All I can say is I’ve never met a person like Areum before, and I never thought a person like her would be training in SM."
She’d be classed as one of the loudest people you’ve ever met in your whole entire world. Areum talks like a grandmother with a hearing problem, that’s how loud she is, but it kind of fits perfectly with her outgoing and joyful personality. She’s open and often very talkative, she get’s interested in what’s happening around her, likes to meet new people, loves to just have fun and can keep a conversation going for ages. She has a habit of jumping around a lot, this goes with her joyful personality. She also loves to just laugh all day long, even when times are tough, as she believes it’ll make her mind rewire herself to be just as happy. She is also a very hardworking person, as in the fact that she will work herself sick. She becomes passionate in what she does and works herself to the fullest to achieve the best results. And because of this, as well as her outgoing personality, she became leader. Though she barely has the characteristics, she becomes the mood maker and is always there for the group.

Areum has a good sense of humour and tries to use as often as she can, this also goes the same for optimism especially when she’s practicing and things get really difficult. Mostly, she’s always the one who’d always tell jokes until they’re not funny anymore and when they’re not funny anymore. Her optimism always comes through to her especially when her overly confidence starts to act up and she embarrasses herself. She can get very confident about herself especially about her rapping skills, she loves the way she raps and dance because it’s her own style and it’s just...her, don’t judge, she likes to show off a bit. The confidence start right after she becomes competitive, whenever she see’s someone who’s better than her she’d automatically ask them for a rap battle or if it’s dance, a dance battle.

​ "The one thing that I found about Areum that should change is her carefree attitude."
There is times when Areum gets a little too carefree, this can sometimes be rarely but it’s mostly when she’s angry or tired. When she’s angry she starts to act carefree and won’t worry about learning raps or dance moves and she won’t care too much about deadlines. She’ll be like she’s free of her worries and responsibilities when she’s not. A lot of people wonder how she was able to become the leader of the group, she, herself, has no idea.

To add more onto her outgoing and joyful personality, Areum is a bit cheeky as she loves to play pranks on the younger and older trainee’s and somehow she’d always get away with them. However she’d always get away with it that most people know it her playing the pranks and no one else. Normally she’d play pranks on the people she doesn’t like or the people she thinks will have the best reactions. However Areum is a very loyal girl, she’s faithful to the people around her and will never betray them. This is another reason as to why she was chosen to become the leader. She was literaly voed most out of the group to not leave the group.

"When I was little, I wasn’t the skinniest but I didn’t care at all."
She was a chubby little bubby as food was literally her life when she was young, she wasn't exactly bullied for her weight, and truthfully she wouldn’t let herself get bullied. When they tried to, anything they said would back fire onto them, she’d make them laugh and even laugh at herself. Sometimes she’d get overshadowed by her younger twin who is actually skinnier, but she doesn’t mind, she’s happy seeing her happy. However, despite the fact that she was never bullied, there was thing one guy who didn't have the best time growing up. Lee Taeyong. (Plz don't kill me for mentioning his past, I still love the boy). Our dear Areum had an adorable crush on Taeyong since the two had gone to the same school for quite some time. He was a nice kid, he was good in class and all that, but he didn't hang around the nicest people. What he did to Areum, she would never forgive him (I don't really want to mention it because it makes me cry mentioning his past, just pm if you wanna know). After those events, Areum vowed to become better. She went to the gym often and lost a ton of weight and even took up dacing as a hobby.

"Music...you can now consider it my life."
She first started playing an instrument as it was required in her family; her sister played the piano while she played the cello. She actually became really good and she never really stopped until she heard she got accepted as a trainee in SM entertainment. Areum actually started to get into music when she heard a meaningful/sentimental rap near her fav shop; she found it inspiring and really liked the way he rapped so she wanted to sound like him. She was about 9 at the time. When she did some internet searching she came across Kpop and looked at some of the rappers there, she also got interested in their dancing and started copying their dancing. Areum really liked the thought of being a rapper and soon after her life revolving around food turned into music. Over the time, she got used to hearing a lot of raps, so she decided to make some of her own, who would’ve known she’d be good at composing (only raps tho lol)? Rapping sort of turned out to be the only her sister won’t shadow her out on, it became a part of her life that she’ll never let go and the only way she could express the feelings she has that are bottled up inside her – about her father, being the shadowed sister and how she was treated when she was little.

— Father, Song Minhyun | 45 | Doctor | Areum's father is never really around because of his work, so he never spends actual time with Areum or the rest of his family. He goes overseas a lot, too, to help others. She knows what he's doing is for the better of the world and also for the family financial wise, but she did wish that he was at home more often.

—​ Mother, Song Aemin | 45| Housewife | Areum and her mother are pretty close. They have the normal daughter-mother relationship, however her mother does cherish Haneul more because she is the 'better twin' however, Aemin loves her daughters equally. To Areum it looks like her mother is biased, but she knows that she's just overreating.

—​ Younger Twin Sister, Song Haneul | 21 | Florist/College Student | Areum and Haneul, despite having a slight rivalry with one another, are actually pretty close. They wouldn't like to see the other hurt and would do anything to see the other one happy. The two are quite different, while Areum went on the path of being an idol, Haneul stayed at home and continued her studies. She is studying to be a lawyer.

— Younger Sister, Song Minyoung | 16 | Student | Areum is like the funny aunty to them, she's like Minyoung's favourite sister because of her humouur. She does look up to Areum and would like to become a danccer slash singer slash rapper when she grows up. She's even starting to dress like her.

—​ Younger  Brother, Song Minhyuk | 12 | Student | Minhyun is like Haneul. He's very intelligent and would rather spend his time studying than with any of his sisters. He's isn't 100% close to Areum, but Areum loves to tease and beat him up like she was his older brother.

—​ Close friend, Son Wendy | 22 | Red Velvet Member | Areum, when she first got into SM, was a little bit lonely. The first person she met that day was Wendy, who was just a year older. The two were very different from each other, like 100% difference from one another. But the two became friends as since Wendy was alwys there while the two were in SMrookies together. Over time they would practice together and just have fun with one another like what friends do. And somehow, without them noticing, they became really close friends. They do the normal friendship thing every friends do like make fn of each other and get annoyed with one another.

TRAINEE life

— for 3 years it has been all about proving herself to lee soo man. he wasn't too fond of her attitude and therefore her personality almost over shadowed her talents. he didn't want that, he needed her to show him how she was like when she rapped. so she needed to prove herself. every week when there was evaluations, she would force herself to become better than she thought she was. she would push herself and sometimes even end up sick. wendy wasn't too fond of this, she had been in sm for a while and new that what areum was doing wasn't going to cut it. she needed to show him talent: the exact reason why he accepted her into sm. but the moment she got into sm, she didn't focus on responsibilities or what not, she took everything lightly and didn't care much. and this had to change. she realised it. especially after one evaluation that hit her straight to the heart.

— after a while she slowly changed herself yet always remaining true to herself. she was still the loud person with a hearing problem, but she turned into something more. lee soo man saw this change in areum and how hard she worked to become the better person in such years. he liked the fact that she was able to take in criticism and apply it to herself. this, he thought, was leader material.
