PERSONALITY TRAITS
 

sober mijin : chill, almost too chill. as the rc, mijin has to make some of the toughest decisions out of the bunch. she decides just who is going to carry on the kdg legacy and who gets the boot. she always wants to make the best and fairest decision - which means she's going to look at the pnms and choose whoever is going to do kdg justice. 

quite the clever little charmer, this one. good thing too because if she's going to sway a jury in court, she better know just the right thing to say. don't get it twisted though, she's no liar. mijin is a person who will choose cold, hard facts over just 'a feeling'. well, to be honest, she doesn't get the whole 'feeling' thing to begin with. if someone wants to make the right decision, they should be certain about it right? stemming from this skepticism, mijin is quite hesitant when it comes to things she doesn't know about.

drunk mijin : usually one to try and stay somewhat sober, at least enough to mingle around possible recruits. she is always concious of her appearance to others, so she doesn't want to be flat out drunk dancing on tables and stripping off her cocktail dress.

but, like everyone else in college, there are those nights where she just wants to let loose and destress. so when those times do come around [cough. rush week] she'll go straight for the tequila because you can't be stressed when you're passed out. you also can't be involved in drama when you're passed out. which is one thing mijin tries to avoid - drama - but if she does get involved, she'll forgive you and never forget you.
 

as the result of a secret affair between a corrupt politician and a conniving journalist, mijin's birth was very hush-hush. she lived with her mother in their city apartment, paid for by her father - though she never knew that. as a child, mijin had her skepticism about not seeing her mother paying bills or worrying about money, but she never questioned it. parents always put on happy faces around their children, right?

as she aged, mijin began to notice all the whispers and short conversations between the adults around her. her mother's collegues talking behind their cubicles; her teachers gossiping in empty classrooms; her mother going into the other room to talk on her phone. it was odd and mijin didn't quite understand why, but her childhood naivety got the better of her. oh, what a wake-up call she would get in middle school.

before middle school, mijin had lived a pretty good life. although an only child, and her mother always working, she made the best of it. mijin would always go out and make her own friends, no matter who the person was. she just hated being left alone in that apartment. the silence killed her. it's always why she got along with everyone in her class. 

then the bomb hit. the truth about mijin's life came out. she, along with the rest of the country, found out who her father was. though mijin looked like she was relaxed and handling the whole thing, inside, she couldn't believe it. she had been living her whole life as a lie up until now. even though there still is no clear explanation as to who let the cat out of the bag, many thought it was mijin's mother who wrote about it herself as a way to ensure her daughter would always be cared for - but she always denied it.

so, that's just what happened. even though mijin's life was flipped upside down, she continued to live it as she always had. except now she came to the realization that both her parents didn't know the meaning of the word genuine. she continued to live with her mother with everything paid for by her father - whom she still never met face-to-face. honestly, she still doesn't have an exact response when people ask if she wants to meet him. would anything he said be truthful? or would their whole conversation be based on more lies? 

from then on mijin had told herself that she was only going to rely on the truth and try to bring out the truth in things [wow a true exposer, but like in that nonchalant way]. because of this, her teacher in high school had suggested she look into law. sure, there were corrupt parts of it, but you had to have facts and evidence and concrete reasoning behind what you said to seem credible to a jury. obviously something neither of her parents ever had.

so here's where mijin is now in life. a junior at hyeongsin university studying and learning all about her future career in law. a future where she's going to win her court cases using her charm and [credible] persuasion. morally, she didn't want to become like either of her parents - lying or cheating their way to success. mijin knew that if you worked hard enough, everything you wanted would come to you. it just might take a little longer.

PLOTLINE   the recruitment : #4, the standards : #2
MAJOR   pre-law major , criminal justice minor

THE MORNING : 8:00am - 1:40pm : "if you're five minutes early, then you're right on time." mijin never misses her classes, even if she doesn't give them all her attention. unfortunately, she got stuck with a few morning classes, but it turned out to be for the best because [during rush week] you can't be late to an 8am if you never went to bed.

THE AFTERNOON : 1:40pm - 3:00pm : mijin's afternoons are filled with lunch and studying - which translates to kihyun and her sitting at the campus coffee house getting their caffeine fix and stressing over their law classes. if he's busy, she's calling up one of her house sisters to go out for food.

THE NIGHT : 6:00pm - whenever she drops : she's either out mingling around or inside planning out future mingling. luckily all her classes are done before 6pm which means she has an ample amount of time to dedicate to the hlsa activities or discussing house issues or anything else that arises around the place with nayeon and ahreum. no matter what she's doing, mijin makes sure she's socializing - even though she doesn't show it, she can get anxious when she's alone.

THE CHAIR : as the owner of kdg's recruitment chair, mijin is always doing some type of planning. she likes the responsibilities and she feels like its helping her prepare for when she's drowning in court files. one thing she could change? stupid freshmen questions. those things aside, she knows that with pnms around, she has to pump up her energy levels [thanks caffeine] and show them just how exciting greek life can be.

"okay, slap on that cheesy smile and make sure every conversation you have doesn't include the awkward silence of death". - mijin, to herself in the mirror.

THE EVERYTHING ELSE :  living in the sorority house, mijin rooms with her big. the only downside about their arrangement is that dahye can be a bit of a pack rat. it's cute and all that she wants to keep all the finger paintings and macaroni collages her students make her, but mijin has lost sight of their bedroom walls. 
 

 

typing on her phone, mijin kept her head down. her interviewer, ahreum, leaned forward, and rather loudly, cleared . mijin looked up with her eyes, then set her phone on the table. sorry, rush week is right around the corner and i'm honestly swamped. ahreum snorted, "i know, just answer the stupid questions". mijin gave a cheesy grin. hello! i'm hwa mijin, the rc of kappa delta gamma. i'm well, thanks for asking.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO KAPPA DELTA GAMMA? 

mijin immediately responded. why wouldn't i choose kappa delta gamma? when i was rushing, this sorority was the best one out of them all. everyone was so nice, but there was just something about the kdg girls at the time that reeled me in, ya'know? mijin was silent for a moment, and then lowered her voice. if i'm going to be completely honest - some of the other sorority girls were totally lying about their sororities.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CURRENT EXEC BOARD? NO PRESSURE, YOU CAN BASH US, WE'LL PRETEND WE DIDN'T LISTEN. 

i think we're pretty cool. mijin pushed a piece of hair behind an ear. sure we each do things the other doesn't like, or gets annoyed by - but at the end of the day we're all here to make kappa delta gamma better and take back our reputation that tri delta on.

WHAT'S THE BEST AND WORST PART OF BEING IN A SORORITY, IN YOUR OPINION? 

mijin gave a small smile. the best part? the friendships you make that are going to last forever; the parties that make you forget about any stress you accumulated; and honestly just the atmosphere! it's a great feeling to be surrounded by people that you [most of the time] get along with. maybe it's just me, but i love being around people. her smile dissipated. and the worst part.. if i'm being honest, which i am, all the judging. people are always judging others around here. all the whispers about "did you hear so and so can't afford this" or "i can't believe she's worn yoga pants for three days now. doesn't she care about the recruitment?" like seriously. we're supposed to be sisters.

SO, UH, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE RIVALRY WITH TRI DELTA? 

mijin put on her usual poker face and motioned towards herself. oh, if someone is gonna feel about this rivalry it's gonna be me. jinye is out to get me. i'm not going to let her and the rest of them take over kdg's rightful spot because she's butthurt.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR CURRENT LIVING ARRANGMENTS? 

i'd love it if dahye would pick up her crap. mijin let out a short laugh. but she's my big and i've seen all her sides, so the last side i want to be on is her bad side. 

WELL, THIS IS ALL! SEE, I TOLD YOU IT WAS GOING TO BE QUICK. 

mijin clapped her hands together once. good! thank you - should i say thank you? her phone dinged, and she snatched it from the table. would you look at the time, i've got to go! lawyer in training things to do, ya'know. she waved and headed out the door.

HISTORY
 

you know how this kind of thing goes: girl meets boy; girl likes boy; girl chases boy.

well, this isn't how this goes. this story begins when these two met at a party one warm night. mijin was a sophomore living her first full year within the sorority; while jooheon was a junior that was pushing through yet another year of senioritis. the girls at kappa delta gamma were throwing one of their usual beginning of the year parties. it was going to set the tone for the rest of the year, and each one of those girls were playing their part to make it a party people wouldn't forget - and oh man, was it unforgetable.

the girls had invited quite a lot of people to this whole shebang, including the boys of upilson chi. mijin's good friend, kihyun, was apart of the frat and she had always heard good things, so she figured the whole night would be a breeze. people would come; party; take shots together. you know, normal party activities - and all-in-all, things were going well!

.. and then jooheon showed up.

mijin had seen this boy once or twice before when she was over at upilson chi to pick up kihyun, but she never actually spoke to him [but the kid was always either asleep on the couch nursing a hang-over or off to god knows where]. she had asked about him to kihyun before, but he always brushed it off saying jooheon was just a dork. so, kinda harmless, right?

sure, harmless until he started drinking. when jooheon got into his party mode, he was wild. pouring drinks, shouting nonsense, and volunteering random people to take shots with him all over the house. if the venue wasn't kdg, people would of probably thought upilson chi were the hosts of this party - jooheon was everywhere.

things began to tumble downhill when jooheon's attitude changed. a guy had bumped into him by accident, causing jooheon to spill his drink down the front of his shirt. an arguement had ensued and soon after, punches were being thrown. some party goers were rooting them on, while others were yelling at them to quit. kihyun and mijin were close by and got closer to see what the commotion was. when they saw the two wrestling on the ground, all mijin could think about was how much trouble they were going to get into if they broke something.

kihyun and herself pushed through the crowd and attempted to pull the boys apart. their voices mingled with the others as they grabbed at limbs. mijin managed to grab onto jooheon's arm and pull him back a bit, but what she didn't prepare for was him trying to free his arm quite so harshly. he bent his arm and threw his elbow back, colliding straight into mijin's face. the room went silent and jooheon turned around, realizing he hit something, well, someone.

mijin covered her face and staggered back, letting out a loud yell. without missing a beat, jooheon [drunkenly] grabbed mijin's face with his hands, stumbling over his apologetic words. "what are you doing? let me go, ." mijin squirmed. "don't worry, you. i will fix this, yes." he was leaning in to plant sloppy kisses on mijin's injury, but before he could, and before any of the other sorority girls could get a hold of him, kihyun dragged the boy out of the house by his collar. 
 

mijin woke up the next day with a purple bruise the size of jooheon's elbow in the middle of her cheek. she almost screamed. how was she going to talk to people looking like this? how much concealer would it take to cover this? would the whole thing even be able to be covered? 

in the following days, mijin always caught jooheon out of the corner of her eye stalking around her. whenever he got the chance, he'd approach her and try to apologize for that night at the party. this poor boy - he truly felt horrible, but every time he tried, mijin would give a nod and walk away. mijin did forgive him, multiple times, it just never seemed sincere enough and jooheon could sense that she was still heated over it.

jooheon was left with his final resort. he caught mijin while she was walking back to the sorority from class. this boy kneeled in front of her and grabbed her hand in his, spouting out word after word of how sorry he was, and that he would make it up to her. mijin didn't have any room to say anything in this conversation. "i'll do anything if you'll forgive me." he finished.

..and from then on, mijin realized what a mistake she'd made. she now had a shadow - a very annoying shadow. at least there was an upside to this decision. jooheon would do anything for mijin, anything. it wasn't morally wrong to mijin because both of them shook on it. it was an agreement between the two, and it wasn't her fault he didn't state any boundaries.

helping organize recruitment things; deciding clothing options; shopping for more clothes - well, holding the clothes and bags. jooheon soon found out why pledges called her Hades for his own reasons. "we both shook on this, remember?" mijin brings up whenever he gets whiny. but don't worry, jooheon decided he'd play dirty too. every chance he got, he'd find a way to irk mijin. he hadn't set boundaries for this arrangement, and neither had she. he's always nagging mijin to get out more and be spontaneous, but she's having none of it. "bad decisions lead to bad outcomes." how ironic is that sentence.

at this point, mijin can't wait for jooheon to graduate and be out of her life. the thing she doesn't know is that that boy's going to leave a huge void in her life. all her life she's lived by the truth and pros and cons. this boy brought spontaneity into her life, in one form or another, and broadened her horizons [even if it was just ordering coffee with cream]. it's just bad that she doesn't see it that way.
