the basics.

name » Lee Heehyeon

nickname(s) »
Lightning Bug - No one calls her this, but good lord does she wish someone would.

birthplace & birthday » Seoul & May 16, 1992

hometown » Seoul, South Korea

ethnicity » Korean

occupation » Electrician

face claim » KARA's Nicole

backup face claim » BEG's GaIn

appearance » Heehyeon keep her hair just long enough to be easily yanked out of the way by pigtails. Anything longer would get in her way while on the job, and generally be more of neusance to clean. Her hair is naturally thick and she quite hates having to take more than ten minutes in the shower tops, so short hair is her friend. She's also toned pretty nicely from her field work, having to hold up light fixtures, stand on ladders for hours on end, and bend herself into odd positions to not get hersef electrocuted have all served to give her a pretty nice body, though not as nice as if she actually worked out. Her hands are also pretty rough since she doesn't alway use the reccomended safety gloves if whatever she's handling isn't guaranteed to electrocute her if the gloves aren't on. She's pretty enough when she tries, but good luck getting her to try - her makeup skills extend to "I know the difference between blush and eyeliner. Mostly because one has the word eye in it and the other is powder which I don't think you'd want in your eyes."

style » Heehyeon lives in perpatually dirty-looking jeans ("I swear they're washed, they just get covered in dirt so much that it's stuck there now!") and long-sleeved shirts, all boasting math puns, neither of which are super flattering to her figure. She does have her one "little black dress" that her mother bought for her back when she was eighteen. Since then she's worn it twice. Generally if she has to go formal she'll sling on some of her less stained jeans and a nice collared shirt with her favorite, but very well-worn, blazer. For shoes, it's flats all the way. She has two pairs of work boots for, well, work, and then a pair of sneakers (that really she needs to replace) for her off days.

" I'm looking to create a spark. Get it? Spark? Because I'm an electrician? "

" You only get one life. I may not know yet what I'm doing with mine but at least I'm doing something. "

I AM READY FOR LOVE.

personality »

There's an odd duality of self that results in the person known as Lee Heehyeon. Her maturity levels in terms of logic and all things associated is on par with, if not slightly ahead of, her physical age. However, her emotional insecurities are locked in their teen years, creating a strange disconnect between her ideals and her actions.

The person most people know as Lee Heehyeon is a bright, kind of crazy, but generally well-meaning young woman. She's incredibly cheerful and loves starting up conversations with just about everyone, and she's known for being able to prattle on about crazy stories from her childhood or about past clients. No one is sure how much of what she says is solid fact and what's just her elaborations, but she's entertaining and the flourishes don't hurt anyone as far as they can tell. Most people would define Heehyeon as an extrovert based on her constant chatting with people around and apparent inability to keep a silence lasting longer than a few seconds before she gets antsy and pipes up. Others would define her as twitchy, which is perhaps a bit closer to the truth. Heehyeon doesn't like staying still for too long, prefering to keep moving forward in both her life and her actions, amost afraid of looking back. She does often reflect on her own failings, but under the guise of "keep moving forward" she's accomplished little in actually working past those struggles. Her tendency to flourish extends past her storytelling and into her everyday life, where she regularly fabricates smaller things to convince herself that she's absolutely fine.

And to be fair, most days she is. Heehyeon is naturally an energetic person, a true adrenaline junkie. She's rarely bothered by her problems because she's mastered how to stay well ahead of them, keeping her heart rate up and those around her on their toes. Heehyeon is someone who's happy to try absolutely everything once, be it poisonous fish or skydiving. She enjoys tempting injury and even death if she's feeling particularly unbalanced or insecure. Living life as close to the edge as she can is how Heehyeon attracts attention and validates herself to herself. If she does something crazy on any given day, then she can tell herself that she's acomplished something and finds it a lot easier to sleep at night. Of course she does genuinely enjoy the craziness she subjects herself to, but like most things in her life she's learned how to use it to ignore her deeper struggles. At her core, Heehyeon constantly worries if she's really a good person, and she does what she can to keep herself away from her darker thoughts.

Of course such thoughts are unavoidable since they're part of her, and when Heehyeon is feeling particularly insecure she's not at all a fun person to be aorund. She gets snappy and defensive over any comment that could be even slightly directed towards her, negative or otherwise. Becaue for all her running, Heehyeon does in fact know and understand the bits of herself that she's rather pretend didn't exist. She's a bright girl, and with all that's happened in her adult life she has had to face some uncomfortable truths. She just only faced them long enough to get that they were there before running as fast as she could in the direction of denialsville. So she knows that she'll look at someone and make a snap decision about whether she wants to deal with them. And she knows those decisions usually result in her having a negative outlook on the people around her. She's aware of her own sense of superiority of intelligence and thoughtfullness. She knows full well that she does things without thinking of the consequences for others if they seem like they'd be fun. And to top it off she knows about her own tendency to get oversensitve and defensive about all these topics. And yet it continues.

But despite what she thinks when she's at her low points, Heehyeon isn't a terrible person. Sure she's not at all a conventional hero either, but she does care for and worry about others in her own way. Because she knows herself, she can often spot similar struggles in those around her, and she'll more often thatn not toss some advice their way. Usually sandwhiched in either cynism or snark depending on her mood, but advice nonetheless. She doesn't want to see anyone else end up in the rut she's steadily digging herself further into, despite what she may say. And although emotionally she's certainly a minefield, when things go to crap you can always count on Heehyeon. She may not think about the consequences, but if they turn out badly she'll take the responsibility to clean them up as best she can. When it comes to buckling down and getting done she will, despite complaints and loud verbal reluctance to do so, and she'll do as good job as she can manage with everything at her disposal.

Heehyeon is, despite what she may think, a people person. She loves being around people, interacting with people, and psycholanalyzing people. In general she finds the human condition to be absolutely fascinating, and at her highest points she can be coaxed out of the territory of small talk and into what is likely the closest to her matured self. She enjoys theorizing on nature versus nurture, debating how education and societal expectations can shape people differently, and how even those raised in identical environments often turn out quite different from one another. It's in conversations like these that she is happiest, and that it's easiest to see the potential for greatness that still lingers below all the demons that have taken over.

tl;dr - Heehyeon is someone who never fully matured. She tries to act like she's carefree and fun but inside is terrified of being rejected or of people finding out how broken she actually perceives herself to be. She cares about others but puts up a wall of mistrust to try and prevent them from caring about her. She enjoys taunting fate, both for the adrenaline rush as well as a way to silence her inner demons for a while. She's quite social but rarely talks about anything serious, although when she does talk about more intellectual things she's at her happiest.

BACKGROUND »

What can be said about Lee Heehyeon's past? She has lived a standard life, with two parents of opposing genders and a sibling sister who she is both best friends with and regularly argues with. She grew up just outside of Seoul and her parents still live in her childhood home. She was a tomboy growing up and often heard worries from both friends an family about her ability to find a husband, or that she might even be (*gasp*) a homoual. Heehyeon assured them she'd be fine, and with grades as high as hers were in her youth her family believed her. More than that, she believed herself. Heehyeon was confident she'd go to university, graduate with... some degree, and meet a very cute boy that would be head over heels for her. And this dream reamined steadfast through her childhood and into her angsty teen years. It was in highschool that some of her grades began to suffer, but she continued to excel in mathematics and science and so when it was time to apply to University she went in as a general sciences student. She only got into one university, but it was the relatively prestegious school Hanyang University, so she was happy. That happiness crumbled shortly thereafter.

It was in university that all Heehyeon's bad habits and negative traits that she'd never dealt with in her relatively easy early life came back to bite her right in the rear. At nineteen she was already quite young to be starting university, but her maturity levels were closer to fifteen or sixteen year old levels after years od doing the minimal effort for maximal results. She thought the real would would be as easy to coast through as childhood had been. She was dead wrong, and it hit her where it hurt the most: her grades. Heehyeon had always done well in school, and she'd never failed a class, so when her entire first semester save one psychology elective came back as a fail she was devestated. She vowed it wouldn't happen again, but with no idea of how to study that vow came to nothing, and at twenty years old she found herself kicked out of Hanyang and moving back in with her parents, who were none to pleased with the situation. Her mother made it clear that if she couldn't get herself a job, she wouldn't be allowed to remain in their home. Heehyeon scrambled a bit, but managed to snag a job in a fast food restaurant.

She hated working fast food. It was tiring, it was smelly, and worst of all it wasn't even slightly intellectually stimulating. But she wasn't sure what else you could do without a university degree, so she stuck with it for nearly a year before her sister, just starting university herself, saved her . Heejung (her sister) mentioned that some higher level blue collar jobs only required that Heehyeon pass a certification exam and they might be a better match. That was the day the two officially became best friends. Heehyeon took over the reasearch from their and determined that being an electrician sounded like the most interesting path to take, as it used both math and physics which had been her favorite school subjects. It took another six montsh (since she slacked a lot on actually searching) before she found somewhere willing to take her on as an intern. It was unpaid for nearly six months as she didn't have a trade school diploma, but her knack for math and physics made her a quick learner, and with pressure from her parents she was a hard worker. She began working as a proper paid helper for about two years before she finally passed the certification exam and became a full-fledged electrician at the age of twenty three.

Typically being female in a man's world is a tough job. But Master Electricians were scarce at the time that Heehyeon passed her exam and she managed to avoid many of the standard pitfalls due to desperation. And once the desperation passed she'd more than proven her aptitude for her job. She still got rude and lewd comments from custormers, and even from new team memebers, but all came to respect her either because of her efficiency or because she scared them with her brashness and no-nonsense attitude that she learned to carry with her when in the field. After about six months of full pay, Heehyeon bought a tiny apartment in Seoul that was located closer to her employer's main offices and began living on her own for the first time. This was also when she met her first, and currently last, boyfriend.

Kang Yoohwan was the son of one of her oder clients, who was helping to run is parent's financials. The two started of professionally enough, but Heehyeon was lonely and he was charming and they ended up swapping personal contacts when the job was finished. The relationship was definitely fun, but Heehyeon often found herself worrying about if he was cheating, why would he like her, was she doing everything right? Heejung assured her she was but Heehyeon couldn't help it. Until Yoohwan she'd only ever hooked up with strangers she met at clubs so the whole relationship thing was awkward and nervewracking for her. Yoohwan was very patient for about four months before her constant fretting started to fray at his nerves. They stuck it out for another three months before she decided to break up with him, telling herself and him that she just couldn't handle the pressure of a relationship right then. And perhaps that was partly true, but a part of her also knew she was just running away from the commitment. The next several months were miserable, but Heehyeon attempted to counteract her own heartbreak by being extra reckless, forgoing safety gear more often than not and going out nearly every night.

Heejung and her boss both agreed that Heehyeon needed to take a break, but how to go about convincing her? Heejung once again came to the rescue. Or, MBC did when they announced a second season of Bachelor's Paradise. The sisters had made a ritual of watching the show and then getting lunch sometime each week to laugh and compare preferences in couples, contestants, and if they thought the most recent elimination totally deserved it or not (the only week Heehyeon wasn't okay with the elimination was in Episode Six when Juna's secret was outed and she had to leave. It hadn't completely taken Heehyeon by surprise, but it had caused a very big debate (argument) between the girls over whether it was okay to like other women). Heejung decided to convince Heehyeon that joining the second season would be fun! She could go skydiving, or snorkelling, or whatever crazy things the show coud thin up, plus cute guys to hook up with! Heehyeon didn't even have time to be suspicious over how excited she was at the prospect. So she asked her boss if it was cool for her to take some time off if she managed to make the show, and he assured her she needed the time off anyhow - her vacation days were building up. And so off she went to cause trouble and pretend the real world doesn't exist for a while.

LIKES »

- Psychology. She reads a lot of articles on it in her spare time and yet hasn't considered doing a degree in it for some reason.

- Being one of the only female electricians in her area. They always underestimate her, and then she makes them choke on their own misogyny.

- Jumping off of high things. Be it skydiving, bungee jumping, or rappelling, she's there and she's ready to go.

- Reality television. There's something relaxing about laughing at a bunch of people being scripted idiots. She likes sitcoms for a similar reason.

- Confusing people with her own random incompetencies. See cooking in weak points. (Honestly just generally talking about herself is fun for Heehyeon)

dislikes »

- Cloudy weather. It's a lot harder to stay cheerful when the weather is crappy for some reason.

- Inherited wealth. In her time in the work force Heehyeon has come to greatly appreciate the value of hard work, so she absolutely abhors those who do well without putting in the effort required to do well.

- Being told she has potential. If she hears that word one more time someone's going through a wall. "Who the care about potential if I can't ing reach it?"

- Relationships. She is a jealous person and also super private about everything so the idea of dealing wth someone elses' problems does not appeal to her. Except for the fact that it does, but she's scared of screwing things up again so she tells herself she doesn't.

- People who hate math. Come at her bro, math is the only subject that counts! ("Get it? Did you see what I did there, because-" "Yes Heehyeon, we get it.")

strong points»

- If something requires applied math or physics knowledge, Heehyeon is your girl. She does this for a living after all.

- Will try basically everything at least once. Possibly twice, depends on her mood.

- While not a sporty person she holds up pretty well in stamina-based stuffs because of some of the weird positions and places she finds herself in while on the job.

- She's great at spotting details as well, also because of work.

- Is actually capable of holding her own in thought-provoking discussions, even if she'll almost never start them herself (or participate at all if she's not in the mood).

- Personally she thinks her ability to make math/science/electrician puns in most situations is a great strength.

weak points»

- Thinks she can handle more alcohol than she actually can.

- Holy tone deaf, do NOT let her sing.

- Is very clearly not taking any of this seriously. Also not afraid to swear on national TV because this is her vacation yo, don't tell her what to do.

- The extent of her cooking abilities is using a microwave and some basic stovetop stuff that doesn't require more than just boiling water. ("In my defense, I used to burn the water, so this is improvement!" "How the hell did you burn water?" "That... is an excellent question. But something was burning and the water was the only thing in the pot! Ergo, I burnt the water.")

- Not the biggest fan of making romantic connections. She's had one relationship ever, and that didn't work out so well for her.

- Do not leave her to make the plans. You will end up with "1. Start 2. ???? 3. Profit"

trivia »

- All of the electricity puns. ALL OF THEM.

- She is very up for casual - in fact it's her prefered method of getting some. But a one night stand doesn't go further than that for her, so if she actually ends up liking anyone there shall be no .

- She will openly admit she's experimented in the past, but only because she knows with certainty that she's straight (s are gross)

- She speaks pretty informally in general. She'll use honorofics (mostly) correctly but she'll also use slang and swears like her life depends on them. Conversely she also adores using random olde words when speaking as well (ie Ergo instead of Therefore, Post Hast instead of Quickly, Tally Ho instead of Let's Go, etc)

- Her favorite story to tell is about her second ever customer. She had the brilliant idea of taking off her safety gloves to finish an installation when they were too clunky to properly align the wire. She of course electrocuted herself but was lucky enough to survive it as it wasn't very strong. And the wiring went where it needed to go so everyone won. Her hair smelled like ash for almost a week after the incident though. (She also uses the pun "quite a shock" at least four times during the telling because she's a nerd at heart)

- She wants so badly to be abe to pun things that aren't math/science/electrician based but she never can and it makes her sad. Whenever she does actually manage to come up with something she will immediately ruin it by excitedly bouncing around and asking everyone in earshot if they saw what she just did there. Though to be fair she does that with her math/science/electrician puns as well so no real different there.

- If you laugh at her math pun shirts because you understood them you will instantly be her new favorite. Which she will loudly announce to everyone in earshot.

- Her indoor voice is more often than not the same as her outdoor voice.

- When something actually scares her her reaction is to punch it, whether or not that would actually be a good idea or not. She has broken her hand punching a concrete support beam before. To this day she claims it was the greatest Halloween Haunted House she's ever been in.

home is where your heart is.

Love interests » Gunhee, Changkyung, Hoseok

the reason you applied » Heehyeon is here for the entertainment. She's a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so a situation like this is ideal for her. Plus, cute guys to hook up with is alway a plus in her books.

strategy » The thing is Heehyeon doesn't have a strategy for her "three guys". Her goal is to flirt relentlessly and have a good time - and hey, hopefully she can get laid a couple times before heading back home. And honestly, she doesn't really care who the is with. If she gets an invite into a room, she's going to take it. She knows what she's doing - she can teach them how to please her.

The bachelors »

  • jooheon » Jooheon is definitely one of Heehyeon's favorite bachelors. He's just so much fun! Sure he's annoying as sometimes, but he's nice enough to look at and definitely won't be stressing her out with questions about work or the future. He's definitely on her "To Do" list before she's cut. However, as stated she does find him annoying when he goes into weenie mode, so she'll usually only hang with him when he's being "fun".

  • changkyun » Heehyeon actually knew who this guy was, which is more than she can say for the others. She's not a huge partier in her normal life but she knows how to go out and have fun, and as such is familiar with Changkyun's face. And so of the bachelors he's the one who first sparked her interest, and she's definitley a bit more aggressive about hanging around him and wanting to learn more. He's also the one of her main three that she's most likely to actually end up sleeping with on a whim.

  • hyungwon » He's sweet, but honestly Heehyeon forgets he's there half the time. She's here to be crazy and do things she'll regret in the morning, and Hyungwon just seems... well he seems pretty dang vanilla. And Heehyeon is here for spice. She'll be nice to him when he's around but it's quite obvious she's not all that interested in spending time with him.

  • hyunwoo » If Heehyeon does nothing else, she wants to do Hyunwoo. Holy crap have you seen this guy? From the moment she saw him Heehyeon knew that he was her primary target for fun times and she is not shy about making that obvious. When he's around she's happy to show off her body and flirt aggressively - even more aggressively than she already does. She is rather put out that he doesn't seem nearly as interested in her as she is in him, but she'll definitely be working on that.

  • minhyuk » Definitely another favorite of Heehyeon's, though actually pretty low on the To Do list, ranking only about Kihyun and Hyungwon. Minhyuk is fun, and that's what Heehyeon is here for after all. She adores doing crazy things with Minhyuk and general making giant nuisances of themselves, but she actually sees him as more of a friend than a possible partner. Not that it would stop her from agreeing to join him in his bedroom if the offer was made of course.

  • hoseok » Her first glance of Hoseok without a shirt on shot him straight to the top of Heehyeon's "To Do" list. At least until she started realizing there was more to Hoseok than he let on, at which point she became incredibly intrigued by the mysterious bachelor. She likes trying to get him alone to legitimatly just talk, in an attempt to get him to relax and open up to her to satisfy her curiosity. However, in the process she ends up revealing things about herself as well and unwittingly becoming relaxed around Hoseok, perhaps enough to let her mask relax for a bit and just be herself.

  • kihyun » Kihyun is easily the bachelor Heehyeon gets along with the least. Not in a dramatic rivalry way, but more that they simply don't connect on any level at all. Heehyeon is seemingly carefree, Kihyun has a clear life plan. Heehyeon thinks as long as food is edible that's good enough and Kihyun thinks that's blasphemy. There's no tangible negativity between these two, but there's also no real chance at any kind of relationship either.

  • Gunhee » Despite not being a bachelor, he's the one Heehyeon is most likely to actually become interested in, or at least develop a legitimate friendship with. She can relate all too well to feeling like a failure, and to not giving up despite that. Time spent alone with the MC is when she's most likely to come down from party mode and give a glimpse of her actual intellectual abilities, often engaging the host in conversations about the state of humanity or the world in general, potificating on her thoughts about the human condition and how it's affected by society at large.

  • On the hidden cards » Frankly Heehyeon doesn't care. As long as she has some fun (and gets some loving) she doesn't care who these guys are. Which is good because she actually only knew of Changkyun prior to joining the show.

  • On the other girls » Heehyeon doesn't care much about them either. She's here to have fun, and if they want to have fun as well awesome! They'll get along fine with Heehyeon. But Heehyeon is definitley prone to being pretty dismissive and sometimes straight up rude to the ones who "actually think this show is actually going to help with your love lives." She just thinks those girls are being particularly naive and it frustrates her because she remembers how bad naivety went for her.

this is paradise.

"So...this is season 2 of Bachelor's Paradise. Interesting how people are still torturing themselves with applying for this show. Please, introduce yourself."

  • "... Okay I'm sorry, I have to ask, why are you doing this? Of all the guys last season you were the sane one, so why-" She cuts herself off with a laugh. "Sorry, not the interviewer. The question was why would I do this to myself right? Well I'll be honest with you, it looked like fun last season, and my boss has been yelling at me to take some time off anyway so why not try and have some fun while I do?" She grins shamelessly.

"Why do you think you need this program to find love? Is there a reason you couldn't find love on your own?"

  • "HA." The laugh is sharp but completely genuine. "I don't need this program and I don't believe you can fall in love with a stranger in a situation like this. I'm just looking to relax and meet some cool people. Heck, maybe one of the bachelors will need some electrical work done and I can make some money in the future!"

"Why should we choose you and not someone else?"

  • She purses her lips lightly, thinking on the question. "That's a good point. You'll be wanting people who will be fighting over the bachelors and bringing a lot of drama." She pauses again, tilting her head to stare at the ceiling. "Mostly I think it's fun to watch someone with no shame. Juna was my favorite bachelorette last season you know." She grins. "I'd like to be this season's Juna. Only without the singing." She laughs and looks down towards Yoongi again. "I don't sing." She pauses, and then adds, "And without the being outed in front of the whole country. I mean, I'm straight anyway but that was the toughest part of the show to watch for me. Poor girl."

"What do you think about people who gain a lot of money?"

  • She shrugs. "Potato Potahto really. As long as you work hard to earn your paycheck I don't much care about the numbers on it. That said," And for the first time her relaxed posture tenses and a frown graces her face, "I hate those people who just inherit money and then spend the rest of their lives wasting it and taking it for granted. All I ask of people is to be productive members of society. If you can't do that, you don't deserve anything." She's seething by the end of the response, but after a moment takes a deep breath. "Okay, sorry. I'm calm. Next question?"

"Any hopes or dreams for the future?"

  • She blinks. "Okay. Heavy question." She sighs slightly before replying. "Honestly my dream is to figure out what I actually want to do. I like my job now, and it pays well, but I never finished university and that just doesn't sit well with me. I want to do more, but I'm not sure what more actually looks like for me, you know? I'm sort of in this limbo of uncertainty about the future." She shrugs. "It is what it is I guess, and I could live as an electrician for the rest of my life, but I'd like to do more." She smiles, but it's not the cocky one from the rest of the interview. This one feels much more human.

"Oh right... did you watch season 1?"

  • She laughs again. "Was that not obvious? Yeah, I watched that trainwreck and enjoyed every moment of it."

"Okay, that's it... why are you looking at me like that? You want to tell me something else?"

  • She shakes her head, grinning. "I still don't get why you're the one doing this." She admits with a laugh, "But I'll get out of your hair. I've got an appointment in thirty minutes anyway that I should be getting to."

last words.

comments/suggestions » Her three guys are mostly the ones who she's actually interested in getting to know, rather than just being a means to an end (that end being and relaxation generally speaking) Also, the closer she gets to Hoseok and Gunhee the less likely she actually will accept a casual invite from the others. She doesn't care about Changkyun as much xD

scene requests » Assuming she makes it far enough to actually develop a friendship with him, I'd love for Heehyeon to give Gunhee her number after she's eliminated and tell him to "text if you, ya know, need anything."

...Electrician...

Dani I love you.
