MATCH FROM HEAVEN / "TOO STRONG" / MOON HYUNSOO

"To love is to receive a glimpse of heaven."
-Karen Sunde

Faceclaim Ari (former Tahiti member)
Backup Hye-rin (EXID)
Appearance
She is not afraid of pushing the 'limitations' of her reputation of a tomboy. In fact, having grown up a tomboy and looking/acting the part she will randomly dress more feminine to throw people off (especially her oppa.) However, she really does like the tomboy style as it suits her lifestyle. She keeps hair short and makeup muted (if she wears it at all.)
She is taller for the average born-in-the-country Korean at 170cm and weighs in at 54kg @ (give or take on any given day.)
Style
[Tomboy style; usually how she is dressed:] Given the life she has made for herself (and due to her father's influence) Hyunsoo can be found more in jeans, slacks, and shorts. Button down shirts cotton t-shirts and sweatshirts and flannels are favorites of hers.
[ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ]
["Girly":] every once in a while, she'd show a little cleavage or bare more than "normal" (for her anyways) or wear a pretty skirt. The preference is still in cool/more neutral shades. She is not known for bright or loud colors. She has a preference for solids or two-toned clothing, meaning, no flowery or "eye-catching" prints. On a whim or per (endless) nagging from her oppa or omma, she can 'clean up' but make it look carelessly done.

Character Nickname(s)
☁︎ Soosoo — her parents/oppa and friends call her this. It was originally used for when she was a child and (only, but not really) when they were teasing her, but it has since stuck.
Birthplace Goyang, South Korea. (about 16km to Seoul)
Hometown Goyang, South Korea.
Birthday 11/02/1992 (26/25 intl)
Language(s)
☁︎ Korean — native language
☁︎ English — fluent: learned it in middle and high school and then when she moved to Australia to continue her education.

Personality
☁︎ traits —

[Positive]
-Friendly
-Creative (she is a glass artist, even if officially just more of an assistant as of now)
-Confident
-Free-thinking [(per dictionary.com: a person who forms opinions of the basis of reason, independent of authority or tradition) - pretty much, refuses to fall in line with the "you're a girl, dress like a girl" or "you're supposed to be a tomboy, so why are you showing cleavage/wearing a dress/etc etc"]
-Honest
-Kind
-Sociable

[Negative]
-Forgetful
-Impatient (especially if she is in the middle of a piece of work and it is not going the way she wants)
-Messy (only pertains to her bedroom, her sanctuary. Her workspace and the rest of the house is kept spotless)
-Blunt (in her words/actions at times)
-Picky (in the sense of food. She is very particular about what she eats, though she has no allergies. To put in other words, she'll go to a Chinese restaurant with you, but she will only order from her "usual" orders)

[Neutral]
-Subjective (she can rarely be swayed by someone else's thoughts if it doesn't coincide with hers. If she hasn't made up her mind? She'll take both sides to account and decide but if her mind is made up? It's made up.)

Hyunsoo as the baby in the family (literally and figuratively) can (and sometimes will) act as such. However, she is very independent and has a way of carrying herself that is very honest and mature. Partly because of how she was raised, she is a very sure of herself and not the type to hesitate to act in that way.

Being so independent so she has even more reason as to being the independent and self-suffcient type.

Having been raised "outside the box" she always thought about the issue of equality between men and women. She won't hesitate to step into an argument over the equality. Nor will she hesitate about the stereotypes people have of her (being a tomboy.) However, she has never considered herself a "tomboy." Just because she likes to keep her hair shorter and has a preference for pants over skirts, she really believe it should not matter. She is, just who she is.

She is very aware that being raised so independent and carefree has also made her more stubborn and blunt with her actions and words. It's never so bad ,but she is aware it's just not "what good girls" do. Many times over, her oppa will about it, but her parents will step in to help her with the "argument," if not with the teasing beforehand.

Background

1982: Moon Ji Hyun (appa) and Kwon Soojin (omma) married in Ilsan, South Korea. Moved to Goyang.

1986: Moon Daehyun (oppa) was born.

1993: Moon Hyunsoo was born.

1998-2007: Hyunsoo attended school. Expressed a love and talent in appa's art when was first introduced in primary school.

2007-2011: Hyunsoo with her appa's approval and encouragement went  to Hanlim ART School.

2011-2014: Moved to Australia to continue her education (University of South Australia Art Museum, Adelaide, Australia.)

2014-2016: Hyunsoo completed an apprenticeship with her appa's friends in Glass Blowing, in Gunsan, South Korea.

2016-present: Hyunsoo worked under her appa's direction and supervision as an assistant initially and continued to production of her own glass and art.

*To note:

Hyunsoo never dated growing up but would rather be "everyone's friend." She was (and is) the type to think she wasn't attractive enough or feminine enough to attract others so spent her time focusing on her hobbies and her art (beyond her family and friends.) As her oppa finally married in 2015, she started realizing (not that she wasn't ever pushed about dating from her omma or close friends, but it wasn't a priority) that she should start dating seriously

Love Interest Jonathan Jonghyun Kwon (fc: Kevin Woo, former UKISS)
Backup Lee Taemin
Nickname(s)
☁︎ JJ — His initials
☁︎ Jon — Shortened version of name (only his family calls him Jon. He prefers Jonathan but for business purposes, he will use Jonghyun as needed)
Birthplace San Francisco, California, USA
Hometown Palo Alto, California, USA
Language(s)
☁︎ English — native language
☁︎ Korean — semi-fluent; raised speaking/hearing Korean through childhood on combined with having lived in Seoul for 6+ years, so he could called bilingual though he is not as fluent as he would like.

Personality
☁︎ traits —

[Positive]
-Cute (aka Aegyo; it is a natural inclination to act cutesy -sometimes unknowingly. Prone to have this side come up and out to friends and family though it is curbed in the professional setting)
-Friendly
-Private (there is a clash between friendly and private. However, he keeps more private matters quiet but is as tallkative and social as other social butterflies out there)
-Responsible
-Patient
-Soft-spoken

[Negative]
-"Artificial" (possibly his looks -think fashion savvy- mixed with his behaviors, so many assume he is articificial or fake. Going with this, more often that not, many do not seek more friendships beyond those most superficial layer.
-Fickle (but only in the sense of his career. Not to say he lies or changes his point of views often, but he tends to say what he can to recruit the students to attend Kyung Hee University, so it seems as if he is fickle minded)
-Argumentive (only in relation to, when he feels someone's rights have been dismissed or trampled upon, he does not hesitate to argue or fight or talk his head off on behalf of them. If it gets to that point, he makes his point and will argue over it. However, it never esclates too far.
-"Not always in control of his schedule" (With his career, about half of the time he is on the road, either internationally or nationally. During those times, he lives by their schedule.

Jonathan came to Seoul in 2011 to attend university at Kyung Hee University as an international student. He ultimately decided to finish university there and when offered a job as an Admissions representative, he took on the position.

He is known on campus as a nice and caring professional who isn't afraid to take time to talk with students on any topic.

Though he is alone in Seoul (beyond "cousins of cousins" or "aunts and uncles") he finds that Korea is more suited for him. Having grown up in an (almost) suburbia of San Francisco, he has heard many times over, people accuse him of being gay and/or bi. And though he has no issues with people who associate or declare themselves as such, he sees simself as straight. Though on different occasions he is still mistaken for being gay or bi, but those who "hit on him," seem to be more accepting of his rejections.

Having grown up in the United States, he is more liberal and "democratic." He is all about being fair and undemanding as well as he is a firm believer in equality among everyone, no matter who they are, where they are from, what religion they believe in, etc.

Believing what he does, and as part of what he learned about South Korea (where many are still very conservative) when he first arrived, he tends to keep these beliefs to himself and to others who vocalize these beliefs themselves. He himself doesn't vocalize these thoughts, even if he believes in them as (because of his career) he doesn't like to stir the pot if it isn't needed. However, if pushed he doesn't hesitate to share these beliefs with others.

Trivia
☁︎ Family — His noona is 32, his dongsaeng is 22 (They're all 5 years apart)
☁︎ Music — What he would call his one weakness. Any genre and any language, if he likes the beat he calls it good.
☁︎ Cooking — Ever since he was little he had liked learning how to cook. But especially since moving to Seoul, he loves to seek out other ways of cooking. Going as far as taking classes.
☁︎ Driving — He loves to drive and has his liscense but has never made the effort to buy a car. If he has to take a road trip, he borrows his uncle's car.

Family
☁︎ Appa — Moon Ji Hyun— Ahn Sung Ki — 63 (b. 1954)
Ji Hyun and Hyunsoo have a great relationship as father/daughter and as coworkers. They see one another daily (weekend hours vary) due to the studio and talk about (almost) everything. He is a man who is never short or has a bad word to say about anyone or anything.

☁︎ Omma — Kwon Soojin — Kim Mi Sook — 60 (b. 1957)
Soojin and Hyunsoo have a fairly good relationship as well. Admittedly, it wasn't as good during Hyunsoo's teenage (and earlier) years due to Soojin's insistence of Hyunsoo being more feminine. But after many arguments and interventions from Ji Hyun and Daehyun did things calm down. Her "ways" were finally accepted by Soojin. Beyond what happened during Hyunsoo's childhood, Soojin is a very supportive person. She runs and co-owns a small bookstore/coffeeshop with her dongsaeng.

☁︎ Oppa — Moon Daehyun— Jung Woo — 31 (b. 1986)
Daehyun is not only Hyunsoo's oppa but her best friend (her male best friend that is.) Because of their age difference, Hyunsoo was almost like a life sized doll to play with, except she was never a doll nor was he ever the doll-playing type. He treated her as a younger "brother." If he played ball or went fishing or hiking or anything of the sort and once she was old enough, she joined right in. Though Daehyun never fell in love with glass blowing, he would run errands or act as a pontil boy (*assistants for glass blowers) for Ji Hyun. Even as they grew older, he remained available to be the pontil boy for the two glass artists of Moon Glass Productions. He works as the city of Goyang's Assistant Economic Development Director.

Friends
☁︎ Best Friend — Jung Dabin — Lee Se Young — 24 (b. 1993)
Dabin and Hyunsoo have been velcroed to one another since middle school. The fact that the pair lived within five minutes of one another helped cement their friendship through everything they faced. Dabin being more feminine and demure vs Hyunsoo being more masculine and brazen in relation or their times apart like when Hyunsoo studied abroad always got everyone talking. They went through many harassments as well, but stayed close friends nonetheless. Dabin is a primary school teacher in Goyang.

Others
☁︎ none that I can think of

Interview
☁︎Hello, and welcome to Match From Heaven! Tell me about yourself and why you chose my lovely services.

Thank you. To be honest, my best friend Dabin suggested your services as her eonnie had friends, I believe, who have used your services in the past and have only goods things to say. They all really recommended this agency as a good alternative to use for a possible match.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Moon Hyunsoo and I am 26 years old. I work as a Glass Blower for Moon Glass Productions, a studio my father and I both own and run in my hometown of Goyang. I have only been working as a professional glass blower for a year but studied at the University of South Australia Art Museum in Adelaide, Australia before returning back to South Korea and apprenticed with Gunsan Glass House in Gunsan.

☁︎ Is there an ideal partner you've dreamed about?

I really don't know if I've ever allowed myself to dream about an ideal partner if I was honest. I mean, I'm not the average Korean girl who allowed myself time to think about dating or about romance, so I guess my answer would be no.

☁︎What kind of relationship are you looking for? Be as specific as you'd like!

I think more than anything, I want a friend. I'm very forward thinking and with my experiences with having my oppa as a best friend, I miss having a relationship like that. I mean he has recently got married and so though he still is around and my best friend, things are different is all. So, as for who I am looking for in relation to your services? A friend first and possibly more afterwards.

☁︎Do you believe in any kind of love at all?

As someone who'se seen and experienced 37 years of my parent's love and heard and seen of my oppa's love of 5 years, yes, I do believe in love. I hope to one day experience that love as well.

☁︎Anything I should absolutely know before finding your match? Absolute no-gos, parent issues, any kind of baggage I should be aware of?

Hmm, I have no issues with someone who is not Korean or of not having been borne in Korea. I need someone who is open to my not having the stereotypical girly looks of many girls my age, but a more androgynous, almost boyish or tomboy style. I think these two key points are points to keep in mind pertaining to my match. Thank you for your help in hoping to find a match for me.

First Meeting

(Answering from the point of view of Hyunsoo)

A favorite thing to do, is to not meet at a familiar location for me, so I'd ask to meet at their favorite cafe. A more quiet and chill location where voices can be heard without requiring shouting, even if that means meeting at an off time between busy hours.

Personally, you can see how a person is with thier choices. The ambiance, environment, background music and with how the cafe is run. The decor or quality of drinks or even customer service all can show how your potential date is.

Do they suggest a drink or treat from the bakery? Do they order for you? Do they offer to pay or let you "go Dutch?" What do you discuss? Does he listen and respond? Or does he talk over you?

All of these are good things to take in on a first date so you know what the second or third or twentieth dates are like.

Interactions
-I would LOVE to see [Jonathan] read/find about her ideal first date and make it happen.
-I'd love to see (your take) on his attempt.
-Having him come visit her in the art studio and have him try to make a glass something and her using the glass terminology to explain stuff and have him be floored with no understanding.
-Having him defend her art as legit art from a coworker who overhears him talking about his date/girlfriend and not "playing at glass." (Glass artists who make their own glass with sand, colors etc, have to know all the chemical compounds like a chemist.)

Trivia
☁︎ Likes —
-Dogs; dogs, puppies, alone or in groups. She has a weakness for them.
-Iced Vovo; australian snack she became addicted and obsessed with when she studied abroad
☁︎ Dislikes —
-Cats; she finds them cute as heck, but because of an allergy she doesn't like them
-Judgemental people
☁︎ Movies — she has a secret love affair with movies; all kinds of movies Korean or English or any other language... Romance, horror, drama to any genre.
☁︎ Was given the name Hyunsoo from her parents (Hyun from appa, Soo from omma.)
☁︎ Some have said that the choice to name her a masculine sounding name (though it's a uni name) caused her to be a tomboy.
☁︎ In 2009, Ji Hyun opened a glass house and studio named, Moon Glass Productions (as he had always wanted to open one and in preparation for when Hyunsoo completed her studying) to have a father/daughter studio to create as well as to teach glass blowing to the general public.

Questions/Comments
☁︎ will you wait til you have more applcants before starting the story? or start with one or two and just add on?
☁︎ super excited and can't wait to hear from you!
☁︎ surprise ending? yes please.... I mean, it IS your story so you have the right to choose how to direct it, them, everything! But of course, the romantic side of me hopes for a good, happy ending!

Scene Suggestions
☁︎ favorite cafe — something in a small-scale with Hyunsoo and Jonathan and their cafe date
☁︎ deja vu — have one of them secretly plan a suprise date... to have it be too similar as a date they had had with someone who had meant a lot to them
☁︎ via mom — the date is planned with help from their dates mom's suggestions and advice. It's a recipe for disaster ard argments ensue... til after an apology and (long) conversation is everything cleared and another date is set... with no plans/suggestions from anyone's mom.

Password
☁︎ Jamie Sullivan & Landon Carter (A Walk to Remember) - [ 1 ] [ 2 ] - *I chose this couple because they popped in my head and was/is a favorite. The songs: song 1 suited them (more positively with a more optimistic of what if) and song 2 suited them as well (though it was more meloncholic but I couldn't not have it here; side note: like if these songs don't age me OMG.)
