like a mannequin

faceclaim : Laboum's ZN
height & weight : 168cm and 54kg
bloodtype : A
appearance : Ella has a sort of odd face. With extremely defined cheekbones, sharp eyes, and a button nose, it almost looks like she's the result of a botched PS job, but she's never been under the knife - that's just how her face is. She does like dying her hair and is usually blonde if she doesn't have to have it done different for a comeback. She has no piercings or any other sort of body modifications - she's way too scared of needles to do that willingly.
style : When someone looks at how Ella dresses, they're not surprised to find out she's from New York. Her preferred wardrobe consists of leggings with black ankle boots, a simple single-tone dress accesorized with a belt, various necklaces, and more often than not her signature leather jacket. She only owns the one jacket since leather is expensive, but it's real and you better not touch it if you value your life.

why am i like this?

traits : + Organized, Decisive, Dependable : - Bossy, Controlling, Impatient
personality :
Ella is someone who likes things to be neat and organized, whether it's a room or her life. She always has a plan, and knows exactly what she wants to get done and how she plans to accomplish it. If there's one thing people can say about Ella, it's that she really does have her together. And as such, she's comfortable with calling the shots and making decisions about basically everything. She doesn't shy away from conflict or uncertainty, instead taking it on headfirst. You can always count on Ella to get things done, and to get them done pretty well too. She isn't a perfectionist, but she'll still do her best with every task or challenge she takes on.

Ella can get a little (a lot) controlling of her environment if things aren't going according to her plans. She can almost be like a dictator at times, and she's not afraid to make people cry to get them to fall in line and do what they're supposed to. She is very bossy, and doesn't react well if people try to ask her to stop. She's not against other people leading, but if she thinks she could do better (which she usually does) she'll step in and do things herself. She's highly impatient in this way as she doesn't want anything to take any longer than it has to, hence why she'll take over, even when she's been clearly told she's not in charge - if she'd be better at it anyway, what's the point of staying in the back?

background :
Ella was born in the heart of the Big Apple. She never thought of her family as rich, but both her parents had inherited well hence why they could afford to live in New York. Ella's little sister Hailey was born a few years later, and that completed the little family. Ella attended a private school in the downtown area (as is common for city dwellers) that had a very strong arts and music program. Ella was required to join at least one arts-focused elective starting in middle school, so she randomly picked choir, as she'd always enjoyed singing recreationally. She soon found she enjoyed it a lot more than that and joined a community choir as well. Her parents offered her lessons, but with two choirs on top of school and weekend tennis lessons with her mother she didn't have time, and she didn't think she needed them anyway - she got plenty of practice as it was.

When she was 16 years old she was approached after one of her choir concerts by a scout from SM Entertainment. He suggested she try attending SM's international auditions, taking place that weekend. She was a little confused about what he was talking about, but when she looked up SM and realized she could sing professionally if she passed, she begged her parents until the agreed to let her try. She passed the auditions, but it took two months to work things out and find a place for her in the dorms. In that time she began studying Korean and learning what she could about the SM artists. Then she was off to Korea.

trivia :
— She is, in fact, a 4.5 ranked tennis player
— For all her sassy rudeness on shows, Ella is extremely politically correct, so a lot of I-Fans really like her
— She's honestly not exactly trying to hide her uality from anyone, people just don't assume she's gay because it's Korea
— She doesn't have a favorite color. However, he least favorite color is orange. No one knows why.
— She's been on birth control since she was 15, due to having extremely painful cramps. If for whatever reason she ever has to go through a period she's even more unbearable than she usually is

— She doesn't like humor that mocks people, and especially during early debut she'd get in MC's faces if they were being invasive or degrading
— She hates skinship, and she will duck away from any attempted contact.
— As part of the 'unnie line' she's actually super protective of the youngest members ('98-'00) and is especially ready to fight any MCs who make them uncomfortable
— When asked about ideal types, she says she likes firecrakers, and then laughs to herself.

you're too harsh

family :
— Mother | Elizabeth Lee | 47 | Tennis Instructor | Ella and her mother get along well enough. They have dissagreements occasionally over little things like Ella forgetting to clean her room before she leaves or not calling when she was supposed to, but overall they're very close and Ella feels she can tell her mother anything.

— Father | Jason Lee | 47 | Financial Consultant | Jason travelled a lot when Ella and her sister were girls, but now that he's settled down he's doing everything he can to be a good, supportive dad who's there for his girls. This means a whole lot of dad jokes and embarrassment for his daughters when he's around, but they love him so they put up with it. Mostly.

— Sister | Hailey Lee | 18 | Student | Hailey and Ella get along pretty well, especially since Ella moved to Korea to train. She doesn't totally get her sister's dreams to sing or why she'd go through so much grief to reach them, but she's supportive of it and they Skype each other about once a week to catch up (and so Hailey can gush about her boyfriend of the week)

friends :
— Friendly | Wendy Son | 23 | Member of Red Velvet | Though they aren't as close as they used to be, Wendy and Ella still consider each other friends and will happily stop to catch up if they run into each other backstage. They'll also talk about each other on shows if asked.

others :
— Groupmates | No Minjoo | 19 | Leader of A&D | While Ella will admit that Minjoo isn't as bad of a leader as Sehyun is, she still doesn't think Minjoo should be in charge. For one thing she's still young, and for another Ella knows (thinks) she could do a much better job than Minjoo does. She often takes control of the group even when one of the leaders is right there, so she had an extremely tense relationship with both of them, but with Minjoo especially since the overall leader is less likely to take her .

— Groupmates | Jang Sehyun | 19 | Leader of Angels | Ella thinks that making Sehyun a leader was the worst idea Big Hit ever had, and she'll say it to the younger girl's face. She finds Sehyun to be immature and incapable of taking her job seriously, and she's far more likely to steal control of the group from Sehyun than from Minjoo. Honestly she kind of hates Sehyun and will happily, subtly, undermine her on camera whenever the opportunity presents itself. It's a petty one-sided rivalry mostly stemming from the fact Ella feels like Sehyun especially doesn't deserve the honor she was given and it frustrates the hell out of Ella.

i wanna be like that unni

stage name : Ella
persona : The Fiery Foreigner
position : Lead Vocalist (Wendy - Main Vocalist, Dancer)
fanclub + colour : Yankees + Blue&Gold (The official colors of New York)
talent twin : Tahiti's Minjae (Purfles' Eunyoung)

trainee years : SME (3 years) + Big Hit (1 year)
TRAINEE life :
Her training at SM focused mostly on improving her Korean and her dancing. She didn't really have a chance to make many friends outside of her classes due to her hectic schedule, but she did meet Wendy in her Korean class and the two became good friends. However, when Wendy was added to SMRookies and then Red Velvet, while Ella was left to continue training, the New Yorker felt a bit snubbed, so when her contract expired in 2014 she decided to head home and take stock of her life.

She enjoyed te time off but she discovered she really missed training. That was right when BTS really started to do well, so she decided she would fly back to Korea and audition for Big Hit. She had to get a job to afford the ticket back, and she timed it so that she auditioned for the label hours after landing in Seoul. While waiting for the results she stayed at a hotel that her parents were paying for. Two days later she got a call saying she could start training at Big Hit immediately, and she quickly moved into the dorms.
predebut :
— None

scandals :
— A&D's Ella rude to MCs? | Always True | After Debut | This is a pretty common headline. It's usually written off as her being foregin and not fully understanding Korean culture, which is partly true, but also they were probably annoying her and she was at least somewhat intentionally rude.
— Ella makes [fellow member] cry? | True | After Debut | Ella was being bossy again, and one of the girls was on the wrong side of it. She does apologize about it
— A&D's Ella has a girfriend? | True | After Debut | (This is up to you if you want to do this) Mandy visits Ella in Korea and neither girl can keep off of each other because it's literally been over a year since they've seen each other in person. They get caught by Dispatch during a cuddle session and it's a whole thing.

i've dreamed of a romantic movie

love interest : Amanda "Mandy" Richards (OC; FC - Sophia Carson)
backup love interest : None
DOB : May 3, 1996
personality :
+ Feisty, Supportive, Loyal : - Blunt, Stubborn, Arrogant : /Contrary
Amanda, or Mandy as she prefers, is a "little firecraker" as her parents always put it. She's an adventurous girl who's more afraid of missing something than failing. She's a go-getter, always moving and always ready with a sharp retort if someone tries telling her "little girls shouldn't...". She hates labels and expectations and has made a hobby out of ignoring and defying them. When with her friends she's a very loyal and supportive person, always there with a shoulder to cry on and a smack upside the head for when you need to get up and keep going. Her love is tough, but it's real and it's powerful.

Mandy doesn't pull her punches, physically or verbally. She means well, but often times goes overboard with her help and ends up insulting or further upsetting whoever she was talking to. She's very blunt and doesn't believe in softening blows. She's also verys stubborn and will often refuse to see when she's in the wrong, sticking with her sometimes extreme ideals to the bitter end. It takes a lot to change her mind, which comes from both her natural want to stand up to stereotypes as well as her own arrogance. Mandy greatly believes that everything she thinks is the "right" way to think, and she often won't listen to reason because of her pride.

History : El first "met" Mandy on an online forum when they were both 17. Ella was extremely homesick and feeling particularly discouraged, so she went onto a site where people talked about Kpop and started her own thread: "Being a trainee from the States". It started out as just her answering people's questions about training and occasionally ranting about how hard it was to try balancing learning the language, school, and practice was. Then Mandy left a comment with a few links suggesting good places to go to learn Korean faster and more efficiently. Ella sent her a private message to say thanks, and they ended up continuing to message on a daily basis, eventually swapping Kakao's as well and begining to video chat. They were close friends for the rest of El's time at SM, and when she breiflt came home between SM and Big Hit, they finally met face-to-face for the first time. They could only hang out in person for a month, but by the end of it they'd agreed to try dating long-distance, and so far it's worked pretty well.

relationship : Since Mandy still lives in South Carolina, the two basically never see each other in person. And so they Skype. Constantly. On these daily calls, they talk about their day, their complaints about life, their excitement about anything new going on, just your usual banter. They do sometimes argue if one of them is injured (Ella from overworking during practice or promotions and Mandy from being Mandy), but they've always worked through it, even if it does usually take a few days for each to calm down and call again. They've been together for a little over a year and they're very much in the "boring" stage of their relationship where it's not new anymore, but it's comfortable, and they know when it really matters they can always count on each other to be there, even if it means flying across the ocean to do so.

status : Mandy and El are in a long-distance relationship. It's not a secret from their families, but it is from basically everyone else, since it could destroy Ella's career.

everything is so awkward

comments : So she wasn't supposed to end up that antagonistic towards the leaders, but I think it works wit her character? I hope you're not offended, Ella just really hates taking orders from anyone but herself OTL
scene request(s) :
— Ella making poeple cry
— Skype call with Mandy where Ella ends by saying "I love you", hangs up, realizes what she said and promptly freaks out about it because I did not mean to say that.
— Mandy secretly flying to Korea and attending an A&D concert and Ella freaking out
