TRANSLUCENT \\\ AGNAE FOREST /// REBEKAH COTILLARD
Agnae Forest : Rebekah Cotillard
who are you, human?
PERSONALITY TRAITS : ( + ) Protective/Loyal, Funny/Sarcastic, Passionate ( - ) Stubborn, Careless, Curious/Inquisitive ( Neutral/Both ) Adventurous
PERSONALITY :
"Never push a loyal person to the point of not caring [Protective/Loyal" || Bekah is very loyal to those who have earned her trust. Almost loyal to a fault. To her friends and people she deems as "family" she will stand by their side through hell or high water. When everyone else is against them, even if she knows her friends or family are wrong, she'll have their back and protect them if need be. Bekah would risk her life for those she is loyal to. She doesn't trust peoply easily, mind you. But, when she trusts someone, she trust them completely. But, her loyality isn't blind. If someone does something to lose her trust, it's probably the worst thing for that person. She'd not longer trust them in pretty much anything. And it's nearly impossible to regain her trust. Maybe not impossible, but very difficult. She doesn't instantly distrust or trust someone when she first meets them. She gives the person time in hopes so she can see their true character.
"I'm not a difficult person. I'm a constant ing delight [Funny/Sarcastic]" || Sarcasam is practically a second language to Bekah. She's as fluent with it as she is with English. She has a crude sense of humor. Bekah can have a erted mind and she doesn't try to hide it. She doesn't care who's around or who hears her, she'll say whatever crude or erted joke that pops into her head. Oh, you're offended by her off-handed comments? Well, too damn bad. She's not going to alter or pick-and-choose her words just because someone is butthurt about them. Her humor might be a bit dry, but it does brighten her day as well as others. Her sense of humor has gotten her in trouble, especially in Jyeosaeng, but she continues on. People find her funny, and knowing she can put a smile on someone's face or make someone's day better is what keeps Bekah from changing her jokes.
"Anything that gets your blood racing is probably worth doing [Passionate]" || Anything that Bekah does, she puts her entire soul into. Sometimes, she cares too much. Sometimes, she's too emotional. For some, Bekah can be a bit intense. People don't understand how she can always put her heart and soul into everything and anything. Whether it be biology, cooking, the supernatural world, or her friends, she never goes in half-cocked or treats them half-heartdly. She lives by her passions. She lets them consume her and she follows their callings. People worry that she burns too hot and they worry that some day she won't have anything she's passionate for. But, Bekah doesn't believe that. She doesn't believe being passionate is a bad thing. Working towards the things you love is worth it.
"We'll either find a way, or make one [Stubborn]" || When you think of the word stubborn, you usually think of the phrase, "Stubborn as a bull". Well, they're going to have to change it to, "Stubborn as Bekah." Bekah stands by her beliefs. But, she isn't blindly stubborn. She supports her stances on issues with facts and reason. If someone presents contradicting information - credible information - she'll review and revise her stance. She has strong opinions and isn't afraid to voice them. Sometimes, Bekah doesn't know when to back down or quit and this gets Bekah in a bit of trouble. Her stubborness can come off as harsh or insensitive and she doesn't mean for that.
"There is a fine line between fearless and being a fool [Careless]" || Bekah always considered herself fearless. She didn't care about consequences and simply went for it. With things that people deem dangerous, Bekah might charge head in. She confuses being fearless and being careless. Donghae worries that Bekah is actually trying to cut her life in half. As smart as Bekah is, sometimes she simply doesn't think before she does or says something. Most times she's lucky and it all works out for her, but not always.
"The important thing is to never stop questioning [Curious/Inquisitive]" || Bekah has always questioned the world she lives in. This is thanks to both her grann and her mother. She finds things intriguing and interesting and she must know more. Mainly, it includes history and science, but as well as the natural and supernatural world around her. In her free time, Bekah is always trying to learn more, to understand all there is. Sometimes her curiosity gets the best of her and she can't stop until she's figured something out. Her curious nature sometimes put her in seemingly dangerous situations and it appears as if Bekah doesn't care. She will have her answers. Curiosity killed the cat... But satisfaction brought it back.
"Live for the moments you can't put into words [Adventurous]" || Bekah felt that there was always something drawing her to do the things she did. Sometimes it was a sense of wonder, or pride - when she felt she needed to prove herself. Bekah has been able to find adventure in the simplest things; she could make a grocery run with Donghae an adventure. But, there's always been more. Her curiosity leads her to new things. Maybe it's due to her upbringing in New Orleans and her grann's influence, but Bekah was never satisfied with the mundane. She believed there was always more and she was determined to find it.
BACKGROUND : Rebekah grew up in New Orleans and was exposed to a glamorized occult society. A lot of tourists who come to the city expect shruken heads, crystal balls, and tarrot card readings. Even though that is quite present, tourists take it out of context. There is more to the Haitian/French/Spanish/American/Native American city than just occult-related objects. However, this was a large part of Bekah's childhood.
Bekah had, what she thought was, a normal childhood. Her family in New Orleans consisted of her parents and her paternal grandmother while she still had her maternal grandparents in South Korea. Her grandmother, Adelaide, didn't live with the family, but she lived close enough that allowed Bekah to remain close to her. Her grann claims she was clairsentient - she claims she could sense the past, present, or future physical and emotional states of objects. Starting from when she was just about six or so, Bekah's parents could always find her at her grann's shop. Adelaide owned a vodoo shop and she would preform psyhcic readings and seances. Bekah once asked her grann if this was all real and her grandmother told her, of course it is. However, she goes on, what Adelaide actually sees isn't necessarily what her clients want to hear, so she usually alters what she hears to what they want to hear. Adelaide went on to mention that she can feel something around Bekah and that she was a bridge between this world and the next. Bekah didn't necessarily believe this, but her grann went on to mention this often.
Bekah's father owned a renowned restaurant that showcased classic Creole cooking as well as Cajun food and it did so well that her mom could stay at home. Though her father spent long hours at his restaurant, Bekah always had her mother looking out for her. Now, most of Bekah's childhood was, to her, rather uneventful. As a kid, she spent her days at school, then she would make her way to her grann's shop and help out for a couple of hours. From there, she went home and did her homework. Occasionally, she would hang out with other kids. They typically played soccer or watched TV. Bekah, though she enjoyed watching TV, she preferred to do things outside. She always tried to get her friends to go the Marie Laveau's grave to pay respects - Adelaide had taught Bekah never to mock or torment the dead (especially not Marie Laveau who was an avid practioner of vodoo and a well-respected figure in New Orleans). Most kids weren't keen on the idea of going to a grave, so Bekah would settle for visiting the Couturie Forest. But, if she wasn't spending time with other kids, Bekah was with her mother, JiYeon. JiYeon spent her time telling Bekah stories and fostering her love for adventures.
During the summer before her senior year (age 17), Bekah's mom received some shocking and heartbreaking news. JungSook, Bekah's maternal grandmother, called her daughter, JiYeon, and through tears, told her that Michael, JiYeon's father, Bekah's grandfather, had passed away. It was that night, when Bekah's father returned from the restaurant that he and her mother had a long conversation. Bekah had snuck out of bed and hid on the stairs and listened to them. JiYeon insisted that they move to South Korea, not only for her father's funeral, but so JiYeon could take care of her mother. For the past few years, Michael had been taking care of his wife, and now without him, JiYeon worried her mother would forget simple things like eating. Remy, Bekah's father, argued that they couldn't just uproot and move across the globe. Their argument lasted until the wee hours of the morning where it was decided that they would indeed move to South Korea. Thankfully, Remy had saved a lot of money which allowed them to make the trip to South Korea twice. Once, for the funeral, and the second time for the permanent move. Bekah was both excited for the possibility of a new adventure, but she was also sad that she'd be leaving her home and her grann. Adelaide was a strong, independent woman who informed Bekah that she wouldn't be moving with her. New Orleans was her home.
Once Bekah and her family finally settled in her mother's home town, Jyeosaeng, the young girl realized she was at a lost. Everything was so different for her. When she started school, other students laughed at her for her accent and her somewhat butchered Korean. Students began to call her Waegukin instead of her name. Bekah had always been confident, but having near-every kid in her school against her was tough. She never imagined her senior year would be so hectic, chaotic, and stressful. But, there was one person who accepted her and even wanted to be around her. His name was Lee Donghae. The two became fast friends. They told each other everything and even went to the local college together. After college, Donghae and Bekah had been walking down a path and passed the entrance to a forest. Bekah took pause, surprised she had never noticed the forest before in the four years she's lived in Jyeosaeng. Donghae filled her in about the ghost that resided in the forest. He had shivered at the thought as he told her about it and he was shocked that she was excited to hear about the ghosts. Bekah reminded him that she grew up in New Orleans and this made Jyeosaeng feel like home.
The next day, without Donghae, Bekah ventured towards the forest. Without any pause or hesitation, Bekah made her way through the woods. She followed the path until it simply disappeared. She didn't let that stop her or scare her. Bekah never thought ghosts were something to be afraid of. After awhile of walking around, she began to forget the idea of finding the ghost and simply began to enjoy the scenary. She plopped down at the base of a tree and took in her surroundings and smiled. An hour or so must have passed and Bekah casually looked around. As she turned her head to the right, she noticed a man with black hair and a leather jacket. She called out to him, but he didn't answer. He simply looked at her and then walked off to her right. Intrigued by the man, Bekah got up and followed him. Every time she thought she caught up with him, he would be another twenty feet before her. She followed him for awhile until she found herself at the entrance of the forest and the man was nowhere to be seen. It was only then that she realized that man must have been the ghost. If it wasn't for the fact it was getting late, and she promised her dad that she would help at the restaurant, Bekah would have gone back in. She decided she would pay the man a visit tomorrow. And the next day. And the next day. She wanted to find out more about the leather-jacket-wearing ghost.

who do you know?
RELATIONSHIPS :
▸ Father — Remy Cotillard (52) / Owner & Chef of a Cajun/Creole restaurant / Ambitious, passionate, hard-working, loving / 4/10
Remy, ever since Bekah could remember, has been busy. Whether he was in New Orleans or in Jyeosaeng, his restaurant seemed to come first. That's not to say he didn't love his daughter, but he simply was rarely around. When he did have time, Remy taught Bekah all he knew about cooking. In all honesty, Remy doesn't really know his own daughter. Other than cooking, there's nothing for them to bond over.
▸ Mother — JiYeon Cotillard (47) / Stay-at-home mom & Caregiver to JungSook / Loving, nurturing, free-spirited, loyal / 7/10
JiYeon had nurtured Bekah's love of adventures ever since she was young. She would read stories like Lord of the Rings or the Hobbit to her and encouraged her in expanding her knowledge. JiYeon believed not all adventures were out in the world, but were in books as well. JiYeon wanted Bekah to grow up to be her own person. Even though they might not have always seen eye-to-eye, JiYeon encouraged her daughter in whatever she wanted to do.
▸ Paternal Gradmother — Adelaide Cotillard (84) / Psyhcic & Shop Owner / Mysterious, loving, whimsical, insightful / 9/10
Adelaide and Bekah had always been close. Bekah had absolutely loved her grann. Her grann taught her everything about vodoo and ghosts. Though Bekah may not have believed her at first, she loved the whimsical stories her grann would tell her. Whenever Bekah has a problem, she turns first to her grann because she was so insightful and always knew what Bekah needed to hear - even if it wasn't what she wanted to hear.
▸ Maternal Gradmother — JungSook Brown (83) / N/A / strict, respectful, dutiful, generous / 6/10
Having gone her whole childhood without knowing her grandmother, her halmeoni, Bekah didn't know how to act around her. The two grew up in completely different situations. JungSook is trying to make up for lost time, but she tries to treat Bekah as a little girl. Bekah humors her halmeoni and goes along with the act. She knows her halmeoni has been through a lot recently, so she simply tries to keep JungSook happy. And if being happy means Bekah's treated like a child, so be it.
▸ Best Friend — Lee Donghae (21) / Manager at a Record store / Friendly, passionate, protective, gentle, sensitive / 9/10
Donghae has been at Bekah's side for four years now. He always knows how to put a smile on the girl's face and she's always been a shoulder for him when he wants to cry. Unlike others, she never judged him for crying at anything. The two are known as Partners in Crime and are practically conected at the hip. To every other than Bekah, it's obvious Donghae has feelings other than friendship for Bekah. But, he's never acted on it because he fears losing her friendship.
what do you think?
Do you believe in the jyeosaeng ghosts? :
▸ "Yes, I do. I mean, I've always believed in ghosts and spirits. Having grown up in New Orleans, having heard all about Marie Laveau and all her vodoo, you grow up believing that what's considered the "supernatural" is actually normal. And, I mean, I've seen one, so I'm a bit biased."
Do you think the ghosts are creatures to fear? :
▸ "Oh god no! Well... Not inherently, I suppose. I mean, I think ghosts are just upset for the most part. They only stay behind because they have some unfinished business. Sometimes, they're innocent and just want to help others. I know that some aren't so nice and can be very dangerous, but that's not the majority of them."
What does jyeosaeng mean to you? :
▸ "To me, personally? Not much. My mom was born and raised in Jyeosaeng and my grandma is still here, so there's that. But, nothing's called to me yet. Well, actually, something did. Agnae Forest. I think I've finally found something here for me."
if you died today, would you be able to move on from this life? :
▸ "I don't think so. I want to say yes, I want to be able to say I could move on, but, I'm only twenty-one and I haven't done much yet. I've barely gotten into the world or found my place. There's so much more that I haven't experienced yet."

LAST WORDS : Gah! I really enjoyed writing this, and I hope you enjoy reading it. Let me know if you have any questions or whatnot. Also, I left the personality for Hyukjae up to you for the most part, cause I feel you have an idea for him already.
SCENE REQUESTS :
▸ Donghae confessing he has feelings for Bekah and Bekah not knowing how to respond because of Hyukjae.
▸ Hyukjae telling Bekah that she should be with Donghae. He was alive, he deserved the chance that he never got. He tells her that he finally got his chance with Bekah and that was more than he ever thought he'd get. Hyukjae told her he could move on now. Bekah was emotional and told him that she didn't want Donghae, but she wanted him.
▸ Either a happy or tragic ending for Bekah.
▸ Bekah lying to her entire family about the relationship.
▸ Bekah contacting her paternal grandmother about it. She thinks Adelaide is the only one she can turn to about the issue. Adelaide remains her that she's a bridge between their world and the supernatural world.
▸ Bekah's other grandmother, JungSook, knowing who Lee Hyukjae is?
