the princess motherly, genuine, confident

naive, stubborn, narcissistic the pauper

go mari is the epitome of a privileged princess. she lives with a golden spoon attached to , and has never really experienced a great level of stress because of her social standing. she loves her wealth and loves all of the benefits that come with it. despite being a little cocky about herself, mari is an incredibly motherly person, and takes care of others well. she learned a lot about hospitality and how to treat her guests from her parents and ettiquete classes that she was forced to take, but it's paid off. often times, people would think of her as a spoiled child, but in reality, she's actually very caring, and that's attributed to the motherly aura she exudes. if someone's hurt or upset, mari is always there to tend to them and their needs; it just depends on the other person to take her up on the offer, but many don't. a lot of people don't realize that mari is actually very genuine as well. she's honest with anything she does, and is an authentic person. she cares for those in her life, and is very sincere with everyone. if she doesn't like something, then she doesn't like it; if she loves something, then she loves it; mari is incredibly straightforward and hates playing guessing games, so she'll make sure that everyone knows how she's truly feeling, no matter what it is. mari is confident. she doesn't falter to her doubts, and knows her worth. she doesn't settle for less, and is incredibly self-assured. she is the girl who loves every single feature, and owns her flaws like they're nothing. if you ever wanted a confidence boost from someone, go to go mari. she'll boost you and herself anyday.

however, she tends to be quite naive. maybe it's because she hadn't been exposed to many things as a kid, or maybe it's because she likes to see the good in people (or maybe she just thinks that everyone loves her because who wouldn't?), but mari is incredibly gullible. she lacks judgment, and people often take advantage of her because of that. they see the weak judgment that she possesses, and latch onto it for who knows how long, but poor mari never realizes until it's too late. she's also very stubborn when it comes to things that she cares about a lot. she stands by her opinions and doesn't budge easily, and hates having to compromise. she would fight day and night to get what she wanted, and is incredibly demanding in that aspect. even when she is faced with a good reason as to why her opinion is wrong, mari is annoyingly firm, and still sticks to her opinion, which angers a lot of people. it can be especially annoying because she doesn't stop for anyone or anything. she'll willingly do almost anything to get what she wants and is a little manipulative about it, being sly and clever with how to proceed, but regardless of what happens, mari will do anything to ensure that she gets it. she'll stubbornly push buttons and ignore countless 'no's, just for the sake of it, and it gets really annoying at times. as expected, because of her beautiful features and pretty fashion sense, mari's love for herself is quite inflated. her ego is bigger than a hot air balloon, and she doesn't even bat a lash when people compliment her because she already knows that everything about her is incredibly beautiful. due to that, she has a superiority complex, and feels that she's practically better than everyone because of her wealth and her beautiful looks. don't be surprised when you catch her complimenting herself; she loves doing it, and other people hate hearing it. it's a little annoying having to hear the same person whining about how people don't compliment her as much as they should, and how she's practically a goddess compared to all the girls at joongdong high. it gets really old, and she always has to have someone shut her up, otherwise, she'd never shut up about how pretty she is.

table of contents

go mari was born on a bone-chilling november night in the brink of 1999, and was raised with a shimmery golden spoon in her tiny mouth. her father had started a cafe franchise called grande cafe, and it was slowly becoming popular with each and everyday, and her mother was an incredibly successful stockbroker, so her parents pulled in a very large income. because of her mother's small body type, she couldn't handle another kid, so mari was the only child of the family, making her even more precious and important. while she was growing up, she was quite lonely a lot of the time; her parents were always working and her grandparents weren't around, so she only had a maid attend to her needs, but other than that, she was pretty lonely. mari could never go out to a park and play with other kids because there was no one that could take her, and her parents often came home at late hours too. of course, they spoiled her lots, and gave her everything she demanded because of how lonely she was, but that could never make up for the times where she had no one to turn to, except for her favorite stuffed animals.
however, as she grew up, her parents became a lot more stable with their jobs, and could return home to be with their child, and these were the happiest moments of mari's life. her father had opened up multiple cafe locations, and even made a franchise out of it, with many new stores popping up each year. it had steadily become one of korea's most loved cafes, due to its cute items, unique creations, and cozy atmosphere. due to the various franchises opening up, mari's father had a looser role in the management part, but a bigger part with being the ceo. he brought a lot of money to the family, but with that, his obligations became muddled, and he had to balance work with his home life, thus causing him to stay in the office a lot. mari was used to this already, but it was a bit sad; she missed her father, but having her mother with her helped a lot. initially, mari wasn't too keen on going to a private school because she thought the uniform was ugly, so she made her parents send her to a public school, and you can bet that they sent her to the best public elementary school they could find. at first, mari was incredibly selfish and annoying; she demanded everything from the other children and was the biggest jerk to everyone, causing her to be the #1 hated kid there. people refused to be near her, and she was entirely confused; why are the other kids avoiding a gem like her? she didn't hang out with anyone, except for her kindergarten teacher for most of the year, and it was rough. ms. cho, her teacher, had always tried to encourage mari to interact with the other kids, but mari didn't want to, saying that they were all mean to her. ms. cho was kind about it, and explained that maybe she had to be a little nicer to them, but mari couldn't comprehend. she was nice enough as is, why did she have to be nicer? ms. cho was gentle, ms. cho was kind, and ms. cho taught mari how to be a good person. it was a shame that by the time mari had become a decent person to be around, she already had to leave ms. cho and go to middle school. the two stayed in contact, however, and even in high school, mari still talked to ms. cho, though not as frequently as she used to.

mari had a relatively normal experience in middle school, and at the high school she was at before she was enrolled in joongdong, but it wasn't really memorable. she was tolerable, and had a few friends, but in the beginning of her sophomore year of high school, she was forced to move to america because of her father's work circumstances. he was looking to open locations in america, and her mother wanted to tag along with him, which meant that mari had to go too. they resided in the upper east side of manhattan for about a year, and it was an interesting experience. she struggled with english - a whole lot. mari did know some english prior, but wasn't very good at it, and being in new york was a struggle. thankfully, there were a lot of korean people there that had helped her out a lot, but she had the hardest time in new york. everything was different, and it was strange, and you could probably imagine her excitement when her family was moving back to korea again. this time, they moved into an even more luxurious home, and mari went to joongdong high school, instead of the high school she studied at before. starting anew as a junior, mari became popular for her wealth, and the fact that her father was the number one donor of the school. students judge her for using her family's influence to get what she wants, but mari isn't petty like that, or at least in her opinion she isn't. she joined the drama club, and instantly irritated other students because of the fact that she got lead roles, despite her being new. to her, though, she didn't care; she knew she had talent, however cocky that sounded. overall, mari is either liked or disliked, but she was always reknown for her looks and wealth, and no one could go against that.

family

go hyunsik + father + 48
go mari's father is an extremely successful businessman, and is the ceo of his startup cafe franchise, which is now pretty popular in south korea. he dotes on mari a lot, since she is his only child, and tends to spoil her quite a bit, due to the fact that she's his little girl. he'd do anything for her, and mari knows that very well.

go rena + mother + 45
mari and her mother share a close relationship, and are pretty similar in things, such as the fact that they both enjoy nice clothes and eating luxurious foods, which is partially provided to them by mari's father's franchise, and rena's job as a stockbroker. however, rena is particularly much more mature, compared to mari, and they differ in opinions at time because of that. however, the pair spend lots of time together, and mari always goes to her mother for advice.

friends

lee jaeun + 19
not many people truly like mari, and the spoiled brat knows that, but jaeun has always been there for mari. she's not always there physically, but she's always there emotionally, and that's all mari could've ever asked for. they met in middle school, and while jaeun disliked mari for a bit, they eventually settled their differences and  became close to each other. out of all her friends, jaeun is the realest one.

yoo sakyung + 18
sakung isn't really mari's friend, but mari thinks otherwise. she's quite fond of the girl, but in reality, sakyung only uses mari for her money. she manipulates her to get the latest things for free, and doesn't feel bad for doing so. she's fake, and she's not the only one who uses mari like that.

han gayoung + 18
like sakyung, gayoung isn't really mari's friend. she and sakyung use her for her wealth, and luckily for them, mari is a good person, even with her shortcomings, and it's easier for them to use her to their liking. gayoung is relatively wealthy, but that doesn't stop her from using mari and her resources to get things that she likes, whether it be a boy or a new item of clothing.

others

oh jiae + 18
jiae is mari's biggest rival in school at the moment. jiae is against mari for the spot of prom queen, and the spoiled brat cannot accept that. for a beauty like her, mari definitely needs to be prom queen, no matter what it takes. it just might be a little hard, due to the fact that she's probably the most popular girl in the school, and mari isn't well admired by many.

the cover art

go mari is unscarred, and beautifully sculpted, as if she was the prized work of michaelangelo himself. she may be only 154 cm tall, but her weight of 45 kg magnificently balances out her proportions very well; mari is known for her sleek, yet honey-like thighs that can make any boy drool from hunger, and her s-line body is relatively spectacular in itself. a silky paleness transcends throughout her skin, as she claims to use a dozen skincare products a night, and avoids the sun like it's the plague, causing her skin to be quite pasty. long brown hair travels across her back, smoother and shinier than anyone has ever seen, and always beautifully styled, whether it be pinstraight, or curls that resemble the waves of an ocean. her features are all natural, ranging from her sharp jawline to the natural curve of her s. she tends to stay on the more natural side of makeup, and prefers looks, rather than bright, flashy colors. despite the plain shades that a peachy can bring, she works it quite well, using it to her advantage. her lips are always tinted a beautiful shade of pinkish red, and a small blush adorns her cheeks, creating a refreshing look on the canvas of her face.

if go mari was good at one thing, it was showing off her body like the asset it is. she knows what clothes are the best for her body shape, and she works her school uniform like it was a limited edition gucci item. she wears it casually, with the jacket ed, and the first button of her polo ed as well, since she finds it "uncomfortable" to have it all buttoned. on warmer days, mari skips out on wearing her jacket overall and usually ties up her hair to keep her from forming sweat. it's a little normal for the girls in her school to do this, but mari wears spandex under her skirt, so that she minimizes the damage that boys can do to her; and also, having to be extra careful everyday isn't mari's style, so she'd rather not lose the spandex. however, if she isn't wearing her uniform, mari has a pretty trendy and chic, yet a form-fitting and casual sense of style. she is quite versatile in what she wears, but if it isn't a brand name, she won't even cast a glance at it. mari is more interested in the higher quality brands, and quite honestly, you would never catch her a hundred feet from a thrift shop. mari is always searching up the new trends, and her closet is full of clothes that she's only worn a few times, unsurprisingly. she prefers pastel colors the best, which explains why you'll mostly see her in the light, spring-like tones, or the occasional monochromatic look. she's a huge fan of luxurious jewelry, and can be seen donning earrings and bracelets, along with a necklace once in a while. other than that, mari isn't too fond about hats or scarves, or actually, anything other than shiny objects, so you'll probably never see her in them. mari owns all sorts of shoes, from heels to tennis shoes alike, and unlike her clothes, she tends to wear them more than once. all in all, go mari is a girl with an exotic taste, and a beautiful appearance to match.

STRANGERS

KIM DONGYOUNG, NCT

personality

mark lee is a boy that everyone loves. he is laidback, humorous, and goes with the flow of things. in all of joongdong high, there probably isn't a single soul that hates him, just because mark is such a good person, inside and out. he looks a little immature and silly, if you're only looking at his features, but once you get to know him, he's amazingly kind and a genuinely amazing person to be around. he's gentle, sweet, and cares for every individual around him, whether they're close or not. he's the mood maker of the group, the one that makes all of the people in the room chuckle, regardless on how their day went. he's the light that shines with optimism, and surprisingly, he never wavers. he's friendly and quite approachable. he's observant and sees more than people think. he's ambitious towards his goals, and quite confident in what he does. mark lee is the definition of an angel, and it's a wonder how he could be so perfect.

but he's not perfect. he tends to be a bit offputting towards people that don't treat him well. despite his angelic appearance and soft features, mark isn't always the nicest out there. he can be a little vicious too. he can be a little angry at times. he lashes out at others for no reason some days. he doesn't think of his words and their impact before saying it. he is a bit conceded at times, due to people always complimenting him and girls swooning over his looks. he can be selfish too. he may be kind and gentle and intelligent in all aspects, but mark is no angel; he is tactless, he is vain, he is stubborn. when he gets those days where he just doesn't feel good at all, people usually ignore him and forget about his presence, but other days, when he's feeling great and amazing, they love him and want to be with him. mark lee isn't perfect, and isn't even close; but mark lee is happy with who he is.

your first meeting

mark and mari first met because of the prom commiteee. mari had never met mark before, much less had seen him in the hallways, but mark was quite aware of go mari. he had heard rumors that she was a complete brat, and very annoying with the fact that she had money. he was pretty neutral with everyone, but when he saw that he had to work with mari in the prom commitee, he wasn't entirely pleased about that. the members had to introduce themselves, and mari didn't care about mark at all, and he the same with her. they both said their respective names and some interesting fact about themselves (of course mari had to say something about her family and her rich life), making mark even more disgusted with her. he hated how she bragged and flaunted her wealth around, and it may have been because he was jealous, but it was annoying, regardless, and mark was pretty disappointed that she got in. he felt like she only got in because of her money and not her qualifications, and it irked him greatly. though, surprisingly, mark had found out that mari wasn't as dumb as he thought she was, and was quite well-versed. he initially thought of her as an idiot who only knew how to spend money, but she had good ideas for the commitee, and mark was alright with that. her wanting to be prom queen and fighting against oh jiae was so trivial to him, and he thought it was so incredibly dumb for them to be fighting over a title that actually means nothing in the real world. mari was easing into getting to know the boy, but immediately from the start, she could tell that he wasn't quite that fond of her. she doesn't understand why he's the most loved guy in all of joongdong high, since he's super prickly and not even cute in the slightest. mari saw how kind he was to others, but then it came to her, and he seemed disgusted to be talking to her, which annoyed her - how could he possibly act that way to a future ceo?! she was shaken and the pair got off to a rough start. granted, he was a little bit funny, but mari wasn't keen on him, and never laughed at his jokes (but some of them are good, she'd just never admit that, but they're good). she hated the way he belittled her, despite him being an individual that wasn't nearly as good and successful as her, and mark felt the same way. needless to say, they didn't share positive sentiments towards each other.

interactions

mark doesn't really like mari - at all. it's a little frustrating for the both of them to work together when they are always at odds with one another, and mari can't even begin to count the amount of times where she's begged ms. lim so hard to take him out of the committee, but to no avail. mark, per usual, always rolls his eyes at how she attempts to use her cash to try and get what she wants, and hates how manipulative she is. he is curious as to how she was even considered for the committee, but he's a little too stubborn to admit that she does work pretty hard and has good ideas. mari's irritating as heck to him, but she's genuine, and he's a little bit surprised about that; he would have thought that a girl born in riches and spoiled with luxury would be more conniving and sly than mari actually is, and as the pair are forced to work more with each other, the less they argued (it was mostly because mari was tired of fighting a jerk like him, and mark was starting to see the good side of the brat, so the pair slowly, but surely started to get along). at first, it was a shock to the committee members because they were so used to having to break up their fights and arguments, but they haven't been seeing the need to anymore. mari is also quite confused about this change, since mark has also been treating her nicer than he used to, which was a confusing shift. she wasn't sure how to go about with it; it was strange and unlike her to feel so conflicted about a person, but it was a strange situation that she's never even encountered before, so what could she do?
gradually, the pair became friends with each other, and that confused the heck out of everyone even more. what in the world happen to these two? how come they went from enemies to friends? well, mari can't explain it either, but she feels a certain pull towards mark. he treats her like she's a normal girl, something she's never felt before, and never even asks her about her wealth. sure, he'll ask her about her parents and her favorite color and what music she likes to listen to, but he never really talks about her money, and mari is oddly very happy about that. regardless of who she was with before, whether it be strangers or friends, they always asked her about her money, and she was so proud of how rich she was, and flaunted it around carelessly. she offered things to people that only used her for her money, she hung around with those that complimented her, in hopes of getting close to her, and more. she had never truly met someone like mark, who had treated her so... normally. she loved it, and she also loved how he made her feel; special, cared for, and treasured. he was sweet, kind, gentle, and more. he was all mari had ever dreamed for in a friend, and it wasn't surprising to her when she came to figure it out, but mari was madly crushing on mark lee.

end game

go mari was lost. she had never crushed on anyone before, and it was usually the opposite: guys crushed on her first, and she wasn't one to falter because they're not her type or were up to her standards. she didn't know what to do with mark. with every passing day, she felt her heart beat incessantly for the silly individual, and she wasn't sure how to cross the line from friends to lovers. mari had read a lot of romance novels and manga, but it was a situation that she still was not able to navigate. she struggled a lot, and was incredibly shy with him. contrary to the fact that people think of mari as a snotty, independent girl, she can be pretty timid at times, and is especially so with mark. she was skittish, and often cringed at her dumb conversations with him, but mark is too kind and sweet and amazing and all these words that she can't even begin to express, and he goes along with the conversation very well, making her feel wanted. but the thing was, mark made a lot of people feel good. he was someone that everyone liked being around, and mari was no exception. she was unsure if mark liked her back, or if he was just being friendly, but one thing is for sure, and that thing is that mari would die if he rejected her. she couldn't risk it; she was scared. she didn't know what to do, but she knew that she had to snatch him as her prom date before another girl did, so she pulled her pants up, and marched right up to him, asking if he'd go with her to prom. it wasn't fancy or elaborate, which was something mari had wanted for her senior year, and she would have liked it if the guy had asked, but this time, she didn't care. she didn't care for a little bit. she just wanted to go to prom with mark, and her palms were sweaty, her legs were trembling, and her heart beat faster than the speed of light, while she prayed that he would say yes. mark, being mark, agreed, and mari felt a lot of relief; she did something that she had never done, and on the other side, mark was incredibly surprised. he thought she would prefer to be the one asked and would want a fancy asking, so it was an exhilarating shock for him to see her go up to him and ask in such a casual way. he loved how she pushed aside her big and exotic ways, even getting a bit of courage to ask him, and he liked it a lot; almost just as much as the love he had for her. mark lee, a not-as-rich and very lacking boy, had fallen for go mari, who was a very sweet and intelligent, albeit a relatively cocky and snotty girl, but he still liked her a lot. he just didn't know how to go about with it, and was even planning on asking hr anyways, but her asking him pretty much just cemented his feelings for her. he wasn't sure if she liked him back, but at least he knew that she had positive feelings for him now. it was a long and excrutiating experience for him to have to coordinate with her dress and the details of prom because of how perfect she wanted it to be, but he pulled through, and it was worth it to see the brilliant smile that had taken over mari's face when she saw him, while he came to pick her up. she couldn't explain it, but she found him so charming in a nicely fitted tux. he was tall, and manly, totally her type, and he treated her very well. they went off to eat  at a place that mark had chosen (lucky for him because mari would have broken his wallet) and  they took pictures, before going to the dance. at this point, mari didn't care too much about prom queen anymore. she barely even thought about it. it didn't occupy her mind, but how could it when she saw mark grinning so brightly right in front of her? she had never fallen so hard, but with mark, it just felt so right. she finds herself so entranced with him, and it's the same for him, but neither of them were willing to confess, until they got to the last song, and it was a slow dance. it was awkward because they did not know what the heck they were trying to do because slow dancing as friends was weird when they both had a crush on each other, but mari, once again, took the extra step and confessed. she spilled her heart out and told mark about how she liked him so much it was suffocating her, and how she just wanted to be with him, despite the differences that they may have. mark was taken aback, and it was strange; he didn't think that she had the same feelings he did, and again, he had fallen in love with how she had taken the initiative to confess her love. it made him feel like he wasn't even worth her love, but mari assured him that he was. she had never liked someone the way she liked him, and it was strange for her to hold back, but now she didn't want to hold back anymore. she wanted to love him wholeheartedly, and it was the same for mark. he knew that he was no match for a strong and beautiful girl like go mari, but he knew that he could at least try to become deserving of her love, and that's what he did, as the pair confirmed, once again, their mutual love for the other, and becoming the couple that they never would've thought they would be.

COUPLE TRIVIA

+ even though mari is into luxurious things and showing off what she has, she prefers to be more laidback and casual with mark. he treats her like she's just a normal girl, and she loves it even more than showing off her wealth.
+ despite her being more casual with mark, they still experience moments where they have no idea what the other is talking about, since they were raised in different environments, but they still make it a point to teach the other about it.
+ their favorite activity is to lay in either person's backyard and stare at the stars together.
+ mari's parents didn't like mark at first, due to the fact that he wasn't of the same background as them, and they didn't like how their little girl was taken away from them, but when they finally got to meet him, they fell in love with his intelligence and personality.
+ they have a couple song, and it's really cringy, but it's "ordinary love" by park kyung.
+ whenever they have fights, it's usually mari who's the clingier one, whereas mark acts slightly "colder" to her, but they both know that mark is the one that has the most love in the relationship - mari is only a small distance behind him though.
+ mark is mari's protector; he knows who's being fake to her or not, and is usually the one trying to get her away from those who'd hurt her. she tends to be a little naive, but mark makes up for it (you already know he kicked out sakyung and gayoung out of mari's life).
+ mark can't sing, but he can rap quite well, so mari loves to listen to him rapping, even though he doesn't do it often.
+ they call each other every moment they can; at night, when they're both doing homework; in the mornings, when they're both getting ready; in the afternoon, when they're both eating; you just have to name it.
+ to be quite honest, mark is a slightly jealous guy, so when he sees mari getting hit on when they're out, he gets a little bit annoyed, even though he tries his best to hide it (mari always knows though).
