From her stage presence, Minako seems to be a cold beauty, when really she's a super funny ridicilous prankster. A walking meme. Minako's confident in her talents, sometimes her confidence oozes out and inspires other people. Humorous, Minako loves anything funny. Caring. Though Minako seems cold at times and ridicilous at times, she cares for her unnies and dongsaengs. Bold and brave. Minako loves to try new things, the first person to jump or do something. Ridicilous. Mischievious. Minako likes to play pranks on her fellow Mayhem members. Hardworking. Minako tries harder in training, since she's a foreigner. Minako's steadfast in achieving her dreams, which is to become an idol. Passionate. Minako's has a dynamic aura on stage, dominating like an alpha. Enthusiastic. She's like the embers of the fire.

Of course, along with her resting stone face, Minako can sometimes be cold. A little rude at times. Stubborn. If she thinks its A, then its A. Harsh. Minako once slapped a trainee in the face because that trainee wanted to give up and did nothing but whine (Minako did that for her own good, so she won't give. Despite having a good intention, it came out in a wrong way). Over-achiever. Minako's ambitious in pursuing her dreams. She doesn't want to make all the things she does, her sacrifices and other people's sacrifices for her, to nothing. Reckless. Her bold and brave attitude can sometimes make her do things without thinking the consequences. Sensitive. Despite looking funny at times and also icy at times, Minako has a soft and tender heart. Can cry easily.

 

BACKGROUND :　

Born in Chicago, USA, to an American father and a Japanese mother. Kayleigh/Minako was a carefree little girl. Back then, she didn't know English well and had trouble communicating. Her parents taught her English. Minako stutttered and her pronounciations wasn't that fluent back then. At school, her classmates welcomed her. They played along with her. Gradually, Minako became fluent in English. Minako can now communicate and socialize with her fellow classmates. Minako's parents also enrolled her to a dance club to take dance lessons (to chanel her huge amount of hyperactive energy). Minako loved it. To her, dancing is like expressing your soul. Minako was a cheeky lil girl, causing a ruckus here and there and a pain in the neck for her parents, but they loved her anyway. Minako grew up wonderfully. In short, she had a happy childhood in America.

6 years later, Minako's family moved to Japan, due to her grandparents (Minako's mother's parents) being sick and also because of her father's job. Despite being Japanese, Minako can't speak Japanese at all back then. Minako became a shy reserved student, and wasn't able to communicate well with her Japanese classmates. Minako's parents helped her in Japanese. Her grandparents also helped her in understanding Japanese. One way they did for Minako to learn Japanese was through stories of their lives. Minako enjoyed listening to every little detail. How her grandfather fought in the army, how her grandparents met etc. Later on, Minako's Japanese became fluent (it took some pratice). In Japan, there's a trending music called J-pop. Minako, at first, didn't like it. But gradually she found herself addicted to it, the beat of the music inspiring her to create dance moves. She joined her school dance club. Minako grew to love J-pop, and aspires to become an artist of J-pop one day.

One day Minako's parents offered to try to go to school overseas, like in Singapore, China or Korea. They also wanted her to be mature and to try and live by herself. Minako agreed (she loves to try new things). Out of all countries, Minako decided to go to Korea. Not only was  J-pop booming back then, but Kpop too. Minako was curious and wanted to learn more about Kpop, so she chose Korea. Minako prepared for her moving, practicing and learning Korean just a month before she moved. She learned the history of Korea, what to do and what not to do there, and so on. Finally, after 6 years in Japan, Minako moved to Korea by herself, and attended school there.

Her life in Korea was hard. A foreigner in a foreign country, living by herself. Sometimes, her life in Korea gets too hard and Minako wished to go back home. But her parents encouraged her on. Minako tried her best to adjust to her new life in Korea. Gradually, she's able to settle down. Minako, at that time, was interested in Kpop music only, not being a Korean idol (she still hold on to her dreams of becoming a Jpop artist). One day, Minako walked around town, and saw a group of teenagers entering a professional looking building. Minako was confused. Why would teenagers be working in an office? Minako asked her Korean seat mate at school, and her seat mate replied that they are trainees. Minako became interested in this "trainee"  thing. Her friend explained about the idol industry, debuting, training, and all that in Korea. Minako wanted to try auditioning, and her friend suggested her the entertainments that accepted foreigners like SM, JYP, Pledis etc. Minako wanted to try auditioning because she gradually became interested in being a Kpop idol. Its not a huge transition from her actual dream of becoming a Jpop artist. She always wanted to become an idol/artist, to be able to perform and show people the thing you love most. And since Minako started living in Korea, she became heavily influenced in Kpop. She still likes Jpop, but she now leans more to Kpop. And while she's in Korea, while still having the chance, why not give it a shot at auditioning? Minako called her parents to ask for their permission to audition. They agreed and supported her (yas ganbatte gurl! :D). So Minako auditioned to SM, Pledis, and JYP. Out of all of them, Minako was only accepted in JYP.

After training in JYP for 2 years, Minako left. She didn't feel like she accomplished anything. When Minako was going out after school finished, she got street casted by C&P Entertainment. Minako was reluctant to audition. But she decided to try again. After she got accepted to C&P, Minako promised herself and her parents that she won't give up. So here she is, burning brighter than the sun.

RELATIONSHIPS :　

 

▸ the holy Japanese trinity aka her beloved oneechans —  Hirai Momo (20) Minatozaki Sana (20) Myoui Mina (19) / previously JYP trainees, now Twice members / funny ridicilous hardworking passionate caring protective awkward etc / 7/10

Minako didn't know any Korean back then, only simple ones. Thankfully she found her guardian angels. Minako stuck with the Japanese line when she was in JYP (this was before Sixteen).  They are like her dorky unnies/oneechans, and also her guardian angels. The four of  them struggled together in JYP. One of their most fondest memories is having small adventurous trips to the mini market during practice breaks and ordering ramen / ramyeon. Momo is like Minako's sensei, teaching her and helping her improve her dancing. Mina is like her shy oneechan, and also helps Minako in dancing (and enhancing Minako's flexibility but failing). Sana is Minako's kawaii unnie, and also her fave oneechan to play pranks on. When Minako left JYP, it broke the trio's heart since they're practically glued to each other back then, and the Japanese line treasured their baby dongsaeng very much. They had an emotional goodbye, and Minako promised to keep in touch with them and come to their shows. And until now, she's still in touch with them.

Minako's father is like her twin, goofy and hilarious. I guess this is where Minako got her humorous side from. Andrew is a hardworking man, will do anything for his family. Minako's father is like a warm grizzly bear, always there to listen to Minako's troubles. Wise. Minako's father gives good advices to Minako, telling her to not give up, and if her fire burnt out, then burn them again. Besides having a goofy side, he's also strict. Telling Minako to clean up her bed, wash her own dishes, help her mother mop the floor, and so on. All for Minako so she can be mature and independent. Andrew calls Minako his little burger, since Minako loves to eat hamburgers when she was in America. Minako and her father likes to make hamburgers together in the kitchen, all starting from scratch. Overall, Minako loves her father very much.

▸ Mother — Otsuka Hamuraki (42) / nurse / gentle stern thoughtful kind cheerful loving / 10/10

Minako's mother is a true beauty, and I guess this is where Minako got her looks from. Hamuraki is a gentle mother. Minako loves to cuddle her mother when she was little because she loves how soft her mother seems to be. Despite that, her mother can be quite stern at times. Nagging at her all the way from Japan when Minako lived by herself in Korea, reminding her to eat and rest enough, and not to eat ramyeon / ramen all the time (oooh busted). Minako's mother is also thoughtful. This is where Minako got her subtle caring nature. Kind. Minako's mother is patient in putting up with her daughter's hyperactive antics, chasing her here and there whenever its bath time when Minako was still a child. A loving mother. Overall, Minako loves her mother very much.

TRAINEE LIFE :　

Being a foreigner gives Minako a harder chance in debuting. She has to try harder. In JYP is where she got her basic training and skills. A foreigner, balancing out school and training life. Everyday, mentally and physically drained. Sometimes it gets to the point where Minako almost gave up. After 2 years of being in JYP, she quit, due to thinking that her skills did not improve, and it was useless practicing with no results.

 

Later on, Minako got street casted by C&P Entertainment. Deciding on one last chance, she auditioned. And thank god Minako was accepted. Determined not to quit again, Minako gave it her all. And her slow progress slowly start to improve, no better and more smooth. Minako is ready to work hard and not quitting again.

how does it feel to finally be debuting? : 

 

▸ Ah...shinjirarenai. Its unbelievable. I'm happy to have made it this far, but of course I still hope to improve and develop in many directions. And I'm thankful for everyone who hasn't given up on me. I feel like all these years training has finally payed off. Ah..I'am at loss for words *suddenly became emotional, tears streaming down her cheeks before Minako laughed a little and wiped them away* They say a dream doesn't became reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and hardwork. At first I felt I didn't deserve to debut yet since I lacked in many aspects. I felt that many other trainees are better than I am and they deserve to debut. In fact, every trainee deserves to debut. But here I am. Darn my negative mind. Nevermind. All I'm trying to say is lets give it our best to achieve our dreams. Ganbatte!

 

what is something you want to do with the other members? : 

 

▸ I want to do a lot if things! Hehe...hmm...probably going to amusement parks, going camping, hiking up a mountain....oh and go bungee jumping! And many others...I'll be here all day if I list them all *chuckles*

▸ In a variety show where Minako spoke a wrong word in Korea xD like she wanted to say A but it came out like B. Only the girls of Mayhem understood what she meant and corrected her (like Cheng Xiao. She wanted to say food (bab/babo) but it came out like pabo (fool)
