35 Questions for Writers [probably the last thing I'll do here in a while]

i tag: anybody and everybody that sees this

1. How did you come up with your user name and what does it mean?

I don't really know to be honest. Saru is a nickname that I get called in real life. The '-chan' comes from the fact that I was a really cringy anime fan (I'd like to this that I've toned it down but any of my friends that know me will know that's a lie). 'Call-me' is just the fact that I'm too frightened to give out my name stranger danger lmaoo. I just wanted a username that was exactly was it said on the tin (minus the -chan, can we all forget about that please lol).

2. Which is your most subscribed to story?

Hold Me Tight- YoonMin

3. Why did you pick your user photo/thumbnail?

Because who doesn't want a gif of pink-haired Park Jimin to chong jojun balsa you when you visit a profile.

4. Who is your AFF bestie?

I don't have a bestie per se, but all of my mutuals are real cool people.

5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?

Umm, there are a few. Korekrypta's fics are some of my favourite but I really like long one chapter fics too.

6. How many stories are you subscribed to?

Around 200, but I'm only actually invested in reading about 50. I subscribe to loads of stories that I think have good potential and stuff and then I try to get around to reading them, otherwise I'll forget they exist. I don't acknowledge the existence of the bookmark tool unless I'm actually reading a fic. I wish AFF could have a setting that enabled us to put certain fics in certain categories like finished, currently reading etc. If there is somethign like this already in place, could someone tell me what it is please lol.

7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most?

I don't have a particular AU to be honest, but non of them are in their original Idols! AU status. Right now, I'm planning a series of Hanahaki! AU's, each with a slight difference between when I already have fics to UPDATE someone pls shoot me.

8. How many friends do you have?

47. damn I need to talk to more people.

9. Is there something you'd like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)

Yes there is, there are so many things, but I'm not ready to lose my morals just yet lmaoo. There's no way I'm telling anybody until they're published 0-0. I probably won't even publish them under this name lol.

10. Is there anything you would like to be better at on aff? Writing, graphic design (posters), replying to comments, updating regularly, etc..?

UPDATING REGULARLY!!!!! x500000. Also, being better at graphic design would be cool.

11. How many subscribers do you have?

Total of 29 :') (i need to update- I want more people to read my stuff)

12. How many stories have you posted online to this day (finished and unfinished)?

4 on here but there's a total of 26 on all the fanfic sites I have accounts for.

13. How many stories do you have saved in your writing program?

....125 online......I have even more in notebooks.....

14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?

A bit of both. If my idea is strongly attached to a certain song, or word that I can instantly recall, I won't bother writing it down, but otherwise I will always write in down. I do this so often that me and my friends have this term called 'AU Attack' because I usually get ideas in the worst times possible lol.

15. Have you ever co-authored a story?

Nope. But I have done beta- reading for someone before.

16. How did you discover AFF?

I read a really good fic foreword on here but I needed to be a subscriber to read the whole thing.

17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author on AFF?

Definitely not lmoa.

18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?

No. Should I have one? I feel like this is something I should have though. I should actually start updating and stuff before I think of stuff like this, see. this is my problem.

19. Was there an AFF author who inspired or encouraged you to write?

Not really, because I'd already started writing about a year ago. I just thought that I could start stuff here.

20. How many karma points do you have?

161. I'm not on here a lot anymore, and I want to change my cringy name lol, it doesn't help.

21. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?

PLAN THE HELL OUT OF YOUR STORY! I cannot stress this fact enough. When publishing a fic, make sure that you've got at least two chapters more than you've published. So if you're going to publish your 3rd chapter, make sure you have a 4th and 5th one ready to be published, because you don't know what could happen in that time omg. It would save you in the long run, so if you have to take a haitus, you can publish these spare chapter when necessary. Make sure you have someone who's willing to listen/ read to what you've got so they can help you spot mistakes. Set a schedule for yourself and priortise things. If you have work to do but also fanfic to update, do the work first, even if it isn't fully. Don't give in to temptation. It'll only get worse omg. I could write a book as to what a writer should and shouldn't do, but I wouldn't be able to publish it, because I'm a hypocrite that falls for each and every 'don't do' there is to fall for. I wouldn't even be able to update it regularly lmaoo.

22. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?

It depends. Sometimes, I have a gist of the plot and it's just a matter of filling in the characters and putting in the dialogue. With Hold Me Tight, it's basically YoonMin travelling and developing their relationship from housemates to partners, and I'm trying to focus on how each place they visit together brings them. It's based on my travels to places and it's a self-indulgent fic because I don't see many, if any, fics set around England and the UK. But for stuff like To Taint An Angel, and The Adventures of Seokjin Kim, I really need to plan stuff out to make sure that there are as few plot holes as possible. I think it depends on what kind of story you have.

With me, I'll come up with whole dialogues and not know what kind of fic I want to put them in, and then I'll get an idea for a fic, but not know what to put in it, in terms or characters and a full, developed plot. I just end up combining ideas and it gives me a good start.

23. Have you ever gotten a bad review or comment on a story? If so, what did you do?

Not so much a bad review, but on another site, I'd apologised for not updating because I needed to prioritse my tiem due to my GCSE's (which are in under a month- why am I on here right now??), and I'd gotten a sarcastic comment about how I was apologising but still not updating. I ignored it at first, but a few months later, I was responding to all my comments and I thought that this person deserved a reply too. I sent them a long paragraph, and they apologised and regretted their past behavior, so it's all over. I'm thankful that I haven't had many issues with my fics so I hope that keeps up.

24. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, , etc..)

Intimate romantic scenes, and . I can't write at all. I'm not going to try to improve right now though lol.

25. What story(s) are you working on now?

I'm currently trying to work on Let's Not Fall in Love, because it's a Chen fic and I don't find many decent Chen fics anywhere :')

26. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?

Guilty as charged lol. I'm always getting new ideas for different fics when I'm trying to do work, or update an already existing and published work. I have no self-control.

27. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?

Not at the moment, I'm revising for GCSE so if I have free time, I'll just do it then. I'm hoping to spend my summer updating but I don't know exactly how well that's going to go.

28. Do you think you've improved as a writer since you first started?

Oh god, yes. But my writing can definitely get better. When I wrote my first fanfic, my OC was a goddamn Mary-Sue, and it was an eyesore, so I deleted it. I'm glad to say that my writing has greatly improved since that stage. My best writing stage was late 2015 to mid 2016 but my writing style is constantly evolving and I hope it improves because I'm trying out different styles. Hopefully I'll be able to settle on one.

29. What is your favorite story that you've written?

I like each of my stories for their own reason and though my readers can't see any of the evidence, I'm proud of everything that's saved in my drafts. I incorporate a little bit of myself into each story, whether it's an event or a said phrase to make it my own.

30. What is your least favorite story that you've written?

My first ever fanfiction is my least favourite, which I'm not going to even mention. I have the sudden urge to throw up when I think of it.

31. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?

More fics, even less updates. Stress, stress, stress. Lol just kidding. I'm not sure. I'm hoping to have all my currently published one finished by then and have established myself as a decent fanfiction writer.

32. How many upvotes do you have?

Oh god this is terrible. 3. It just comes to show that I can do a lot better. I'm not at my best yet, and I have so much more that I'm capable of but I'll just take things slowly lol.

33. What is the easiest thing about writing?

The easiest thing for me is to get an idea, but then I need to put a set of characters to that idea and then that's when the struggle begins lmao. I tend to get certain scenes in my head and on it's own it'll be okay but then I'll have a shell of an idea and so I combine the two things. Which helps lower the amounts of ideas and documents on my writing program.

34. What is the hardest thing about writing?

Conveying the actual meaning I want to send out. And updating.

35. Why do you write?

I write for all sorts of reasons. To vent, to express any other feelings, share my thoughts with the world. I'm too lazt to create an original story, so I write fanfiction as a foundation. I also really enjoy writing and it helps ease stress for me. I also really like the fact that so many other people enjoy the same stuff as me and it's a cool way to make new friends.
