PLEASE STOP USING RELIGIONS AS EXCUSES (OR SCAPEGOATS)

This is not the first time I’ve said this, and I repeated the same for this…

I don’t care what religion you believe in, hell, you can even believe in Scientology for all I care, as long as you don’t force-feed me or preach, and if your religion somehow, one way or another, obliges you to hate and discriminate on a particular group of people, it’s when I have a problem with it. I’m sorry, but if your religion is like this, then your religion is no different than the KKK, the BNP, the UKIP, or any other neo-Nazis or white supremacist groups, because you would all be very similar in that there is always at least one certain group of people that’s your target of hatred, disgust, prejudice and discrimination.

Admittedly, I was a Christian when I was much younger, when I was in nursery and junior school, I did the whole going to church on Sunday and praying thing, but I became an atheist when I got to senior school, starting from Year 7, because I was fed enough BS by then, and most of the time, it was the same stuff being said, e.g. it’s God testing you, it’s so that God can you whatever, blah blah blah. I was told as a kid that God doesn’t like to see his ‘children’ suffer, and then I wondered what about the people in third-world countries, why are they suffering? I always get told the same thing, “It’s so that you know there are suffering in the world.” Hold on a sec, how does that even make sense? So, you are telling me that the almighty God, who supposedly does not like to see anyone suffer, frankly couldn’t care any less about those in the third-world countries, either that, he used those people as ‘sacrifices/scapegoats’ to show the world an example?! I’m sorry, if the almighty God really cared about his ‘children’ not suffering, then, he’d have something a long time ago!

Second, the one thing that I was totally sick of hearing all the time was that the same old “God is testing you”, I especially think it’s very twisted when it comes to those who are terminally ill, how can you still say that God is testing them? I dare ask, what is God testing them for? Whether they live or die? Not sorry to say, if this is the God that you Catholics/Christians believe in, then, he is one very cruel and twisted God. I heard the same crap from my former R.E. teacher (who was well-known in the entire school to be an incredibly devout Christian), when I received news my best friend hundreds of miles away in Hong Kong died of leukemia, I was crying, and in her incredibly poor attempt to comfort me, she actually said, God was testing my friend, and now God is testing me…So what? God was testing to see if my friend lives? She failed the test because she died? God was testing me for what? To see me unhappy, to see me grieve, and how long for? Really?! And, I was again, told the same BS when my late grandfather was terminally ill…

Those aside, I’ve never thought about how religion is often used as an excuse or scapegoat, when I quitted being a Christian at the time. However, I formed my opinion, when I have had several encounters with a number of so-called ‘Christians’ and ‘Catholics’, who either insist on themselves being decent and good people, just because they are Christians or Catholics, or they would use their religion as an excuse to hate and discriminate against the LGBT community.

First of all, with the former, it’s by far, the weakest and stupidest reasoning and justification, it’s not even logical. Just because you are ‘Catholics’ or ‘Christians’, it does not mean that you are the superior or the better people. What’s the definition of a Catholic? What’s the definition of a Christian? It only means that you have a religious belief for an almighty God and Jesus Christ, and just because it entails God and Jesus Christ, it doesn’t necessarily dictate how an individual Christian or Catholic to be a good, decent people. Care to explain, the well-documented number of e priests in the church, and the fact why did those in charge help covering it all up? If they are good, decent people in your dictionary, I don’t know what are.

Second of all, I totally echo J.K. Rowling’s views. Allow me to clarify, I have friends who are either Catholics or Christians, but they are in no way, the bigoted religious idiots that I’ve encountered or the ones who openly criticize and insult the LGBT community, in fact, they absolutely refuse to be linked to those idiots. This being said, it’s not the religion that’s telling you to hate and discriminate against the LGBT community, nor do I ever recall Christianity telling me to be a homophobic when I was a kid, not even in the ten commandments, does the phrase, “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor” not mean anything?

If you are exactly one of those bigots like a certain *cough* Choi Siwon, let’s me clarify once and for all, STOP USING YOUR RELIGION AS AN EXCUSE OR A SCAPEGOAT for your own unjustified hatred, disgust and discrimination!! It’s not the religion that’s teaching you or telling you to hate, it’s your own twisted/screwed-up mentality, combined with your screwed-up/twisted interpretation of the holy scriptures, that seem to justify your hatred and discriminatory views of the LGBT community. Nonetheless, even if the religion happened to be very specific about you hating someone, don’t you have a mind of your own? Or are you just a sheep who is part of the herd, without a conscious mind of your own, plainly following whatever commands given to you?

I was actually once asked by one such bigot, would I be friends with those who are from the LGBT community. My response was this, “Yes, I am not ashamed to say this, but yes, I have friends who are indeed from the LGBT community, and they are the very best friends I can ever ask for, they were always there for me when I needed supports, and I dare say, they are probably way more trustworthy than people like you.” Not to mention, there are certain figures from the LGBT community that I really love, including the incredibly hilarious and funny Graham Norton and Alan Carr, and there are certain those that I absolutely look up to, and admire, some of you would know from reading my updates, that there is this really gutsy H.K. LGBT singer that I really admire, and in fact, I was incredibly star-struck when I finally got to meet her at the H.K. Book Fair.

Also, one final thing, some of those bigots are incredibly hypocritical. Kind suggestion: Calvin Klein, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs don’t suit you; actually, it’s vice versa, you don’t suit wearing Klein, McQueen or MJ.

Anyway, whatever still, I’m proud of Tom Daley and what he has achieved, and he is certainly well-matched with the talented Dustin Lance Black!
