GO SUYEON IS A KAPPA DELTA GAMMA

< / ΚΔΓ >
BIRTHNAME go suyeon (고수연)
NICKNAMES
mom | 엄마 · 'go ask mom, she'll know what to do,' — a common phrase thrown around in the kdg house when things go awry. she's not all too sure on how this title came to be — probably a sweet concoction of her ripening age (where some girls even take it up a notch and call her grandmother) and her impressive mom instinct she acquired without even bearing a child. at her fourth year in the sorority, there isn't much that suyeon hasn't experienced, she's got it all under wraps; a true college survival guide. that, along with her logical mind and a brilliant affinity for problem-solving (especially predicaments that entail studying or boys) make suyeon the prime person to head to for advice, a warm hug (that only a mother's love could provide) and sometimes, if you're lucky enough, a coupon for a free jug of beer at hyeongsin's campus bar.

gosu | 고수 · like an insane circus act, suyeon manages to juggle all the aspects of her college and personal life with what seems to be presumed ease. taking in the truck-load of study that is required with pre-medicine, coordinating all things to do with new members, maintaining a pretty impressive social life all whilst having great hair gives suyeon this nickname. prevelant use of gosu is within the gaming community, and although suyeon isn't particularly part of that, the meaning transfers over — someone who is highly skilled, exceptional in what they do. not to forget that it's a dainty derivative from her surname and first name.

doctor go · aside from sorority activities, suyeon often takes internships or takes up research assistant positions in the labs (whether it be chemistry, biology, anatomy, etc.) to further heighten her credentials and gain experience. her ambitions are very clear, she has a path set out for herself and so, when the sisters see suyeon studying for her upcoming midterm or final exams, they often give her a snack or creep away, trying not to disturb. 'don't interrupt doctor go, she's on a roll.' the nickname originally surfaced from the words of nayeon, particularly when she first saw the state of suyeon's room (mind you, it was on a regular night of studying). textbooks stacked upon textbooks, scattered across her floors, diagrams of human structures, a plethora of immaculately handwritten notes in both korean and what seems to be english and latin, and lecture recordings playing in the background amidst all the mess — it was truly a sight to see. 'ah, so this is what it's like to be a doctor-in-the-making,' she murmurs, a grin of bewilderment and slight terror on her face, 'i'll leave you to it, doctor go.'

soo |  yeon | 'the other yeon' · nothing but quick shortenings to her name, mostly only called by fellow seniors in the sorority or her close pre-medical school friends (or rivalling sororities). she's also often called 'the other yeon' — nayeon being the prime 'yeon' coming to mind when kdg is considered.

BIRTHDATE    april first, 1994 (23)
BIRTHPLACE   seoul, south korea
HOMETOWN     seoul, south korea
ETHNICITY    full korean
NATIONALITY  south korean
LANGUAGES
korean · native. born and raised in seoul, south korea, suyeon's korean is practically flawless. her articulation is brilliant and she's incredibly eloquent with her speech. a lot of the time, she will keep up honorifics, only switching to more casual conversation when prompted.

english · advanced. upon deciding that she wanted to become a doctor (quite early in her life, around the age of seven), suyeon immediately decided that learning english was crucial in the process towards her goal. she had been studying it ever since and her skills within the language are quite impressive. when reading and writing is concerned, there isn't a flaw to be seen, however when speaking, it's a little bit of a different story. although she speaks english rather well and her articulation and sentence construction is be any means, acceptable, her korean accent is a little over-powering and makes her english harder to understand. however, she is continually working on it and is definitely improving. her english knowledge is not limited to only everyday conversation, but she is additionally well versed in medical terms as many of them are indeed taught in english.

latin · medical. again, a lot of medical terms (particularly anatomy) is taught in latin — hence suyeon's proficiency in it. her understanding is purely limited to medical vocabulary and jargon, completely forgoing any other branch of the language. as there is no need for it, suyeon can't speak in sentences in latin, but is quick to translate certain medical terms from latin to english, knowing the basics to make the process of learning the slightest bit easier.

APPEARANCE
a particularly memorable appearance is definitely not one of suyeon's strong points, as her facial features tend to strike as a little average. this is not to say that she's not attractive (because that is definitely not the case here), but if anyone were to ask the new recruits of kappa delta gamma what they found most distinguishing about suyeon, the replies would consist of a mix of her (slightly overbearing) motherly nature, her incredible homemade chocolate chip cookies or her rather impressive height. but when put into consideration, within the grand scheme of things, suyeon's looks definitely tie her together to be the 'full package' — personality, intelligence and looks. there's something about her that can only be described as a delightful warmth, a sort of amiability that makes her easy to approach, despite daunting factors like her age, work ethic or general societal status. something about all those factors meshed into one make suyeon the indisputable choice as the new member coordinator.

a youthful glow and a toothy grin, eyes that disappear into crescents when she cracks the slightest smile and a small nose that in fact, completely suits her dainty features. there's a certain air that suyeon projects — not particularly one that sets her apart from others or turns heads — that is very telling of her humanly nature, signals that ring 'i've got everything carefully planned out and under control.' and once people get a glimpse into the well-used moleskine planner suyeon keeps practically attached to her hip, a thousand and one questions are thrown about, but the main one being — 'how the hell does she do it?' the image, the perceived perfection in everything she does — is it actually acheivable without the sacrifice of an arm and a leg?

when suyeon stands in the kitchen preparing a batch of cookies at nine in the morning, she has her burnt orange hair tied into a high pony-tail (the dark roots starting to become very apparent and so suyeon makes a note of making a hairdressers appointment within the next week) and her wire-rimmed glasses sliding down the small bridge of her nose, her cute plump lips pursed in concentration. when the other girls waltz in still groggy with sleep in their eyes, suyeon on the other hand stands tall, beaming from cheek to cheek, ready to greet the morning. standing at one hundred and seventy two centimetres, it's certain that her head sticks out a little higher than most, often noting it as an advantage so she can keep an eye out on her children. suyeon is slight, weighing a mere fifty-five kilograms, a bit too thin for her height. and although several sisters have voiced their envy for her body, suyeon herself feels that she's a little too gangly, arms way too long and boney, legs far too scrawny. undeterred by her best efforts, gaining weight is something suyeon finds much harder than she had ever anticipated.

FASHION SENSE
'you can't keep wearing skirts, suyeon, it's unfair,' she's only just stepped out from her room, carefully pulling the door shut behind her as she turns her head in response to the voice — there she sees ahreum with her arms folded, lips pursed in what seems to be a pout. her stance was kept for a few seconds but only to be broken as she cracks a full grin after catching sight of the genuine look of sympathy that washes across suyeon's dainty features.  suyeon glances down at her own outfit — a long-sleeved white ribbed mock-neck shirt, a black and yellow plaid mini-skirt paired with an almost seemingly ill-fitted pair of black authentic vans — she didn't see anything that mismatched all too dreadfully, 'what did i do wrong now!?'

'you make all us average-heighted girls here feel like hobbits,' she continues as ahreum walks toward the staircase, suyeon following close by before placing a hand on her head and giving her hair a ruffle. ahreum flinches, the pout couldn't be faster to return to her flush red lips, jutting out in an awfully cute nature. 'look, look, what are those legs!' she gestures toward suyeon's bare legs with a nicely manicured hand, 'you're like eighty percent leg!'

bubbles of laughter erupt from the pair as they reach the corridor that stretches before the gaudy entrance, suyeon shaking her head at the younger girls remark, 'oh, i'm sorry, let me just take of my stilts—'

suyeon dresses rather plainly, straying away from any patterns that aren't plaid. a particulary sort of feminine flair to her choices, many items that she layers on top add a mature kick to it all. often times suyeon will look as if she's stepped out of an american apparel ad or off a shoot for unif. short sleeves aren't her favourite, the large sleeves would droop and accentuate the gangly nature of her limbs, forcing her to keep her coat on in weather that well and truly did not need it. despite this, if suyeon feels like wearing that khaki green tennis skirt even though it's close to snowing outside, she'll put it on without a second thought — if it looks cute, then the weather can be endured with a dainty pair of thigh-high socks or stockings.

skirts and shorts are the usual go-to, her plethora of denim shorts is rather impressive, as well as her plain (mainly long-sleeved) t-shirt collection, it actually looks like she's cleared the shelf at the local as colours store — every shade of grey to eggshell to powder blue. on the occasions where suyeon does feel that the weather might be a bit too cold for a miniskirt, she does own the obligatory pair of mom jeans, that she rocks pretty iconically with a leather belt and chunky chelsea boots. however, in the depths of winter, the way suyeon primarily combats the freezing temperatures is outerwear. if there was anything suyeon would pride herself in within her closet, it'd be her coat collection. flight-style bomber jackets, thick peacoats or calf-length slouch coats, hoodies or even hsu branded sweatshirts, suyeon loves a nice, warm coat. it's not rare to see suyeon wear a pretty thin layer of clothing under and top it off with a plush, dark-grey knee-length wrap coat. her best excuse for this is the ease of removal — she's constantly going in and out of laboratories, and so if she can easily hang them up in exchange for comfort in her white labcoat, then she'll do so.

suyeon's choice of shoes usually vary from sneakers (vans, adidas originals, stan smiths, common projects, converse all stars, ultraboosts) to leather boots (heeled chelsea boots, 8-eye doctor martens) and the occasional pair of pumps of strappy heels, for events and parties.

ELABORATION
'has anybody seen suyeon?’ nayeon’s flipping through a stack of stapled papers, hoping to run over some plans with the elder, who can’t seem to be found within the kappa delta gamma mansion. and it’s not a rare occurrence, for suyeon to be missing; she’s always a busy body with a thousand and one things on her daily to-do list. in the end, calling one of her three phones usually leads you to her whereabouts or she’ll eventually sneak back through the houses’ doors at half past one in the morning.

yewon looks up from her textbook for the first time in what seems like hours; her legs crossed on the chair as she scrawls notes onto a notepad about the renaissance period, ‘if she’s not at the library or in the labs… she’s probably dead. there’s no in-between.’ yewon chuckles to herself, picking up her phone for a well-deserved break after nayeon had unintentionally broke her flow.

‘she’s gonna end up overworking herself straight into her grave, honestly.’

•••

any peer review of suyeon would end in the same way, with the same word every time: hardworking. If there’s anything suyeon lives by, is that hard work will never betray you – and it’s like a mantra to her; to be repeated over and over, drilling itself into her skull. tenacity, resilience, it’ll bring success; without fail. but upon this phrase that she constantly reminds herself of, she’s gotten lost, in a bit of a whirlwind to stay occupied and afloat and always helpful.

for many, suyeon has become their mom away from home. she cooks, she dotes, and worries, and will never say no when you walk up to her, fingers twiddling and dilemma afoot. a double-edged sword, perhaps, but the good had always out-weighed the bad – helping, aiding, it always made warmth swell within. besides, to get people saying ‘how the hell can anyone hate suyeon?’ is a minor accomplishment in itself. a certain amiability allows suyeon to always be the perfect candidate to approach; it's as if she's trained — always aware of what to say and how to accommodate.

medicine has always had a sort of notoriety; one for being extremely difficult and not for the weak-hearted. and suyeon believes this wholly, as she attempts to prepare herself for the deep waters; already struggling to tread in the shallow end of pre-medicine. self-doubts, insecurities, it’s often wrapped in layers of ambition and drive, but upon peeling back the layers, suyeon is unsure of herself. has she bid for more that she can buy?

joining kappa delta gamma had shaped suyeon more than she had ever imagined – helped her cope and thrive in the daunting world of tertiary education. amongst her years within the sorority, suyeon had transformed from a lost little teenager who couldn’t juggle lab work and scientific reports to someone who can do both in a single night without a drop of sweat. the support system that the sorority delivers is something suyeon is incredibly grateful for, and will continually try to bring forward, in not only her own efforts, but everyone else’s, too.

when it’s the seventh week and the freshman are still asking suyeon to direct them to their classroom, or it’s the weeks leading up to finals and her underclassmen are asking for criteria to their papers, suyeon begins to feel overwhelmed. she can’t say no, she can’t turn them down; and so she perseveres. her efforts are waved off with a ‘thanks mom!’ but suyeon can’t help but feel if she’s really mom or just a plain-old pushover. (often times, the week that follows finals encompasses an incredible influx of gifts, which sweeps away this thought but it can’t help but be invasive; her insecurities reigning.)

and so she endures, she persists because everyone deserves the perfect sorority experience and if she’ll have to spoon feed it to them, then god damn, she’ll spoon feed.

and when the cracks begin to show on the façade, her grin may falter but she hikes it up, holds it together and trudges on. because if she fractures, who will help? suyeon can’t be the one flounder.

what’s a little juggling, anyway?

BACKGROUND
age 00 ∙ born on april first, and it’s definitely no joke – it’s a miracle. go suyeon begins her life endeavours on this spring day. after two miscarriages and constant reiterations of ‘incompatibility’ the go family finally had a small, wonderful addition.

age 06 ∙ struggles were had, because to say they were well-off would be a joke for the decade. it wasn’t particularly the most efficient or logical way to proceed in life, but the go family lived pay-check to pay-check. but where they lacked in finances, they overflowed with love. it was a crowded home, because amongst suyeon and her parents, there was also grandpa and grandma, aunty and two cousins crammed within the thin paper walls. and suyeon never really questioned it, it felt normal, it felt like home. suyeon was the eldest of the children, her younger cousins being five and three. ever since adolescence, suyeon had always been the motherly type, the one to lead by example.

age 07 ∙ it wasn't until suyeon turned seven, when she had discovered her calling in life. and whereas other people may have spectacular revelations into finding their dream jobs, suyeon's was rather lackluster — but it did that job, and that's what counts here. it was a thursday night after dinner and as she had already finished all of her homework at school, grandma had let her join in and watch a drama with her. it was a medical drama, and never before, had suyeon ever been so enthralled. by the end of it, her face was only inches away from the television screen, yelling words of encouragement at the surgeons as they performed a surgery to save a life. it was in that moment, that she realised how much she wanted the woman to live. how much death devastated her. the next day at dinner, suyeon announces her plans. the entire family are on board and she promises to make her dream a reality.

age 10 - 16 ∙ unspectacular puberty. suyeon was awkward, to say the least. she was extremely shy, definitely not the sort of person she is now. her only friend was moon jieun, who was... quite the opposite of suyeon. high school and adolescence was uneventful. suyeon studied hard, studied a lot. she was a bit of a pushover, often sharing her homework (and getting scolded for it) and giving exam tips.

age 17 ∙ at the age of seventeen, suyeon's father got into a car crash. it was critical, and surgery was needed immediately — his lungs were filling and there was no time to spare. it was fortunate enough for suyeon and her family, that the surgery went well. despite always knowing that she had wanted to be a doctor, it was at this moment that she decided she wanted to be an emergency room surgeon. to operate on acute traumatic events. and although it seemed bloodly, and ultimately devastating, it was her decision. it was in this moment that her family had come to refute her dream, for the first time ever. but suyeon was adamant.

age 18/19 ∙ despite other universities being well reknown for their medical courses, suyeon had her heart set on hyeongsin. her plan was to complete pre-medicine at hyeongsin, and then transfer to seoul national university for her post-graduate. and it was that suyeon was bragging but she had always been an academic, and passing the entrance exam had been far easier than she had expected. she was set for hyeongsin university. at first, sororities were never on her horizon. actually, any extra-curricular activity wasn't really thought of unless it entailed something medical and was guaranteed to give her extra credentials. maybe the medical student society. or some internships. never had suyeon thought that she'd be joining a sorority. but here, she found herself, already at bid day. her first year of pre-medicine was tough, she floundered, struggling to keep up with the workload. no amount of preparation had her expecting the transition from secondary to tertiary education to be so intense. but through it all, the support that her kdg sisters had given her made her not only persevere through her first year, but become more open, more amiable, more structured and organised. she learnt skills at parties that she never thought she'd have. she was already likeable, but suyeon was always too shy to make conversation. that all changed. in fact, suyeon ended up becoming one of the more popular freshman amongst all the frats and sororities — not only for her personality (definitely not just that), but for her looks ('jesus christ, look at her legs.) and her little known fact of turning every boy that had hit on her. even park yuri, the hot new freshman at sigma tau that everyone was gushing over. amongst this first year of experiences, suyeon has to thank euddeum the most. without her, suyeon doesn't believe she'd be the person she is today.

age 21 ∙ it wasn't until suyeon was a junior that she had been given the position on the executive board as the new member coordinator. it was an entirely unanimous decision, as everyone saw that suyeon was perfect for the spot and she was willing to take it up. with a little stumbling here and there, suyeon successfully integrates her nmc duties into her normal life, turning up the level of her busy schedule one notch more. and although she gets overwhelmed sometimes, she doesn't mind. it's rewarding.

TRIVIA
curse me, curse you · living in a house that was so utterly crammed entailed that there were many rules set and had to be followed, for an order to be kept and chaos not to erupt. because of that, suyeon had always been one to follow rules, even well after their expiry date. one of these said rules is cursing. she had never cursed at home, and because of her reserved ways during high school, she had never really interacted with those that would curse. it has become a habit that's thoroughly ingrained in her nature, and if she ever lets a curse word slip, you'd be sure that she'd apologise profusely and promise that it'd never happen again. this is rare, of course, as suyeon is controlled, but in fits of burning anger or elation, she might let a little 'damn' or '' slip. oops.

bottoms up · drinking is not really something suyeon enjoys, and despite the countless frat parties she has been too, she has only been well and truly drunk a handful of times. she often says that she dislikes drinking because of the disorientation, the loss of oneself and inability to take care of oneself. however, she will get tipsy because it loosens her up and she gets the slightest bit more talkative, and there's a handful of drinks she enjoys. her go-to's are usually things like wine-coolers or cocktails or even regular wine (even though she can't fathom how people enjoy it unless it's moscato, which in that case, tastes like candy water). she despises beer and hard liquor and rarely does shots, even though she's surprisingly good at downing them. she stays away from any dark liquor or things with high alcohol percentages. if she's going to shotting anything, it's usually soju or vodka.

when suyeon does get drunk, however, she's a little rowdy. talks to everybody, gloats about her accomplishments and life ambitions, gets a little handsy, dances a lot and encourages more shots. yeah, you definitely don't see this suyeon very often. the run of post-final parties after her junior year was the most times she had gotten drunk in a year. three. (you can't blame her, she was worried for her results, going through heart break and dealing with a confession.)

the heart wants · similarly to how she grew up, suyeon likes to make little rules for herself. and although most of them go well, there's a few that are set up for failure the moment they're made. there's her well planned out career pathway that entails something like, finish pre-medicine at hyeongsin, do medicine at seoul national university, begin her residency and then return to study for trauma care. somewhere after that, she throws in the plan of her love life, to fall in love with a doctor (probably during her residency) and get married and be two successful surgeons and you know, romance. (spoiler, the love life part of the plan goes straight down the drain). she has strict times in which she gets up (not particularly when she sleeps, however), what she eats, how she speaks (see: curse me, curse you) and many little things in between.

kitchen blues · growing up in such a large household always meant that suyeon was helping her mother and grandmother in the kitchen. because of that, she had learnt many skills that she had taken with her into the kappa delta gamma house. she often cooks breakfast for the sorority sisters, and although they all think that she's doing too much for them, it's actually fun for her and a little bit of leisure. suyeon is most famously known for her chocolate chip cookies, however, even to the extent where boys she had turned down even had the audacity to continue to 'court' her for more of the chocolate-y goodness. many of the kdg girls are protective over her recipe and makes sure to gloat over them at bakesales.

additionally to suyeon finding pleasure in the monotonousness of cooking, suyeon also cooks when she's upset. she'll make batches upon batches of cookies. cakes. pasta. this leaves conflicting feelings for the girls because although they're elated that there's so much food, they get a little worried about suyeon. despite this, suyeon rarely gets too upset (the time in which she was getting over joohyuk (yes, both times) was a gluttonous time for the kappa delta gamma house) and there's an obvious distinction between suyeon's leisure cooking and suyeon's sad cooking.

a methodological mess · organisation is one of suyeon's strong suits, where she has a well-used planner and three phones (two of them she rarely uses, in all honesty), there is one thing that doesn't seem all too organised — her room. suyeon is always studying, always writing notes, and so there's a constant scatter of paper and textbooks on the floor on suyeon's half of the room. often times you'll see jieun tiptoeing her way around the piles of paper, worried that she'll crinkle something important. other than her studies and planning for new member stuff, she isn't particularly messy. she cleans up after she eats, she washes and folds her clothes instantly and vaccuums/dusts rather often.

who's pop culture? · to say that suyeon is a little uncultured might be a slight exaggeration but it isn't too far from the truth. there's a few things she's interested in (i.e. the occasional random netflix series, she likes black mirror) but she doesn't tend to deviate from that. she feels that her overwhelming schedule is partly at fault, as she purely doesn't have time to be digging herself into new hobbies. she sticks to listening to the top 40 (korean and american) and t.v. shows like grey's anatomy or medical documentaries. when it comes to things she has to plan as an nmc, there's a fair amount of research having to be done on suyeon's part to figure out things that are in and hip at this moment. her collaborations with sigma tau's nmc has always been helpful, as it seems that yuri is well versed in everything pop culture.

social med(ical)ia · two social media platforms that suyeon prefers are twitter and instagram. she keeps facebook for family and pushes more of her sorority centered things toward twitter and her interest in photography toward instagram. suyeon has over three thousand followers on twitter and five thousand on instagram. suyeon is being tagged in tweets and pictures almost constantly, she rarely goes a day without a tag notification on either platform. comments always stream in, and especially on twitter, where conversations thread on for hundreds of tweets at a time, often skewing from the original topic at hand. there's a plethora of pictures of her online, especially when she spends time with others or she gifts anyone anything. the most hectic time would be bid day — in which threre are times in which her phone doesn't stop ringing with notifications.

suyeon dedicates her instagram for more artsier things, less so pictures of parties or sorority stuff, and more so pictures of food, scenery and fashion.

lgbtq+ rights, right? · suyeon is biual biromantic, however, this is truly only knowledge to herself as there's many reasons as to why coming out would be detrimental to both her career and her social life. she supports all lgbtq+ rights and has even shown face at a rally or two. she eventually feels that she'll have to come out — it's inevitable but there's a part of her that wishes she will just fall in love with a man and won't have to speak about it.

misc. likes/dislikes · likes — studio ghibli, frank ocean, baked goods, rainy weather, streetwear fashion, children, karaoke, granola, the occasional indulgence of gummy candies.
dislikes — uncertainty, hot weather, rudeness, dodgy makeup products, spicy food, lateness, disorganisation, raspberry flavoured candy or beauty products.

confident, witty reliable, practical, headstrong, competitive

and it wasn't until rather recently — where nayeon was running for president and suyeon was the new member coordinator for the first year, that they had actually gotten close. and whilst nayeon was aware of suyeon's motherly nature, she was never one to dig into that. that's no to be mistaken though, suyeon will still cook breakfast for her or give her a little snack here and there, but when it came to advice — whether it be about academics or boys, nayeon never felt like it was entirely necessary to confide in suyeon. however, once nayeon was running for president of the sorority, their bond had tightened, far more than either of them have expected. if suyeon were to give it a title, nayeon is one of her closest friends and her confidante. they don't particularly go to one another for advice or help or anything like that, but they do spend time with one another just to vent. if there's something that's overwhelming suyeon, she can guarantee that nayeon will have both the confidentiality as well as the listening skills.

this relationship goes both ways, and so when all the other girls have run off to another frat party, suyeon and nayeon sit at the dinner table, studying and unloading about the stresses that pile up within their lives. nayeon is definitely the first to know about suyeon's worries, and some times, the only one. suyeon tends to bottle up more than what could be considered healthy, and her small outlet with nayeon allows her to free some of the pent up tension. even if it's a little. even if it took some time brewing, suyeon loves the friendship she has with nayeon and believes it'll last a life time.

overly ambitious, innovative, reliable, responsible, blunt, stubborn
(csmicgirls' character)

since maria hasn't finished her app this stays here lol ([over]ambitious (in terms of juggling greek life, college life, and social life), innovative (sort of the very practical and sensible, macgyver sort of girl), reliable and responsible-- that aplus student kind of trope. blunt to the point of being crass (i think the only person she isn't crass to is suyeon and the president, out of respect. everyone else is free game) horrible at self management (related to her high ambition), hates admitting to fault (stubborn, strong-willed, almost inflexible at times) occasionally overly stressed and micromanages without realization)

there's similarities that lie between suyeon and yewon, in their work ethic and their little games of how many things can i juggle at once? and with this, anyone would agree that there is no one better to be yewon's big than suyeon. despite being the unofficial mother for the entirety of the sorority, yewon is by far, suyeon's number one priority when it comes to doting and caring. and it's not just because yewon is her little, but yewon really really tries. she works so hard and any moment that suyeon might see yewon faulter, she will surely be there to catch her. suyeon is constantly asking if she's eaten (and sitting her down and getting some food in her whenever she says she hasn't), she'll help her out with organisational things and will always be there to listen when it's needed. yewon lovingly replies with a solid eyeroll and groan of, 'mom....'

whenever suyeon finds the free time, she'll surely be hitting up yewon for lunch (her shout, of course), she will constantly text her and see if everything is going down well, too. when it comes down to romance, suyeon is always nagging and making sure yewon is being both safe and logical, even though she's well aware that she is.

suyeon hides her stress well, especially from yewon. even if yewon doesn't explicitly express it, suyeon has become some sort of role model for yewon, and so she tries her best to not let the cover falter. and whilst suyeon gets overwhelmed, she bottles it up and trudges on, making sure that everything is okay with yewon because how can suyeon ever let her see this sort of weakness? suyeon hides this, she really does, but yewon is no fool. there's times when their roles reverse and yewon makes sure that suyeon is coping, even if suyeon puts up a fantastic front of being okay.

(pajeons' character)

lmao since jenn hasn't finished her app this will stay here (but she's like temperamental, confrontational and a bit aggressive and bossy but she's also one of the most friendly people ever and is a good listener (when she's not talking about herself) and like, very fun and outgoing and stuff?)

and amongst the girls in the sorority that suyeon call her children, jinseul is by far, the most problematic. time after time, has suyeon come running behind to mop up the verbal messes that jinseul leaves, apologising for the crass words that leave . similarly to nayeon, jinseul and suyeon hadn't really kicked of a friendship immediately, probably because suyeon was the slightest bit intimidated at the brutal honestly and straightforwardness of jinseul and gauged that she could hold her own. conversely, that was exactly the case, and jinseul didn't find it particularly necessary to rush off to the resident mom for some help. however, on a particular night where jinseul's hyperventilating, freaking out about the planning of a certain project, suyeon stumbles upon the younger girl and finds that it's only right if she crouches down and helps her out (even if she really was only walking past to the kitchen to get a drink and actually had to get back to her thermo report). and that night, where jinseul thought everything was about to fall apart, suyeon helped her salvage the remains it turned out to be a huge success. from there, is where their friendship blossomed and jinseul really saw the reason why everyone was so enamoured with the resident mom.

and from there, whilst jinseul creates drama for suyeon to run after and clean up, she also gives the 101's of all the social aspects of greek life. it wouldn't be a surprise if jinseul saw suyeon talking to a boy at a party she didn't agree with, and making it her mission to stomp up there and tell suyeon of all the boys to steer clear of. when it came down to joohyuk, jinseul was constantly giving suyeon advice on what to do and what to say, and often telling her to 'dump  his ' because apparently suyeon deserved the best and he just wasn't up to par. in weird role reversal sort of way, there are times where jinseul and suyeon swap positions and jinseul is always making sure that suyeon isn't finding herself in weird situations with weird boys. but it all flips back to the usual blueprint when jinseul throws her drink at someone at last night's sigma tau crush party and suyeon has to usher in and apologise for her rowdy daughter.

in comparison to other girls, the relationship that suyeon has with ahreum is a little superficial. and it's not to say that they aren't close, because that has never been the case. when they had first met, it was instantaneous friendship, suyeon claiming her as one of her daughters. a lot of their conversations entail suyeon coddling ahreum, ahreum fighting back, and lots of banter.

ahreum would rarely (if ever) see any worrisome sides of suyeon, as she keeps up a fantastic front — completely organised and proper. every now and then they'll go get coffee together or go shopping, which leads to lots of ahreum being cute so that suyeon will buy her things, and suyeon giving in and buying her gifts. occasionally, suyeon offers to help ahreum with her vice presidential duties and ahreum swiftly takes up the offer, every time. additionally, ahreum is always the first to sit at the kitchen table whenever suyeon is cooking, ready for anything that's presented in front of her.

childhood friends, but they could not be more different from one another. where as suyeon is motherly, assiduous, ambitious and intuitive, jieun's a little more... doltish. they've been together for so many years, that it seems  their dynamic just works. and although a lot of suyeon's motherly duties are limited to those in lower grades, she finds herself doting on jieun quite often; less so about eating or taking care of herself (because she does that just fine), but moreso about studying and actually getting her work done. it seems, after some failed classes, despite being a senior, jieun mightn't actually be able to graduate on time. suyeon makes it her mission to asure that jieun doesn't add any extra time on top of that and gets her cracking onto studying.

whenever suyeon finds the time, she does like to go out to dinner with jieun, catch up and reminisce. jieun is supportive of everything that suyeon endeavours in, and will wordlessly cheer her on from behind. when suyeon had begun dating joohyuk, jieun always had to sacrifice her own bed for an impromptu sleepover in ahreum's room so she could leave joohyuk and suyeon to their own vices (whenever nayeon felt like it was okay to bend the rules and let him stay, that is).

suyeon and yuri's meeting was one to be written into history. it was one of the first parties suyeon had actually ever attended as an official kappa delta gamma, and it was by no surprise that she had been quite the popular candidate to get hit on. she wasn't sure if it was because she was being too nice or that too much of her legs were exposed and that drew in that unwarranted crowd of thirst, but it was a shock to suyeon. actually, she wasn't even aware that half of the boys that she had coversed with were actually trying to get her number, but it seemed she was pretty swift with turning a blind eye at any advances. this truly only became news to her after she met park yuri. park yuri was the hot new freshman on campus, the boy that everyone was swooning over. suyeon had actually heard rumors about him, but she was never interested, never paid attention. all she remembers is that he was half korean, and half russian, or something. that night, yuri and suyeon talked a lot. they sat outside on the curb in front of the sigma tau house, with red solo cups in hand as they spoke of their high schools, their first weeks in greek life and hyeongsin in general. he invites her for drinks at the campus bar the following week, and she curtly agrees, which lights a big green go signal for yuri. he leans in for the kiss, and suyeon immediately draws away, a look of bewilderment washed all over her face.

after that incident, where euddeum tells her that suyeon was the first girl to turn down yuri so blatantly, they actually became friends. the most time they spend together is during the first week of semester, where they like to come together and brainstorm, find ideas for bid day. when that time passes, they often go for the casual drink together or they'll see each other at parties, in which they'll strike up conversations and reminisce about that time suyeon turned him down.

it's unfortunate that suyeon doesn't get to see euddeum nearly as often as she'd like, but there is something between them that suyeon would always say, and she'll take it to her grave: euddeum was the best big she could have ever wished for. if it weren't for euddeum, suyeon truly believes that she wouldn't be where she is now. and although she credits the entirety of the kdg support system, euddeum was a pivotal part of it all.

it was the news that suyeon's big was also a pre-medicine major that sent her into elation. she knew that she could learn from the elder and she did. euddeum was her role model, in every sense and word. for her first year, she mimicked a lot of euddeum's mannerisms, her organisational skills, her overall vibe. and although suyeon has definitely found her own by now, it was what got her through her first year of tertiary education. it was what helped her open up, make friends, become someone who was actually popular at parties.

now that euddeum is in medical school, suyeon rarely sees her, only bumping into her on campus here and there. they schedule monthly dinners and catch up, and fill each other in on everything that has happened. euddeum always loves seeing just how much suyeon grows, each and every time.

walking into a new university campus is daunting, it's especially daunting when you walk into your first ever lab class, without a single friend. it was to suyeon's advantage that she left those three hours with one new friend — uisoo.

where uisoo and suyeon find similarities in one another in terms of career paths, dreams, aspirations and tenacity, they're rather different individuals. uisoo is eccentric, weird, if you will. and despite suyeon always sitting back in fits of giggles when uisoo shoves chopsticks in his mouth to imitate a walrus, over time, she has joined in with his outlandish antics, making voices and acting silly. she finds, that he might be the only person where she really can be like that around. this often sparks rumors of dating, but suyeon will be quick to deny, and uisoo shortly after. and although it's only become recent news to suyeon that he wants something more than a friendship (and well, that they slept together) she doesn't plan on letting that change their frienship. well, she hopes not.

they've had study dates that exceed twenty-four hours, they go to convenience stores and stock up on ramen (one of the only times suyeon may indulge in junk food) and energy drinks, ready to bring on the night with lots of notes and small banter with uisoo.

< / THE COLLEGE LIFE >
PLOTLINE   #3 the new member coordinator (#6 the sister)
MAJOR   pre-medicine
YEAR   senior, 4th year
EXEC POSITION   the new member coordinator
DAILY LIFE
academics ∙ suyeon's education is arguably the aspect of her university career that takes up the most space in her moleskine planner. for something that she has been planning for over ten years, it would be expected, that suyeon would put the majority of her time into her studies, into reaching her goal. whenever possible, suyeon schedules all of her classes rather early in the morning, and will have classes at least four times a week. the workload is high, and is always to be expected. suyeon makes an effort to attend most, if not all of her lectures but when they're scheduled later during the day, suyeon might have to skip them in turn for her internships (with reluctance). she makes sure they're all recorded; many a letter of complaint has been written for this to happen. suyeon is certain to always keep on top of her studies; one week behind makes the workload unbearable and so she dedicates many of her nights to studying and writing notes. she spends a lot of her time in the silence of libraries, furiously typing and writing away. her room, additionally, is a mess of notes and diagrams. parties will always be missed for a study date with her neuroscience textbook. academics is for sure, suyeon's number one priority.

internships/jobs ∙ ever since her freshman year at hyeongsin, suyeon had searched for internships and assistant roles within the labs to further heighten her knowledge and credentials. most of the work in the labs happen after hours (or the later hours of the afternoon) and so they do not entirely interfere with her schedule. she currently has an intership in the biochemistry lab, in which she shadows a few of the professors in their research, as well as assisting. she additionally has a paid role in the anatomy labs as a technical research assistant, where she handles a lot of cadaveric material.

sorority ∙ fortunately enough for suyeon, her duties as the new member coordinator are over within the first few weeks of the semester. she dives fast and hard into her duties, always striving to plan the best bid day and iconic parties (historically, they've always been a hit. suyeon doesn't settle for anything less than perfection). however, her duties as the sororities mother never really ends. among the first preliminary weeks, a lot of the freshman have warmed up to suyeon and always go to her for help (particularly because she always offers it, whether or not she has the free time is a different story) and these relationships extend way past freshman year and later into their next years. and suyeon can't help but be maternal, always asking if the girls have eaten yet (and if they haven't, she'll scurry off to the kitchen to prepare something), she'll give out study tips or just minor advice on the boy they're currently crushing on. because of the relationship that nayeon and suyeon shares, suyeon is always asking nayeon if she needs any assistance in her presidential role, in which nayeon will sternly deny, knowing well that suyeon had way too much on her plate already. there are times, here are there, where suyeon will aid the rest of the executive board (mostly pinning it on the fact that she's a part of it, and even though her job is over, she can still help), regardless of the state of her schedule. additionally, one of her biggest priorities within the sorority is not just to be motherly to all the girls, but be an amazing big to yewon. to be a good role model will always be one of her major priorities and she will wordlessly drop everything she's doing to aid yewon if necessary.

leisure leisure time is minimal. her free time is usually thrown into helping the other girls, cooking, or just taking a well deserved nap. suyeon has become so accustomed to her schedule that even on the days where she can sleep in, suyeon still finds herself waking up at 7 a.m., bumbling about in the kitchen and keeping herself occupied. it seems that she can't particularly sit still. she'll spend time with girls in the sorority or her well-loved pre-medicine friends. they're a small cohort, and upon reaching senior year together, they definitely have formed a tight bond. they often like to hang out and get coffee and for once, speak about things that aren't medicine. during massive bouts of free time, suyeon might even watch some television shows. mostly grey's anatomy reruns. when the free time shows itself, suyeon also isn't going to say no to a good party. she likes to dance and let loose a little, but also she likes to make sure that all the girls are safe.

timetable suyeon's monday schedule
· alarm at 6:15 a.m
· shower, get dressed, put on makeup, pack her bag by 7 a.m.
· go downstairs to make and eat breakfast (will make extra). finish by 7:45 a.m.

· hour break for lunch, will usually catch up with a sister or friend, finish by 12 p.m.

· two hours group study at the library with pre-medicine cohort, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
· go home to the house, make dinner (or buy dinner) and catch up, finish by 10 p.m.

SO, HELLO, HI! HOW ARE YOU? I SWEAR THIS WON'T TAKE LONG.

it all felt a little too formal, considering who was giving the interview and their entire relationship and all, but she decided to indulge, a small grin that twitches at the corner of her lips. she straightens out the back of her skirt as she takes her seat across from ahreum, one leg crossed over the other. 'hey ahreum! i've been great, you know, same, same! and take your time if you must, you have my undivided attention.' a small flutter of a laughter leaves her lips as she bites at the inside of her lower lip, tipping her head to the side slightly, 'how are you, though, my girl?'

'oh my god, mom— suyeon, i'm good!' they both giggle together whilst suyeon's line of sight skirts over to nayeon, who has her arms crossed as she sits in a chair beside ahreum, a small kink of a smile unveiling itself on her lips. suyeon flashes a quick grin in her direction before returning her attention to ahreum.

nayeon clears , making sure the banter doesn't go on for a little too long. ahreum shakes her head a little and clasps her hands together, 'let's get started!'

'right, right, fire away, 'reum!'

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO GO KAPPA DELTA GAMMA?.

the question prompts immediate laughter from the elder, as by this point, suyeon could never imagine ever being in any other sorority. she lets out a small sigh as an immediate influx of memories fills her head, 'you girls are making me feel old,' suyeon pauses, a cheeky grin, 'but back in my freshman days, i had never even thought of joining a sorority.'

ahreum looks a little taken aback, considering just how much suyeon puts herself into kappa delta gamma, whereas nayeon looks completely unfazed — already having heard this story once before. 'you, what? seriously?'

'seriously!' suyeon chuckles, 'i did research on hyeongsin, before coming here' 'as one would,' ahreum interjects, poking a little fun at the senior. suyeon shoots her a little playful glare before continuing, 'and found out that greek life was huge here. it'd be wrong of me not to check it out.' suyeon nods, shrugging her shoulders. 'and well, kappa delta gamma was the best sorority around back then — still is!' suyeon quickly tags on, which makes nayeon snicker. 'and i could never settle for second best, right? that's why i chose us.'

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CURRENT EXEC BOARD? NO PRESSURE, YOU CAN BASH US, WE'LL PRETEND WE DIDN'T LISTEN.

suyeon's amused, she giggles at ahreum's wording of the question, knowing fully well that these words were set constant, for everyone she was interviewing. suyeon purses her lips, as if she's stuck i thought, in a small breath, 'well considering i am on the current executive board...' her words drag on, playfully, before both ahreum and suyeon can't hold it anymore and crack into a laughter.

'i don't think there's much to say, right, ahreum? we're a good bunch — the best. we do our best for this sorority because each and every girl deserves it.' a firm nod. 'i have no complaints about the executive board; all of you, are perfect.

nayeon rolls her eyes and suyeon catches glimpse of it in the corner of her eye, 'pres, are you rolling your eyes? at my comment?'

'you don't need to up so hard, oh my god—'

'well i'm not gonna say we , because we don't, and i love you all and you guys do an amazing job? what else is there to say!'

WHAT'S THE BEST AND WORST PART OF BEING IN A SORORITY, IN YOUR OPINION?.

suyeon nods, immediately knowing her first answer, no contemplation. 'the support system, for sure. the girls, we're like a family, you know?' ahreums is nodding, agreeing with the words that suyeon speaks. 'you're constantly with your friends, your family, always supporting one another and sharing each other's burdens. that's the best thing about a sorority.'

for the second part of the question, the answer doesn't come as easily. because despite not wanting to join a sorority in the beginning (what a silly thought, suyeon thinks), there aren't many faults or cons to it. all the so-called 'worst' parts of being in a sorority were rather trivial and all the pros had definitely outweighed it.

'i guess, all the parties? which isn't even a bad thing, but...' suyeon lingers on for a second, 'it kinda when i'm stuck up in studies and i can't attend all the parties.' suyeon bursts into giggles once more, ahreum joining in.

'you and nayeon both, two of the most popular girls, and you guys always ditch parties!'

'it can't be helped.' nayeon comments, shrugging her shoulders, a smile on her lips.'yeah, my neuroscience homework isn't gonna do itself, ahreum.' suyeon quickly adds, thinking about the moments in which they sit together on the dinner table, studying and catching up on all their life-time drama.

SO, UH, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE RIVARLY WITH TRI DELTA?.

this question, for most, would have a pretty certain answer, but for suyeon, she found it all a little trivial. the sorority was always informed of the rivalry, and although it would entail a sort of... distaste for tri delta, suyeon didn't feel too strongly about it all. she had a handful of friends within the sorority, and whenever they would clash at parties, suyeon would be getting friendly with the other girls more than anything. 'i feel like it's a little silly, really.'

'but...' suyeon trails off once again, a thought lingering on the tip of her tongue, 'i'm competitive. this is the first year that we don't have the title.' she bites down on her lip, stern. 'i want it back — we need it back, i want it back before i leave.' a huge wave of melancholy suddenly washes over suyeon, and she sits back in her chair, a finger tapping softly on her leg as she sits in thought, silent.

'i have nothing against the girls, really. they're all sweet. but i truly think that we deserve that title.' ahreum and nayeon both nod in silence and suyeon instantly shifts out of the awkward blue mood, and smiles. 'we'll take back what's ours.'

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR CURRENT LIVING ARRANGMENTS?.

ah, moon jieun. the question instantly reminds her of her closest friend and roommate. 'honestly, girls, i wouldn't have it any other way. living with you all has been such a treat.' she nods twice, a soft sigh leaving her lips as the thought of graduating still lingers in the back of her head.

'i think it's the real treat for us, with all your cooking, suyeon. can i have an eta for the next batch of cookies, or—' nayeon's eyes widen, 'ahreum!'

'sorry! i'm craving.'

suyeon giggles and flashes a grin, 'i'll make some tonight. but, yeah. i have no complaints about my living situation. i love my roommate. i wouldn't have it any other way. if anything, you should be asking if jieun is okay with the mess that i make in our room!'

WELL, THIS IS ALL! SEE, I TOLD YOU IT WAS GOING TO BE QUICK.

'oh, that was quick!' suyeon grabs her bag that she placed on the table well before the interview started and rummages through the contents for a second, 'any of you girls hungry? i have a granola bar or two...' she whips out two wrapped bars and flashes them in front of her, seeing if either of them would take up the offer.

'oh, me!' ahreum takes one and swiftly unwraps it from the plastic; the air of professionalism (although minimal) had completely disappeared by this point.

'i'll see you girls later! take care. don't forget to eat.'

'yes, mom.' both ahreum and nayeon reply in a monotonous unison, leaving a warmth in suyeon's chest as she opens the door to the room and exits.

gummy · if there is one miniscule imperfection to be mentioned about joohyuk, it'd be that his smile is a little gummy. upon the pair becoming close, suyeon noticed that joohyuk was incredibly confident in himself, a little vain (or a lot) and would say that he, himself, had no flaws. height, body (let us not forget the first time suyeon caught a glimpse of his body when he was pulling off his sweatshirt over his head and his shirt rode up a little), face and intelligence. and while he wasn't wrong, lee uisoo, their mutual friend would call him 'gummy' in reference to his smile, and to bring down his inflated ego a notch. suyeon thought it was adorable and picked it up, often calling him this name affectionately.

PERSONALITY

and i don't think i wanted love self-assured, bold, ambitious, candid, affable, intuitive, flirtatious but this is magical and we haven't spoke dramatic, impulsive, selfish, unyielding, quick to judge since we last kissed
entp ('the debater') · chaotic good · pisces

ELABORATION
tl;dr: confidence on the border of cocky, cheeky. knows what he wants and will do anything in order to get that. does not stutter in his moves, a lot of his actions are made upon quick thoughts (which can be both beneficial and detrimental). thinks about himself a little more than he should. incredibly friendly and sociable, very popular. quick to make friends, but also quick to lose friends. probably a kind of dodgy judge of character. gets lost up in his own world sometimes.

(selfish in his way to succeeding in his career, which lead to the fall apart of their relationship. he was also selfish in the fact that he wanted suyeon and went for it too quickly. impulsive in the fact that one bad experience (the first crush party) lead him astray. potentionally selfish in the fact that he still wants suyeon, despite the fact that they're incompatible as of current.)

if only we had met earlier. it had to be here, of all places?

and it always begins in a place where you least expect it and when you least expect it, at the most inconvenient of times and with the sharp jab of an overwhelming new found emotion. and it's not something truly willing to be explored (more so to be shoved into a dark corner of the depths of their crowns) as there's other things to be done and other voices that call. the place in which they first meet screams everything but romantic, metal trays that clang on the cold surfaces, blood stained gloved finger-tips and scalpels that cut through flesh — a mind on the specimen before her on the desk was far more imperative than the specimen that walked about from table to table, giving tender smiles and helpful words. to say that he lingered by her counter for far longer than others was a reach and a wishful thought in her whimsical mind. but when a fellow classmate points out that suyeon is the obvious favourite student to the young, new teacher’s assistant, she can't help but shrink into her lab coat, a red flush crawling up her neck and decorating her ears a soft rose.

and she's sure it's an unrequited infatuation, a fondness and admiration for him (physically, mentally) as she recalls that their conversations consist of chemicals, functions and formulae, nothing that would remotely incline toward reciprocation (not that she's looking for it, as she hasn't even voiced it) and she attempts to bring herself back from the orbits of space and into the realities of earth. that lasts until suyeon is swiftly reminded of the joke that he told during their lab on digestive enzymes — it was weak, embarrassing even, but laughter erupts from her lips and a grin graces his.

but again, suyeon reminds herself that there are other things that need to be done, other priorities that call out to her (the sorority, her sisters, her studies and her internships) and to fall in love would be nothing but an inconvenience. on one end we have the mulling and weighing and fires of conflict, and on the other, for nam joohyuk, there’s an undetermined fondness, unexplored and un-dissected.

upon their last class together, suyeon feels both elation — where she can escape the warm smiles of nam joohyuk, where she can forget about the times he would touch her hand in guidance and she’d feel her heartbeat triple in a second, or where he would lean close enough that she could smell the soft scent of his musk and cologne — and defeat, where she would desperately miss his presence and all the quirks she’s seen of him. his god awful handwriting or his shaky fingers (he tells her that he’s desperately working on it, a surgeon can be nothing but sturdy!), or even his imperfect smile that showed way too much of his gums.

but before she can leave and trash this short-lived moment of what she’d label romance, joohyuk has a little bit of a different agenda.

‘suyeon! go suyeon!’ there’s no mistaking that voice. ‘wait up, i want to talk.’ they talk, they reminisce moments from their labs together and walk toward the kappa delta gamma mansion. suyeon tells him about sorority, he tells her he was once in a fraternity during his pre-medicine years (sigma tau, in fact), and they — god help suyeon — bond. they step away from a teacher-student relationship, and it propels so much further forward in a fifteen-minute stroll than they could have ever expected.

‘it’s a shame we had to meet in a biochemistry lab, not fun at all.’ ‘it’s a shame i didn’t meet you earlier, suyeon.’ … ‘we’re having an event this weekend. come.’ where had this new found confidence come from? suyeon wanted nothing but to throw it back from whichever layer of hell it came from (had she been spending too much time with jinseul?).

‘i’ll be there.’

we managed to play all our cards all wrong

numbers were exchanged, kakao’s were added, and to some extent of dismay, contact was maintained. or so, suyeon labelled it dismay — she consistently attempted to remind herself of the inevitable pain, the impending chaos that was overcast and ready to rain down. but as much as she pushed the thoughts to cloud every image she had of joohyuk in her mind, when she gets a notification, her phone tings! promptly displaying a text message from said boy — nothing but a ‘good night’ and an emoji — it sends her heart into flutters as she pulls the covers over her head to muffle squeals. the further she tried to talk her way out, the further she dug herself in.

in her three years of greek life, suyeon had invited boys to parties — it wasn’t really thought too much upon — it was usually yuri, her new member coordinator partner-in-crime, or her friends from pre-medicine (those who weren’t in sororities or fraternities, yet wanted to experience it on the occasional weekend). but a sigma tau alumnus? a post-graduate medical student? her former teacher’s assistant? words circulated, quicker than she could refute. it was a new experience for suyeon, she had never really found herself caught up in 'drama' like this before (if you could even call it so).

the expected chaos began and although the whirlwind spun in her head, clouding her judgement and making her fingers tremble, she handled it with predicted grace — ‘he’s only a friend.’

introductions were hard, and many of them were had, several — as suyeon stepped from one group of friends, she was stopped by another and by the conclusion of the night she felt like she had gone through more than enough solo cups of cheap beer just to get through these encounters and introductions with an unknown boy by her side.

‘he’s a friend, he’s in medical school.’
‘just a friend.’
‘my friend from medical school.’
‘oh no, just a friend, he does medicine.’

the same phrase was spoken, over and over and as the night proceeded, joohyuk had left her side and was instead, socialising with his dearly missed sigma tau brothers. a relief washes over, suyeon feels like she's dodged a bullet and finally cleared the waters. it doesn't dawn on her until well after goodbyes are said and the alcohol had finally left her system the next morning. it strikes her like no other and so she squeezes her eyes shut and hopes for it all to be nothing but an unfavourable dream.

mistakes? she wasn't even pursuing him in the first place, right? and she tries to convince herself that neither was he, but when she sits on her bed at eleven a.m., still in her pyjamas (hours past her regular morning routine) it’s definitely something that’s eating her up from the inside out, as much as she tries to deny it. and love, romance, it was never something on her radar (in fact, she skewed away from it as much as possible) and for someone to come in and invade her thoughts like he had, has gotten her frazzled.

she ignores all the signs that could present itself as interest — their hands brushing against each other’s through the night, that one moment where he so gently put his arm around her waist that drew an insane look of shock over her soft features, or just how he would lean down to whisper in her ear and ask if she was okay or if she needed another drink or if she should consume some fluid that wasn’t soju or beer. she so desperately tries to whisk them away but the list grows in her head.

but as the ‘good’ signals pile up, she realises the bad ones — where she was going to introduce him to her little, yewon, and he instantly punches in with ‘we’re just friends,’ and goes off to watch kihyun, who seems to be chugging four beers. where she asks if he wants to go talk with her outside, somewhere a tad bit quieter and he denies, a turn of a shoulder that almost seemed cold.

and when it came to four nights after the crush party and her phone is yet to ring with a message from joohyuk, she declares it over. over before it even began.

that's the way everyday goes, every time we've no control

we’re all aware that by this point, suyeon isn’t someone to let something like this consume her – it was beyond her, truly, but she continued to find herself filled in her thoughts, unable to escape. and it wasn’t like she wasn’t trying, because she was (with the ever so sweet aid of her kdg sisters, profusely reminding her that she did not have time for romance, let alone someone like joohyuk), it was just that she found herself running into him at every turn and bend. you know that sudden occurrence that once you meet someone, they end up showing face everywhere? and you start to wonder if they had always been there – and you just hadn’t noticed – or it was a weird twist of fate. there's a part of suyeon, somewhere deep down, that believes in the absurd chance of fate.

but suyeon probably should have expected it. her efforts of getting over joohyuk during vacation were hard-worked – where she threw herself into her studies and sisters, she honestly thought she was successful. but alas, at the sight of his face, that gummy smile and the squint of his eyes and the quirk in his laughter – it opened the flood gates and brought it all rushing back. stupid? yes, definitely; but suyeon found herself helpless, she had never been so enamoured, even with the fact in mind that they hadn’t even kissed.

so when suyeon begins her internship in the biochemistry labs, she should have saw it coming — that he'd be there too, dressed in his white lab coat with pens stuck in his pocket, quietly going over details with the coordinator. and no matter how much suyeon denies it, jinseul thinks that suyeon had signed up with the thought of joohyuk being there in mind — a biochemistry teacher's assistant in a biochemistry lab? bound to be.

avoidance can only be kept up so long when in such close proximities, to be working side to side and handing each other latex gloves and dropping coloured liquids into cuvettes, suyeon swears that the electricity comes back, and it's raging. an unintentional bump of fingers turns into shoulder to shoulder contact, evolves into jokes and banter being thrown back and forth escalates to coffee breaks together (in which they for once, chat about things that aren't biochemical) and finally es to an experience that suyeon never pinned herself on having — not like this, anyway.

('you slept with him?! oh my god, you did–'
'don't be ridiculous! we just, i don't know... made out in his office a little.'

'details, soo, details!'
'i don't know! oh my god! it got kinda steamy, i guess?
i even almost considered doing it then and there–'
'suyeon!!!!'
'shush, please–')

and it was so truly unlike suyeon, that really has the girls gathered around and suyeon tells them that she might’ve had a steamy make-out session with joohyuk in the teacher’s assistant’s office.

jinseul squeals, and yewon has her hand over as she just stares, right at suyeon, not believing the words that had just left . and here’s the thing, other than nayeon, none of the other sisters had actually much intel on the suyeon-joohyuk relationship, as she kept it low-key, especially since all of them had taken such a huge part in helping her get over him. but something about this had felt like relief, like her doubts were answered and steps forward could be made. as if she could be certain of herself and this unsuspecting growing romance.

once the magic fades, suyeon is reminded that real life is never that easy. was she wrong? had she gone and completely ruined the immaculately planned timeline she’s built for herself (for the viewer’s pleasure, it goes something like, finish studies, become a doctor and then find love) the magic disappeared much faster than she had anticipated, and despite a kiss that felt otherworldly, her own doubts had resurfaced once more, to rain down on her parade.

amongst being so caught up in this infatuation, there had been small time frames in which she had forgotten to consider the impact a relationship would have on her already hectic lifestyle – was it something she could squeeze in? did she even have the time? with pre-medicine, the sorority and her internships, it seems that her plate was already full. there was no way she was just going to let a boy waltz his way into her life and make her throw away her priorities, her life that she had been working so hard to create up until now. and if he understands this, or not, is something she has yet to find out.

she knocks on her door, her fingers twiddling as she waits for the call for her to come in, dreading everything that she had planned to do. even if she and nayeon had talked the plan over four times last night, suyeon was still in doubts and definitely ready to backpedal any second. and besides, as soon as she saw his face, she knew that there’d be a little part of her that’d want to just kiss him.

suyeon thinks that a lot of the medical student body think alike – and it’s starting to become more and more true, because the conversation she had with joohyuk confirmed things. and whilst the talk left her a little perturbed (only a little because the conclusion was favourable and they also did sneak in a kiss) suyeon finds that it’s something she can agree on. it’s unanimous, a truth in which they both can’t deny, a certain electricity that resonates between the two that constantly flickers and flames when the channels open up.

conclusions were made. they agreed, that despite external interferences, they agreed that it could be something special. and it wasn’t something they thought could be ignored. compromises need to be made, and without ever leaving out the factor of career, they agree that for once; they should be allowed to be selfish. unwind from the plans, the career paths, the ambition that eats at their skulls bit by bit. forget rationale and indulge in their emotions. just a little. dating.

you showed me love, regard my dear, it's all downhill from here

suyeon had never been all too fond of labels, and whilst everything was still in its awkward, preliminary stages, she refused to put a name to the thing she had going on with joohyuk. and when questions arose about their status, suyeon felt the need to refute with a strong ‘no’ but instead she hesitates and glances in his direction, a sort of warmth that fills at the base of her stomach (a twist, churning) and rises to fill in a rosy flush up her neck. ‘we’re… sort of. yeah.’ and although they established on dating, suyeon still felt that it was too hard to utter the words from her lips, to come and realise that her timeline had gone a little askew, to realise that she was being selfish in putting her emotions before her career. and for this, it takes a bit of processing. that, however, does not mean that the reaction from the sorority was anything less of an uproar, as bets were paid (which made suyeon’s jaw drop in utter bewilderment and was soon followed up with a lecture about not putting money on someone’s love life), bottles of champagne were popped and suyeon would slink away into her room from the impromptu party to text joohyuk.

it’s not something suyeon readily admits, but she’s never had a boyfriend. but could you blame her? with a schedule she swears that any normal human can juggle (no they can’t) and her well thought out plan of attack for her career, it probably wouldn’t be big news to anyone that joohyuk was her first. and no movie nor romance novel could prepare her for the storm that was brewing; and whilst she felt that it was all an exaggeration, the skip of a heartbeat, the need to cast aside everything for one person, she had come to realise that it really wasn’t, and she was thrown into that mercilessly, emotions overflowing.

there’s very few things that suyeon would rank above the face that joohyuk makes when he sees her. when it illustrates him falling through the floor when she walks into his office, starbucks coffee in hand. and it all felt so natural, they sit elbow to elbow, soundlessly flipping through notes as they sink into the warmth of one another’s company. it didn’t seem forced, how he would ask how her day was or he’ll aimlessly slink on about his worries within the lab or even how a student spilt iodine all over his lab coat and was now terribly decorated with a huge purple stain.

she invites him to the house, and while she has her fingers linked with his, they ignore the coos that echo from the other girls as she drags him into her room and consequently kicks her roommate out (sorry, jieun!), closing the door behind her and turning to face him. soft gazes. and she pulls him close, skin against skin and kisses that skip down her neck. arms wrapped around her waist as he tugs at the fabric of her shirt, giggles bubbling and erupting as she blindly walks backward to hit the footboard of her bed, dragging him down with her, falling onto the sheets.

they lay, wrapped up in blankets and squished against one another, flush, on her small bed. it’s sweaty, there’s definitely not enough room for the both of them but it feels cosy. warm. he can’t help but scatter kisses; on her forehead, on the tip of her nose, down to her lips. she sighs softly, and she’s never felt a comfort like this before, a sort of contentment that made her want to stay like this forever, despite how physically unpleasant it all seemed to be. but alas, this was not what they came to her room for, not at all, and so it was time to break the romance – for now.

‘scoot, we actually have to study now. you promised to help me.’ ‘right, right. got a little side tracked there.’ and even though the situation had flipped from one vibe straight into another, there was a certain glow that felt the same. she sits propped up against her bed on the floor in her underwear (the doors locked, and jieun had promised to crash with ahreum, anyway), and joohyuk sits crossed legged on the bed as he fiddles with her hair with one hand and flips through her neuroscience report with the other. she passes up her cup of coffee to him in which he sips, and splutters, laughing about just how bitter it is. and although that’s probably not how most couples spend their all-nighters, it seems that suyeon wouldn’t have it any other way.

soon enough, there’s no secret to the suyeon-joohyuk relationship, as she had brought him to many a greek party, eventually introducing him to all her friends and acquaintances. and despite only having been a few months, she finds that their arrangement works, and that for all the doubts and fears she once had, this was much easier and she curses herself over and over for letting it slip the first time around.

and again, soon enough, suyeon finally finds it okay to call him her ‘boyfriend’. and although it sounds weird rolling off her tongue, it’s something she gets used to. she gets used to holding hands – or, holding hands without getting too nervous, he gets used to her sitting on his lap as they go through notes, he gets used to having to hold back during their time together in the labs, sneaking one another small glances, him shooting winks her way and suyeon responding with poking out her tongue. it’s all so new and there’s a lot of things to get accustomed to, but suyeon’s well and truly adoring all the twists and turns that come with him. to continually find out small quirks and habits about joohyuk. to always feel her heartbeat triple in speed whenever she caught sight of him or his awfully cute smile.

and maybe in a million years, when we're older

things that suyeon doesn’t like to be reminded about: that real life is not easy. things that suyeon seems to constantly be reminded of: real life is not easy. and no matter how much nicholas sparks makes you think that true love will work itself out, despite the consequences that surface, it’s really not that easy. although suyeon’s situation doesn’t particularly entail coma’s or cases of amnesia, it’s become apparent that things between her and joohyuk have begun to hit a rocky path.

and as much as they’ve both agreed to talk it out and always make compromises, to be thoughtful and aware of each other’s circumstances, some things just don’t go as planned. when ‘can i stay over?’ turns into ‘i can’t stay’ and invites of nights together turns into weak excuses about being busy, suyeon can’t help but feel a little powerless. they see each other less and less, the amount of ‘i miss you’ texts increase and one thing changes that suyeon had never ever predicted. her grades begin to drop.

the more she sits, sulking over the fact that joohyuk hadn’t texted her back, the more her schedule falls out of line, the more she forgets her priorities and spends it flipping through her gallery, looking at the cute selfies they took together on their trips. she sits, and wonders, what changed, what happened for all of this to fall to such pieces so quickly? and the thing is, it’s not all joohyuk, she wishes it was, but the amount of time she’s cancelled on him brings a rock to as she feels at fault, she feels responsible, catalytic to the demise of her first love.

she tries to piece things together – had she jumped into it too quickly? was the stress of finals week finally eating away at her every thought, emotion, flesh and bone? and while she sits on her bed with jieun mindlessly spilling random thoughts about her useless biology lecturer (suyeon had asked to keep her occupied) suyeon over-anaylses every aspect of their relationship. she’s unsure of how it can be fixed, if it can be fixed.

and she eventually pins it down on the fact that they’re at such pivotal moments in their life. she pins it on the fact that they delved into it too quickly and didn’t get to know one another – as friends – first.

suyeon is a punctual person, her sense of time is incredible, but for once, this is something that was ill-timed but utterly necessary and so she could not put it off for any longer that she really hoped for. and despite it being one week away from finals, she thought that the heartbreak might be good for her, the closure. and she knocks at his door, an odd jolt of nostalgia that courses through her – from the first time she walked in there to talk about the start of their relationship, to the amount of times she’s spent in his office studying, or otherwise. This time, however, it was a little different. and she curses at herself that this was the last memory she had to leave of this place, but it was inevitable and it was now or never.

it was mutual. it really was.
‘maybe in another lifetime, suyeon.’

it was in suyeon’s every intention to drown herself in her studies to forget about joohyuk. and so she calls up uisoo and they agree to meet at his dorm to study (he has a great little coffee table, an energy drink stocked fridge and great lighting) and suyeon packs up her things to go to his place. you see, things between suyeon and uisoo had always been a little weird (well not to them, personally, but to people that looked in from the outside), they were close, uisoo was a bit of a clown and despite suyeon’s reserved nature, it always made her fall into bits of laughter. he was, without a doubt, suyeon’s go-to study buddy and they’d often get a little competitive about their exam and quiz marks. their dynamic, to many, is far too close to be considered only friends, and no matter how many times they deny it, they’ve countlessly been asked if they’re ‘a thing’. they both throw their hands up and deny profusely. the amount of times it had happened causes them to laugh every time, suyeon often throwing an elbow into uisoo’s ribcage often saying how he’s nothing but a friend (‘he’s gross, anyway’).

however, it’s hyeongsin’s best kept secret that lee uisoo is indeed in love with go suyeon. and when suyeon comes bearing snacks, red-puffy eyes (that she swears the result of allergies and not her profuse crying), uisoo thinks that maybe, just maybe, he has a chance.

finals week is over, and for once, suyeon is wildly unconfident in her performance. it wasn’t unusual for suyeon to come back from her exams, announcing that she had aced them (and she well and truly always did) but this time, she waddled her way back through the doors of the kappa delta gamma house and beelines straight for her room, ready to nap away the stress and feelings. despite her attempts of forgetting joohyuk (once again, although it was a much tougher ride this time around) he was constantly on her mind.

the girls drag her to upsilon chi’s post-finals party (the first of many) and although she puts up a weak fight, she does dress up, she lets jinseul put on her makeup and she attempts to loosen up.

that attempt, however… went a little too well. she’s drunk. suyeon doesn’t get drunk. she gets tipsy, and then calls it a night so she can usher the girls home in a safe and secure manner. but amongst her finals doubts and the aftermath of joohyuk, suyeon doesn’t deny the fifth shot that yuri passes her and downs it without a second thought.

she finds herself outside, sitting on the brick-wall around a garden, a few metres away from the party. uisoo sits beside her, and she has her hands on her temples, a small groan escaping her lips as she tries to sober up. up until ten minutes ago, she was having a great time, not thinking about joohyuk and dancing around with the girls. but after one more shot (offered by the graceful moon jieun) she hits her limit and makes a run for the door, straight for the garden. she’s throwing up and it’s not pretty, and someone’s holding her hair back as she spits the gross taste out of . it wasn’t a bad assumption on suyeon’s part to think that the person aiding her was nayeon, but upon a hand holding out a red solo cup for her to drink, she notices a few rings, and that the hand was far manlier than nayeon’s.

‘drink. it’s water.’ and that voice was definitely manlier and not nayeon but in fact uisoo.

‘god that was embarrassing.’ ‘don’t sweat it, we all get rowdy.’ ‘thanks.’

it’s been fifteen minutes and she’s surprisingly sobered up a good amount, her head no longer spinning, but her brain still filled with a slight fuzz, a minor drag in her words. she leans on uisoo’s shoulder as she takes in the night-time air, lazily scanning the party from afar, identifying her sorority sisters and seeing if they were still okay. he lifts an arm and wraps it around her shoulder, and she snuggles in closer. he stares at her face, the way her eyelids would flutter, getting sleepy, the small bridge of her nose and her flushed pink cheeks. her lips, pouted and slightly down-turned. and he doesn’t know what comes over him, but he leans in closer.

and amongst things she thought that would happen that night, this was not even on the list. she finds herself pulling him behind her as she sneaks back into the house (thank god that the girls were still out at the party), running up the stairs as they giggle. she walks into her room and slams the door behind her. he turns, pressing her up against the door as he kisses, rough, hands at the hem of her shirt as he pulls it over her head. she runs her hands under his shirt before hastily pulling it off over his head. she makes instant work on the button of his jeans and he blindly reaches for the clasp of her bra. he’s littering messy kisses down her neck and jawline, his fingers dig into her soft skin as he pulls her close.

there’s levels of drunkenness. there’s that level where you wake up, forgetting everything you had done the previous night. but as much as suyeon had wished that was the case, she recalled every detail vividly. his sleeping body coming into view next to her as she rubs her eyes, was a nice reminder, too.

before waking uisoo, she feels around for her phone and grabs it, checking the time and her messages.

9 A.M. okay, not too bad.

1 new message.
< from: do not call!!! >
i miss you.

suyeon instantly locks her phone and tosses it away onto her bedside counter, she’ll deal with that later. now, she has to deal with this.

‘uisoo. uisoo, wake up.’

and while she was ready for uisoo to write it off as a drunken mistake (as she was), there was another surprise waiting for her.

there’s so many things to consider, suyeon’s sitting at the kitchen table eating a bowl of cereal as all the girls talk about the events of last night (luckily enough, suyeon had managed to sneak uisoo out and have no one know about the predicaments she had gotten into (she was going to tell them soon, but when, she hadn’t decided yet)) and she’s once again caught up in a million and one thoughts.

uisoo had confessed. it was weird, ill-timed and it made her completely confused. she liked him, of course, only as a friend. but the more she considered it, the more things fell into place, and just seemed to work. the fact that they were the same age, doing the same course, with similar dreams. the fact that he liked her a lot, and was always helpful throughout their friendship. the fact that they are indeed friends, before anything, something that suyeon didn’t have with joohyuk. but it always circles back to joohyuk. he had texted her after only a little over two weeks. that too, was ill-timed.

suyeon’s glad that finals are over, but she had never in her life time, expected that she’d be caught up in something like this. she never thought she’d ever allow herself to be caught up in something like this. oh, how things change.

ENDING
after reading the mess that is this love story, i give you full control of their ending lol. i mean, i'm leaving it at a pretty big spot so do what you will, but since it is... a little everywhere and... dramatic, here's a few ideas that could be their endgame:

· i feel like it's rather difficult, in the situation they are at, for suyeon and joohyuk to get back into a relationship? so if they were going to reconnect in anyway, i'd say they would continue being friends — they'd hang out and study together and what not, but stay strictly platonic. one, because they enjoy each others company too much, and two, because the premise of a relationship entails commitment, which they both can't particularly find at that moment. i think this idea also ends up helping one of the doubts that suyeon has: the one where she thinks they jumped into their relationship too soon without finding out more about one another on a friendship basis. but also, this extended time spent together 'platonically' will probably eventually end up with them back together, with some sort of compromise or something, idk. also you can also factor in the element of the uisoo one night stand for some drama lol

· the second option i guess is for suyeon to try and date uisoo, but i'm not entirely sure on how that'll go? he probably realises that he's a rebound, and isn't about to settle for that, despite how much he likes her. and suyeon probably ends up realising that she still very obviously has feelings for joohyuk and idk?? they might end up getting back together or just becoming closer again because due to suyeon's internships, she's bound to always be running into joohyuk.

· the last option is that they just never reconnect, awkward glances, superficial conversations. the way her heart would still race when she would see him, but instead of speaking to him, she'll walk off, telling herself that it's well and truly over and it wasn't meant to be.

TRIVIA
dates · as unspectacular as it seems, many of suyeon's and joohyuk's dates were study dates. with their equally packed schedules, they rarely had the time to actually go out and do anything romantic (suyeon lamely admits that she can count the amount of 'romantic' dates they've had on one hand) and so the time they spent together was mostly elbow to elbow, textbooks scattered, glasses sitting atop suyeons head as she furiously types away at her laptop. they'd take breaks in between here and there, share a granola bar and catch up on their day as she sits, throwing her legs over his lap.

timeline · oddly enough, the time that suyeon had gotten to known joohyuk had only equated to roughly, one school year. and it seems silly, to become so wrapped up in something that was so fleeting, something that didn't even last all that long. but, suyeon guesses, that's what romance was. its with definity that suyeon can say that her junior year was by far the most eventful year she's had. amongst the heartbreak, the internships, the friendships, it was overwhelming. and despite the adversity, suyeon admits that it was indeed, her best year yet at hyeongsin. senior year is going to have a tough time beating it.

nicknames · suyeon often called joohyuk 'gummy' and in return, he called her 'jelly'. when they were dating, she had his name saved as 'hunny gummy 💗' and he had her saved as 'jelly baby 😍'. after the break up, it's been changed to (courtesy of nayeon) 'do not call!!!'. additionally, she has uisoo saved as 'the best you ever had uisoo 😛' in which he typed  that in himself and she decided to humor him and keep it. he has suyeon saved as 'go-su ✌️️💕'. she doesn't know.

career · with such similar career goals, suyeon had always believed that was a prime factor in why they had clicked, right from the beginning. however, it was also the cause of their demise. they both aspire to be surgeons and had often made up cute (gross) little scenarios between the two of them where they'd meet for lunch on their breaks at the hospital. there's definitely a part, somewhere deep down in suyeon's heart, that thinks this will still happen. there's something about surgeons that suyeon really wants for her future. however, we all know fate has it's twisted ways, and many of the girls believe that she's going to end up with a lawyer, or something. but suyeon's pretty adamant — surgeons and all aspiring surgeons, call her. uisoo would also often kid around and say that he, too, was an aspiring surgeon, and she'd immediately wave it off, even if she knew well that he fit her 'criteria' perfectly. (he's an aspiring paediatric surgeon.)

banter · as mushy and gooey and romantic many people had thought they were (and don't get me wrong, they were — when they were out at greek parties or sitting around hyeongsin's library and cafeteria), when they spent time together, a lot of it was throwing banter back and forth; playful insults hurled against one another as they read over study notes. 'u tall as heck head-pooper, read my paper' 'it , 'ya asshat'. suyeon's lack of use of curse words makes her insults far less impactful. with this said, it doesn't go to say that they don't particularly love pda, because they're honestly always touching, whether it be ual or otherwise.

sorority · over the course of the second semester in suyeon's junior year, a lot of the kappa delta gamma girls had gotten used to suyeon bringing joohyuk around, and although many of them have taken a liking to him, it's without fail that they'll kick him out and curfew and suyeon will have to reluctantly kiss him goodbye. suyeon rarely admits that there has been a night or two in which she has spent at joohyuk's, but she doesn't let the girls know (save for nayeon).

labs · during the time suyeon and joohyuk were dating, they became well known as the 'lovebirds' of the biochemistry labs. if someone saw suyeon without joohyuk, she'd be asked, without a doubt, of his whereabouts. it's been a common little tradition that they've made that they'd meet in joohyuk's t.a. office for coffee before their internships and assistance within the labs. many a time, have they both come with coffee in hand and have doubled up. they'd usually hand them off to the professors or fellow intern students. suyeon knows joohyuk's coffee order by heart, and vice versa. (suyeons: double shot espresso, no sugar. joohyuks: double shot latte, 2 sugars).
