I just want to say I'm sorry for all of America

I'm sorry. I'm so, terribly sorry. This... thing, this man who was elected to be our 45th president is a sad realization for me. At first, I, as well as many Americans, took Trump's announcement to run for president as a joke. With all his cruel words, horrendous English, and raging tweets, no one (whom I associate with) believed he would ever win. I remember, that the day after the election felt surreal. It was cloudy and gloomy, and my university seemed to be in mourning. One of my professors had been so distraught that she had to leave early. No one wanted to talk about what was happening or what would happen. People were still in shock and hadn't quite wrapped their head around it. The rest of November and December passed with as little as a glance in regards to Trump. People tried to push it from their minds for as long as possible. But, they couldn't avoid it forever.

Now, Donald Trump has only been in office for eleven days and has already hit the fan. It's hard to discern fact from fiction nowadays. I try to stay informed and up-to-date, but it's hard when half of the media out there just wants to lie or use "alternative facts". THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS ALTERNATIVE FACT! THOSE ARE CALLED LIES! Trump has no problem putting down anyone who isn't a white, rich, heteroual, Christian man, but as soon as any news outlet or group call him out he calls them bullies.

To all those who may be affected by his "Muslim ban" or know someone who is, I'm so sorry. What he's doing is the act of a child who doesn't understand or want to play with others. That's the only thing I can think of. Because, Muslims aren't a group to be feared. Sure, there are some radicals, but there are radicals in almost all religous groups. Christians were no different - remember the Crusades? As a whole, people need to realize that radicals hijack their own religion. It hurts everyone. In Cairo in 2011, Christians joined hands to protect a group of Muslims during prayer. This is what we should strive for. We are all humans. We are all made up of nitrogen, carbon, phosphorous, hydrogen and the likes. So what that we have different gods? All religions express love. Love yourself, love thy neighbor. That's universal.

The same can be said for anyone who isn't "straight". Whether you're gay, lesbian, bi, trans, questioning, inter, or aual, you're still one of us. You're human. That's all that matters. Trump has stated he will sign the FADA which would allow businesses to discriminate anyone who falls in any of the aforementioned groups if it's for religous reasons. For example, someone who could tell a gay man he can't shop in his store, because the store owner says his ual orientation goes against his religion. Trump states that America was built on the freedom of religion and that making discrimination illegal goes against that freedom. Apparently, that's all he read about the first amendment. James Madison, one of the founding fathers, originally had it so it read, "The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretencem infringed." It clearly states that as an America, we have the right to practice any religion as long as it doesn't impede anyone else's civil rights!

As an American with a heart - who understands that we're all cut from the same cloth - I stand with you. I stand with anyone and everyone who supports humanity and love. You don't have to agree with someone's choices, but you have to accept that it's their choice to make. I will fight for your rights - as well as my own - these next four years. Yes, these years will be tough. And yes, I'll cry more than I'll admit. But, we won't take this treatment laying on our backs. We'll fight for what is constitutionally right. To all those who are suffering under this presidency, or simply appalled by it, I stand with you.
