents and the general rift created in her family. additionally, blake wasn't the greatest of students in high school. during her off-time, is when blake started volunteering and getting jobs to find reasons to be away from home — despite not needing extra income. when she turned twenty, is when she enrolled to study medical imaging; something that has piqued her interest for a long time. additionally, she moved away from home (to stay in campus dorms).
° blake was a bit of a delinquent child when she was in high school. trespassing, smoking, damage to property, blake did a variety of... morally questionable things. to this day, she thinks she was trying to cope with the bad relationships she had with her parents (and them, with each other). her volunteering was sort of a way to give back, after messing up so much. she's pretty good with her hands and the feeling of making someone else happy had always made her heart swell. contrary to her rough words and headstrong personality, blake is actually pretty good with physical team work and will gladly be the muscle. she's stronger than you might think, she can bench a lot.
° very very big on fashion! loves street fashion. can she afford high-end street fashion? no. does she buy it anyway? yes.
° doesn't get drunk too often but loves beer. them dark brews? amber ales? pale ales? malt? hell yea. also great at handling her alcohol. no asian flush present, and a well maintained outward persona that's maybe a little louder, a little funnier and friendlier. until she hits the super drunk level. she usually just passes out/falls asleep.
° loves alternative rock music, actually collects vinyl here and there. she does like a lot of the more classic rock ('pink floyd was so innovative and i don't think anything can top that at this point. ever.') but the newer bands aren't too bad either.
° can't speak korean for . she can understand most of it, but when she's trying to construct a sentence or articulate herself, it all falls to crap. her accent is also unholy.
° is always on instagram, probably like 10 boomerangs on her story a day.
° loves the entire star wars franchise. cried when she heard that episode seven was coming out. although most people hate the prequels, her favourite movie of the saga is probably episode three, revenge of the sith. the bad acting and horrible cgi just makes her so happy and she often quotes obi wan kenobi, even though no one really gets it. additionally, sci-fi movies are her favourite genre and she'll honestly love anything to do with space and aliens. (she believes in aliens and will get really ing deep into conspiracy theories)
° loves board games. she will pick a night in playing monopoly over a night drinking in a heartbeat. but ho boy, is she competitive. boards will be flipped.
° at studying, never really learnt. now that she doesn't really have to do the traditional studying, things have gotten better but back in first year, blake would just rewrite the lecture slides in hopes that the dot points would stick. ('the retention rate is four times high if you write it!')
° is a space nerd and will quote random as facts and about stars and planets. often visits the planetarium. took astronomy for beginners as an elective in second year.
° loves ryan. yes, kakaotalk ryan. she has bought all his sticker packs. she will use them incessantly. additionally, blake is a pretty stoic typer. not too many exclamation marks or cry typing or anything, mostly just monotonous lol's and lmao's. any protrayal of emotion will be from ryan animated stickers. lots and lots tof them.

like i said, a lot. every time we catch up with one another, you tell me all these crazy stories about the things you get paid to do. girl, i'm not sure i'd even do some of those things for money. but yeah, essentially, hallux crew are a group of kids from ucla that do odd jobs, big or small, and volunteering type stuff (but with pay, obv) for people on and around campus, right? the group's gotten pretty big, from what i've heard. just a good group of helpful humans. you guys are popular.

hm... well. i've been volunteering here and ther for quite a few years. wouldn't say i'm a saint or anything...(far from)... but i like to help out with things i'm passionate about. animals, the lgbt community. things like that. i guess you could say these things are similar? if not, then i have zero experience. i'm pretty tough though, i can do some heavy lifting, no problem.
oh and i'm interning at simulation center at the moment. i'm not... the best... with people, i'll admit, but you know, getting better. clinical rotation probably helps too. idk. people.

i'm a lot less busier than i was in previous years, which is actually one of the main reasons i didn't join hallux sooner. but now, i'm simmered down to interning, rotation and thesis study. ok, i know that still sounds like a lot, but it actually gives me a fair amount of free time. more than i'm used to. i can't sit still. i will admit that i can't do some bigger jobs but small one-day tasks will be no problem. i'm free most weekends and in the later hours of the day during weekdays. my friday is completely clear. probably will never be free on tuesdays, however. i do have other commitments some weekends, but most of the time, no.

i felt like i sorta answered this before but i guess i'm just talking way too much now lol.
i might have said it in passing at one point when we hung out at some eatery or something but... i started volunteering after i finished high school, i kinda wanted to get away from home. dad's got a lot of money, so i didn't really need a job. volunteering feels good. makes you happy. makes others happy. despite what this face might suggest, i like to help out sometimes lol. i was sort of a problem child and, well, i've always wanted to give back for being a nuisance lol. and now that i'm getting older, doing these sorts of things for money won't hurt. oh and making memories. hallux is a huge thing at ucla and i already know you and seth so... why not.
