Koreaboos

I know a good amount of people won't watch the video, but for the few who do, I stumbled upon this video last year and never shared it. Yet the word on multiple social media sites, Facebook, Asianfanfics, and ecpecially KpopAmino seems to be thrown around so carelessly. If you actually watch and listen to this video, I hope that you'll be as enlightened as I was.

I used to watch Koreaboo cringe videos for enjoyment, but after viewing this, not anymore. Why? Many of the people who upload those videos don't ask for permission, and thousands of people view and laugh at those videos for enjoyment. Ever been online bullied? Whelp that's exactly it.

Koreaboos aren't criminals, so why do we make fun of them, embarrass them, and label them instead of telling them right from wrong?

In fact, as stated in the video, (a real mind opener) no one is king! No one can state who is a good Kpop fan and how they should act, and what exactly crosses the line that makes you a Koreaboo. Anyway, that was my short rant?

I really can't type out my feelings as well as the video above, so I highly suggest you watch it!

Live your lives!

I feel like people use the word too much when just talking about people who really love KPOP and Korean culture in the states a lot (I've been called it a lot by people in my city literally just because they heard me listening to SNSD once or because I have Big Bang merch). But at the same time, I think that there is such a thing as an actual Koreaboo which I personally consider to be someone who is all Korea, all the time, but have no really motivation to actually get closer to anything actually Korean besides the music and a few words they picked up in K-Dramas. Like people who never make any attempts to even kind of learn the language, but then use Korean words in every day speech (I admit I do this, but most of the time when I'm doing it, I'm actually trying to form complete or mostly complete Korean sentences so I can try and get as much practice as possible without having that many people around me to speak Korean to. And to me, that's fine, though it may be different from others' perspectives.) when it's not necessary and doesn't really make sense. But I do agree that a lot of what 'koreaboos' get online is needless hate that is honestly really just bullying to someone. I feel like a lot of it is unnecessary when instead you could actually have a conversation with someone you feel isn't doing the culture right. Kinda like in J.Lee's last blog how she said that she wants people to instead of just using the little bit they heard in a song or drama to actually try and learn the language and respect the culture. I feel like instead of stupid videos making fun of people, KPOP and Korea fans should be trying to educate and help those 'koreaboos' actually learn more about the culture and language and other ways to appreciate it.
That's just my 2 cents.
