GO SUYEON IS A KAPPA DELTA GAMMA
english · advanced. upon deciding that she wanted to become a doctor (quite early in her life, around the age of seven), suyeon immediately decided that learning english was crucial in the process towards her goal. she had been studying it ever since and her skills within the language are quite impressive. when reading and writing is concerned, there isn't a flaw to be seen, however when speaking, it's a little bit of a different story. although she speaks english rather well and her articulation and sentence construction is be any means, acceptable, her korean accent is a little over-powering and makes her english harder to understand. however, she is continually working on it and is definitely improving. her english knowledge is not limited to only everyday conversation, but she is additionally well versed in medical terms as many of them are indeed taught in english.
suyeon dresses rather plainly, straying away from any patterns that aren't plaid. a particulary sort of feminine flair to her choices, many items that she layers on top add a mature kick to it all. often times suyeon will look as if she's stepped out of an american apparel ad or off a shoot for unif. short sleeves aren't her favourite, the large sleeves would droop and accentuate the gangly nature of her limbs, forcing her to keep her coat on in weather that well and truly did not need it. despite this, if suyeon feels like wearing that khaki green tennis skirt even though it's close to snowing outside, she'll put it on without a second thought — if it looks cute, then the weather can be endured with a dainty pair of thigh-high socks or stockings.
skirts and shorts are the usual go-to, her plethora of denim shorts is rather impressive, as well as her plain (mainly long-sleeved) t-shirt collection, it actually looks like she's cleared the shelf at the local as colours store — every shade of grey to eggshell to powder blue. on the occasions where suyeon does feel that the weather might be a bit too cold for a miniskirt, she does own the obligatory pair of mom jeans, that she rocks pretty iconically with a leather belt and chunky chelsea boots. however, in the depths of winter, the way suyeon primarily combats the freezing temperatures is outerwear. if there was anything suyeon would pride herself in within her closet, it'd be her coat collection. flight-style bomber jackets, thick peacoats or calf-length slouch coats, hoodies or even hsu branded sweatshirts, suyeon loves a nice, warm coat. it's not rare to see suyeon wear a pretty thin layer of clothing under and top it off with a plush, dark-grey knee-length wrap coat. her best excuse for this is the ease of removal — she's constantly going in and out of laboratories, and so if she can easily hang them up in exchange for comfort in her white labcoat, then she'll do so.
suyeon's choice of shoes usually vary from sneakers (vans, adidas originals, stan smiths, common projects, converse all stars, ultraboosts) to leather boots (heeled chelsea boots, 8-eye doctor martens) and the occasional pair of pumps of strappy heels, for events and parties.

any peer review of suyeon would end in the same way, with the same word every time: hardworking. If there’s anything suyeon lives by, is that hard work will never betray you – and it’s like a mantra to her; to be repeated over and over, drilling itself into her skull. tenacity, resilience, it’ll bring success; without fail. but upon this phrase that she constantly reminds herself of, she’s gotten lost, in a bit of a whirlwind to stay occupied and afloat and always helpful.
for many, suyeon has become their mom away from home. she cooks, she dotes, and worries, and will never say no when you walk up to her, fingers twiddling and dilemma afoot. a double-edged sword, perhaps, but the good had always out-weighed the bad – helping, aiding, it always made warmth swell within. besides, to get people saying ‘how the hell can anyone hate suyeon?’ is a minor accomplishment in itself. a certain amiability allows suyeon to always be the perfect candidate to approach; it's as if she's trained — always aware of what to say and how to accommodate.
medicine has always had a sort of notoriety; one for being extremely difficult and not for the weak-hearted. and suyeon believes this wholly, as she attempts to prepare herself for the deep waters; already struggling to tread in the shallow end of pre-medicine. self-doubts, insecurities, it’s often wrapped in layers of ambition and drive, but upon peeling back the layers, suyeon is unsure of herself. has she bid for more that she can buy?
joining kappa delta gamma had shaped suyeon more than she had ever imagined – helped her cope and thrive in the daunting world of tertiary education. amongst her years within the sorority, suyeon had transformed from a lost little teenager who couldn’t juggle lab work and scientific reports to someone who can do both in a single night without a drop of sweat. the support system that the sorority delivers is something suyeon is incredibly grateful for, and will continually try to bring forward, in not only her own efforts, but everyone else’s, too.
when it’s the seventh week and the freshman are still asking suyeon to direct them to their classroom, or it’s the weeks leading up to finals and her underclassmen are asking for criteria to their papers, suyeon begins to feel overwhelmed. she can’t say no, she can’t turn them down; and so she perseveres. her efforts are waved off with a ‘thanks mom!’ but suyeon can’t help but feel if she’s really mom or just a plain-old pushover. (often times, the week that follows finals encompasses an incredible influx of gifts, which sweeps away this thought but it can’t help but be invasive; her insecurities reigning.)
and so she endures, she persists because everyone deserves the perfect sorority experience and if she’ll have to spoon feed it to them, then god damn, she’ll spoon feed.
and when the cracks begin to show on the façade, her grin may falter but she hikes it up, holds it together and trudges on. because if she fractures, who will help? suyeon can’t be the one flounder.
what’s a little juggling, anyway?
kitchen blues · growing up in such a large household always meant that suyeon was helping her mother and grandmother in the kitchen. because of that, she had learnt many skills that she had taken with her into the kappa delta gamma house. she often cooks breakfast for the sorority sisters, and although they all think that she's doing too much for them, it's actually fun for her and a little bit of leisure. suyeon is most famously known for her chocolate chip cookies, however, even to the extent where boys she had turned down even had the audacity to continue to 'court' her for more of the chocolate-y goodness. many of the kdg girls are protective over her recipe and makes sure to gloat over them at bakesales.
a methodological mess · organisation is one of suyeon's strong suits, where she has a well-used planner and three phones (two of them she rarely uses, in all honesty), there is one thing that doesn't seem all too organised — her room. suyeon is always studying, always writing notes, and so there's a constant scatter of paper and textbooks on the floor on suyeon's half of the room. often times you'll see jieun tiptoeing her way around the piles of paper, worried that she'll crinkle something important. other than her studies and planning for new member stuff, she isn't particularly messy. she cleans up after she eats, she washes and folds her clothes instantly and vaccuums/dusts rather often.
who's pop culture? · to say that suyeon is a little uncultured might be a slight exaggeration but it isn't too far from the truth. there's a few things she's interested in (i.e. the occasional random netflix series, she likes black mirror) but she doesn't tend to deviate from that. she feels that her overwhelming schedule is partly at fault, as she purely doesn't have time to be digging herself into new hobbies. she sticks to listening to the top 40 (korean and american) and t.v. shows like grey's anatomy or medical documentaries. when it comes to things she has to plan as an nmc, there's a fair amount of research having to be done on suyeon's part to figure out things that are in and hip at this moment. her collaborations with sigma tau's nmc has always been helpful, as it seems that yuri is well versed in everything pop culture.
social med(ical)ia · two social media platforms that suyeon prefers are twitter and instagram. she keeps facebook for family and pushes more of her sorority centered things toward twitter and her interest in photography toward instagram. suyeon has over three thousand followers on twitter and five thousand on instagram. suyeon is being tagged in tweets and pictures almost constantly, she rarely goes a day without a tag notification on either platform. comments always stream in, and especially on twitter, where conversations thread on for hundreds of tweets at a time, often skewing from the original topic at hand. there's a plethora of pictures of her online, especially when she spends time with others or she gifts anyone anything. the most hectic time would be bid day — in which threre are times in which her phone doesn't stop ringing with notifications.
lgbtq+ rights, right? · suyeon is biual biromantic, however, this is truly only knowledge to herself as there's many reasons as to why coming out would be detrimental to both her career and her social life. she supports all lgbtq+ rights and has even shown face at a rally or two. she eventually feels that she'll have to come out — it's inevitable but there's a part of her that wishes she will just fall in love with a man and won't have to speak about it.

EXEC POSITION the new member coordinator
DAILY LIFE
internships/jobs ∙ ever since her freshman year at hyeongsin, suyeon had searched for internships and assistant roles within the labs to further heighten her knowledge and credentials. most of the work in the labs happen after hours (or the later hours of the afternoon) and so they do not entirely interfere with her schedule. she currently has an intership in the biochemistry lab, in which she shadows a few of the professors in their research, as well as assisting. she additionally has a paid role in the anatomy labs as a technical research assistant, where she handles a lot of cadaveric material.
sorority ∙ fortunately enough for suyeon, her duties as the new member coordinator are over within the first few weeks of the semester. she dives fast and hard into her duties, always striving to plan the best bid day and iconic parties (historically, they've always been a hit. suyeon doesn't settle for anything less than perfection). however, her duties as the sororities mother never really ends. among the first preliminary weeks, a lot of the freshman have warmed up to suyeon and always go to her for help (particularly because she always offers it, whether or not she has the free time is a different story) and these relationships extend way past freshman year and later into their next years. and suyeon can't help but be maternal, always asking if the girls have eaten yet (and if they haven't, she'll scurry off to the kitchen to prepare something), she'll give out study tips or just minor advice on the boy they're currently crushing on. because of the relationship that nayeon and suyeon shares, suyeon is always asking nayeon if she needs any assistance in her presidential role, in which nayeon will sternly deny, knowing well that suyeon had way too much on her plate already. there are times, here are there, where suyeon will aid the rest of the executive board (mostly pinning it on the fact that she's a part of it, and even though her job is over, she can still help), regardless of the state of her schedule. additionally, one of her biggest priorities within the sorority is not just to be motherly to all the girls, but be an amazing big to yewon. to be a good role model will always be one of her major priorities and she will wordlessly drop everything she's doing to aid yewon if necessary.
leisure ∙ leisure time is minimal. her free time is usually thrown into helping the other girls, cooking, or just taking a well deserved nap. suyeon has become so accustomed to her schedule that even on the days where she can sleep in, suyeon still finds herself waking up at 7 a.m., bumbling about in the kitchen and keeping herself occupied. it seems that she can't particularly sit still. she'll spend time with girls in the sorority or her well-loved pre-medicine friends. they're a small cohort, and upon reaching senior year together, they definitely have formed a tight bond. they often like to hang out and get coffee and for once, speak about things that aren't medicine. during massive bouts of free time, suyeon might even watch some television shows. mostly grey's anatomy reruns. when the free time shows itself, suyeon also isn't going to say no to a good party. she likes to dance and let loose a little, but also she likes to make sure that all the girls are safe.
· shower, get dressed, put on makeup, pack her bag by 7 a.m.
· go downstairs to make and eat breakfast (will make extra). finish by 7:45 a.m.
· class in regional anatomy and function at 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
· hour break for lunch, will usually catch up with a sister or friend, finish by 12 p.m.
· her job in the anatomy lab at 1 p.m. until 6 p.m.
· two hours group study at the library with pre-medicine cohort, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
· go home to the house, make dinner (or buy dinner) and catch up, finish by 10 p.m.
it all felt a little too formal, considering who was giving the interview and their entire relationship and all, but she decided to indulge, a small grin that twitches at the corner of her lips. she straightens out the back of her skirt as she takes her seat across from ahreum, one leg crossed over the other. 'hey ahreum! i've been great, you know, same, same! and take your time if you must, you have my undivided attention.' a small flutter of a laughter leaves her lips as she bites at the inside of her lower lip, tipping her head to the side slightly, 'how are you, though, my girl?'
'oh my god, mom— suyeon, i'm good!' they both giggle together whilst suyeon's line of sight skirts over to nayeon, who has her arms crossed as she sits in a chair beside ahreum, a small kink of a smile unveiling itself on her lips. suyeon flashes a quick grin in her direction before returning her attention to ahreum.
nayeon clears , making sure the banter doesn't go on for a little too long. ahreum shakes her head a little and clasps her hands together, 'let's get started!'
'right, right, fire away, 'reum!'
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO KAPPA DELTA GAMMA?.
the question prompts immediate laughter from the elder, as by this point, suyeon could never imagine ever being in any other sorority. she lets out a small sigh as an immediate influx of memories fills her head, 'you girls are making me feel old,' suyeon pauses, a cheeky grin, 'but back in my freshman days, i had never even thought of joining a sorority.'
ahreum looks a little taken aback, considering just how much suyeon puts herself into kappa delta gamma, whereas nayeon looks completely unfazed — already having heard this story once before. 'you, what? seriously?'
'seriously!' suyeon chuckles, 'i did research on hyeongsin, before coming here' — 'as one would,' ahreum interjects, poking a little fun at the senior. suyeon shoots her a little playful glare before continuing, 'and found out that greek life was huge here. it'd be wrong of me not to check it out.' suyeon nods, shrugging her shoulders. 'and well, kappa delta gamma was the best sorority around back then — still is!' suyeon quickly tags on, which makes nayeon snicker. 'and i could never settle for second best, right? that's why i chose us.'
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CURRENT EXEC BOARD? NO PRESSURE, YOU CAN BASH US, WE'LL PRETEND WE DIDN'T LISTEN.
suyeon's amused, she giggles at ahreum's wording of the question, knowing fully well that these words were set constant, for everyone she was interviewing. suyeon purses her lips, as if she's stuck i thought, in a small breath, 'well considering i am on the current executive board...' her words drag on, playfully, before both ahreum and suyeon can't hold it anymore and crack into a laughter.
'i don't think there's much to say, right, ahreum? we're a good bunch — the best. we do our best for this sorority because each and every girl deserves it.' a firm nod. 'i have no complaints about the executive board; all of you, are perfect.'
nayeon rolls her eyes and suyeon catches glimpse of it in the corner of her eye, 'pres, are you rolling your eyes? at my comment?'
'you don't need to up so hard, oh my god—'
'well i'm not gonna say we , because we don't, and i love you all and you guys do an amazing job? what else is there to say!'
WHAT'S THE BEST AND WORST PART OF BEING IN A SORORITY, IN YOUR OPINION?.
suyeon nods, immediately knowing her first answer, no contemplation. 'the support system, for sure. the girls, we're like a family, you know?' ahreums is nodding, agreeing with the words that suyeon speaks. 'you're constantly with your friends, your family, always supporting one another and sharing each other's burdens. that's the best thing about a sorority.'
for the second part of the question, the answer doesn't come as easily. because despite not wanting to join a sorority in the beginning (what a silly thought, suyeon thinks), there aren't many faults or cons to it. all the so-called 'worst' parts of being in a sorority were rather trivial and all the pros had definitely outweighed it.
'i guess, all the parties? which isn't even a bad thing, but...' suyeon lingers on for a second, 'it kinda when i'm stuck up in studies and i can't attend all the parties.' suyeon bursts into giggles once more, ahreum joining in.
'you and nayeon both, two of the most popular girls, and you guys always ditch parties!'
'it can't be helped.' nayeon comments, shrugging her shoulders, a smile on her lips.'yeah, my neuroscience homework isn't gonna do itself, ahreum.' suyeon quickly adds, thinking about the moments in which they sit together on the dinner table, studying and catching up on all their life-time drama.
SO, UH, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE RIVARLY WITH TRI DELTA?.
this question, for most, would have a pretty certain answer, but for suyeon, she found it all a little trivial. the sorority was always informed of the rivalry, and although it would entail a sort of... distaste for tri delta, suyeon didn't feel too strongly about it all. she had a handful of friends within the sorority, and whenever they would clash at parties, suyeon would be getting friendly with the other girls more than anything. 'i feel like it's a little silly, really.'
'but...' suyeon trails off once again, a thought lingering on the tip of her tongue, 'i'm competitive. this is the first year that we don't have the title.' she bites down on her lip, stern. 'i want it back — we need it back, i want it back before i leave.' a huge wave of melancholy suddenly washes over suyeon, and she sits back in her chair, a finger tapping softly on her leg as she sits in thought, silent.
'i have nothing against the girls, really. they're all sweet. but i truly think that we deserve that title.' ahreum and nayeon both nod in silence and suyeon instantly shifts out of the awkward blue mood, and smiles. 'we'll take back what's ours.'
HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR CURRENT LIVING ARRANGMENTS?.
ah, moon jieun. the question instantly reminds her of her closest friend and roommate. 'honestly, girls, i wouldn't have it any other way. living with you all has been such a treat.' she nods twice, a soft sigh leaving her lips as the thought of graduating still lingers in the back of her head.
'i think it's the real treat for us, with all your cooking, suyeon. can i have an eta for the next batch of cookies, or—' nayeon's eyes widen, 'ahreum!'
'sorry! i'm craving.'
suyeon giggles and flashes a grin, 'i'll make some tonight. but, yeah. i have no complaints about my living situation. i love my roommate. i wouldn't have it any other way. if anything, you should be asking if jieun is okay with the mess that i make in our room!'
WELL, THIS IS ALL! SEE, I TOLD YOU IT WAS GOING TO BE QUICK.
'oh, that was quick!' suyeon grabs her bag that she placed on the table well before the interview started and rummages through the contents for a second, 'any of you girls hungry? i have a granola bar or two...' she whips out two wrapped bars and flashes them in front of her, seeing if either of them would take up the offer.
'oh, me!' ahreum takes one and swiftly unwraps it from the plastic; the air of professionalism (although minimal) had completely disappeared by this point.
'i'll see you girls later! take care. don't forget to eat.'
'yes, mom.' both ahreum and nayeon reply in a monotonous unison, leaving a warmth in suyeon's chest as she opens the door to the room and exits.

but suyeon probably should have expected it. her efforts of getting over joohyuk during vacation were hard-worked – where she threw herself into her studies and sisters, she honestly thought she was successful. but alas, at the sight of his face, that gummy smile and the squint of his eyes and the quirk in his laughter – it opened the flood gates and brought it all rushing back. stupid? yes, definitely; but suyeon found herself helpless, she had never been so enamoured, even with the fact in mind that they hadn’t even kissed.
so when suyeon begins her internship in the biochemistry labs, she should have saw it coming — that he'd be there too, dressed in his white lab coat with pens stuck in his pocket, quietly going over details with the coordinator. and no matter how much suyeon denies it, jinseul thinks that suyeon had signed up with the thought of joohyuk being there in mind — a biochemistry teacher's assistant in a biochemistry lab? bound to be.
avoidance can only be kept up so long when in such close proximities, to be working side to side and handing each other latex gloves and dropping coloured liquids into cuvettes, suyeon swears that the electricity comes back, and it's raging. an unintentional bump of fingers turns into shoulder to shoulder contact, evolves into jokes and banter being thrown back and forth escalates to coffee breaks together (in which they for once, chat about things that aren't biochemical) and finally es to an experience that suyeon never pinned herself on having — not like this, anyway.
('you slept with him?! oh my god, you did–'
'don't be ridiculous! we just, i don't know... made out in his office a little.'
'details, soo, details!'
'i don't know! oh my god! it got kinda steamy, i guess?
i even almost considered doing it then and there–'
'suyeon!!!!'
'shush, please–')
and it was so truly unlike suyeon, that really has the girls gathered around and suyeon tells them that she might’ve had a steamy make-out session with joohyuk in the teacher’s assistant’s office.
jinseul squeals, and yewon has her hand over as she just stares, right at suyeon, not believing the words that had just left . and here’s the thing, other than nayeon, none of the other sisters had actually much intel on the suyeon-joohyuk relationship, as she kept it low-key, especially since all of them had taken such a huge part in helping her get over him. but something about this had felt like relief, like her doubts were answered and steps forward could be made. as if she could be certain of herself and this unsuspecting growing romance.
once the magic fades, suyeon is reminded that real life is never that easy. was she wrong? had she gone and completely ruined the immaculately planned timeline she’s built for herself (for the viewer’s pleasure, it goes something like, finish studies, become a doctor and then find love) the magic disappeared much faster than she had anticipated, and despite a kiss that felt otherworldly, her own doubts had resurfaced once more, to rain down on her parade.
amongst being so caught up in this infatuation, there had been small time frames in which she had forgotten to consider the impact a relationship would have on her already hectic lifestyle – was it something she could squeeze in? did she even have the time? with pre-medicine, the sorority and her internships, it seems that her plate was already full. there was no way she was just going to let a boy waltz his way into her life and make her throw away her priorities, her life that she had been working so hard to create up until now. and if he understands this, or not, is something she has yet to find out.
she knocks on her door, her fingers twiddling as she waits for the call for her to come in, dreading everything that she had planned to do. even if she and nayeon had talked the plan over four times last night, suyeon was still in doubts and definitely ready to backpedal any second. and besides, as soon as she saw his face, she knew that there’d be a little part of her that’d want to just kiss him.
suyeon thinks that a lot of the medical student body think alike – and it’s starting to become more and more true, because the conversation she had with joohyuk confirmed things. and whilst the talk left her a little perturbed (only a little because the conclusion was favourable and they also did sneak in a kiss) suyeon finds that it’s something she can agree on. it’s unanimous, a truth in which they both can’t deny, a certain electricity that resonates between the two that constantly flickers and flames when the channels open up.
conclusions were made. they agreed, that despite external interferences, they agreed that it could be something special. and it wasn’t something they thought could be ignored. compromises need to be made, and without ever leaving out the factor of career, they agree that for once; they should be allowed to be selfish. unwind from the plans, the career paths, the ambition that eats at their skulls bit by bit. forget rationale and indulge in their emotions. just a little. dating.
suyeon had never been all too fond of labels, and whilst everything was still in its awkward, preliminary stages, she refused to put a name to the thing she had going on with joohyuk. and when questions arose about their status, suyeon felt the need to refute with a strong ‘no’ but instead she hesitates and glances in his direction, a sort of warmth that fills at the base of her stomach (a twist, churning) and rises to fill in a rosy flush up her neck. ‘we’re… sort of. yeah.’ and although they established on dating, suyeon still felt that it was too hard to utter the words from her lips, to come and realise that her timeline had gone a little askew, to realise that she was being selfish in putting her emotions before her career. and for this, it takes a bit of processing. that, however, does not mean that the reaction from the sorority was anything less of an uproar, as bets were paid (which made suyeon’s jaw drop in utter bewilderment and was soon followed up with a lecture about not putting money on someone’s love life), bottles of champagne were popped and suyeon would slink away into her room from the impromptu party to text joohyuk.
it’s not something suyeon readily admits, but she’s never had a boyfriend. but could you blame her? with a schedule she swears that any normal human can juggle (no they can’t) and her well thought out plan of attack for her career, it probably wouldn’t be big news to anyone that joohyuk was her first. and no movie nor romance novel could prepare her for the storm that was brewing; and whilst she felt that it was all an exaggeration, the skip of a heartbeat, the need to cast aside everything for one person, she had come to realise that it really wasn’t, and she was thrown into that mercilessly, emotions overflowing.
there’s very few things that suyeon would rank above the face that joohyuk makes when he sees her. when it illustrates him falling through the floor when she walks into his office, starbucks coffee in hand. and it all felt so natural, they sit elbow to elbow, soundlessly flipping through notes as they sink into the warmth of one another’s company. it didn’t seem forced, how he would ask how her day was or he’ll aimlessly slink on about his worries within the lab or even how a student spilt iodine all over his lab coat and was now terribly decorated with a huge purple stain.
she invites him to the house, and while she has her fingers linked with his, they ignore the coos that echo from the other girls as she drags him into her room and consequently kicks her roommate out (sorry, jieun!), closing the door behind her and turning to face him. soft gazes. and she pulls him close, skin against skin and kisses that skip down her neck. arms wrapped around her waist as he tugs at the fabric of her shirt, giggles bubbling and erupting as she blindly walks backward to hit the footboard of her bed, dragging him down with her, falling onto the sheets.
they lay, wrapped up in blankets and squished against one another, flush, on her small bed. it’s sweaty, there’s definitely not enough room for the both of them but it feels cosy. warm. he can’t help but scatter kisses; on her forehead, on the tip of her nose, down to her lips. she sighs softly, and she’s never felt a comfort like this before, a sort of contentment that made her want to stay like this forever, despite how physically unpleasant it all seemed to be. but alas, this was not what they came to her room for, not at all, and so it was time to break the romance – for now.
‘scoot, we actually have to study now. you promised to help me.’ ‘right, right. got a little side tracked there.’ and even though the situation had flipped from one vibe straight into another, there was a certain glow that felt the same. she sits propped up against her bed on the floor in her underwear (the doors locked, and jieun had promised to crash with ahreum, anyway), and joohyuk sits crossed legged on the bed as he fiddles with her hair with one hand and flips through her neuroscience report with the other. she passes up her cup of coffee to him in which he sips, and splutters, laughing about just how bitter it is. and although that’s probably not how most couples spend their all-nighters, it seems that suyeon wouldn’t have it any other way.
soon enough, there’s no secret to the suyeon-joohyuk relationship, as she had brought him to many a greek party, eventually introducing him to all her friends and acquaintances. and despite only having been a few months, she finds that their arrangement works, and that for all the doubts and fears she once had, this was much easier and she curses herself over and over for letting it slip the first time around.
and again, soon enough, suyeon finally finds it okay to call him her ‘boyfriend’. and although it sounds weird rolling off her tongue, it’s something she gets used to. she gets used to holding hands – or, holding hands without getting too nervous, he gets used to her sitting on his lap as they go through notes, he gets used to having to hold back during their time together in the labs, sneaking one another small glances, him shooting winks her way and suyeon responding with poking out her tongue. it’s all so new and there’s a lot of things to get accustomed to, but suyeon’s well and truly adoring all the twists and turns that come with him. to continually find out small quirks and habits about joohyuk. to always feel her heartbeat triple in speed whenever she caught sight of him or his awfully cute smile.
things that suyeon doesn’t like to be reminded about: that real life is not easy. things that suyeon seems to constantly be reminded of: real life is not easy. and no matter how much nicholas sparks makes you think that true love will work itself out, despite the consequences that surface, it’s really not that easy. although suyeon’s situation doesn’t particularly entail coma’s or cases of amnesia, it’s become apparent that things between her and joohyuk have begun to hit a rocky path.
and as much as they’ve both agreed to talk it out and always make compromises, to be thoughtful and aware of each other’s circumstances, some things just don’t go as planned. when ‘can i stay over?’ turns into ‘i can’t stay’ and invites of nights together turns into weak excuses about being busy, suyeon can’t help but feel a little powerless. they see each other less and less, the amount of ‘i miss you’ texts increase and one thing changes that suyeon had never ever predicted. her grades begin to drop.
the more she sits, sulking over the fact that joohyuk hadn’t texted her back, the more her schedule falls out of line, the more she forgets her priorities and spends it flipping through her gallery, looking at the cute selfies they took together on their trips. she sits, and wonders, what changed, what happened for all of this to fall to such pieces so quickly? and the thing is, it’s not all joohyuk, she wishes it was, but the amount of time she’s cancelled on him brings a rock to as she feels at fault, she feels responsible, catalytic to the demise of her first love.
she tries to piece things together – had she jumped into it too quickly? was the stress of finals week finally eating away at her every thought, emotion, flesh and bone? and while she sits on her bed with jieun mindlessly spilling random thoughts about her useless biology lecturer (suyeon had asked to keep her occupied) suyeon over-anaylses every aspect of their relationship. she’s unsure of how it can be fixed, if it can be fixed.
and she eventually pins it down on the fact that they’re at such pivotal moments in their life. she pins it on the fact that they delved into it too quickly and didn’t get to know one another – as friends – first.
suyeon is a punctual person, her sense of time is incredible, but for once, this is something that was ill-timed but utterly necessary and so she could not put it off for any longer that she really hoped for. and despite it being one week away from finals, she thought that the heartbreak might be good for her, the closure. and she knocks at his door, an odd jolt of nostalgia that courses through her – from the first time she walked in there to talk about the start of their relationship, to the amount of times she’s spent in his office studying, or otherwise. This time, however, it was a little different. and she curses at herself that this was the last memory she had to leave of this place, but it was inevitable and it was now or never.
it was mutual. it really was.
‘maybe in another lifetime, suyeon.’
it was in suyeon’s every intention to drown herself in her studies to forget about joohyuk. and so she calls up uisoo and they agree to meet at his dorm to study (he has a great little coffee table, an energy drink stocked fridge and great lighting) and suyeon packs up her things to go to his place. you see, things between suyeon and uisoo had always been a little weird (well not to them, personally, but to people that looked in from the outside), they were close, uisoo was a bit of a clown and despite suyeon’s reserved nature, it always made her fall into bits of laughter. he was, without a doubt, suyeon’s go-to study buddy and they’d often get a little competitive about their exam and quiz marks. their dynamic, to many, is far too close to be considered only friends, and no matter how many times they deny it, they’ve countlessly been asked if they’re ‘a thing’. they both throw their hands up and deny profusely. the amount of times it had happened causes them to laugh every time, suyeon often throwing an elbow into uisoo’s ribcage often saying how he’s nothing but a friend (‘he’s gross, anyway’).
however, it’s hyeongsin’s best kept secret that lee uisoo is indeed in love with go suyeon. and when suyeon comes bearing snacks, red-puffy eyes (that she swears the result of allergies and not her profuse crying), uisoo thinks that maybe, just maybe, he has a chance.
finals week is over, and for once, suyeon is wildly unconfident in her performance. it wasn’t unusual for suyeon to come back from her exams, announcing that she had aced them (and she well and truly always did) but this time, she waddled her way back through the doors of the kappa delta gamma house and beelines straight for her room, ready to nap away the stress and feelings. despite her attempts of forgetting joohyuk (once again, although it was a much tougher ride this time around) he was constantly on her mind.
the girls drag her to upsilon chi’s post-finals party (the first of many) and although she puts up a weak fight, she does dress up, she lets jinseul put on her makeup and she attempts to loosen up.
that attempt, however… went a little too well. she’s drunk. suyeon doesn’t get drunk. she gets tipsy, and then calls it a night so she can usher the girls home in a safe and secure manner. but amongst her finals doubts and the aftermath of joohyuk, suyeon doesn’t deny the fifth shot that yuri passes her and downs it without a second thought.
she finds herself outside, sitting on the brick-wall around a garden, a few metres away from the party. uisoo sits beside her, and she has her hands on her temples, a small groan escaping her lips as she tries to sober up. up until ten minutes ago, she was having a great time, not thinking about joohyuk and dancing around with the girls. but after one more shot (offered by the graceful moon jieun) she hits her limit and makes a run for the door, straight for the garden. she’s throwing up and it’s not pretty, and someone’s holding her hair back as she spits the gross taste out of . it wasn’t a bad assumption on suyeon’s part to think that the person aiding her was nayeon, but upon a hand holding out a red solo cup for her to drink, she notices a few rings, and that the hand was far manlier than nayeon’s.
‘drink. it’s water.’ and that voice was definitely manlier and not nayeon but in fact uisoo.
‘god that was embarrassing.’ ‘don’t sweat it, we all get rowdy.’ ‘thanks.’
it’s been fifteen minutes and she’s surprisingly sobered up a good amount, her head no longer spinning, but her brain still filled with a slight fuzz, a minor drag in her words. she leans on uisoo’s shoulder as she takes in the night-time air, lazily scanning the party from afar, identifying her sorority sisters and seeing if they were still okay. he lifts an arm and wraps it around her shoulder, and she snuggles in closer. he stares at her face, the way her eyelids would flutter, getting sleepy, the small bridge of her nose and her flushed pink cheeks. her lips, pouted and slightly down-turned. and he doesn’t know what comes over him, but he leans in closer.
and amongst things she thought that would happen that night, this was not even on the list. she finds herself pulling him behind her as she sneaks back into the house (thank god that the girls were still out at the party), running up the stairs as they giggle. she walks into her room and slams the door behind her. he turns, pressing her up against the door as he kisses, rough, hands at the hem of her shirt as he pulls it over her head. she runs her hands under his shirt before hastily pulling it off over his head. she makes instant work on the button of his jeans and he blindly reaches for the clasp of her bra. he’s littering messy kisses down her neck and jawline, his fingers dig into her soft skin as he pulls her close.
there’s levels of drunkenness. there’s that level where you wake up, forgetting everything you had done the previous night. but as much as suyeon had wished that was the case, she recalled every detail vividly. his sleeping body coming into view next to her as she rubs her eyes, was a nice reminder, too.
before waking uisoo, she feels around for her phone and grabs it, checking the time and her messages.
9 A.M. okay, not too bad.
1 new message.
< from: do not call!!! >
i miss you.
suyeon instantly locks her phone and tosses it away onto her bedside counter, she’ll deal with that later. now, she has to deal with this.
‘uisoo. uisoo, wake up.’
and while she was ready for uisoo to write it off as a drunken mistake (as she was), there was another surprise waiting for her.
there’s so many things to consider, suyeon’s sitting at the kitchen table eating a bowl of cereal as all the girls talk about the events of last night (luckily enough, suyeon had managed to sneak uisoo out and have no one know about the predicaments she had gotten into (she was going to tell them soon, but when, she hadn’t decided yet)) and she’s once again caught up in a million and one thoughts.
uisoo had confessed. it was weird, ill-timed and it made her completely confused. she liked him, of course, only as a friend. but the more she considered it, the more things fell into place, and just seemed to work. the fact that they were the same age, doing the same course, with similar dreams. the fact that he liked her a lot, and was always helpful throughout their friendship. the fact that they are indeed friends, before anything, something that suyeon didn’t have with joohyuk. but it always circles back to joohyuk. he had texted her after only a little over two weeks. that too, was ill-timed.
suyeon’s glad that finals are over, but she had never in her life time, expected that she’d be caught up in something like this. she never thought she’d ever allow herself to be caught up in something like this. oh, how things change.
