Uncontrollably Fond First Impressions

Hey. It's 48hourdaisies, coming to you with a korean drama review. Even though I haven't even finished the drama yet. Typical. As the title obviously states these are going to be my own opinions on the uber hyped up Uncontrollably Fond (KBS2).

Warning: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and this is mine. If you don't like it, cool. But don't be an about it. It just makes you look bad.

Overall Review: Maybe it was because this drama was heavily advertised to become the next Descendants of the Sun or maybe I just really wanted a drama that was worthwhile after being bored of everything else, either way it was totally a let down. I tried to like it, I really did. Honestly, it's not even that bad. It just isn't worth your time and my time, from what I've seen. The plot line is oh so cliche and very very common, super huge star falls in love with lowly, poor girl blah blah blah, the usual. And even despite the fact that I absolutely hate these tropes, I was like fine. I'll give it a try. At the very least, I'll be able to see Kim Woo Bin's abs.

Seriously though, why is the main character so awfully flat? I have nothing against Suzy, I actually like her. Yes, her acting is controversial and such, although I didn't really have a huge problem with it. I also didn't have a problem with Kim Hyun Joong's acting in Boys over Flowers even though javabeans made a ton of digs at it. I don't think I recognize good acting very well. Nevertheless, even if her acting was top notch, her character would still be flat and boring as cardboard. The only exciting thing about No Eul is that she whines and wails every episode. And that gets old fast. At least fall in love with someone who has dimension, Shin Joon Young.

As for Joonyoung's character, well. There's not a huge, mouth gaping difference. He has more depth than No Eul, but I've experienced these characters so many times before, I don't even blink. Rough childhood, made it to become a big star and is arrogant as . NEXT.

Also, why is it so necessary for every main lead in a drama to have one of their parents die? If that's a measly trick to try and add development and change to a character, at least do it well. There was little to no change in No Eul's behavior after her father died. She just became money hungry and moody. And she was moody before too.

The only person who kept me on the show was Choi Ji Tae. It's been quite a while since I saw a male chaebol dress up as a poverty stricken commoner for no other reason then to befriend No Eul and her brother. It's not like he's Shin Joon Young either, where he would have millions of fangirls because he doesn't. He's so bent on keeping his real self separate from No Eul and we don't even have a hint as to why thus far. And the fact that he's the most aware character in this whole show, he knows about Joon Young's real identity as his half brother, he knows Joon Young likes who he likes, and he knows all that but stays the exact same. He does nothing. I can't decipher whether he likes keeping it normal or he's afraid of destroying his family, his sister's infatuation with her half brother. He's a complete mystery and the drama hasn't clued us in on the reasons behind his actions. What confuses me the most is his behavior towards Jeong Eun. He tells his father that he doesn't want to marry her, gets the blessing, then goes ahead and romances her without any feeling. Add in the classic water throw to his face and we've got another model character. The ever so timeless mean girl who lets jealousy and insecurities get the best of her. Along with the fact that she killed a man and had to have her daddy repair all the damage.

Does anyone understand me now? This is something we've already seen before, dozens and dozens of times. There's nothing special or unique about it and if one character is the only reason why I'm bothering to watch the production, then I might as well just not watch it at all.

Again. Just me.

So that's it. That's the reason(s) why I'm not continuing this drama anymore. I hope you didn't get too offended.

Who am I kidding, I don't even know what hope is.

Until next time,

48hourdaisies.
