A pout formed on Jieun’s small lips when exited the school building. She glanced down at the blacktop; Dark, wet spots were forming from the rain. ‘I should have listened to umma when she told me to take an umbrella!’ she thought, frowning. Jieun’s eyes darted around, observing everybody else running for shelter. Sighing, she lifted her thick binder up over her head and prepared for the run when…

“Need an umbrella?”

Jieun glanced to her right and her heart skipped a beat. It was Dong Youngbae— better known as Taeyang— of the upper-class seniors. He flashed his famous eye smile and handed her a black umbrella. She blushed and shook her head quickly.

“No, it’s yours,” Jieun politely rejected his offer and then bowed 90 degrees.

“No, it’s yours,” Taeyang echoed, slightly chuckling. “Ladies come first.”

Jieun bit her lip and shook her head once again, “No, I’m fine!”

Taeyang lightly poked her arm with the tip of the umbrella. “I’ll stay here and argue with you until you take it.”

Jieun filled her cheeks with air and let out a long sigh. “Arraso…”

Taeyang chuckled and ruffled her hair. “That’s what I thought.” She gently and carefully took the umbrella from him as if it was the nation’s treasure.

“Bye Jieun,” he said with a wink. Jieun blinked, in a daze.

“Bye… Taeyang sunbae,” she replied softly, thanking God she didn’t stutter. He smiled briefly before pulling his hood over his head and starting the run home. Jieun scratched her head. Her grip on the umbrella tightened as her heart beat erratically. She nervously her bottom lip as she felt her blood rise to her cheeks. Using her free hand, she clutched her chest which was squeezing with excitement.

‘Omo, eottoke? My first love is painful for me, who is immature…It’s more painful than my wisdom tooth.’
