ELABORATION —
• take a deep breath // always with her head on straight, sooyeon can be counted on as the voice of reason in any circumstance. she never seems to be surprised and takes things into stride with an ease that is enviable. she never gets overly passionate nor does she let impulse guide her actions. in addition, she is the most logical person to walk the campus. arguing with her is nigh impossible regardless of how much younger or shorter or whatever she is. she is able to simplify any process and guide people through it with a clarity that students dream their teachers could achieve and it is easy to see why, with her grades too, teachers wanted her to run for student council president.
• leave it to me // with a patience that rivals the flow of time, it is hard to believe someone exists without an end to her fuse but somehow, sooyeon seems to be that person. (of course, taking her frustrations out with judo is probably why.) she also has a strong sense of responsibility that has, admittedly, resulted in more work on her part than necessary aka running for student council president once and, mostly, group projects. she takes promises and favors seriously and will always do her part and then some. she takes her responsibilities seriously and with a seemingly infinite string of patience, it is common to see her working or studying (as her duty as student) into the night.
• just partially ocd // though it is nice to have an acquaintance know of all your allergies, it can be disconcerting when you never told her about your allergies. sooyeon is that acquaintance and then some. speaking patterns, likes, dislikes, even habits are not hidden from sooyeon's eye and it can be intimidating to have someone know you so well without reciprocation. sooyeon also has a mild form of ocd that makes her need order within her life. it is usually positive since she is very high-functioning and her usual reaction is just to clean rather than freak out, but every so often, she will be overwhelmed and start hyperventilating. (she knows how to calm herself but it takes time.)
• so? // perhaps because she is naturally a listener or because she's generally quiet, sooyeon is not the kind of person to mince words. she gets straight to the point and has no problems hitting the heart of the issue. she has no problems in being honest and hates lying, even if the truth hurts. she has a clear lack of interest and, as a result of her bluntness, she can come off very cold to people who do not know her well. she defaults to acting like an uninvolved party unless explicitly asked and though it can be generally annoying and hurtfully distancing, she is popular as a counselor and advice-gver because she always offers a third-party look at any difficult situation.
• do it over // put nicely, sooyeon has strong convictions. put honestly, sooyeon is pig-headed. once she makes a decision, she always sees it through to the end and though it can be seen as just determination, it is more oft than not a negative trait that makes others fed up with her. she is also a perfectionist and though it results in great works, it is tiring, especially for group projects in which members never seem to be able to live up to her standards. however, it is important to keep in mind that no matter how hard she pushes others, she pushes herself always to a higher standard and will never fail to put in extra time and work to be the example to demonstrate to others.
BACKGROUND + FAMILY LIFE —
• once upon a time // born to the adoring mixed-race couple of choi jinsoo and (maiden name koizumi) sachiko (korean name saerin) two months after their wedding (and yes, her mother was pregnant for her wedding), sooyeon was a healthy and tiny baby who lived up to her japanese name, shizuko, meaning "quiet child." her childhood was, most would say, without incident except for the fire that burned down their home (and her parents' connected dojo) when she was 8. fortunately, no one was injured, but their house was insalvagable. taking it as an opportunity for a fresh start, her parents decided to move to songpa, korea, where sooyeon has spent the rest of her life so far.
• there was a female mage // sooyeon had always grown up loving reading and learning. since young, she divided her time between reading, judo with her parents, and schoolwork. she always had her priorities down and despite her parents' subtle encouragements to be a normal, trouble-making child, sooyeon somehow skipped over the rebellious stage and was (and still is) very polite. she easily was considered a gifted child and though teachers complained initially because she read during class, she never failed to ace everything; she even answered their questions (like "what did i just say?") so eventually they just let it go. there's a special note in her record about it.
• she left on a long quest // sooyeon had quite the pick of schools once she reached high school. she even had a full-ride scholarship to all four years of daejeon prep and for the good education (and scholarship because her parents are judo instructors and not rich), she decided to attend. in freshman year, her teachers thought she was being haughty, reading in class, (did no one read the note in her record?) but she won them over throughout the year because she was so polite and respectful but logical. she became every teacher's favorite student and they even asked her to run for student council president junior year; she lost the race because people didn't vote for her.
• a knight joined her on her adventure // when her aunt aka her father's sister visited from california, sooyeon did not think much of it. she did not expect her cousin to come to live with them and for that same cousin to attend school with her. sooyeon honestly does not know why her aunt decided to send her cousin to live with them but her parents accepted and, to be honest, it didn't affect her all that much. sooyeon initially feared that her cousin would tell her parents that she was friend-less (because she was a scholarship student but at least they didn't bully her and mostly just ignored her). luckily, her cousin seems to have not noticed or, if she has, she hasn't said a word about it.
RELATIONSHIPS —
• sure, you can say seungyeon is sooyeon's cousin all you want, but, honestly, this is literally the first time they've seen each other their entire lives and suddenly they're living together all the time. they might live in the same house and, occasionally, eat at the same breakfast and / or dinner table, but they've somehow mutually and non-verbally come to avoid each other and don't even greet each other unless forced. rather than say cousins, it's more accurate to call them housemates.
• lab partner // son hyunwoo (19) senior // quiet, polite, responsiblethough it may be presumptuous, especially because they've only ever shared science classes, sooyeon finds hyunwoo to be be quiet, polite, and responsible. this, in reality, translates to they have never fought, talk the bare minimum (meaning greetings outside of class at max), and when they get paired for science projects, he actually does his work instead of making her do it all herself. they've been lab partners since sophmore year and shared science since for some reason.
• the one who is always being scolded // shin hoseok (19) senior // free, my-pace, troublemakersooyeon sees him vaguely in passing throughout school. she mostly sees him when she goes to the teacher's lounge or principal's office to do them favors (teacher's pet and all). he's always been scolded, assigned detention, or some combination of the above. that's about the limit of their relaionship. they are in the same grade but they never shared a class; rather, if they did before, she (and he, she assumes) have no memory of it because he doesn't recognize her in passing.
• the bitter kid // lee minhyuk (18) junior // quiet, lonely, bluntthat's what he is in sooyeon's head "the bitter kid" because it's fine to be quiet and it's fine to be blunt (she is herself), but though he has the opportunity to make friends, his random need to stay alone seems childish and selfish. she hangs out with teachers because the other students tend to avoid her and while he has such an opportunity to make good high school memories, perhaps, in honesty, she's the bitter one because she's jealous that he's not making the memories he could.
• orchy dork // yoo kihyun // junior (18) kind, talented, grudge-holdingmost students treat her with indifference or are vaguely polite (as the case with hyunwoo) but kihyun, maybe because she's older or something, never fails to greet her very politely and even attempt a conversation. she's never good at carrying conversations but it never seems to deter him. she is aware that he isn't fair to that sophmore female but she also knows the girl's friend isn't kind and the girl lets it happen. she does not excuse his grudge behavior, but she sees its logic.
• the unlucky child // chae hyungwon (18) junior // insecure, awkward, learningunlike minhyuk who is a bratty kid, hyungwon is a child because he's still stumbling through life. sooyeon, of course, does not know the whole story, but she knows regret and insecurity when she sees it and this boy has tons of it. he is unlucky because who else seems to have the worst timing to do something. (she had seen his determination earlier in the day and how it disappeared after.) she knows people consider him good-looking and she can see it, but he's simply not her type.
• the cause of everything // lee jooheon (17) sophmore // prankster, desperate, brightyeah, prankster of the school and a bright person full of laughs, but no one else seems to see that his pranks have escalated rapidly. that's not a move of someone doing this just for laughs. logically, the upgrade in destruction is due to something that he's desperate for (or to prevent). perhaps a girl he likes and wants to impress or maybe just to be taken more seriously (and threateningly) as a prankster. sooyeon has no certainty in the reason why but she knows for sure that there is one,
• the transfer // im changkyun (16) freshman // ??sooyeon has seen this freshman exactly once for longer than the time it takes to walk down the hall. it was his first day in class and she was in the teacher's lounge, helping a math teacher correct some sophmore tests. he came in because he had to talk to his teacher about something and when they met eyes, she just nodded. he nodded back and that was it. literally. she's seen him in passing sometimes but if he's recognized her, he hasn't spoken to her since then.
• sneaky ballerina // oh haeyoung (16) freshman // smart, callous, confusingwhoever said dancers were stupid clearly had never met haeyoung. sooyeon has graded enough tests for teachers to separate the smart from the stupid students and haeyoung is smart. sooyeon hears that haeyoung is callous and sooyeon can see why. but sooyeon can't fully get a finger on haeyoung, especially since she doesn't know her well. because sure haeyoung can come off rude, but she's best friends with jooheon and for being so different, there has to be something alike.
GPA — 4.5 (A's in all classes, even the upper level ones)

REASONS THEY GOT THE POSITION —
• base // surprisingly, sooyeon is very strong and has a lot of muscles because judo and because she's always dragging a huge pile of books everywhere without breaking a sweat. people wanted to relegate her to flyer but then when someone else was practicing and tripped, she caught them with ease despite being 20 centimeters shorter.
• flyer // tiny, short, and flexible (thank you judo), sooyeon was quickly relegated to being a flyer. she's flexible enough to do all the flips and tumbles of a tumbler but she's too short to be seen and she's light enough to be thrown or lifted and seen. it also helped that she's long since learned the safe way to fall because of the judo mat.
• captain // with an enviable ability to turn chaos into productivity, sooyeon was amazingly able to rangle all the different personalities and make them cooperate (once they learned to respect her of course). as a base / flyer, she's able to keep a good eye on everything and is quick to bark out orders when something unexpected occurs.
