Late Night Talks: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Timestamp: 12:50

I've finished 11 episodes of Hyde, Jekyll and Me and I must say, I'm bored. Extremely bored to death by the slow pace of the story and the immense effort of the writer to revolve the story about every character in the series. I must say, there had been no concrete facts where it should go and my head hurts from bracing myself every episode because it usually goes another way than the easy way. They fought hard with Kill Me, Heal Me by making it 20 episodes, but sure, I didn't also finish KMHM. More so, not because of the same plot DID because I was sure I had the feeling that there's something more than a rich heir tormenting himself, trying to hide from the world with his other identities. More so, even with the knowledge that DID is a form of their escape, the more they esxape the more they are bound to depende on these identities and I can't help but cringe at every analogy that doctors come up. Well, I'm not a doctor myself.

If you read The Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, it was more than living with two identities. Hyde got his name as the one who goes into hiding, his identity always concelead. His viscious, murderous character was Jekyll's form of having not to resort in violence in such cases, as his feelings were always checked up due to his status. Jekyll on the other hand had his name as Je or I and Kyll as Kill. I kill. It's a sort of premonition that my name is respectable yet on the other hand, at the back, in context but beyond recognition, I kill people. Utterson, the third party, was not to utter anything with this secret.

There had been cases of people getting hurt because of DID in the story, even to the extent of dying because of denial that this can happen.

Anyways, back to my analysis of Hyde, Jekyll and Me. First, it relied too much on Hyunbin. I kind of had the feel, "Okay I can watch this until the end." and then I realize, "I am much drawn to Hyunbin than the plotline itself." More so, the eleventh episode had already laid all the cards before us that we are just wanting it to end. Jang Hana should choose and finally, they can see Dr. Kang. Yet we are not given that conclusion until episodes after, I suppose. I will not continue watching again.

Second, the chemistry between actors . I would have shipped Secretary Kwon and Goo Seojin because they had more chemistry than Jimin is to Hyunbin. It seems so awkward, like I'm peeping into some pretend couple. The click you see between Jisung and Seojoon was not there.

Third, it's crazy. For a moment, it centers around the life of Goo Seojin and then afterwards, as soon as his "Hyde" was introduced, it suddenlt revolved around Robin for maybe almost all the episodes. I get it. Then we are captured to the endless kidnapping by Soohyun and his endless revenge that never really was answered. What's the point of recalling it since the beginning?

And foremost, I know that loving someone with DID doesn't mean you get both worlds. Yet it doesn't make sense Hana was not able to get everything straight until the last twenty minutes that Robin and Seojin are two identities in one body and Robin will, and eventually, will cease to exist until Seojin tries himself to assume his misinterpreted identity. I believe DID results from guilt that you can't do this or that. And Hana was extremely selfish. (I am rooting for Seojin tvbh because he was just selfless when it comes to Hana. Yet she always fail to realize things and even had to resort to torment herself into choosing between Seojin and Robin. Married Robin. Cried over Robin. And took Seojin in the end because HE ACTED LIKE ROBIN. Assuming they made the line that no matter the identity, I am the man who loves you, will slways love you and wants to be loved by you, I am still skeptical about the whole thing about Hana taking Seojin just because he had Robin in him. She wanted both worlds. I ain't buying that. She married Robin in the first place. That means she wanted one world and selfishly wanted the other because without him, the other won't exist. No Hana. I ain't buying that .)

That was not a nice thing to do. She'd eventually suffer delusions. And it was not nice having Seojin suffer then say "I don't want you to suffer." when she cried because Robin had to go. She was happy. That was hypocrite. Jimin was unlucky to have a crappy character that is so hypocritic I had to cringe every minute.

I read the ending in a recap because I don't want to watch if it's not Seojin. It is him, only halfly. I loved Robin, yet sometimes I'm judging him on his push and pull. It's somehow confusing. How he wanted to exist yet not exist. Etc...

But I really loved how Hyunbin acted. He was the saving grace of the show along with Secretary Kwon (Lee Seungjoon. Dr. Lee? Kim? Choi? Of DOTS.) Yet as I fall deep into his dimples, I realize that I am falling deep into a cliff that's shallow. There's nothing much into but the outside covering and my own delusions. Hyunbin is handsome. Yet the plot could have been better.

I also didn't finish Kill Me, Heal Me. I died after 2 episodes.

And don't get me wrong, I love dramas with man vs. himself as conflicts. I watched It's Okay, That's Love and I actually cried. Yet it doesn't seem to get into my head that Hyunbin got a good project with a horrible plot. The first episode was good tho, but less exciting.

So, that's all for tonight. You can comment below if you want me to discuss other dramas or review fanfictions for you. But make sure it's clean content! (and not hypocritic plots. I'm tired of it after writing hypocrites almost all my life). I'll do it for free or if you want I'd do reviews for a small price (5 Karmas would be enough. I'm not greedy.)

I can also review your fanfiction! 5 karmas!! 😂😂😂

If I get review requests, I'd probably post it on my website regularly and then make a story post about it. Don't worry, I made reviews for a year for my major.

P.S Since this is a late night talk, I might have been sounded like I didn't make sense. Or not making sense. Or wrong in constructing my sentences. Anways, I promise to do good in my reviews. I studied it anyways! Free of consultations too and character analysis!
