height & weight » 168cm & 60kg

appearance »

With a rounded face and broad shoulders, Hyunmi looks somewhat chubby in comparison to other idols, and with her BMI landing at 21.3 it definitely seems like she ranks with the heavier people in the industry. However, most of Hyunmi's weight comes from her muscle, as she works out quite aggressively. She's well-toned, especially for a female, and even has a light 6-pack which she's not averse to showing off.

style »

People rarely assume Hyunmi is a rapper at first glace. She has a very feminine style - skirts, dresses, and low heels for every outfit. She enjoys looking pretty and favors pastel colors over the dark or bold ones usually associated with rappers. Even when she does wear pants or jeans their matched with a cute blouse and carefully styled hair. Her accessories consist usually of a bracelet and a necklace, and sometimes something in her hair depending on how she's done it that day.

trainee life »  Hyunmi's training was as chill as the rest of her life. Her easy-going nature quickly earned her friends in the project. Her training mostly focused on her dancing and singing, though neither really improved over her short training period. She enjoyed training well enough, but there was always a sense of competition, especially with the other rappers, that she didn't love. She was considering leaving her contract early when she was added to Atalana, and she feels a bit like she's cheating the others out of a possible debut spot since she isn't even sure she wants to be there. But she'll still try her best - it's the least she can do at this point.

PERSONALITY TRAITS »  + Relaxed, Self-aware, Helpful : - Stagnant, Over-anylitical, Depressed

ELABORATION »

Hyunmi is that one girl who seems super cool and relaxed, like she has her whole life together. She likes to joke that she's a "wise old monk" stuck in the body of a 22-year-old when people point this out to her, though she usually follows it with a "nah, but I don't really, I'm just great at hiding it." She's a very calming presence either way, and she's always happy to help out where she can, whether it's rapping techniques or random life questions. Since she's good at recognizing her own limitations and not attempting to do anything she can't, she's also a good person to go to when you're unsure of whether to attempt something or not. She's very Zen in a way, and often her advice consists more of helping others find answers on their own rather than handing them an easy solution.

However, her joking about not really being in control isn't actually a joke. Being aware of limitations may be a good thing, but for Hyunmi it means she's stagnated. She never takes risks, no matter how small, often analyzing every new opportunity so much that she misses the chance to actually take it. While she can help others find solutions, she doesn't even try to find any for herself, confident that she's peaked, and nothing she does differently would change anything - in fact she worries it could make things worse. She has mild depression in this aspect, automatically assuming he problems don't really matter and avoiding trying to think of ways tow work through them, instead giving up before she's even tried to fix them.

FUNFACTS —

Just before she was scouted to BigHit she wrote a rap that is widely speculated to have been about iKon's Bobby. In it, she talks about how it's not okay to insult other's skills and abilities when they've worked hard to accomplish what they have, even if what they have might subjectively be considered worse than what you have. When asked about the rap, she openly admits that Bobby's series of "utterly childish and uncalled for" diss raps heavily inspired the rap, but that it was intended to be a more general conversation rather than pointed at a single person.

She'd be interested in going on UPRS if only so she could annoy the editors with her easy-going attitude and refusal to diss anybody.

She's stated of all the idol rappers currently active she'd be most interested in working with VIXX's Ravi or BTS's Suga. When asked why she says it's because they seem to understand that rapping isn't a competition, but a community, something a lot of other rappers "seem to have lost sight of." "Also I think our rap styles would match well."

A lot of her antis say she's a hypocrite and a hater for admitting to having favorite idol rappers.

Hyunmi sweats really easily, so if she has access to an airconditioner you can bet she'll have it set really cold.

When asked about ideal types, Hyunmi gets a little awkward and just mumbles that she's never really thought about it. In reality she's gay, she knows she's gay, but she's never told a soul about it. One of her biggest fears is people finding out and everyone hating her for it.

She rapped under the moniker "Rayn" while an underground rapper.

After signing with BigHit, Rayn vanished from the underground scene. Because of how soon after the release of her controversial rap about Bobby it was, most people assumed she couldn't take the heat being dished by haters and fled the scene.

She picked her stagename because she thinks Hera is the most powerful of the Greek Godesses

background »

Hyunmi grew up in Seoul. It was just her and her parents in a small apartment on the outskirts of the city. They were never rich, but they never worried about keeping food on the table or a roof over their head either. It was a simple, peaceful existence, and it remained so for all of Hyunmi's childhood and adolsence. She was never a whiz in school, but she did well enough, and she had one best friend from first grade through high school. Life was normal, uneventful, and perfect for Hyunmi, and she didn't want it any other way.

Rapping caught her attention when she was 8, but it wasn't until high school that an aquaintance suggested she come to an underground rap battle with him. She loved the scene and made quite a few aquaintances, including a few rappers who started helping her develop a rap style of her own. She was pretty awkward at first, but warmed up to the idea and her teachers, and soon she felt confident enough to start rapping herself in the battles. She didn't do too well her first two years, but by the time she was graduting high school she'd found rythm and a lyrical angle that worked for her.

For two years she attended university and continued her underground rapping, gaining traction as female rappers were slowly being acknowledged as legitimate rappers and earning a name for herself as one of the few rappers who didn't participate in diss battles, instead promoting community and shutting down haters in her verses. She released a mixtape when she was 19 centered around calling out people who could only write songs insulting other people. The tape was titled "Doves" and was a hit in the underground community. It gave her a reputation as the "peace bringer" among rappers and so when Bobby released his controversial diss raps she felt it was her duty to respond to it.

The rap she ultimately released, titled "When is it enough?", exploded among rap circles. It promoted the idea to stop judging people just because they have different stregths than you do. Being a controversial message she received as much hate as she did praise for the track, but she took it in stride. She hadn't written it to be revolutionary, she'd just been saying what was on her mind. The track caught the attention of BigHit, who thought the unique young rapper would be a good addition to their trainee roster. Hyunmi was uncertain when the rep approached her about an audition, but her friend and mentor Innovator encouraged her to go for it - as an idol she could spread her raps a lot further than in the underground. So she accepted and started training at the begining of 2015.

THE LOVED ONES.

RELATIONSHIPS »

Mother : Oh Kaeun : 45 : Haristylist

Hyunmi has a pretty good relationship with her mother. They don't argue, and Kaeun supports her daughter's endeavour to be an idol. More imporantly she supports the messages Hyunmi gives with her raps.

Father : Kim Ahbin : 46 : Actuary

Ahbin isn't quite as gung-ho about Hyunmi's career choices, but she's an adult and he respects that she can make her own decisions. And he still attends concerts if he can to show he'll always be there for his little girl.

Best Friend : Im Naeun : 22 : Psychology Major, SNU

Naeun and Hyunmi have known each other since they were tiny kids getting into trouble. They grew up together and are inseparable, even if they don't get to see each other very often anymore. They still Kakao with each other whenever possible and Naeun does everything in her limited power to support Hyunmi's dreams.

Mentor : Innovator : ?? : Underground Rapper

Hyunmi and Innovator met in the underground scene, and he gave her pointers to improve her rapping. They don't know each other's names, only their rap monikers, but Hyunmi isn't afraid to call him a good friend and huge inspiration to her. She supported him whole-heartedly when he was on SMTM4 and still is always happy to give him full credit for teaching her how to rap, even though he'll say she did a lot of it on her own.

the interview.

please introduce yourself to the viewers » Annyeong everyone, it's Hera here. Nice to meet you.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE IDEA OF COMPETING AGAINST 20 GIRLS? » Hm, I'm not a big fan of competition in general, but so long as everyone has fun and things are fair I think it will prove to be an interesting experience.

out of the 20 girls competing in atalana, do you think you'll be able to be ranked in the top 7? » Well I like to think my rapping is rather impressive, but this is BigHit after all, I'm not the only strong rapper. So I guess my answer is that we'll have to wait and see.

Is there any trainee in big hit you think will be hard to surpass » Everyone has different strengths and weaknessess. I don't think there's one particular trainee I'm trying to beat, but rather I'd like to learn from those who excel in areas I struggle with and help those who perhaps struggle in rap. (Dani: Way to not actually answer the question Mi.)

please give a message to the viewers watching 'atalana' » Thank you for watching our show, and I sincerely hope you'll stay with us and support us through the show!

and finally, please give a message to the girls competing in atalana » Let's all promise to work hard together and do our very best to learn as much as we can.

the end.

comments/suggestions » So Hyunmi is a revamped app, but I think I fixed everything! I hope you like my overly peaceful child ^^

Hyunmi showing off her abs!

Some of the trainees getting in an argument and Subin trying to calm things down (totally up to you if she actually suceeds or not!)

If you can you should use a performance from Girl Spirit I'm just saying OTL

Maybe do different themes for some of the episodes! Like maybe they have to do a song in another language, or a throwback theme, stuff like that!

password »  ALL OF THEM. My ultimate bias is Bohyung from Spica though, SLAY GODDESS did you see her on Girl Spirit <3 <3 <3
