Controversy surrounding GOT7 right now...

In light of the recent controversy that is absolutely blowing up over Twitter and Instagram, I've decided to weigh in and give my two cents on the whole situation:

For those of you who are unaware of what happened I'll give a brief description about it too.

1. BamBam. He was recorded in a SnapChat video posted by one of Mark's friends saying the n-word. You can clearly hear him say "Mah nigga!" in the video after asking Mark's guy friends what the word means. They tell him "it's like bro." So first of all, since this happened BamBam has been sent a large amount of hate. He's been asked to leave the group by a lot of netizens, as well as sent death threats and things like that. I don't agree that what he did is inexcusable, it was clearly offensive to a lot of his African-American fans and a lot of international fans who are aware of what the word actually means. As for BamBam though, I don't think he deserve the catastrophic backlash he is receiving. He's a young man and most likely doesn't know any better (I haaaate when people defend idols using this excuse because it's honestly a cop out most of the time) but in this case I actually think BamBam was a little clueless to the weight that his words had. He is heard asking what it means first before using it, after being given the O.K from Mark's Cali friends - they clearly use the word a lot in a very non-chalant way, so that tells you the kind of people they are. BamBam says it in what he thinks is a private event (thanks again Mark's friends) and this is the result. I am totally with BamBam, I feel for him and hope that this doesn't affect him too badly. I think an apology via Twitter/Insta is more than enough, I don't think GOT7 needs to make an offical apology on his behalf. It wasn't that big of a deal to me, imo.  It is worth noting, though, that BamBam is a rapper. And he's listed his many musical influences in the past like Kendrick Lamar, ASAP Rocky, etc. These are two artists who use the n-word quite a bit. Also, BamBam has recently been obssessed with dabbing, a dance originating from black culture. His clothing, his musical interests, fashion, everything all draws heavily from black American culture. And BamBam himself speaks a small and decent amount of English, so in saying that, I'm wondering just how unaware he actually was about the word. There's no way he hadn't heard it before, that's for sure.

2. Mark's tattoo. I guess Mark got a cross tattooed onto his calf. It's pretty clear that it's a tattoo in all of the pictures. He must've gotten it in America while they were there. Honestly I hate that this is even a ~controversy~ because it's so minor and not even a bad thing. I undetstand that it's illegal in Korea to get tattoos, etc. But with the growing amount of tattoo shops in Korea, and the amount of idols who already do have tattoos, I don't see a problem WHATSOEVER with Mark getting a tattoo in America, where he is of legal age to do so. I really, really hope that when Mark returns to Korea he isn't given a lot of heck for it. He is precious and doesn't deserve that. I assume they will cover the tattoo in broadcasts and such like they do with other idols, but I'm hoping that that is the extent of their "dealing" with that. He didn't do anything wrong at all in my eyes.

3. Yugyeom being drunk. So in the string of videos posted to Snapchat by Mark's friend Wendy, one of them shows a very obviously drunk Yugyeom. I mean, if you've had a drink before or been drunk in your life you can tell right off the bat that Yugyeom is absolutely trashed in the video. His eyes are like glazed back in his head and he's very out of it. This makes me giggle a little and doesn't get me upset or anything. He's 19! He's allowed to legally drink in Korea. He's at a private event that is held for his group where it's not supposed to be made public, where he is allowed to cut loose etc. Both of Mark's parents were at the party, and in California it is legal for him to drink as long as it's at a private function and there's supervisors around that are sober, which there were. So I really don't get all of the hate towards Yugyeom. I got drunk for the first time when I was like 16. In North America it's not a big deal at all for someone his age to be having fun. It's not like the boy is an alcoholic and will be messing up future performances because he's drunk. People are making too big a deal out of that one. - - - Also there was a lot of hate on Yugyeom because in the video he's sitting down and leaned forward and is shirtless, and he's got a little bit of a stomach, just like everyone gets when they sit down, and people online are basically ripping this nineteen year old boy down for not having rock hard abs of steel. I can't imagine the self-consciousness that Yugyeom is feeling right now. Poor kid is probably devastated that he's being labelled as an irresponsible, fat drunk by a lot of so called "fans." Body shaming in any form is completely inappropriate especially against a person like Yugyeom who is healthy and completely a sweetheart. That pissed me off.

4. Mark's friends. So apparently Mark's friends from LA were acting really inappropriate at the concert, and then at the pool party they were all Snapchatting the events and made their Snapchat stories public for everyone to see. GOT7 fans are attacking Mark right now if you go and check his Instagram out. They are basically telling Mark that he needs to get new friends and that his friends are basically ruining or sabatoging GOT7 because of the BamBam/Yugyeom thing as well as exposing Mark's tattoo and then also recording it all and making it public knowing that Mark is a celebrity and is in the public eye a lot. I am torn on this issue because on the one hand I can see why the friends Snapchatted everything, in North America it's not a weird thing to go to a party (especially with someone you haven't seen in a very long time) and want videos and pictures of the party to remember for later. I would probably be guilty of that too, just because it seems very harmless at the time - not to mention none of the members were opposed to being in videos or pictures and even posed and danced around in the videos. I do however, think that they should've behaved a lot better. They know GOT7 is a popular group with a large international following. They should have taken this into account and saved the pictures and videos for their own personal eyes and not anyone elses'. I do think that is not okay. They also told BamBam what he was saying was fine and akin to "bro," which obviously was wrong. So yeah, they should've acted a little better. (I can't be completely upset at them because they gave me shirtless Mark - ugh did you see his chest? Mark is so hot. And don't even get me started on Jackson. There's a Snap of him giving a kissy face and he's like barefaced and has a little bit of stubble and he's just giving me rugged daddy vibes and asfdsfbsd. If you know me you know I love me some daddy wang.)

All in all, I think it's unforunate that GOT7s American leg ended on such a sour note. I hope this doesn't have too big an impact on the popularity or the image of GOT7 once they're back in Korea and that it eventually blows over. I just hope BamBam addresses this sooner rather than later because time is ticking and it will only get worse the longer he leaves it up in the air. That's my two cents.

EDIT***

Also apparently Mark's friends were incredibly drunk at the concert and were like lifting their shirts up and being loud and messy and obnoxious and proceeded to throw water and glowsticks at other fans. That's so embarrassing for Mark, ugh. Cringe.

I'm African American and I say that BamBam shouldn't be getting all this hate for a word that he didn't know the context of. If he didn't know, he didn't know and that's fine be me. Now if he keeps using the word, that's when it will become a problem not so much by me but maybe for others. I'm so use to so many races saying that it honestly doesn't phase me anymore. Am I giving him permission to say it? No, I'm just saying it's ok because he didn't know. I'm pretty sure he heard it from them and some rap songs and thought it was ok, so I give him the benefit of the doubt. I still got love for my baby boy. Now my boo Mark...that is some bull right there. It's his body let him do what he wants. He got like one tattoo. People need to calm the f down like for real. Now Yuggie...let him be. He seemed like he was having fun so let him have fun. They probably weren't even thinking about the whole age thing so whatever. He was having fun so let him be. I'm over people thinking that these idols aren't human like wtf man.

1. I agree that since Bambam didn't know what the word means, the fault lies with Mark's friends ti my opinion. 2. There ARE many kpop idols that have tattoos mostly the older ones but it looks cool when it's not overdone. I'll go check Mark's tattoo later! 3. I'm not thin or fat and my stomach is usually flat, but I still get that little bit when I sit down and I think it's natural when you don't have a six-pack. Still not all kpop idols have to have a six-pack! Onew doesn't have it either but I still love him so much for his smile and voice ^^ 4. Mark's friends should have taken Got7 popularity into consideration and kept the photos and videos private, but since it's a natural situation for a party, I don't think it's Mark's fault. Unfortunately, like Taylor says "haters gonna hate hate hate" no matter what. I can't understand the attacks whenever a kpop idol does the slightest thing that people don't agree with. Nobody would actually care if they weren't famous. This is the second time I can't stay quiet after the Kaistal commosion!

Omg thank you !!!! I've been seeing Bambam needs to die or leave the group everywhere saying hes racist and that Yugyeom is a fat alcoholic. Like I understand the Bambam thing it was wrong to say but it was very wrong of them to say it mean "bro" when they know it doesn't. That word is literally everywhere in the hip-hop industry so I know Bambam has heard it people need to stop thinking he's an angel from above. Now do I think he REALLY understood it? No since he had to ask the meaning. An apology is all is needed honestly but I feel he's gonna wait til they discuss it with jyp you know the idols and their management. Now for Yugyeom I feel so bad for him like he NEVER shows his body and the time he does he's getting called fat when he's really not. If he has a pug okay? Doesn't mean he's fat and even if he is people should still love him cause it doesn't xhange who he is. The drinking like bro I got drunk at 15 at home with my family. That party was suppose to be a private party so they could relax and chill before going back to work. Now Marks tattoo honestly like you said it shouldn't even be a issue, I like it and it doesn't change him one bit. Now his friends I've heard they been causing rukus since the concert (I've only heard and seen things on IG not honestly sure if it's true) but they were throwing water bottles and light sticks at the fans and being disrespectful like really? You don't show support like that to your friend cause it'll ruin their image. But I don't blame them for all the Snapchat and pics I'll be the same way if I haven't seen my friends in months or maybe years. I just have mix feelings but I don't hate his friends like some people are ranting about. Like you should see their comment section on IG the is really crazy.

And I think BamBam can learn from his mistake. Everyone needs to learn from mistakes to grow up.

For Mark's tatoo, it's completely ok in my opinion (although I hoped it was not real before cuz I love to see his 100% white skin). It's really normal that a celebrity has tatoos (in Korea, among those super famous ones, many has tatoos).

About BamBam and Yugyeom, thanks to Mark's friends... And I do not see any extreme point here to push BamBam out. Must consider the point that he is not American and he lives all his life in Asia and he spent all his time for his career (not for reseaching and learning all those languages). Even for those who go to US for study or work, they have to be there for a long enough period to learn these languages. And Yugyeom is old enough for alcohol and again, it was a private party, it was a family party!

For those people who hate Mark because of his choice of friends, he was with some of them since he was 9 years old (2002). How can a 9 year old kid knows who should he be with and who should he not? And for a more than ten year friendship, how could he give it up easily? (Just put yourself in his shoes to see things) And people grow up in different circumstances and conditions and environment. We are lucky to see how our Mark grows up as a good man with a beautiful heart, no matter how bad his friends are.

Im just disappointed but im still love them. People make mistakes and some people have their own opinions. #lovegot7forever

I was very sad and torn. Honestly i am kinda disgusted and disappointed. I don't even know what to feel about them anymore.

About bambam saying the N word, he should've known better. Isn't he always interested in the american culture? So why didn't he know that the N word is not a very nice word and will offend some people? I mean, it's okay if he really didn't know but he really needs to apologize now, quick, because it's a really sensitive word to say now with all the things happening to black people in america. It doesn't have to be related but somehow it did and it wasn't pretty at all. I love him and i don't want him to get bashed because he was ignorant about something. I don't blame him entirely if he really didn't know.

As for yugyeom, well, we don't really have any evidence against him drinking so i don't want to blame him for anything. But it kinda hurts if its true, IF it is true. I always looked up to him and i'm not saying drinking is so bad because it's not healthy and all because it is, but we all know they have minors as fans and what a way to be an idol? I'm sure some kids would think that its cool to drink alcohol in daylight and hang out with friends just because yugyeom and got7 do. I know in korea, yugyeom is legal to drink but apparently in america he's still 19 and correct me if i'm wrong, it's illegal to drink when you're 19 and he's obviously in america so... unless he didn't care about it and think he's old enough and the people surrounding him (mark's friends, got7) didn't stop him, that's another story. I'm just disappointed. I don't drink because i don't like it and as petty as i sound, i don't want them to drink too. It's okay though, it's their lives and choices. I really don't want them to not enjoy their trip though.

As for mark, well, it's not ILLEGAL to have tattoos in america nor in korea. So for this one, i dont really understand. Im not mad about mark getting a tattoo. ITS UGLY THO. My opinion tho.

Okay so, I do feel like BamBam are trying a little too hard in English to match with his hyungs and also following nowadays trend and being swag. He's also trying so hard to learn English which is a good thing and I appreciate him for doing that because it brings benefit for us ifans to communicate further with him. Just had a thought that Mark's friends are s, they don't stop BamBam from say the n-word when they knew that it will bring problem EVEN when BB wasn't an idol. Poor that little thing to reveive backlash when he's probably have no idea on the sensitivity of the n-word itself.

And regarding Mark's tattoo; they hate on Mark when they publicly praises those like Jay Park, Bobby, B.I and other artistes for having so many tattoos just because he has a good kid vibe. Thought that it's not only fans that are sending him hateful comments but also fake fans who constantly jumped on the hate bandwagon. I kinda feel pity for those judgemental haters and also so-called fans for Yugyeom's belly. It's so funny they actually hate on everything this boy do and saying bad things to bring him down. He was like 128 lbs and 6' tall and he's being called out for his flexed tummy when I believe everybody have it when they sit down. I was like 124 lbs before I started dieting and I'm just 5'2 so what's that make me if he's waaaaay taller than me and weigh 4 lbs more than me? Sack of potatoes?

All in all, they didn't really deserve the amount of hate they're received now. Despite BB's mistake, though he may or may not aware of the risk he's taking when he's saying those word, they're all just a normal person enjoying a party like we do. Hope things settle down and people would realise how silly they sounded right now.

... Holy crap. I only knew about the one where Yugyeom was drunk !!
I think.. Idk, if anything, blame Mark's friends for not telling Bam what it even meant..
But realistically, him even saying that.. Who didn't see that coming? Just saying.
Also it's not Mark's fault his friends are ty.
And don't even get me started about Tattoos.
GD has like 80 and Bang has a whole freaking chest piece and like half a sleeve.
People are forgetting that idols are also human????
My god. Like ease up a little.

Wow I rlly feel bad for them... I do think Mark's friends were in the wrong partially cause they told bambam the wrong meaning and obviously should not snapchat stuff that was meant to be private. Also how is the tattoo a big deal. I mean there are many idol rappers who have tattoos and on broadcasts they usually cover it up if not they would censor it esp for shows that are PG-15 or smthng. There is also another problem with another grp whereby "fans" are told to stop taking pics/vids in a show by the idols themsleves but they didnt stop and the grp was given a warning and got scolded if I am not wrong and i think they removed some points frm the music show that is under the same broadcasting station. They also cut the air time for that show.

Back to the point these "fans" shouldnt be called fans, they do stuff that hurt their own idols 1 way or another and when they look back esp if and when they disband or lose members they will be the ones feeling guilty and sad.
