⟪ NICKNAMES ⟫

→ Cheerleader ⋮ She's always super peppy around people and cameras and is very supportive of those she wants to like her

⟪ BIRTHDAY ⟫ 03 01 1998
⟪ BIRTHPLACE ⟫ Seoul, South Korea
⟪ HOMETOWN ⟫ Seoul, South Korea

⟪ ETHNICITY ⟫ Korean
⟪ NATIONALITY ⟫ South Korean

⟪ LANGUAGE(S) SPOKEN ⟫

→ Korean ⋮ This is her native language
→ English ⋮ She knows several basic phrases as it's a required class as part of her idol training in SM. Her pronounciation is awful though

⟪ FACE-CLAIM ⟫ Jo Hyerung
⟪ BACK UP ⟫ Lee Hyeri
⟪ WEIGHT, HEIGHT ⟫ 45kg, 158cm

⟪ FASHION STYLE ⟫ Simple but showy is the somewhat oxymoronic way of describing Hyeri's method of dress. She never wears anything over dramatic or overly colorful, but instead opts for simpler cuts that complement her body in ways that make her seem less... flat. She likes her outfits to be one usually pastel color except for one shock of something brighter that catches people's eyes. She loves dresses and skirts as well as low-heeled sandals. Her hair is usually left down and styled into a windblown look - she's an image of effortless beauty (despite the actual hours it takes to get it perfect in the morning).

⟪ APPEARANCE ⟫ No one can seem to agree if Hyeri is cute or mature in her looks. Sometimes she's more one than the other, sometimes she's both at once. Controlled partly her outfit and partly her expression, Hyeri's overall appearance is as micromanaged as the rest of her life. Her makeup is kept mostly neutral with some extra flair of color around her eyes (her self-proclaimed prettiest feature), and she did have some mild jaw work done just after she entered SM, to make sure she fully fit their visual standards.

⟪ PERSONALITY ⟫ + Adaptive, Charismatic, Clever ; / Controlled ; - Manipulative, Impersonal, Fake

Hyeri is a natural born leader. There's an air about her that not only demands respect, but also suggests it could be dangerous to not give her full control. Hyeri is a force to be reckoned with no matter the situation, and she'll always find a way to sink her claws into the steering wheel, even if it has to be done indirectly. The thing about Hyeri is that despite her dangerous aura, she presents herself in a very disarming way. She's cheerful, encouraging, and occasionally downright annoying in her peppiness and determination to get along with everyone she meets. She's all compliments and well-placed self-deprivations that make people want to encourage her and help her succeed. Everything about her life is very carefully calculated, from how she says hello to what she wears to sleep. Everything has a purpose, and that purpose is to make sure things are always going exactly the way she wants.

Despite her carefully crafted cheerful exterior Hyeri honestly doesn't like people very much. She can handle a few close friends, but most of the time she prefers to do her own things without interference from others. But since people are an eventuality she's learned how to at least somewhat understand and manipulate them so they do as little damage to her long-term plans as possible. Honestly most people would cite Hyeri as a rather sweet and likeable young woman, completely unaware of how much she probably dislikes having to spend time with them. But personal discomfort isn't going to stop Hyeri from continuing working towards her dreams, so she keeps smiling and gathering aquaintances like a dragon hoards gold. Because she's found that knowing the right people is everything in life, and she's stacking the deck in her favor.

I'd like to say Hyeri has a hidden sweet side but she really doesn't. The ends justify the means, and even though her means are mostly just being overly nice to everyone in order to get things out of them later she's still self-motivated. People are just another way to get what she wants and she has hurt them in past - once she doesn't need someone anymore she often stops talking to them completely, leaving "friends" high and dry without a second thought. Honestly she wouldn't care if someone dropped her apart from being upset over the lost connection for possible future assistance, so she doesn't ever think about other's emotions when using them for her own purposes.

⟪ BACKGROUND ⟫

Based on her personality and movies one might assume Hyeri came from a poor or broken family, but this is not at all the case. She was the second daughter of a middle class family, with one older sister and one older brother, making her the family baby. She wasn't ever horribly spoiled, but she did tend to get away with more than her brother and sister did. She did okay in school, but she discovered an early love of acting after her mother took her to see a musical for her 8th birthday as a special mother-daughter day. School just didn't seem all that important to little Hyeri when she already knew she wanted to act, and you didn't need to know any math to do that. Her parents did enroll her in classes for acting and a few group vocal lessons. Hyeri was very active in the arts at her school, always eagerly auditioning for school shows and going to choir after school so long as she didn't have a test coming up (she had to keep her grades at a certain level to be allowed into the shows).

She started attempting to make it as an actress when she was 15 years old and came across an open audition for a new TV show. She got a callback but ultimately lost out to an older teen who was better known. This trend continued, and Hyeri was frustrated that she couldn't seem to find anyone to be her connection in the acting world. And then one day, while getting takeout sushi after school, she saw a billboard of Yoona from SNSD and an idea struck her. If she couldn't break into the acting world directly, then maybe she could come in from a different angle. So she started researching how to get an audition for a major idol company, with an emphasis on SM entertainment due to them having several idols in the acting world. It only took a week to put together her resume and sent it in along with a video of her singing. She was called in for a private audition and about a week after she received word that she'd begin her training immediately.

⟪ TRIVIA ⟫

→ At least 80% of her wardrobe is white
→ Her stage name "Hera" comes from the fact she likes to be in control of things, hence 'queen of the gods'. However, she'd never say this in an interview, instead noting that Hera's name is close to her real one and that she likes Greek Mythology so "everything just worked out!"

→ She's never owned a pet due to her brother being allergic to fur, but she very specifically wants a female Bengal-Ragdoll cross who she'd name Aphrodite. Her second cat she would get two years later - a white female toyger she'd name Artemis. She talks a lot about her imaginary cats if you get her started
→ While she doesn't straight-up hate dogs she'd rather not touch them and their multitude of germs thanks
→ She is always 100% up for anything involving acting in some form. Being an actress is still her ultimate goal and so any chance to show off what she sees as her "true talents" is one she jumps at
→ She's often thought to be the "Dorm mother" since she cleans up after everyone else. However she only does this because she'd go nuts if the dorms stayed dity for too long
→ She's not really big on watching movies which is odd considering her acting interests. She far prefers TV shows, saying that since they have more time to develop multiple plot points they're just more compeling to her
→ She never had "formal" singing lessons prior to SM, instead attending choir and group lessons
→ There wasn't really a point of Hyeri's life that "made" her who she is. She's always been generally emotionless and lacking sentimentality. The only thing that could have made her as extreme as she is is simply the fact no one ever tried to teach her that caring for people is important

⟪ LIKES ⟫

→ Getting her way
→ Cats (She is very much a cat person)
→ When things are organized - she gets very twitchy if a room is dirty or messy
→ Working by herself - she's good at group projects sure, but she still hates them
→ Mythology (Not just Greek, but all Myths are interesting to her. Greek just happens to be her favorite)

⟪ DISLIKES ⟫

→ Crowds - she's not necessarily claustrophobic but she does get uncomfortable when her personal bubble is invaded
→ Ballads, though she sings them a lot since they show of vocal prowress. She finds them boring, and also since her singing isn't that amazing slower songs are a lot harder on her voice
→ Anything involving math or science makes her brain hurt
→ Really really peppy people. Yes she knows she acts like them, she's well aware of how annoying she can be
→ Rapping. It was required at SM but she always did the bare minimum and is bad even by SM standards because of it

⟪ HABITS ⟫

→ Smiling cutely whenever she sees a camera
→ Leaning on people nearby. She doesn't like skinship but physical contanct generally makes people like you more
→ Touching her hair periodically to check if it's still styled

⟪ HOBBIES ⟫

→ "Window shopping" on online makeup sites
→ Doodling cats on the side of basically any sheets of paper than end up in her posession

⟪ TRAINEE HISTORY ⟫

Hyeri wouldn't say training was easy, but with her looks and her skills she managed to do quite well. Dancing was never something that came easy and she'll easily say it was the hardest part of her training, but overall she quite enjoyed the experience. She endeared herself to any and all staff members she could get her hands on and made sure she was noticed. She was a member of SRG14 but much to her frustration wasn't ultimately chosen for Red Velvet. Her 'friends' on the staff told her it was because of her short training period, which she grudgingly accepted. Since she had signed a three year contract she continued training, making sure she was noticed and keeping herself as close to the top of her classes as she could (dancing was pretty much a lost cause but she did well in singing and absolutely nailed her variety and acting classes). When she was told she had been selected to be a part of the surival show "Fighting!" she wasn't surprised, but she was pleased her work was finally starting to pay off.

⟪ You didn't audition for this show. Rather, you were handpicked by your CEO and producers. Why do you think that is? ⟫ Well I know I'm not the most talented person here, but I think my cheerful personality and determination are why they chose me! That and of course the fact I pushed all the right buttons to get myself noticed.

⟪ You are one of only ten contestants. Do you think the viewers will like you? And why? ⟫ I like to think of myself as a pretty likeable person, yeah! I've always made friends pretty easily, so hopefully that will translate onto the screen too! Of course they'll like me, I make it impossible not to.

⟪ What do you wish to learn while participating in this show? It will last three months, so you're bound to get something out of it even if you don't win. ⟫ Well I'd love to improve my skills for sure, I really hope some of the other contestants will help me out! And really just learning what it's like to be on camera and getting to interact with fans - I'm sure this is going to be a lot of fun! Plus building a fanbase before I debut is always a positive.

⟪ If you end up winning, will you attempt to debut solo or team up with the other four of your gender to debut as a group? ⟫ Oh gosh I hadn't even thought about if I'd won. I'm not really sure, I mean if the others would want to join a group with me I'd definitely be up for it! We're going to be going through a lot together, it seems appropriate to debut together! Ugh, I'd rather be alone but logically the best way to do this is debuting with the other girls and then getting a solo debut later down the line. And of course the ultimate goal is to ultimately ditch this machine entirely and become and actress, but you don't need to know that.

⟪ Go ahead and say something to the viewers! ⟫ Hello everyone! I really hope you'll enjoy this show and will root for everyone! Hwaiting! Vote for me es.

⟪ ANY LAST COMMENT ⟫ So the italicized stuff in the interview are her internal thoughts to show how she actually feels about everything!

For critisisms about her singing this should be super useful. Honestly I didn't intend for Hyeri to be that vocally skilled in comparison to the other contestants so hopefully this will be good ^^ Also hopefully it still counts under one main two subs even though the "main" isn't super strong?

⟪ PASSWORD ⟫ Not sure if it ha to be a live performance (just in case)? But this is one of the best Gayoon solos out there ^^
