35 questions for AFF writers

Hey! So, a friend of mine recently read someone else's answers to this questionnaire (I can't remember who she said it was, and I'm too lazy to search through our messages). Since she isn't an author here on AFF she wanted me to do it. So technically I wasn't tagged? I've also seen this questionnaire around, but didn't think of doing it but yeah... Anyway, here it is! She wanted to stay anonymous, so I'll just say; thank you cherie! :) I hope you like it, and I hope those of you who read this like it as well. I'm not really that interesting, though, so don't expect too much.

Okay, here goes:

1. How did you come up with your user name and what does it mean?

Well, I actually saw the word killibinbin on an advertisement in a subway in London. I can’t remember what the advertisement was for (I think maybe cosmetics or hair products) but it started with explaining that killibinbin was an aboriginal word for shiny or sparkly in Australia, if I remember correctly. Anyway, when I began to read here on AFF and then decided to post my own stories I remembered that word and its meaning and thought ‘Hey, that’s pretty neat and fitting, seeing as I’m a SHINee fan and will post fanfics with them as my characters.’ So yeah, that’s pretty much it!

2. Which is your most subscribed to story?

A Different Beginning, which has 327 subs at the moment.

3. Why did you pick your user photo/thumbnail?

Because it was cute, haha. And I love cats.

4. Who is your AFF bestie?

Oh, wow… I would have to say radiogalaxy, though she’s been inactive for some time. She’s my best friend in real life haha. We’ve been friends since sixth grade.

5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?

Yeah, quite a few. One of them is The Bad Boy’s Monologue by princessjonghyun. Another one is Not All’s Fair in Love and War by liliac. Then we have Dear Yunmi by orange_cookie and Against All Odds by dailysymptoms. I would also mention Stressed and Sweet and Making An Exception, but I think the author has deactivated or removed those stories, because I can’t find them anymore.

6. How many stories are you subscribed to?

Oh, I feel a little bad about this since everyone seems to be subscribed to a lot of stories, but I only have 77 at the moment.

7. What AU do you find yourself writing about most?

Fantasy. I love fantasy and magic and dragons and all those things! If not that, then just normal life AUs.

8. How many friends do you have?

On AFF? 101 friends. I’m not really sure why, but yeah…

9. Is there something you'd like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)

Everything. Like, I have so many ideas I want to get out into the world, but then I always begin second guessing myself. I still post it though, because it’s always worth a try, right?

10. Is there anything you would like to be better at on AFF? Writing, graphic design (posters), replying to comments, updating regularly, etc..?

I would like to update more regularly, yes. I used to have much more time for writing, but I think that was just because I was inexperienced and didn’t write very long chapters. I also couldn’t really get the words I wanted written down properly. I still struggle with it, but I would like to believe I have gotten better at writing during these past years.

11. How many subscribers do you have?

Well, at the moment I have 999 unique subs and 1 636 total subs.

12. How many stories have you posted online to this day (finished and unfinished)?

Oh, wow, let’s see… 30 stories if I’ve counted correctly.

13. How many stories do you have saved in your writing program?

God, too many to count. I even have snippets of stories written down on scraps of papers and in the marginal of my notebooks, so there are a lot of ideas that haven’t seen the day of light yet. I would go and count my stories, but I’m too lazy to haha.

14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?

I write down some ideas and scenes that pop into my head. Others I keep in my head for a while to mull over and improve before I write them down. You have no idea how long it takes me to fall asleep at night because I’m just lying there in my bed playing out scenario after scenario in my head.

15. Have you ever co-authored a story?

Yes, actually. It’s called Malfunction and I was writing it with radiogalaxy but we never finished it. I think we wrote like two chapters.

16. How did you discover AFF?

I don’t remember, haha. Maybe… nope, I have no memory of it at all. Now I feel weird.

17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author on AFF?

God no, hahaha. I don’t think I ever will be either, and that’s fine.

18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?

No. Does someone actually have that? If so, that’s kinda cool. To be so popular your fans make up a name for themselves.

19. Was there an AFF author who inspired or encouraged you to write?

Not really. I was writing before I found AFF and I realized that I could post stories here. If there was someone who inspired and encouraged me to write, it was my English teacher during my summer course in Cambridge when I was fifteen. She was a big fan of Shakespeare and we always wrote poems, sonnets and plays in class. She would always save mine and tell me I’d be a writer someday. I think she’s still waiting for my book she told me she would look forward to reading.

Wow, sorry for the trip down memory lane. But yeah, she’s the one who encouraged me to write and here I am.

20. How many karma points do you have?

3 109 points. Not much, I know.

21. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?

Don’t be afraid and experiment. You’ll find what works for you and grow because of it. Also, write because you enjoy it, not because you feel you should or you want to be famous. If you don’t like what you’re writing, why should somebody else? I doesn’t matter if it takes you months to get a new chapter or story out there, it will take form the way it will take form and sometimes it takes a little time to find the right words or scenarios for your story. Writing is a way to express yourself and that should never be forced.

22. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?

I mean, I do a little plotting? But most of it is just figuring it out as I go, haha. Mostly, when I write a story, I have a handful of scenes I know are going to be relevant and I have an idea of how the story will play out, but I don’t sit down and write down a plotline, timeline, and make character sheets and all those things. I’m too lazy for that.

23. Have you ever gotten a bad review or comment on a story? If so, what did you do?

Well, I don’t know if this is a bad comment, but I once had a reader who was disappointed in how much angst there was in my story, told me what I was doing wasn’t storytelling, and demanded I give them something ‘good’ or they would unsubscribe. I first addressed that reader and told them I was sorry they felt that way and then I wrote an entire author’s note explaining why there was so much angst, in case there were any other readers out there feeling the same way and just wanted me to get on with it. Maybe that wasn’t the right thing to do, but I didn’t really know what else to do.

24. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, , etc..)

. Definitely . I just can’t.

25. What story(s) are you working on now?

Illusory, which is a minkey dungeons&dragons!AU fic, and Tethered, which is a jongkey soulmates!AU fic.

26. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?

Oh boy, do I ever! I have so many fics I can’t wait to write! I have a hard time choosing which fic I’ll begin next once I finish a story, I just want to write them all at the same time!

27. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?

No, ‘cause I’m lazy like that. I wish I had a goal and could reach it, but if I don’t feel like writing and force myself then it doesn’t feel right. Like I said earlier, writing shouldn’t be forced.

28. Do you think you've improved as a writer since you first started?

Oh god yes! I can’t tell you how much I cringe when I look back at my older stories, and when people tell me they’re going back to read them I just feel so embarrassed haha! But I guess to improve you have to be bad and correct your mistakes.

29. What is your favorite story that you've written?

Well, at the moment my favorites are Breathe Me, which is a jongho fic, and The First Kiss Campaign, which is an onho fic. But I think Thetered, the jongkey story I’m currently writing, could also make the list.

30. What is your least favorite story that you've written?

Well, I don’t hate it, I just wish I had the energy to go back and edit, but I think Hot Mess is one of my worst works. Maybe I shouldn’t be so hard on it since it’s my first fic ever, but you know… it needs a lot of improvement. Otherwise I quite like all my stories, since I wrote something I myself wanted to read but couldn’t find.

31. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?

Hm… I don’t know. I want to think I’d still be writing, but you never know what’ll happen so…

32. How many upvotes do you have?

307.

33. What is the easiest thing about writing?

Creating plots.

34. What is the hardest thing about writing?

Actually writing down everything I have in my head and be satisfied with the way it turned out.

35. Why do you write?

This might be an obvious and cliché answer, but I write because I love it. It’s really that simple. I love creating my own little worlds and characters and then explore them. And I love sharing them with the people around me.

I guess I should tag someone? Um, let's just say that anyone who reads this is welcome to do their own :) And also give credit to the person who made this questionnaire: OnceUponAnEXO I don't know you personally, but this was fun!
