Poem 1

So, on March 10, I participated in a poetry slam.  I didn't win, but I feel like the judging was bit biased because the top 5 did theirs on the same topic except for one person.  I don't mean to offend anyone, and if you're offended tell it someone who cares.  It's just that I'm so tired of African Americans acting like no other race or color was enslaved (Native Americans!) or that they're the only ones discriminated against.  Truthfully, these days, they themselves are doing the discrimination.  They make fun of Asians and Muslims (Arabs and all others) and then they write poems and songs as if they're still victims.  I'm not saying they don't have a write to remember their history and their people, but they need to open their eyes.  They need to see the present.  The say they hate Donald Trump because he's racist.  He has only ever said things against Mexicans and Muslims.  Please just get over yourselves and stop spreading Islamophobia.  ISIS is more likely to ban countries who act against Muslims anyway.  Sorry for the rant, and please tell me if you see any typos.  Anyways, without further ado. ^^'

Labels

Why must humans label things?

Humans label everything and everyone

Whether they have fur, feather, or wings.

Some labels are accepted, others are there to shun.

Why must this be so?

They discriminate even without intention.

It doesn't matter if they are friend or for.

They do it all without another mention.

Now, there are civil rights actions.

They are just lies made to enable.

They allow discrimination, dividing people into factions.

Calling people racists, isn't that a label?

Labels have become a part of fate.

Your uality, gender, race

Everything is a reason for hate.

Your hair, body, face

People are called ugly and fat,

They are body shamed.

They are trampled underfoot like a mat.

The ones that conform to society are famed.

Why not the people true to themselves?

Why are the ones in disguise the ones who receive praise?

Were you meant to live life with your true self placed on the shelves?

The people who aren't slaves to society are told they're in a phase.

When people try and lose weight

They're called paranoid or anorexic.

People are bullied because they've never been on a date.

They aren't the ones who have a problem, it's society that's sick.

If you try, you're told that you try too hard

If you don't, you're called a slob.

This is a society where you're liked for your credit card.

Styles switching, today long hair and tomorrow a bob.

You wallet is depleted by you keeping up with trends.

Who cares if you haven't eaten a decent meal in weeks?

For someone popular there is no such thing as real friends.

The ones who have real friends are the nerds and geeks.

Because they don't care about people who don't matter.

They know who they are and who their friends are.

They don't care if others say that they're crazier than the Mad Hatter.

As long as their friends are by their side, they shine like the brightest star.

Everyone should take a page out of their books.

Reading isnt lame, those who do aren't automatically bookworms and nerds.

We should care about more than just looks.

It's about more than just pretty faces and pretty words.

It doesn't matter if you're athletic or attractive.

One day you'll lose all that as old age claims you.

Instead find people who aren't afraid to give,

Find people who aren't afraid to give you love, caring, and the hard truth too.

Humans need to live without giving everything names.

Life is men at to be lived in a way you want until your last breath,

Whether what you want is fun and games

Or to live entirely devoted to your religion even in death.

Be free and live as a some one.

Don't live as a something.

As long as you're you, you're the one who won,

You control your life, not any queen or king.
